Hi everyone,
We’ve had a few things going on around here, but the thing we had to jump on the quickest, was finding a new tax guy. Remember we dropped our taxes off last Wednesday? Well, unbelievably, he died on Sunday! He did… had a heart attack and passed away at only 60 years old!! :o(
The folder we had with all our information had to be picked up today and when my hubby asked his wife as humbly as he could, was there someone who she could recommend, she did have the name of a man. So, we decided to go with him…and are hoping he’ll get them done in time. What a nightmare for Brian’s wife having to be back in the office to give people back their envelopes instead of grieving for her husband.
Rosemary reduced her goose pattern to 30% and sent me some pictures of Felicity playing with hers… They are really cute Rosemary!
I have a very dear friend coming over tomorrow to see if we can alter a dress for her while she’s here visiting from Florida. She didn’t necessarily want me to do it, but just wanted to know “how” I would do it and then she would use my sewing machine to do it herself.
I HAD to clean up my sewing room before Jan sees it. I have been pulled in so many different directions lately, it was a total disaster!! I still had scraps of the sherpa fabric around from when I made those brown boots and the pink suede/sherpa coat. I found quite a few pair of boots that need to be tossed now that I figured out the pattern I want to use.
I still had scraps of the yellow dress I made for Molly.
There were pieces of that super sheer pink and olive green fabric I made Natasha’s dress from…I have enough fabric left in the blouse to possibly make something else for a smaller sized doll.
I had lots of men’s and boy’s shirts and swim shorts that I have been cutting out for board shorts. There were pattern pieces laying around everywhere and shorts that are started but not finished yet. I got into my denim pieces searching for lightweight ones that would work well for small doll shorts.
I was trying to find a bag of leather soles I had cut out a while back for making those Ruby Red flip flops I did some time ago.
The list could be endless, but as I was sorting and putting like things together, it started looking better in here.
But just like yesterday, I don’t have anything exciting to show you… so I looked on Pinterest to see what was the latest Easter favorite this year.
Look at this fabulous Pineapple Heaven cake…
Look at this Easter Swirl pie!!
How about these Easter Ham and Cheese Pinwheels… these look REALLY good to me!

Well, that will have to be it for today! I need to get to bed!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, what a shock, Jeanne, to lose your tax preparer like that, and so suddenly! His poor wife….I hope that everyone picks their things up in a timely manner so she can finally have a little time to grieve. The current busy-ness will get her thru the next few days, but eventually, she will need to crash….
Rosemary, that scaled-down goose is just darling, and Felicity looks very happy with it!
Good luck on your sewing room cleanup, Jeanne! That can be difficult, when you have bits of so many projects lying around! Of course, I would certainly understand that (you should see MY sewing room! Or, on second thought, maybe not….😂).
Yesterday Rosemary asked when I practice the piano. I generally go up to the church on Wednesdays and Saturdays to practice. I don’t have a piano at home, but I am thinking seriously about perhaps a small keyboard so I can practice at home. I will have to see what is available, though, as I’m really picky about things like having enough octaves to play, how heavy it is, etc. I could have had my folks’ piano, but it’s a medium-sized grand and would take up at least 1/3 of my living room, so that wasn’t really an option for me.
Oh this is good to know. there are a few pianos that have the right touch of the keys and 88 keys. I bet you could find someone that is selling theirs on line. I know Kawaii makes a good small piano, and my estranged daughter has a Yamaha.
I hope you can find one. It is nice to just slip behind and “start riffing” 😂
I have a Baldwin Acrosonic spinet piano. It was my mother-in-laws and her mother’s before her. It is as old as I am since we were both born in 1946. If you could find one of those, they are amazing since they have a metal soundboard and rarely need tuning. But any spinet size piano would fit well since mine is in my dining room along with my dining room set, a table from my in-laws and my tree at Christmas. I just leave enough room to sit on the bench.
Oh how sad for your tax preparer’s wife! The poor woman must be in shock and now has to take care of the work her husband left behind, or at least get it out of the way! I hope the man you were referred to can get yours done in time, Jeanne!
Rosemary, the little goose works perfectly for Felicity, and is in such darling colors!
Those Pinterest recipes look yummy! Who doesn’t love ham with cheese? However, it is not my turn to make dinner this Easter! I’m doing dessert and that’s that! It will be lemon cake with fluffy white icing and marshmallow roses!
Charlotte, I understand how a baby grand piano can take uo a lot of room! My aunt had a Steinway concert grand piano, and that seemed to take uo half of her living room! After she passed away, a hotel in Denver bought it, since they had the room for it.
When I was growing up we had some neighbors who were pianists. They had a baby grand in their living room. Our houses were 1950s tract homes and the living rooms were not all that big. It took up their whole living room so there was no other furniture in there. Sadly the man was an alcoholic so never had much of a career. But he was an amazing pianist and my dad used to go up and listen while he played. One time every time he hit a certain note it didn’t sound right. He looked inside and found a child’s pajama top in the way. Can you imagine putting your laundry on top of a baby grand piano?! But their household was more than a bit helter skelter so I wasn’t a bit surprised.
