Show and Tell from Friday…

Hi everyone,
Monday creeped upon me too quickly and I wasn’t prepared for a post today. But I’ll do my best to share something I hope you’ll find a little bit interesting.

We had to go to St. Louis Friday, for a Doctor’s appointment for my hubby. We will have a few more in the future, but I’m planning to carry on things here like I have been.

While in St. Louis, we stopped at a couple places; Jackman’s is a great fabric shop, and I found a few pieces of wool felt. Since it’s October now, I bought a few orange pieces, navy and a muted blue..

Then I looked at their Christmas fabrics and just bought one new piece. It’s VERY pretty and just a little bit brighter than my picture shows.

I found this pique woman’s dress at a thrift shop and thought it would be nice to cut up and make a dress for Mae in the Spring. It is a bright white and pretty blue floral. Mae wanted to show you how sweet it looks next to her beautiful blue eyes…

This morning, Joy, a friend at church gave me a link to a post on Instagram about a lady’s collection of dolls and dressing them. It is VERY sweet and I am hoping it will come through for you to see.
When you see the white arrow, click on it and then click on the X when you see the page with my face on it. Hopefully it will open for you like it did for me. ALSO, make sure to click the little sound icon in the bottom right of the video.
(I’m not on Instagram, but it opened doing it this way!)

I have tested it and it should work for everyone. I’ve watched it at least half a dozen times so far. It is really cute. She TRULY is a doll collector… and it looks like mostly Blythe dolls.

Also, if you click on some of the posts she has below the one I showed you, you can find more of her going up the stairs and dressing her girls for something else. She is VERY creative!

I just saw where American Girl had released a new line of dolls on September 26th, geared for younger girls. They are 14.5″ tall and are geared for 4+ girls. (I’m guessing these are taking the place of the Wellie Wishers.)

Here is a link you can click on to see them.

American Girl New Fashion Dolls 14.5″

Well, that will be it for me today…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. I have heard of Jackman’s; so glad you got to go there, Jeanne! I’m glad you found some wool felt in colors you can use for fall. Also a nice piece of fabric….I wonder who will get this one?!

I love that pique’ print dress you bought to use for something for Mae! Such a pretty print, nice and bright, clear colors, etc.

I couldn’t access the video without logging in with Facebook or creating a new account, so I didn’t bother to watch the video. It wouldn’t “just” open for me like it did for you. Maybe you’ve done instagram in the past? But since she has mostly Blythe dolls and I’m not into those, I’m not going to worry about it!

I saw that about the AG dolls’ new doll. Interesting that it’s 14.5″ tall, which is exactly what the Ruby Red Fashion Friends are! I wonder if they are trying to more directly compete with them now? This could be interesting to see!

Hope everyone had a good weekend. We had lovely weather, but our rainy season is about to start. I always dread that, because it seems to last at least 18 months! May seems a very long way away, right, Dorothy?

Oh, Jackman’s! I loved that store and they had one very close to where I live, but they sadly closed it and kept the one you went to, Jeanne. I bought all the really “good” material there for special occasion dresses, like Jennifer’s
First Communion dress, her prom formal, and some nice dresses for myself. They always did sell the “better” sewing accessories and fabrics. I’m glad you found something there that you can use! I really like the “Berry and Pine” fabric, and can’t wait to see what you do with it!

That pique’ material is so cute and perky looking, and Mae is exactly the doll who will wear it best!

I am not on Instagram, but I am on Facebook, and I saw that clip several days ago. My goodness, what a BUNCH of dolls she has! Quite a whimsical little video, so fun!

Oh, those”Sister’s” dolls that AG brought out recently! They are actually Wellie’s with makeup, and through reputable sources, they were originally made by AG to be sold by Target, but that deal fell through, so now AG is selling them. They are the same size as Wellie’s and can wear the same clothes. They do have rooted hair from what I understand, not wigs. No Charlotte, they are definitely not going to compete with Rubin Red dolls!

