Hi everyone,
You won’t believe this, but I have been working with Rebecca in my sewing room most of the day! It’s funny how when someone is helping you clean, you can make it fun! We have purged, organized, moved things around, sorted things out, made piles to be sold, bags to be taken to the thrift shop, bags for her to take home and resell, and of course, some bags that were pretty much just trash. I have pictures too… I just wish I had taken a picture of my room BEFORE we started. It’s still not finished, but it’s a whole lot less crowded in there than it was.
I’ll show a picture and tell you what we did.
Oh, I forgot… I DID take a few pictures of the midway progress… it actually was starting to look pretty good by this time in our cleaning.
This is the stuff we put back in the sitting room… the big tub of fabrics, I’m going to bundle up and sell… a few things in the pile will be sold too… but most of this will go to the thrift shop.
The fabrics in the tub above came from my “Wall of Fabrics” and once I got going, it got easier to pull out some and let someone else have them. Then my fabrics got straightened and the clear totes on the bottom were all gone through and Rebecca took some and I eliminated fabrics I just didn’t want anymore. Most of the clear totes held fabrics I made stretch knit tops, thigh highs and socks out of.
I used to have my props on the bottom shelf of this built in, but we eliminated quite a few and now they are easier to reach for. I had fabrics on the second shelf, but we moved my swimsuits (to be cut up), my board shorts (that need to cut out from those fabrics), my flip flops that are on Etsy, and my 2 containers with the already made swimsuits and board shorts to this shelf. I even sorted out my half gallon zip lock bag of seashells and put them back behind the flip flops. Now everything I need for summer swimwear is in one place.
My swimsuit and board shorts used to be stacked in clear tubs on this bookshelf, but we moved them and I got out my corduroys and put them within easy reach now…
When Gloria (George’s sister-in-law) came to see us a month or so ago, she brought this sweet little cabinet to me, thinking I could use it in my sewing room. She and her husband found the drawers at some antique shop and bought them, and then Larry built the cabinet that holds them. Rebecca and I have been trying to decide what would be the best thing to put in them… It’s ready to hold something and I’ll let you know what we decide on…
As we were cleaning, I found a pile of alterations for my hubby with this note pinned on it… Check out the last thing I wrote… Silly me!
Then when it all started looking nice in here again, I decided it was time to retire this Shark iron I’ve been using for quite a few years. I’d have to look back to see when I bought it, but it doesn’t really matter… It actually looks worse than it “really” is… the bottom is chrome and looks pretty cruddy, but the crud is stuck on the iron and doesn’t come off. It could probably be cleaned off fairly well, but it doesn’t spit out any water or steam very well…and besides…
…I sort of have this “thing” for irons if they are a good price. I went upstairs and showed Rebecca my “stash” of 6 like-new irons that I pulled one from and brought down to my sewing room. It’s a Rowenta and really nice. I’ll give it a try for a while and see how it works. The irons in my stash were probably $80 -$100 or more, but I didn’t pay more than $8.00 for any of the ones I have. :o)
Tomorrow I’m sure we’ll find more things to work on, but today was a great start and I’m very grateful for her help! Whenever I do get back to sewing, things should go smoothly!
