Wednesday’s Whimsical Wearables…

Here we are on “Wednesday.” We’ve had Monday’s Menagerie and Tuesday’s Tantalizing Tresses Today’s post is called Wednesday’s Whimsical Wearables…and I hope you enjoy this one as much as the last two days.

Whimsical… what exactly is it? Well, the dictionary definition is “playfully quaint or fanciful, especially in an appealing and amusing way.”

Want my definition? FUN! That’s it… when I look at something and it makes me take a second glance AND smile… I call that whimsical. It might be a special fun fabric or the tilt of a hat or an applique sewn near the hem or a purse with some extra charm…

So let’s take a look from the archives at some of my “whimsical wearables” and see if you agree! :o)

If you are viewing this on a laptop or desktop, click on most of the pictures and see them full screen to see all the details.

Well, I hope that was enough WHIMSY for your Wednesday!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, what fun! I do remember some of those outfits, too!

I think my favorite was the first one–Riley’s little kitty outfit. But I love Molly’s ducky dress, and the black/leopard print outfit (can’t remember who is wearing it), and Lian’s lavender outfit, and of course Ten Ping’s pretty orchid petticoat, had and shoes!

My new Boneka came yesterday, and we are working on a name. She came with the name “Mona,” but it’s not my favorite, so I’m thinking something close, like Monika. Stay tuned!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I just ran across that kitty fabric the other day and instantly thought of Rileys dress set. Glad it was one of your favorites.
That’s Katie Effanbee in the black with leopard print set. It was much prettier in person than it looks in my pictures.

Congratulations on your new Boneka doll. They are uch sweet little girls. I’m sure a name will come to you.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. What a show!! The appliqué on the green jumper outfit is just beautiful! Not sure which doll she is. Also, Isabelle(?) ,Little Darlings, in the black and white plaid/check, that outfit is so striking on her. I think it’s Janie in the orange print dress with the straw hat and orange ribbon? Love that outfit- it’s so sweet and summery and feminine. What type of doll is Janie? And how tall is she? I forget.
Thank you again for a lovely parade of your models. Jeanne, you have such talent!!

    1. Hi Paula,
That is Bitty Bethany in the green jumper with the appliques. Shes an 11″ Helen Kish doll I used to have.
I liked that black and white checked dress so much,vi made it in the American Girl and Katie Effanbee sizes too… it’s pretty timeless, isn’t it?
That’s my Katie Effanbee in the orange and white gauzy summer dress with the straw hats. One of my VERY favorite photos ever!!
I had 2 Katie dolls…they are 17″ tall. Glad you enjoyed seeing them today.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Loved the LD dresses, especially the black and white and the denim jumper with the ladybug motif. Did you make that ladybug? It is so perfect on that leaf and rickrack.

Two more days of very hot, dry weather for us, and then the fog will roll in. We’ll hit 100 today or more. Hoping we can take the 20 mile drive to the coast and have lunch. Usually so much cooler there.

    1. Hi Joy,
I loved that denim with ladybug jumper set. I only wish my pictures had turned out better. They are a bit dark unless you view them on a big monitor. Then they are pretty bright.
No, I didn’t make the ladybug…I bought it.
      Glad you liked it.

It’s another hot day here too! Is so pretty looking from inside my house, but as soon as you step outside its miserable.
Oh well, it will be over soon…we hope.
      Thanks Joy

  4. Goodness what a fun post today. Sadly I don’t recognize a lot of the dolls so I can just describe outfits. They are all wonderful but I especially love the ones where you have duplicated the design from the shirt onto the jumper. Before I had all the equipment at home to do the resizing of designs, I used our copier at work. I often took a piece of fabric and copied it on the copier. I could resize it and use that to make an applique for the front of a dress, jumper, shirt, etc. I really need to dig up some of those pictures. They were usually holiday clothes so I know I have pictures. Be fun to revisit them again.

