A dolly blouse is born…

Hi everyone,
Just a quick reminder: TONIGHT, Ten Ping will have to give up her outfit, “Little Punkin!” I know she’ll be heartbroken because she told me she REALLY liked this one. She said she was planning to wear it when she went to the Pumpkin Patch in a few weeks. I tried my best to tell her it was going to some other little girl who needed it more! She found that hard to believe, but got undressed and then I saw her crying.
I’m sure she’ll be the next one to raise her hand when she sees me looking in my glass doll cabinet for the next model! :o)

If you haven’t checked out “Little Punkin” on Ebay, you can click on the right side bar picture and it will take you to the listing on Ebay, or you can click HERE. Thanks, everyone, for all your kind comments on this set!

Okay, now to the “other” set of overalls… on Emmie! I don’t know HOW ON EARTH it took me so long to make this blouse… well, maybe I do!

1. I had to find the pattern I wanted to use… which happened to be a Ruby Red Fashion Friends pattern, and then reduce it just a bit for the Little Darlings who are a little bit smaller.
2. I had to press my fabric with a little bit of spray starch as it’s a rayon and it was pretty “floppy” to try and cut out and sew.
3. I had to stop and help my hubby with his carport for a while. I was putting the rubber washers on the screws for him and he was screwing them into the trim along the edges.
4. Even though I let the starch set and then pressed it, the fabric was still floppy so extra care and time had to be taken to line up all the edges and make sure things were straight. (It’s STILL NOT HEMMED!)
5. I had to sew on 3 tiny buttons and then 3 sets of snaps being careful not to catch any threads that weren’t supposed to be caught. 2 times I had to take off a snap and start over.
OK… that’s enough excuses. It just took time but it turned out sweet. (if you don’t look at the unfinished hem)

I had a few tiny rust-colored buttons and used 3 of them on the front of the blouse.

You may have seen a bit of blond hair in that picture. Joy mentioned in her comment that it looked like Emmie had just hopped out of bed.
I looked at her pictures again and that wig IS pretty wild, so I tried something else. I haven’t had her in this platinum blonde wig in a REALLY long time…since March 2018! These were some of her best pictures…

Anyway, I put that wig on her again and she seemed to like it better. I showed my pictures to my hubby and he said she looked like a Scandinavian little girl… then he changed it to “she looks like a model!” I’ll take that as good!

I used a rubber band down low and caught the edge of her blouse right below her hips. It worked great at holding down the blouse.

I got those straps cut off, Linda, but they may get a bit of a trim still.

And that’s it for today…

Tomorrow you’re going to see some Costumed Cat Dolls! You won’t want to miss it! It’s from Elizabeth so you know it’ll be great!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, that blouse turned out just adorable!! And yes, rayon can be a little tricky to handle, due to its soft hand and looser weave than most cottons. It looks like the spray starch trick worked well enough that you were able to get the blouse cut out and work started.

Emmie does look really cute in that blonde wig! Lots of possibilities there.

Rosemary, I looked up that Under the Maple Tree quilt–very pretty! I hope you’ll post a picture when you have yours finished.

    1. I will Charlotte. I completed 4 leaves yesterday, it was sooooo nice to just sit at my machine and chain sew, chain press etc. I am happy with the results. …. not perfect points everywhere, but close enough. It is a really cute fun quilt.

Jeanne, how cute this turned out! I take back what I originally mentioned about not quite liking the blouse material. Actually, when I first saw it, I thought it would be more for an “old ladies” dress, because of all the flowers! It reminded me of the kind of material my grandmother wore! Well, no more! When you put it with the overalls, it just immediately changed “ages”! And that wig is adorable on Emmie, especially when it is in pigtails!

The straps a fine now, just hope they don’t curl up eventually. That is always a problem with leather. I like the points on them rather than just cut straight across.
This is such a cute outfit, and perfect for the season! Pumpkin Patch, here she comes!

Jeanne, the blouse is just perfect with the overalls, and her hair is so sweet with it too. I did see a place on her bangs that could use a bit of a trim. I have always had bangs so I guess I notice them. Hoping Ten Pink’s outfit will rocket to the sky, and that you can give her something to make her happy!

