A pink fuzzy doll sweater is featured today!!!

Hi everyone,
As promised, I told you Rosemary would be sharing her doll wearing the pink fuzzy sweater she won from Anne. This is what she shared with me…

Dear Jeanne,
I pretended I was a doll clothes seamstress this past week. All three girls are happily clothed now. These are my AG dolls, Felicity and “girl of today” named Christina. Both dolls are from 1995 I think.

All of these girls love being upstairs in my sewing space!

Then Emilia, the sweet little flower “Glitter Girl” that my oldest daughter, (Christina!) bought for me – well, to make clothes for her daughter’s dolls! Ha Ha!!

I gave Emilia’s clothes and shoes to Lauren, so this poor thing was wrapped in a terrycloth robe for quite a while.
So, I found these patterns on line and made a simple dress and a shirt and shorts. Very easy quick construction. then I made the “sock” polar fleece slippers for her feet.

“Hi everyone!” Emilia, Christina and Felicity, “look at my snuggly boots!”

Anne, your sweater is a gem! I am so very happy to have it!
“I like my pink dress, but it not as fancy as I had hoped 😟” me: πŸ˜†πŸ˜‚ “and brrrr, my feets are cold”

Yes, I had two girls, so braiding hair is not too difficult.

“Look at me! I am so cute and adorable and pretty!”

“Can I wear this outfit on the playground? I promise I won’t get it dirty.”

Making doll clothes is really fun!
Love, Rosemary

Hi Rosemary,
I bet your girls hope going upstairs becomes a weekly event for them… If not, send them outside to play!
Thanks so much for sharing! You did a great job on making the clothes and socks!!!

See everyone tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, thank you all for your lovely comments on my Expo pictures. I was on the computer quite a bit last Friday, and tried to reply to everyone. I just checked tonight, and there were three more comments (2 from DesignDreamer and one from Paula) and I have replied to them now, too.

Rosemary, your Emilia looks so pretty in that pink sweater!! I think it might be “her” color!! You did a nice job on her dress. Does the fabric have a woven-in design? It kind of looks like it, from what I can see. Her fleece “boots” are very cute, also. In fact, all of your girls look wonderful.

You are fortunate you can braid hair so well. I have always said, God knew what He was doing when He gave us a boy. I have no skill with hair whatsoever!! The first time I had to redo my Molly’s braids, I think it took three tries before her they looked even halfway similar!

    1. Completely Charlotte. God gave me the girls, He knew I would be in a corner sobbing with boys. haha
The dress fabric is some very thin cotton with indeed an added machine embroidered design. Very open though. I think this was a blouse of some sort my sister gave me many years ago. It was way too small with an elasticised bodice. Anyway, I knew it would make some great doll outfits.
The sweater is a huge deal over here, Felicity and Christina are thrilled to see Emilia in it and looking so snuggly

I did not have time to check out the blog Friday so I did it this morning. I love all the twinsie outfits, especially those jackets in the final picture. Your Viking Knitting piece is beautiful and it sounds like a fun thing to do. What wonderful purchases too. I enlarged the pictures and then zoomed in so I could get a good look at them all. What is the bobbin thingee? I forget what you called it. Nice patterns for your sewing friend to use. Very thoughtful. So glad you had a wonderful time.

      1. Charlotte Trayer

The bobbin thing is called a Bob Sled! The pointy end part opens to hold needles. I think that it only works with certain sizes of bobbins, and probably that would Not be my Viking ones, but I have a hunch it will work with the ones for my little Janome Quilt and Craft, and the newer Elna Lotus (which both take the same size bobbins), so I will try it out. If it doesn’t work for my bobbins, it will make a nice gift come the ASG gift exchange!

What a cute sweater, and it suits Emilia. Sweaters are great for dressing up or down, and Anne’s are so varied. What is the fuzzy yarn called? My sweater has that yarn around the hood. The sweater itself is stylish but unfussy — perfect for Kit — and the fuzzy yarn around the hood makes it special. We used to have a lovely big yarn store near her, but it closed during COVID. I still miss it.