  3. Hi, Love the material, Berries and Pine, looks like a Liberty, wish I had a Jackman here,we now have no good fabric stores, Hobby Lobby and Walmart are our choices, not good. All the other quilt shops the fabric is 13,98 and 14.98 a yard. A little pricey! The video very cute, I do not look like that as I run around my sewing room!!!!!! Have a good day!

I saw it all this morning, Jeanne, and the Doll Lady was so fun running around in her high heels, and the little dolls sleeping. Her doll room is amazing.
    Thank you for sharing.
I never heard of “Jackman” fabric, down here on the coast we just don’t have much in the of sewing things, especially since Joann’s is gone. I haven’t checked in Michael’s for weeks, I guess I should, also Hobby Lobby.
I love what you found and look forward to seeing the use of it.
Now that our two downstairs bathrooms have new floors we are looking for the floor cover people and the plumber to come today to finish the job. We will be so glad not to have to go upstairs or in the laundry room to go to the bathroom. We are grateful to have them though.
We were surprised to find what kinds of choices we had to choose from for new flooring covers. There were none like the kinds in the past, then mostly looked like wood floors, not a single nice attractive design. We ended up choosing just a plain white flooring. Bah!
Y’all have a good day, we are hoping for some rain.

    1. yes, plain white… ceramic tile?
A great opportunity to find some cute very flat rugs.
We have white tile in all of our bathrooms too.
I think if you want fancy, you have to pay a small fortune…

No, it is just vinyl. We do have some rugs, especially in the master bathroom. When he came to put the guest bath toilet he found a crack in it so now we are buying 2 toilets. sigh.

  5. Happy Monday every one, I hope all of you survived the week-end with some happy occurrences . We were “promised” rain and received about 16 drops.

Jeanne, you had a great shopping excursion. I love the wool felt pieces perfect for jackets and accessories. The Moda fabric from Lella Boutique is very sweet.
Some of her fabrics are very much like Liberty fabrics. There is SO much pretty fabric out these days!!!
I love the blue pique textured fabric, nice find.
Very cute instagram page. You might be able to find her on a different platform if you do not have an account. Sometimes they have a youtube account.
Charlotte, here is her webpage https://www.dollytreasures.com/

The new AG fashion dolls are cute. I must be old fashioned. I just have a difficult time with the oddly colored hair and massive amounts of make up.
If I were 6 years old, I am not sure I would like a doll like that…. I know, I am just a prude maybe.

I should tend to the gardens today. The end of September already, just WOW
No wonder big fat spiders are a central part of Halloween. Wooo they are bold and chubby. ::::shivers:::::
I actually really, I think legitimately joined a sew along. I bought the pattern.
The sew along is organized my Rachel, at Stitched In Color blog and the pattern is Under The Maple Tree. I have enough scraps and fabric to make a zillion quilts but I will start with one 🙂

Rosemary, Monica and Alaura Poole at Pattern Pool have just started a new digital quilting magazine. Issue 1 has 20% off so costs $20 Australian. It has heaps of projects including Blocks of the month (2 blocks). All the quilts are quilt as you go and are supported by videos from Monica and Alaura. Hand quilting is beyond me these days and quilting a full-size quilt on the machine is almost impossible as well so I always use QAYG. I wondered if you would be interested.

I saw the new AG girls for the first time in an AG catalog that came today. I never thought of them replacing the Wellies. That would definitely be a shame. I looked at them to decide which one I’d want and the answer was none of them.