Oh gosh, Jeanne. Those quick tidies can be a huge challenge. Don’t tell anyone but I have a few things upstairs hidden in the bathtub behind a really cute curtain. Everything else, yep, if I am working on it, I either need to slip the whole project in a ziplock gallon bag, and label it, or return the contents to the bin or file in my fabric wall.
The tragic death of your accountant is shockingly sad. 60 is way too young. So so sad.
Hopefully his wife will have some good friends and helpers to distribute all of that…. taxes are often a kind of private thing, so yes, this is something that the secretary or wife is obligated to do.
Thank you for sharing the tiny goose. It was fun to make. I have made 5 large gooses and I need to try to make a gosling, and one more large goose… or maybe more, hmmmm. I am not rushing. I am also sewing more quilt blocks, they are so fun to make with a collection of matching fabrics I have.
I love these Easter treats, Jeanne. I love Pineapple. Do you pronounce it Pine apple
or Pie nipple? My hubbs grew up in Michigan and pronounces it the latter. I laugh every time he says it. I feel like baking today, but I should go to the old place and continue sorting.
I hope you have a nice day with your friend from Florida, Jeanne, working on the dress. That is a fun project and it is nice to have a sewing visitor.
I hope everyone has a super nice day today. I am going to find a minute or two to read up the latest on the space mission. I read they are spending a day or two just going around Earth and testing stuff on the space ship and then they are using “gravity assist” going around the moon, also called a “swing by” – it is very cool. I am keeping this space crew in my prayers.
We are living in amazing times.
Rosemary, you mini-goose is absolutely adorable and a perfect size for a doll that size. Too cute!
Since I was unable to reply to the comments yesterday, I will tell you about my day yesterday. It was not an April Fool’s joke, but I sure wish it had been. It started right after I took my shower and was about to dry my hair when POOF no power. I knew I paid the bill so what was the deal. Pretty soon Sean came in and told me Jason had pulled the line loose while using the loader. He tends to be careless so I wasn’t surprised, but it made for a useless day and ended up costing us for an electrician.
The people that handle the lines came out a little after noon, but the riser had to be rebuilt to reconnect the power so we had to wait for the electrician and then the time it took him to fix the problem. Then we were told the lineman would not be back for three or four hours – but it turned out to be more like thirty minutes so my power was restored around 5 p.m. or so. But I had been told when the power line came down it also brought down my internet line, so I made a call to AT&T and put in a repair order. But when I checked the TV and my computer I had internet. So what was the line that came down? Something they should have taken out years ago? Anyway we are sitting here cooling our heels waiting for the internet guy who was supposed to be here by now. So he can remove the line that is laying in my yard. No I’m not a happy camper, mostly because twice Jason was supposed to apprise me on what was going on but left for home without even telling me the lineman was on his way.
I’m so sorry about your tax man. And his poor wife having to be in the office and breaking the terrible news to everyone. So glad you have another option. I wouldn’t know where to start if I had to find another tax guy since there are not many in my area. But mine is in his thirties I believe and seems to be in good health. But ya nevah know.
We have church tonight, Maundy Thursday, so I will not be doing too much today. Going to church in the evening makes a long day for me. Jason and Steph ride in with us to save on gas since they live about 45 minutes west of us so have that additional drive. They bring clothes and change here and then we eat on the way. We are supposed to have rain all day Easter Sunday. Bummer. But Sean’s church does their church picnic and Easter egg hunt on Palm Sunday so the weather won’t be a problem other than traveling back and forth. We do ours on Easter Sunday but if the weather is bad they move it into the parish hall. I’d just rather not have rain on Easter.
Still waiting on the internet guy.
Nothing like a power outage to ruin a day. So sorry it happened. We had several cable company lines that ran from our house to the pole. Here, each company puts in their own line but won’t remove/touch the old one. I think they hope that someone down the line will decide they want to use their company again. So, when we had high speed internet installed, the answer was to simply cut the old coax cable and wind it up at the bottom of the pole across the street. Eventually, the cable company came and removed it. So strange. Hope your fix is easier.
You did have a crummy day, Barbara.
conserve energy today and try to recover. (((hugs)))
What a shock about your tax guy. Feel so sorry for his family and clients. But, very glad that there was a recommendation for someone else. What a nightmare.
Rosemary’s doll sized goose is perfect. How fun for the dolls to have one of her creations.
Good for Jeanne, on the cleanup. Creativity is always messy. At least as I see it. 🙂 I’m sure that she will end up doing the alterations for her friend’s dress too. I don’t think anyone can fix something like Jeanne.