The termite guy will be here this afternoon to put death on them. I hope. He said that the former people that worked there did NOT to a good job checking our place.

I am really looking forward to tomorrows cats! Yay, Elizabeth!

  4. Good morning everyone. How is it Thursday already?
It is chilly here in Northern Virginia. My kitty Princess is so cold she is upstairs in her favorite room snuggled in her heated bed…. she is cornish rex, so she her fur is overly skimpy.
Jeanne, this blouse is so cute and goes perfectly with the poofy pants.
    I just love it.
This blond wig is gorgeous. My mom had platinum blond hair when she was a little girl. I love looking at the photos of her from that time.
I hope all of you have a happy productive day, …. or just a happy day is good too.
    Love, Rosemary

Emmie looks so sweet as a blond. Although, I do like her in a dark wig too. Sometimes, I just can’t keep my mouth shut, like on that bed head comment. Sorry. The blouse is so sweet and looks great with the overalls. Add a couple of pumpkins or a turkey and she’ll be all set. 🙂
Jeanne worked on the carport and here, I was back to the blackberry that has grown so much since the last yanking. But, it was much easier now that it is clear underneath. Have the garbage green can 2/3 full, but still need to do the area closer to the pathway. Going to have to wait though, as we had sprinkles overnight.
Good news, I finished hemming that outfit I’ve been working on. Yay. Hope to get a picture soon.
Callie Cat was waiting by the slider at 6:30 on the spot, but wasn’t even wet, so we didn’t get much rain at all. Crows are calling, so I need to get their kibble ready. 🙂

  6. I love Emmie in this platinum wig, especially with the braids. She looks adorable. This blouse is perfect with the overalls. I really like the print. Good idea about the rubber band. I need to keep that in mind. I just finished a skirt and blouse set and it was easy to pull the blouse down from underneath the skirt. But the other outfit I just finished was culottes and a blouse and it was hard to get the blouse situated by reaching up the leg of the culottes. Eventually I got everything the way I wanted it but I’ll have to do that every time I put the outfit on her and I want to make more of those outfits. I don’t want to do a blouse with attached panties because I want her to be a able to wear the blouse on top of other things like pants.

Looking forward to seeing Elizabeth’s costumed cat dolls.

  7. This blouse’s color and print is so pretty. Another pant set coming up! I like the fit of the pants and the suspenders/or straps add to it – very cute.
Emmie does look Scandinavian with the blond wig. She’s a very pretty model no matter what her hair color she’s wearing. I never got one of these dolls either. Maybe now … and Ten Ping.

Finally got referred to a hand specialist. I’m able to do certain things with my hand but sometimes just turning it sideways it’s very painful. I have ironing to do but that may have to wait. It’s clothes that aren’t in demand right now anyway.

    Everyone have a nice day!

Sure hope the hand specialist does wonders. For me, it the wrists. Arthritis I guess. Next door knobs will be the push down kind, not round. 🙂

I didn’t get to check the blog yesterday but looked at it today. I enjoyed all Marilyn’s comments. The dresses are all lovely.
Jeanne, I love the outfit on Ten Ping. I am not so sure about the outfit on Emmie but sorry, unlike everyone else I really don’t like the platinum blonde wig. I thought the dark wig suited the outfit more. Just me hope no one is offended.

On a different topic, I have been following Monica Poole from Pattern Poole for many years. She has YouTube videos on QAYG but I bought a book of hers many years ago and used her cover strip method whenever I could since I find quilting a large quilt on my machine is nearly impossible these days. anyway, Monica together with her daughter Alaura, have started a new quilting magazine (online only) and amongst all the many projects they have a block of the month (except it is two blocks) and I am doing that. It is very much a sampler quilt, the first two blocks are both applique but using bias tape. Rosemary you might be interested to have a look. It is 25AUD which will be a bit cheaper for you I think. I think it is a bit less than $17 US and there is (or was) 20% off the first issue. I have finished the block but I have decided I will quilt them all at the end, they are very big blocks and would take up a lot of space for the 6 months it will take to finish, space I don’t have at the moment.

    Have a great day everyone

  9. Adorable, Jeanne!! All of your dolly outfits. I want you to make all my outfits, purses, shoes…although they won’t look nearly as cute on me as on your precious little girls!