    1. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

      Hi Marilyn
The yarn is an eyelash yarn, it was sold here at Spotlight (a big Australian co that is known for selling crafts mostly though they do sell other things) it was marketed as Flurry but I haven’t seen it for a long time. I’ll send a photo of one of the sweaters I used to knit for the girls when they were much younger using the yarn. I used to have a lot of it but not so much now, mainly white I think

      1. Eyelash yarn, I like that! Flurry I like too, Anne!
I need to remember that because I am sure I will receive many compliments and questions about the beautiful sweater!
It is very pretty in pink. I am sure it was tickley when you were making the sweater. I love it. I can’t wait for my grand girls to come up at Easter and see my dollies!

    Hi Jeanne, and everyone!

Rosemary, I got a kick of seeing your little doll story! So cute and I really think Emilia was for β€œyou” to play with!😊. She is adorable, and those socks are darling! You also did a wonderful job on the two play outfits for the bigger girls! That’s really what most little girls are wearing around here!

Emilia looks so happy in her pretty pink sweater! I have a white one like that, and my smaller dolls β€œthink” they now have a fur coat! 🀣 Her new dress goes very well with the new sweater and I am thinking a pair of pretty shoes and socks will help round the outfit out! Maybe a pair of white Mary Jane’s, or even white sandals will be good for the coming spring and summer.

You did a wonderful job on her braids! I too, had a daughter to β€œpractice” on, but before that I had my dolls, and even I wore braids sometimes when small!

Thank you for sending your pictures, and to Jeanne for showing them!

Such an adorable story and lovely girls, Rosemary! You always make things fun and sew such lovely things for your dolls, and for us to see. Thank you! I am still waiting to start sewing again to make my outfit for my sweater. My two Moppet girls are pouting at me.

We seem to have little morning time, and have to go back to Savannah again this morning. This time for computers. Peyton’s went dead as a door nail and no one could bring it back. He is getting a new one today but can’t but the things he had in the old one in the new one. He has been using mine and really messed it up working on his stuff…it got in my stuff and I can’t find a lot of my things. I hope the computer guy can fix mine and get some of his out of mine into his new one.

Then, on Saturday, my yard guy was helping me getting a lot of over grown frond bushes out of the back of the house. We have too many of these fronds that have grown way to big and they are way too many of them. I told him very carefully what to leave alone, like one that belonged to the neighbor, and mine that had grown into a lovely hedge just take out the dead frond leaves. He could get rid of the others. I went to the front of the house to work on some. small ones growing in the yard. When I came back to see what he had done I was in tears!! He had taken away the bottom of the neighbor’s fronds and cut out ALL of my hedge except 4 frond pieces sticking up, the rest was gone. He just decided he new better than I, I guess. It took my hedge years to grow like I wanted it. I will never have him back again, and it is a shame because we had become friends.

Thank you for putting a bright light in my morning, Rosemary, I needed that after our week.

    1. Thank you Sissy. You are a dear.
No surprise, I have never grown up.
My hubbs, Rex is a mac pro. We have had Mac computers since…. seriously, since 1994? Very early. Always Mac.
I get a new Mac about every other year, new iPhones, and watches and iPads. I am my hubby’s tester haha He loves electronics. He usually sells the old stuff on eBay or gives it away to someone special when they are old. (funny life over here haha)
I hope you have success with the new computer. Apple is pretty good with online/phone assistance.
Be sure to get a virus barrier. So many viruses wrecking computers these days.

      1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Rosemary, we have had MAC’s for many years, especially me, and several years ago Peyton got his, and now have yet another one I bought last year. Problem was we didn’t pay attention to how old his was and it died so dead no one could get any of his stull in it. We didn’t realized that his putting stuff in mine would mess every thing up when trying to get some of his new one from things in mine. It is a mess.

        1. Oh dear. This brings so many memories, Sissy. You would not believe πŸ₯ΉπŸ₯²πŸ₯°πŸ˜‚
My hubbs got my dad and mom into MACs 40 years ago?
And yes, they get outdated and old. We kept daddy’s going. He never wanted upgrades but there were limits to how long that can be endured. Hubbs always tried to make the transitions and upgrades as easy and smooth as possible. It does help to have an Apple nerd in the family.