Here, we went to Trader Joe’s, and then after a walk, decided to check out Kohl’s. I looked for those jeans I like in light blue, but the fit was crazy. And has anyone looked at jeans lately?? Because almost all were that very wide legged style. At least a foot wide and some even more. I’ve seen the style around for some time, but they don’t appear to be widely popular except in the store. I prefer standard width or even a slight boot cut, but the wide ones remind me of culottes gone long. I’ve seen grand and daughter wear them, but they would look silly on me and would require some new footwear as well. Shoes are another problem for me. So hard to find something that looks okay and fits my foot. So, we headed home. I looked at JcPenney’s online as we still have one here, and saw some possibilities so we may try there later today. We’ll see. And there is always Macy’s, but I don’t usually have much luck there either. If I can’t find something that I like, it will have to be standard black jeans. Not too springy though. 🙂
Oh my gosh, the jeans. ugh. I am kind of glad I continued to hoard my old jeans and brought several pair here. I have a few 100% cotton from the 90’s I am not sure how they fit my body now though….. still, I miss the old levi’s a lot. Hubbs has some wranglers that fit him well.
Wide legs would look hideous on my, I am a stick person. Sometimes…. who is wearing this stuff and thinking it looks good???
I guess I am grateful I have old clothes.
Who carries the old style stuff? I had a catalog of Lands End a few months ago and it looked like they might have some pants in the sale section, also some traditional “normal” pants.
I have several of the Lands End corduroy pants that fit right at the hips. I have to really take them in at the “waist” and wear them as high as I can get them or they fall down. What a hideous activity to be constantly pulling up your pants. Good luck Joy on finding some suitable pants.
That’s interesting about your reserve jeans. I’m wearing an old pair now of the cotton ones. Not the stretchy kind they make today. I did try on a pair of Levis yesterday, but they were the stretchy stuff and hung so strangely. I passed. I suppose that I should try the thrift stores once again. I used to find all kinds of great things there. And Kohl’s carries Lands End online. But, I have to be able to try something on, and I hate having to bring back something to return it. TKS
What about a pretty spring dress? I found the most darling dress at, get ready for this,……..Cracker Barrel! It was on sale too, and didn’t break the bank.
Oh, I’m sure that the dress is lovely. In fact, I’d love to see a pic. Maybe send it to Jeanne? Grand and daughter wear them, you know, the low flowy kind for spring/summer. But, if it’s not jeans or shorts, it’s not for me. I haven’t worn a dress in many years but there may still be a black pleated short skirt in the back of the closet somewhere. That is the closest I’ll ever get to a dress. I only wear things in which I am comfortable now. I let the dollies wear all of the dresses. 🙂
Dear Jeanne, I will add the family of your tax person to my prayer list. Oh, my goodness how awful. Blessings to him as he makes his transition.
So very sad about your tax man. His poor wife. I hope the secretary can help her.
The goose is absolutely darling, Rosemary. My Felicity is waving to yours. She thinks a whole flock is in order.
The swirl pie looks amazing. I have a stash of natural food gels I use.
I’ll weigh in on the jeans comment. I prefer the standard width or even better the tapered pegged leg I wore in the 1980’s along with the dropped yoke pleated waist. I actually have a few pairs of new dead stock ones I bought a few years ago. I never outgrew loving that style. 🙂
That is great that you have some jeans in reserve. Good for you. 🙂
What a terrible thing to have happened to your accountant, It must be very hard for his wife but I know from experience that you do what you have to do. My Mum’s best friend was on holiday (this was before mobile phones) and I had no idea how to contact her. (They were in a campground). I knew she read the paper and would see Mum’s obituary and I didn’t want that to happen. In the end, Dad remembered that her daughter worked at a local bank. I didn’t know her married name but fortunately they knew who I meant and she was able to contact the campground and leave a message for Denise to ring home. Afterwards, Denise said to me “I don’t know how you did that, I wouldn’t have been able to”. Which felt like “I am obviously more sensitive than you”. She didn’t mean it that way, I am sure but we need to be careful what we say to people sometimes. When Sam had her cancer diagnosis and was going through treatment people often used to say to her “you are so brave”. She said “no I’m not I just have no choice”.
Many years ago we had a Minister who was quite creative and always trying to think of new things to make us think. One Maunday Thursday we met at the church hall, in the dark, and outside he lit a brazier. I don’t remember what it was all about now, it is so long ago but I remember we had communion around the fire. Two lots of people came around the back because they saw the fire and were checking it wasn’t the church. In the end the fire dept came out because someone had rung 111 to say there was a fire at the church. He didn’t do that again though it was cool. At least people were watchful anyway.
Have a blessed Easter everyone. “It’s Friday, but Sunday is coming”
Nice memory Anne, About the Maundy Thursday gathering.
Also your thoughts on family situations. We just deal with what we can. It is difficult to not be in control all the time. We just do the best we can which is never just perfect.
Blessed Easter to you and yours too
