Hi everyone,
Well, I guess you can tell from the title who is up next. Ten Ping was laying on her back as I was staring into my glass doll cabinet, trying to decide who I should make the next outfit for. As I was looking over all my dolls, I saw this tiny little hand raise up and recognized it as Ten Pings… how could I not pick her after that?
I DO LOVE sewing for her and it will fit the Ruby Red Fashion Friends Mini dolls like Sara, Bella, Hanna, etc. as they share the exact same body as Ten Ping.
I didn’t want to make her a dress this time, and it’s too warm still for a coat, so I opted for something new and hopefully fun. I was looking on Etsy for patterns, not necessarily her size, but maybe something close that didn’t involve too much modification. I thought maybe a pair of overalls or maybe a romper might be fun, but there were so many different kinds… bib overalls, the kind that have really billowing legs, really wide legged ones, super skinny legged ones, rompers that were one-piece outfits which had the shirt and the legs all in one piece, and lots of others.
I picked out a few and then tried to narrow it down, by thinking of the time it would take to make… PLUS I wanted them to be different and cute… those were my two criteria! This is what I settled on… it was a pair of overalls for Neo Blythe who is a bit taller than Ten Ping, but her measurements of her body is fairly close to Ten Ping.
Here is the link to the listing on Etsy… It was on sale too! 75% off! Woohoo!
I wanted to use that new little dark rust/pumpkin print I had gotten recently. The pattern has lots of topstitching and I thought it would be cute. Now, you’ll have to use your imagination right now because it’s not stitched together in the legs, so they look huge. I wanted to show it to you before I gathered up the waist, so you could see all the topstitching. It’s not necessarily a hard pattern, at least so far, but the extra stitching does take extra time.
You can see the shape of the pants a little bit better here.
I positioned the pockets so Ten Ping’s hands will fit perfectly in them.
The last thing I got done on them was the gathering at the waist… now to get it finished…
I’ll see what I can get accomplished today!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, I think those overalls are going to be so cute on Ten Ping! We’ll just all keep our voices down a bit when talking about this, though, so that Someone (aka Gigi) doesn’t find out that Auntie Jeanne is making something that will fit her again!! 😂 She seems to have the idea that Jeanne is her personal couturier!!
I replied to Laura’s comment to me on yesterday’s blog. Thank you, Laura!
The discussion about polished cotton was interesting. Back in the 50s and early 60s, polished cotton was fairly popular, but as I recall, mom had to make up a solution with unflavored gelatin for the final rinse when washing it, to keep that sheen. LONG time ago, but I seem to remember that.
I used a lot of polished cotton but never heard of the solution to keep it shiny. But I must confess that since it wasn’t really trendy for school clothes, which i had to use it for, I was more than happy when some of the sheen wore off.
Hmmm, I remember polished cotton being popular in the ’80s. I think I have a few pieces in my stash.
One of my daughters (she keeps me informed, if not ACTUALLY fashionable) has informed me that big wide pants are back in style again. It took me awhile to convert to skinny jeans, and now I have get used to the big flowy pants again???? I’m only 5’2″ so I don’t think they look very good on me. But your overalls for Ten Ping look like they will be very cute Jeanne
I do not wear wide pants At. All.! I am only 4’6″, so you can imagine how that would look!! 😂
The overalls are so cute on Ten Ping, Jeanne, and the color and pattern are perfect for fall! What a good buy on the pattern! Will she have a top underneath the overalls like the pattern picture that is shown? A cute hat in the overall material would look perfect! A visit to the pumpkin patch in this outfit would be a good October story!
Super cute pants. I just love the baggy style overalls!
This fabric is perfect! what a sweet ensemble this is starting to look like!
Happy Wednesday friends.
Here we are at last, a day with no workers coming and no where we have to go! Putting our rugs back down and filling the bathrooms back like they belong.
Jeanne, those tiny toes peeking our under the overalls just gave me a good morning laugh! This is going to be a great outfit for her. I cant wait to see it all. Your outfits on her make me wish I had that little doll, but I am not getting more dolls.