    2. Joy in northern CA

I a so very sorry about your shrubbery. Maybe it was a language barrier? Don’t know. Around town here, you can certainly tell who has a gardner because those that do, have all of their shrubs cut off with flat tops and trimmed round accordingly. It looks like a bunch of flat top stools parked all over the yards. Everything is raked and clean, but you can certainly tell that everything was trimmed with a gas trimmer. Maybe you’ll luck out and have some new spring growth. Hope so. So sad.
The computers around here are both outdated. But, the thought of moving everything and doing the start up for the new ones is daunting. So, they are still in the boxes at the moment. With spring beckening, I don’t think it will happen for awhile. We’re going to take them to Staples to have everything transferred. I don’t even want to try.

      1. Yes, that is the positive and negative about yard help, sometimes things look stunning, or it can be a mess. The trimmer edger they use really beats up the wood and edge of the house – I have noticed that at our old house.
Here we have grass guys, but I prefer they leave my gardens alone. I have reflectors in my gardens to indicate that.
I am very sorry Sissy, I hope some of it grows back….
I have a whole bunch of Liriope the builder put in my gardens and I do not like it. I will mail it to you πŸ˜† just kidding.

        1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Thank you, Rosemary, but I doubt I will live long enough to see my hedge grow back. I don’t know what Liriope is but if you don’t like it I wouldn’t either!

      2. Barbara in SE Texas

Joy, I feel your pain on the hassle of getting a new computer. We recently did that and I’m glad it’s over. I have an external hard drive I take to the Geek Squad when I get a new computer and they transfer everything onto that and then onto my new computer. Problem is they can’t transfer software so it’s back to square one on that. Since I don’t change computers often, my software is out-of-date (mostly Home Design and Quicken) so I had to buy new programs. Then I had to do a search in my downloads for the Jacquie Lawson Advent calendars since I like to keep them on my computer and look back at them and play the games. Between getting a new computer and a new cell phone recently, plus a new printer, I’ve had enough updating of technology to last me for another few years.

        1. Joy in northern CA

Tks Barbara. Looks like we will probably have lots of things to think about when we transfer.

      3. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Joy, we have known this guy for many years, but he usually cute down trees at our house, that is what he is best at. I didn’t just tell him, I showed him exactly what to do. He just did the way he wanted it, and he went crazy with his cutter.

      4. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Joy, just be careful you don’t wait to long to take care of your computers. Peyton waited too long and lost everything in his.

        1. yes that happens!!!
My daddy waited too long and lost stuff and he was so grumpy about it for a long long time.
My older daughter said one of her friends suggested that EVERY day (yeah right) you should go through your folders and photos and clean up. She suggested making a check off calendar so you can be sure which days are missed and you can catch up ………It sounds like a great idea but …… πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Christina suggested I do this while treadmilling, since I built a desk on my treadmill…. hmmmm

    3. Oh, Sissy. I am so very sorry about your yard disaster. A similar thing happened here when, for the first time ever, we had someone come to clear out a dead pussy willow and other things in the bottom of the yard. We specified to not go beyond a certain point and to absolutely not touch the mock orange or the lilies which were just about the bloom. My mom and I went to the front for less then five minutes to talk with a neighbor. I returned to the backyard just in time to scream “stop” as he was nearly on the other side of the house cutting down my ferns. He had cut the lilies to the ground and all except one branch of the mock orange was gone, but the dead pussy willow had not been touched yet. Mind you, this was a native English speaker.

      1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Oh, Laura, That was awful! I would have kicked him out with no pay. That is what I should have done but the rest of the work he had done as I asked.

      2. Joy in northern CA

Oh, Laura, what a disaster. I would be fighting mad. I think a lot of these people are not gardeners, but brush removers. They probably do not know the difference and think all plants should be removed so they can get a job pouring cement or putting in pavers. Only good thing I can think of is that the lilies here always return the next year. Not that that is any help.

