HI everyone,
I guess that should read Cats like to wear “Kitty Clothes” but you’ll see what I mean…
I received these pictures and the email from Elizabeth explaining what these kitty pictures are all about! Talk about knowing how to do just about everything when it comes to a needle and thread… Elizabeth does!!!!
This is from Elizabeth:
I’ve been reading your posts and getting caught up! Been feeling under the weather for a few days with digestive issues, and today I had the final crown put on the tooth that was prepped two weeks ago.
I took photos of the “Cat” dolls I had made for two of my daughters who are both cat lovers. The inspiration comes from the book “Whimsical Elegance”, the Costumed Cat Dolls of Helen Cohen. I am sending them your way in case you might want to share them with your readers! And I remember your post showing Charlotte’s “stump” dolls…which is how my cat figures are made, with sculptured cat heads that were ordered online. There were no patterns to use…and since the clothing is permanently attached, there is no limit to using paper towels to create patterns where needed. Hats, shoes, hair, accessories are either sewn or glued onto the dressed stump doll.
Elizabeth certainly has an imagination, doesn’t she? She needs to have her hands insured, because they certainly are valuable… more than most!
Thanks for giving us a glimpse of your cat dolls in all their finery! We’ll have something to ponder about all weekend!
See everyone Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

Wow! I had no idea what to expect, Elizabeth. You have sure put a lot of details into the costuming of your cat dolls. And some of those fabrics are so sumptuous! That sort of terra-cotta-colored, embroidered fabric in the 6th picture, for instance. Did it come embroidered, or did you add machine embroidery to get that look? It’s wonderful.
The little purses with that last one, too–those are fantastic!
I do love the expression the first one has printed: As a matter of fact, I do need another pair of shoes! That is so me!!
Thank you, Charlotte! That embroidered fabric was in my stash…it was enough to create that outfit and it came embroidered. I think it came from a fabric remnant bin at JoAnn’s fabrics a few years ago…..we are certainly going to miss that fabric store! I always search out the fabric remnants because you never know what you will find and its usually just a small remnant that is perfect for doll clothes!
The purses are on that particular doll are because my daughter has so many purses of her own! And the doll with the shoe “sign” was done for my middle daughter because she loves shoes and even has that shoe sign (in a plaque size!) hanging over her closet door! I had to search online for the same sign and was able to print it out in miniature.
All I can say is WOW!!! Elizabeth thank you so much for sharing. I especially like the striped ribbon hair, so unexpected. I’m sure I’ll be looking at these a lot and be picking out such wonderful accents. I love the period inspired clothing. Again, wow.
Thank you, Dorothy! I didn’t have curly doll hair on hand to go with that doll so improvised with the ribbon…..I liked the way it turned out…thought it looked stylish! If you have a chance to see the book “Whimsical Elegance by Helen Cohen….whether from a library or check used books at Better World Books….it is so worth seeing her photos of many of her cat dolls! The ideas are limitless since the outfit can be stitched or glued onto the stump body and don’t need to be removed.
Amazing cat dolls😻 they look like characters in a fantasy! 🥰
Thank you, Joy, for commenting on the cat dolls! A person can lose all track of time when applying the fabrics and deciding on jewelry and trims to use. I’ve discovered a couple more cat heads on hand that I had not used yet so maybe more fantasy is in the future!
I had absolutely no idea what to expect. I was thinking of stuffed cats with clothes, but nope, kitty art dolls. What amazing creations. So detailed too. Wow! Now this kind of doll other person might be receptive to. Thanks for sharing Jeanne, and Elizabeth.
Here, I finally finished a few details on that simple outfit I’ve been working on for the Ruby Reds and pressed the pleats in front. Now, for some sun to get a photo. It was gloomy all day yesterday and sprinkles here and there so no painting taking place. But, this morning looks much more promising, so we’ll see what we can accomplish after it warms up. It was only 46 outside this morning and too cold inside for us as well, so I turned on the heat! Stood there wondering if the heater was still functioning since I turned it off in May. I heard a few clicks from the attic and finally on came the glorious heat! So glad I changed those filters. 🙂
Can’t wait to see the all finished outfit for Emmie. And I’m already thinking about what’s next in the sewing room. Take care, Jeanne, and happy weekend everyone. 🙂
I’m anxious to see your latest creation when it is finished. In reply to your comment to me yesterday, I have several more outfits on the drawing board (some of them school uniforms) and then I will think of a theme for a photo shoot. I guess I could do a belated back-to-school photo shoot and pretend it’s the days when we were growng up and say the film got lost at the developers and that’s why the pictures are late. The clothes are definitely back-to-school so I can’t use them for a holiday photo shoot. And I have one of those available all ready.
