What’s blooming in California right now!

Hi everyone,
I’d like to wish my sister, Cindy, a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY today… as well as my niece, Molly, who has a birthday as well… and it’s also American Girl, Molly’s birthday too! You guessed it, my niece, Molly, received a Molly doll on one of her birthdays when she was younger… of course, both Molly’s having birthdays on the same day… Deb had to get her the doll! :o)

Well, my daughter, Rebecca and her hubby, Karn, made it safely to Illinois, all the way from Pennsylvania! We have already been having fun, visiting, looking at things in my sewing room, sharing stories, celebrating my hubby’s belated birthday with them, playing with Reuben, and of course, eating!

Rebecca already spotted some fabrics I had in a stack and was giving me some ideas on them. YAY!

Tomorrow the fun will start… nothing too drastic, and probably visiting stores just in town, but we might go somewhere later in the week.

She spotted “Lizard Guard” in the bushes when she came in and we had to tell her the story. I showed her his legs and boots and how perfectly they worked for making leather 10″ Boneka doll boots. She was intrigued.

Well, since the kids are here, my sewing for dolls will take a back seat for a few more days, but I’ll be here, but just posting things other than dolly dresses or dolls for sale.

Today’s post is being brought to you from Joy, who lives in California. She sent some very pretty pictures of things blooming in her yard right now, and will tell us what they are.

If you click on any of the pictures they will enlarge.

I think the blue plant may be borage, but not sure. It is a volunteer.

The purple is a native CA iris which blooms every year even though the ivy is there.

There are a couple of lavenders. One a tree and the other a bush.

(I’m not sure what these are… Joy didn’t specify.) The white one looks like a Carolina Lily to me… and I’m not sure of the red bush.

We have lemons year around.

I saw that Linda mentioned CA poppies. Well, we have them, so here is one.

So that’s what is blooming in California right now… well, at least at Joy’s house. Thank you Joy… how very pretty to start the week off with some lovely flowers!

I’ll see what I can come up with for tomorrow! Have a wonderful Monday everyone!

Blessings, Jeanne

A very happy Birthday to Cindy and Molly! I actually have a party set-up for my Molly doll now and should have Cindy and Molly here to celebrate too!!

What a nice group of pictures of various flowers, Joy! I do recognize most of them, although I don’t live in CA, as you know, but we have the some of the same varieties here too. I’m sure Charlotte is loving this, since so many are in the purple family!

That mystery red flower near the bottom looks like a Japanese Quince to me. We had that in our yard growing up, but I think ours had throns on it, so it wasn’t too easy to pick! But I do remember them blooming in spring, and breaking a small branch or two to take to my teacher. Does anyone remeber taking flowers to their teacher in the spring?

That picture of the lemons made me smile, since right now I have a kitchen towel hanging on my stove handle with lemons and lilacs on it! Those are the only lemons you will see here in Missouri, except at the grocery store!

California poppies are such a pretty addition to any garden! I miss mine, which died out a year or so ago. Maybe I need to replace them this year!

Is that a Crepe Myrtle tree, in the picture after the CA Iris, Joy? They are bushes here, but grow like trees in warmer climates. They are not that far along here.

It’s a tree lilac. My mistake earlier of lavender. Getting old here. We don’t have a crepe myrtle, but I wish we did. Here it is rare to not see a crepe myrtle tree. Almost never see bushes. 🙂

How wonderful the kids are there for a visit! I know you’ll have lots of fun, and the days will fly by!! (Good to see that Lizard Guard is still on duty!)

Joy, your pictures are lovely! I’ve always like irises, and yours is so pretty. My 5th grade teacher grew irises, and the last time I visited her (probably 20 or more years ago–she died some time after that) she had almost every color of iris you could imagine!

What is the purple flowered tree in the third picture, Joy? It reminds me of a lilac, but not quite. Maybe a butterfly bush?

You are so fortunate to have fresh lemons all year around! Now that is being Spoiled!!

This afternoon our grandson Eric and his wife and their little boy met me at Ron’s AFH and we all went in to visit him, and surprise him. He hadn’t met our great-grandson, Skyler, yet. We had such a nice visit, and this great-grandma was prepared with a little dish of dry Cheerios that kept Skyler busy while the rest of us visited. We got lots of pictures–Sarah took some with my camera, too, so I’m even in some of them this time!

Getting my L’s mixed up. The pic with the contrails behind it in the sky is a tree lilac, not lavender. Sorry for any confusion. The other bush is also a lilac. Have no idea of the lily type, only that I got it from my mother in law and transplanted it to our yard some years ago. She always called it an Easter Lily. The bright pink bush is a quince. And Linda, I too remember thorns on branches. Growing up, we always had one in our yard. This one was transplanted from my childhood home here in CA. My mother, born in MO, always cut branches in spring and had an arrangement of the blossoms in the house. I also remember she made quince jelly.
Have to get going. Dentist, teeth cleaning this morning.

Dear Joy, thanks for sharing your garden photos. It looks like there will be a ton of work to do to keep the flowers looking nice so that might be a way to keep Other Person distracted while you go on your “dolly missions” (smile).

Thanks for the wonderful pictures, Joy. And thanks to Jeanne for posting them. Several of my neighbors have wonderful flowers but they have them in containers so the moles can’t get to them – or the weeds. They have them sitting all around their yards. So pretty. One of the things I love that you see around here at this time of year is the plethora of wildflowers. They are growing everywhere. Except for Bluebonnets and Indian Paint Brush I don’t know their names. We have some pretty pink wildflowers that are growing around our property and in one spot they actually look like a flower garden.

To Doreen in Arkansas. I made at least one more of those boater hats to match a dress for one of my LDs. I thought I had a picture but I guess I never took one so I’ll do that and see if I made any others. Sometime I worked so hard at one it was almost like making more LOL.

Jeanne, have a great time with your daughter and her hubby. Can’t wait to see pictures.

I’ll bet the wildflowers at your house are lovely. Moles, bad!! We have them too and gophers. Our neighbors little dog will nab moles and dispense them quickly. She does not like gophers though. Picky picky.

Our one son lives next door. He has a cat that finds the moles and a Pit Bull that dispatches them. They are a pretty good team but we would need more like them to really do the job.

Dear Jeanne, Happy Birthday to Cindy!

I know you will have a great time shopping with your daughter. I am sure you will find great bargains, you always do.

    Joy’s flowers are lovely.

In eight more days, we can say, “hello May!” Yeaaa.