  5. Joy in northern CA

Emilia gets a sweater! What a great book title. She is adorable in the casual shorts and the sweet dress. So glad that she has that warm sweater by Anne, and the cute little boots. I’m sure that she appreciates them so she can prance around on your lovely floors. Good job Rosemary. Thanks for letting us meet your dolls.
We had two days at 80 over the weekend so today, I’m going to have to break out the hose and do some watering. Cooler today, but it’s going to heat up again soon. I don’t think that rain is expected until after the end of the month, if we are lucky. Summer here we come.
Well, today is someone’s birthday around here. Not mine. It’s a biggie. I guess that I’ll be making lemon cake later and probably artichoke roll ups too. πŸ™‚ You won’t believe how old the person is today. πŸ™‚

    1. Joy in northern CA

I forgot. My latest Ruby Red made it to LA yesterday. So, I suspect after customs, that she will arrive later this week. I hope that I can figure out a plan to get her inside safely. πŸ™‚

      1. Happy Birthday to other person, Joy. Haha, How nice that you bought a doll in honor of his birthday. Promise to give her a feminizing of his name for her middle if you get caught and you should be fine. πŸ™‚

    2. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Happy Birthday to Other Person and hopes for his out of the way when the next doll arrives!

    3. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Joy, my sleuthing skills tell me that it must be Other Person’s Birthday. I hope he had a nice celebration. I am sure that the doll children were cheering in their own way (smile).

  6. πŸ₯° Sorry for commenting so late – you know time change and all haha just kidding.
Daughter Christina called about two hours ago…. my oldest daughter, we blabbed for two hoursπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Good morning dear ones! Yay, I am so happy to share my sewing skills and pictures. Again, x100, Thank you Anne for this very beautiful treasure.
I have my three girls sitting happily in my very huge sewing space upstairs. … sometimes glaring at me for maybe some skirts and blouses! -I have so much fabric!
Did this week-end fly by? Oh my. well, I do think I mentioned that estranged daughter Elizabeth had called us out of the blue on a week-day over a week ago.
I failed to send Mason’s birthday card (he just turned 6) and I found some cute old story books saved from the old house (Little Critters, Henry and Mudge) and packed them up in a bank box with some older books for the girls. and brought them over last very dreary Thursday afternoon. I took the back roads south to Bristow, all roads with the historic fields of Manassas battlefields! Beautiful drive.
Lizzie was home, but I did not stay, I just dropped off the box and the card and gave her a hug, and told her I loved her. She looked weary, tired! I did not stay longer than 10 minutes.
I will not make a habit of showing up unannounced anymore… I just think it is kind of not good, but I wanted to get his Birthday card sent.

This week-end I had projects to do, cleaning etc, but my sewing was calling me and I was upstairs in my room sewing blocks, starting a new chain quilt, it is fun.

Thank you everyone for your very kind compliments on my fashion show.
These girls are such great company but they sometimes get into mischief and go through the unpacked disorganized piles upstairs and make a mess and then they ask too many questions!!
Have a super happy day today, everyone

Really loved your fashion show. All the outfits are so cute and what a sweet little dress. It goes perfect with the beautiful fuzzy sweater. Thaks for sharing.

Glad that you were able to take books to your grands. I’m sure that they will enjoy them. πŸ™‚

  7. Barbara in SE Texas

I really appreciated seeing Rosemary’s wonderful fashion show. With so many of my sofa sisters showing all their wonderful accomplishments lately, I was inspired to finally begin making the dress to go with the pretty white sweater Anne made. It takes me a while to decide on a fabric. I finally chose three and boiled it down to one I loved. So I started pinning the pattern pieces on the fabric and found there wasn’t enough fabric to make the dress. Back to square one. I have some 1/2 yard pieces but I couldn’t remember which they were so I went to Etsy and looked up my purchases so I would have instant recognition when I saw the fabric. I fairly quickly found the 1/2 yard pieces and, while most of the prints were too large since I usually buy the bigger pieces for my bigger dolls, I did find one perfect piece that was a smaller scale. Then I picked the trim. Now I just need to get in my sewing room and sit down and make the dress. Unfortunately with having to find a lawyer if we need one to fight the city and needing to get things ready for our tax guy, I have no clue how soon that will happen.

    1. Joy in northern CA

I am so glad that our taxes are with our tax person. Takes so much to gather everything. And that property/city mess and needing a lawyer does not sound fun at all. I sure hope that the city comes to their senses. Sounds like a real mess.
But happy that you have figured out the fabric for the dress. Hope you can find some free time soon.