Sure hope the medical visit went well. Worried about George. Long ways to travel, but the fabric store excursion sounded like a great one. I would probably have gone nuts as I haven’t stepped inside one since the closing of Joann’s.
I’ll have to look on FB as I couldn’t view the video.
Around here, the weekend produced a two coats of paint on most of the top deck decking and a new railing on the lower deck installed. That happened after we took off the cracked rail and discovered a huge hole in the post from water damage. Saturday, I filled it and a bunch of other places with Bondo, let it dry and then Sunday, did the sanding while other person headed to Home Depot to pick up a new railing and a replacement board for the top deck. Other person painted the new railing on both sides and edges. Much easier than trying to do it installed. Then, I gave the long lower railing another coat of paint covering up where I had filled in cracks on that one. I even did a rotten corner with Bondo which turned out looking like new when painted. So we’re good there. Then, yesterday, other person continued on the upper deck, and I painted the lower deck long stair railing. That is after I tied up a bunch of rose runners to the trellis and gave it a haircut. We still have all of the upright rails to do everywhere, but we are running out of time before it rains tonight. So, the plan today is for me to paint the upper deck stair railings. Don’t think that will take too much time. But we’ll see. Callie Cat is learning to stay away from painted surfaces so no more kitty tracks. We haven’t had time to get in a walk for three days, so hopefully we can at least do that at some point today. 🙂
I’m working on a plaid jumper dress for the Ruby Reds. Only in the cut it out and try and match the plaid stage, but something. 🙂

I think the blue flower material will work really well for Mae. It is pretty. Thanks for sharing the video. It is interesting how the dolls have their eyes, like if they are wondering if she will choose them or not. Also, thanks for letting us know that AG came out with new dolls. I can see some resemblance to the Wellie Wishers in some of their faces, but they don’t seem so innocent. I think the WW will always have a special place in my heart.
We had a consultation at the orthodontist this a.m. Looks like our eldest will be getting braces next Monday. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Our son had to have braces. He had TMJ so he had a Herbst appliance also. It was amazing to me how well he handled it all. Best of luck to your daughter.

  8. A fun video for sure.. The piece of Christmas fabric is really pretty as is the blue and white.

Yes, we saw the new AG dolls a few days ago. Ruby Red has nothing to worry about. Personally, I find the new AG’s not attractive at all.

  9. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Jeanne, I am a bit worried about George, like Joy, I pray he will be fine.
The video was cute, I had no problem viewing it.
I loved the blue fabric, it will be lovely for Mae.
Joy, I hope you will send a photo of your deck and garden when it is finished, we have heard so much about all the effort it would be a shame not to see it.
I didn’t look at the AG site but reading the comments I don’t think I will bother they don’t sound like my type of doll at all.
The weather is improving, Yay, I don’t think we have had a frost since I came home and, theoretically, we shouldn’t from now on. Sorry people but I am in no hurry for May to come, I want to enjoy summer first, lol. It will be Labour weekend in 3 weeks and that is the traditional time here for planting out for the summer. I will have to really get into the gardens soon.
    Have a great day all.

What a darling video. I can’t even imagine having all the things she has. And she must be very organized to be able to find what she needs when she needs it.

I love the pretty blue fabric for Mae. She will look adorable in whatever you make for her. The Christmas fabric is lovely also. I like the wool felt colors.

I recently started getting emails from Lindas.com. It is a quilt shop in McKinney, TX. At the same time I started seeing adds on my TV so it must be a new shop. I bought some fat quarters from her and the fabric and designs are lovely.

I have been working on a cut culotte and shirt outfit for one of my Little Darlings. The pattern is from Nata’s Doll Atelier in the Ukraine. Problem is there are no written instructions and the videos, while good, are spoken in Russian. I have to mute the sound in order to focus on the pictures. I’m already having to pull out a couple steps because I missed seeing something. Since I can’t understand the dialog, whenever she folds something, I can’t really tell the depth or width of the fold and nothing but the fold line is on the pattern. But the patterns are really cute, and I’ve made a few of hers in the past and they always turn out very nice and fit the dolls well. If I have any problems I can always contact her and she responds quickly and my reply is already translated for me.

It was 67 degrees here this morning so at least the mornings are cooler.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Ha, ha, Barbara, that is certainly not my shop, although I would certainly like to think I would be talented enough to have a quilt shop!