I’ve lined up back-to-school for Betsy, my MA Lissy and my H4H Dell. Really cute stuff – but nothing whimsical.

Really enjoyed the fashion show today. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for tomorrow. Got to get on with my day. The grandkids will be here with their dad soon. Most of the schools around here are back in session so we’ll probably have the city pool mostly to ourselves. Then a final trip to Typhoon Texas waterpark tomorrow, where we can be assured the lines will not be long. My grandkids’ school is one of the last to start (8/26). All the other schools in the waterpark area are back.

    1. Hi Barbara,
So glad you saw some new things today. Those appliques were some that were bought and some cut freehand. I love to mimic the designs in things…whether it’s by thread or by felt cutouts.
I hope you have fun at the pool tomorrow. That actually sounds divine to me!!
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Chloe is here and looking adorable. Thanks, Jeanne. She was glad you sent her priority so she could get out of that hot box quickly. She arrived on a good day. It’s only going to be 98 degrees today.

    1. Hi Barbara,
Yay…a new sister for your girls! I hope they all have a lot of fun together. Glad Chloe made it there safely!!
You better get the pool ready for your girls. I bet they would love it. I saw a little blow up pool in dolly size the other day and saran wrap was crinkled up in it, making it look like real water. It was pretty cute.
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    Dear Jeanne,
    Wonderful Wednesday write-up.
    Whimsy was whetted.
    Wishing wondrous week!

  7. Fun, fun, fun today, Jeanne! I wanted to wait and really look at all the darling outfits before writing, so I am late! Did I recognize a fabric background that is a dress that I have? The tan and white checked piece? Sure does look like it! I remember most all of those outfits, and you certainly have made quite a few whimsical ones! I can never make up my mind on what I like best, so won’t even try!
So you liked Ruthie’s hair in the ice cream cart pictures? Wait till you see her next time!!

    1. Hi Linda,
Are you talking about the checked background where Ten Pingvis sitting in her slip?
That’s actually a light blue checked fabric…that I’ve only used as a backdrop.
Yes. I thought Ruthie was exceptionally cute in that romper with her hair fixed that way. I did Edens hair sort of like that one time when she was modeling a 40’s dress for me…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Jeanne, not that picture, but pictures22 and 23. I don’t know the name of the doll, but she has shorter black hair, and is wearing a mostly blue dress with children playing in water, and a little jacket with ducks on it. I really think it is the dress material (background) that I have for Betsy, that you made for Isabelle.

        1. HI Linda,
Oh, yes, that was one I showed on Lian…my little Taupe and White dress… I missed that background…
So Betsy is liking it? It might work for school… IF there is air conditioning… but not like it is today!
Too hot for anything but PLAY CLOTHES!
          Thanks Linda,
          Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Omgosh…there is no way to even begin to pick a favorite, Keep this post handy and use it every so often…I could look at it all the time! One cuter than the other. Maybe those felt flowers need to make a re appearance. They are so sweet!

    1. Thanks Kathie,
I’m so glad you liked it that much!! It was fun for me to see all these outfits in one place! I dont think I could pick a favorite either.
      Thank you
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Ooh, whimsical Wednesday. I think I just now caught on to how you are naming the posts! Actually, the first picture could fit Monday’s menagerie post with all the cats. I like seeing all the dolly pictures, and comparing who is wearing which outfit. I saw several dolls that you no longer have, at least I don’t think so, so those were some nice memories.

    1. Hi Carolyn,
Thank you indulging me on my M, T, W, T, F, S posts. It’s been kind of fun and everyone seems to like looking back at some seldom seen dolls.
Yes, quite a few of the dolls seen in today’s post are no longer in my collection. I did a post one time called “The ones that got away.” I have more to add to that post since then.
      Thanks Carolyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thanks Joy,
It’s pretty obvious I like what I do, isn’t it?
      Glad you enjoyed my post.
      Blessings, Jeanne