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

I don’t think it will take too long to put together the tax stuff since this year was pretty normal and he sends me a form to fill out based on the year before. I’d just rather be sewing. As for the city stuff, it’s the thing nightmares are made of. I sent the initial request off to the lawyer today but I have a more complete timeline and explanation that goes back 30 years when we first challenged some things they were doing after they got Home Rule and we got on their focus list. And it’s been getting worse lately so it was definitely time to find a lawyer even if they hadn’t been threatening our business and jumping the gun on issuing a citation. That’s the part that’s going to get them into trouble plus not honoring our request for a meeting to make sure we were on the same page with things. Shows total lack of cooperation and desire to have a peaceful conclusion on their part. I usually hate confrontation but I’m good at it if I have to be. I’d just rather be sewing.

  8. It’s so nice to see your dolls, Rosemary. I love that you have an older PC Felicity. I love the PC girl with their brighter hair and softer makeup. You AGOT Christina is very sweet. I can’t see her eye well so I can’t tell if she is #3 (not Kirsten), 6, or someone else.
Emilia looks fantastic in her new clothes and lovely new sweater from Anne.

    1. Forgot to comment on Emilia’s lovely braids. I loved doing elaborate hairstyles on my daughter when she had nearly waist length hair from seven to twelve – braids, French braids, inside out French braids, ropes, buns, etc. I could even do a French braid or rope on my own hair when I had it long.

      1. This is really a great skill, Laura. I never learned how to braid hair and I had two grumpy older sisters, I do not think they ever braided their hair!
I learned by doing. Both of my girls had great hair!
When I was younger, a young adult, I had long hair. I liked it but never could braid it at all. I did not know how to braid hair.
I wish I could have braided my hair because my occupation out of college was an RN in an orthopedic surgeons offices. I was the boss nurse for a few years. Anyway, I would just pull my hair back into a low ponytail, so messy, and that was back in the late 70’s early 80’s, when messy hair was not cool.
I miss that long hair. The only thing I do not miss? is πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I am serious, I do not miss strangling on it in the middle of the night, dreaming of choking and waking up with hair across my neck πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ so funny to remember that. Also the knots which were not common but sometimes horrible.
I wish I had known you back then and then I would have had nice braids, and the surgeons would tell me my hair looked nice πŸ™‚

  9. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Good morning everyone, it is Tuesday morning here so coffee morning with my friends.
I am glad you love the sweater Rosemary. The dress looks lovely.
I am pretty hopeless with hair, I only had one daughter and the best I could manage with her was blow waving into a ‘pageboy’ style. On the other hand the same daughter is very clever with hair and has two daughters neither of which can bear anyone touching their hair and the youngest has hair down to her waist.

I always feel sorry for you all at tax time, I have seen videos on YouTube of how complicated it can be. If you are employed (or on a pension or benefit) here you don’t have to fill in a form, the tax dept knows how much you earned and how much you have paid. If you haven’t paid enough for some reason if it is under $200 they wipe it. If you have paid too much the extra money appears in your bank account and they send you a letter which arrives about a week after the money. Sam got a rebate of $2000 last year which she wasn’t expecting (and hadn’t applied for). Their slogan is “It’s our job to be fair”. If you own a business it is different of course though I suspect our IRD wouldn’t be interested in the amount Jeanne makes from selling her outfits for example. Lots of people I know in the Cake Decorating Guild sell their cakes without issue, I did it for years. If you advertise then the IRD might be interested because then you are more like a business and might be making more than pin money.

I have to go it is nearly 9am and I need my shower before going to coffee. have a lovely day everyone

    1. Anne, Happy Tuesday to you!!
Funny stories about kids hair. I do not recall combing my hair EVER as a kid. My mom did and it was often a bit painful haha
Yes, tax time is a huge headache. At present, hubbs and I are doing all of the legal work for my daddys estate, and we have a very good friend accountant that is doing the taxes for us.
Estates and wills are a gigantic headache, but we do it lovingly and hope that we can learn from this – and we have.
I hope you have a fun coffee party🌼

    2. Barbara in SE Texas

There is an alternative tax idea here called the FairTax. You can look it up. David and I have been supporting it for years. I used to volunteer for them in Houston. The Bill is in Congress but never gets anywhere because too many people depend on the current tax system for many things. They don’t mind loaning their money to the government for a year with no interest and then getting their own money back. They look at it as forced savings. But people like us who own a small business or don’t have any dependents pay in but usually need to add more at the end of the year. I know people who don’t pay anything in but still get a sizable return because they have children. But you have to be working to qualify for this so you might say those people are the working poor.