Well, the outfit I just finished, sewed a bow a bit ago, is probably best for back to school too. But, I’m calling it a holiday outfit. 🙂 Can’t wait for your lost film photo shoot! 🙂
Thank you, Joy! And Oh my goodness….46 degrees! That actually sounds refreshing….I am near Austin and the heat here has continued into October….been in the 90’s still! I hail from northern Indiana and you were lucky to be able to avoid turning on the furnace until the end of Sept! The A/C here now is running on 75 but was at 73 during the summer months. I can say though that I don’t miss the snow, wind, cold temps or the dreary gray days. Hanging flower baskets and potted plants did not last long in Indiana….maybe you could have them outside by the end of May and then were having to toss them when frost came….sometimes in Sept.
Hate to tell you this, but I have geraniums in hanging baskets on the front porch year around. They have survived frost for many years. Heat’s off. Sun came out. In fact, I got so hot, I had to come inside. Other person is still out painting. 🙂
Living just west of Houston I can relate to what you are saying about the weather. I went out at lunchtime hoping that the promised cool front had at least dropped the humidity and maybe feel a breeze or two. No front and no breeze. My son and his family are in Indiana visiting her family right now. I’m sure it’s cooler there but I refuse to ask till he gets home next week. Maybe it will be cooler here by then.
Elizabeth, you are amazing. Your creativity is off the charts. I had no idea what to expect today, but it wasn’t close to this. I never heard of stump dolls before Charlotte showed hers and now I’ve encountered them twice. If you’re into costuming more than doll making, stump dolls are perfect for this. You can make the dolls quickly and spend the rest of your time making gorgeous costumes and accessories. Your accessories are great.
Wow, Elizabeth, those kitty dolls are certainly amazing. So elegantly dressed and wearing crowns like royalty (as they should be 😹) The outfits are exquisite with such beautiful trimmings. I see lady #3 has a mouse friend under her skirt.
Hi, Laura! Thank you for enjoying the cat doll photos! The costumes did give me a chance to use trims, ribbons and jewelry that might not have worked for the RR doll outfits. That little mouse under the skirt was a jewelry pin of mine that seemed the perfect touch on the base of a cat doll…just had to remove the pin backing!
Thank you , Jeanne for sharing the photos of the cat dolls! Can you imagine if all of the doll lovers who read your post were to live in the same neighborhood? We would be able to visit each other to perhaps swap a piece of fabric in a particular color or chat about doll patterns and enjoy a cup of coffee and a piece of coffeecake if anyone had baked that day!
Have you seen the latest Ruby Red, Rosanna? I’ll bet that you could make some fabulous gowns for her. 🙂 https://rubyreddolls.com/products/rosanna-limited-edition
She is elegant. I wanted to order mini Stella but somehow I missed the initial offer and she’s sold out.
I would love it if my sofa sisters lived in my neighborhood. The possibilities for sharing would be endless.
I agree on the neighborhood, but then, I’d have to clean the house. Ugh
Well, I am just floored, started with the first one, which got a “WOW” and my eyes got bigger the more I saw. You are the queen of amazement, ElisabethI
I would love to see the reaction of your daughters when they see them. I love the fabrics and wigs, and all the additions, what fun you must have had putting them all together! Thank you and Jeanne for sharing them, I know I will be looking at them over and over, and see something different every time.
Oh, Elizabeth, how creative and elegant! I am a cat person pretty much, and just love seeing cats in all forms of art, and real life too! These kitties are certainly spoiled with all the lovely outfits and accessories! I love the way you fashioned their curls and oh my, all those beautiful buttons, ruffles, lace and bows! Just splendid! Each one is a work of art, and you are quite the artist! Thank you so much for giving us a treat today!
Oh Elizabeth…. I could look at elegant kitties and fancy clothes all day. These are incredible. Stunning! Excellent choice of fabrics and accessories.
Thank you so much, if you make more please share. Every detail is purrrrfect
I am glad you are feeling better too Elizabeth. And a crown finally placed is good. I have a lot of dental work (all my life, a dentist in Belgium told me my teeth were soft as butter) – so I know the pleasure of sitting in a dental chair…
Happy Friday everyone, I have been busy! The sew along. I am supposed to be making 15 maple leaf blocks since Monday the 6th. !!!! I have completed 7.
I do not feel ashamed. “I do not care”. … that is just a funny saying
Have you viewed https://www.instagram.com/justbeingmelani/?hl=en Melani Sanders. I am sure she is on other platforms as well.
I know, most of us are past menopause, but still, …. WE already knew this! right?
Have a happy week-end. Get stuff done, or chillax 😹😹 You are loved
I see Melani on Facebook, and she is a hoot! And I also enjoy reading the comments about things other ladies “do not care” about any more, also! She does now include us post-menopausal women in most of her posts, also, which I’m glad to see. I’ve had many a laugh over her posts!