Have happy day, Y”all.
Well, lucky Ten Ping. Those overalls are so cute. Can’t wait to see them finished. And will Jeanne, be making a little blouse to go with them? And maybe a hat? Guess we’ll find out. 🙂
Too many sprinkles to do anything outside yesterday except get in an early walk before the rain arrived. But, I was able to check out that green polished cotton and the plaid fabric together. It was a flop. When in more light, the green turned out to be even more blue than I thought so it goes back to the fabric pile. Then, I started pulling out the small tubs I have stacked to look through that fabric. It’s all neatly folded so it is easy to spot colors. Well, I opened 12 I think, and could not find one solid green color at all or even a print that would mix/match. So, I stacked the tubs all back leaving the fall/Halloween on top. The last tub was where I keep checked fabric. I wasn’t even going to open it, but finally did. Well, stuffed down the side was a tiny mess of green. Not neatly folded, but just pieces from some long forgotten project. It almost looked like I had cut out wings or flower leaves from the leftover visible fabric holes. Anyway, I grabbed it and took it to the window along with the plaid fabric. Well, guess what? It was a match!! So, I spent my news time fooling around trying to fit some sleeves, facing, and collar pieces onto the scraps. Today, I’ll have to take a look at the collar to see if I was able to have two pieces going the same way on the fabric. Not enough light in the evening for that. I’m not even sure that I’m going to like this with the plaid fabric, but we’ll see. 🙂
Everything is wet outside this morning, so definitely not working on the deck. 🙂
What luck to find the green fabric where you least expected to find it. Good thing you looked. Hope you have enough to do what you want to do.
Good luck on the scraps! I know that I love it when I find something I had forgotten I had. I hope it works for you. Looking forward to seeing the results.
What adorable pants I would have never thought of using a Blythe pattern for Ten Ping or the RRFF Mini girls. If you are looking for patterns for 8″ dolls in the future, try Matthiola Beads on Etsy. She has patterns for the Paola Reina mini doll. Her videos are under Nata’s Doll Atelier but if you buy the patterns it’s Matthiola Beads. She has some cute overalls and a pattern similar to what you are using for Ten Ping. She also has cute patterns for the larger Paola Reina dolls that will fit Little Darlings and Maru Mini dolls. The one overall pattern she has is so cute and I’ve got that on my to-make list, which is growing daily.
Speaking of Blythe, I just bought my Blythe a couple of cute overall outfits from NiceBlytheArt on Etsy. Even if you don’t have a Blythe, it’s fun looking at all the cute outfits. I had a hard time deciding which one to buy, so I bought two.
My adorable little storage house, we call it the Little House (as in Little House on the Prairie), is nearly ready for occupancy. The electric inspection took place yesterday and it passed with flying colors. David is good! The man who did the inspection asked if it was going to be a “Man Cave”. Dionne asked if it was going to be my “She Shed” (I wish). It would qualify for any of these if a future buyer would decide they needed something other than storage. With a little plumbing you could add a bathroom in the part designated for the potting shed. It would make a great home office also. But since my garage is full of stuff as are my sewing room and guest bedroom, it will be a storage room at least for us. We have no attic or basement, and our closets are 1945 issue, so no extra room there – although I will say most of them are big for the time when people had few clothes and not much stuff.
Dear Jeanne, I love that color. I think it will look darling on Ten Ping.
Blythe confusion. I’ve always wondered about Blythe’s size. I guess there are several Blythe sizes including Blythe at abt 11 inches and Neo Blythe at abt 7.76″.
So, I guess if I were to look for a pattern, it should be for Neo Blythe, as Jeanne mentioned. I know there was a Simplicity pattern 2353 that came out some time ago. But, not sure if it was for regular Blythe or Neo Blythe. When looking at patterns on Etsy, a lot of patterns don’t seem to specify the difference in sizes. They just say Blythe. Anyway, I’m very glad that Jeanne mentioned the pattern and let us know that Ten Ping and some of the other smaller Ruby Reds can wear that size.
Thanks, Jeanne
