Tiny little 8″ Ten Ping is finally ready for SCHOOL!

I think Ten Ping just might need a note for the principal saying why she is SO LATE getting to school. My hubby’s surgery and then spraining my hand made Ten Ping getting to school almost impossible! I wasn’t sure she was ever going to get to wear this… but I think it’s finally finished. I have a little desk that’s just about her size, (actually I have 2 little desks) and I was hoping to take a few pictures of her at it, if possible. I don’t have a chair for it, but I think I could come up with something.

I finished the blouse for her today, hemming it and getting the snaps sewn on the back.

Now it’s looking more like a completed outfit!

Then I also found time this evening to get some “school supplies” made to go in her book bag. There are 2 pencils, (which perfectly match her skirt) a ruler, and a notebook so she can practice her letters.

Oops… I forgot to include her jacket…

She wanted to do a “trial run” dressing up in it, just to make “sure” she had everything…

I wonder if I’ll cry when she gets on the bus?

A few of you commented about how pretty the pleats in her skirt were when she was sitting down and they were all fanned out…

The red plaid fabric was from a man’s shirt I found at the Goodwill…I cut it up and used my “Perfect Pleater” by Clotilde to make the pleats…

Here is a previous tutorial post I wrote back in 2015 about using the Perfect Pleater…

Perfect Pleater Tutorial

See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. TenPing’s outfit is just darling, and I love her accessories! She is ready for school, for sure, and I’m sure is excited to meet her new teacher and all the other girls and boys in her class.

To answer a couple of queries in yesterday’s replies, yes, I know it’s a sinus infection. I have seasonal allergies, too, but I went to the doctor, and it’s definitely an infection. Thanks all for your concern.

Joy, I can’t wait for the next episode of “Dolly Mission: Impossible”!!

Dear Charlotte, I am glad that you like them. I just found out about them recently. I am going to have to make a road trip to Gettysburg to tour the historic house and maybe purchase the dolls too!

  2. Linda in St. Louis

Jeanne, you certainly hit the jackpot with this darling set! I think it would be a good idea to make something like this for the bigger dolls too, both American Girl and RRFF dolls!

So that’s how you did those pleats! I just knew there was a trick to it! Now I remember you telling us about the Perfect Pleater previously. It certainly does the job!

I had to laugh when you mentioned you might cry when she gets on the school bus, because I did just that many moons ago when Brian, my youngest started kindergarten! I thought my life was over, so funny!

Ten Ping is certainly going to be ready for school with all her school supplies and that darling outfit! I think she is the one who will be crying when you have to take it off!

Such a sweet outfit for the 8″ group. Everything goes together so well.
We’ve been awfully busy this week and actually exhausted. Drove the truck three plus hours up to the Sierra to haul stuff back from our old cabin, including a refrigerator which had to be pulled/pushed up a steep dirt path. It wasn’t pretty for the two old people here. Then, repeat the drive with a fully loaded truck. We looked like a couple of brush okies driving along. Refrigerator, boxes, piled chairs etc. on the truck. We had an extra hour added in on the way home due to bridge construction and heavy traffic. Go figure. Once home, we left the fully loaded truck in the driveway until yesterday to unload. Getting that refrigerator out was just as hard as getting it into the truck. But, we did it. Sore muscles and bruises as well, but we’ll survive.
As to the expected delivery yesterday, while in and out and removing things from the truck, I discovered that the delivery would be in the afternoon. You know, that open window of four hours. Checked again much later and now the delivery time was before 8:00PM. Yikes. So, we had dinner, and I basically forgot about it. Then, I thought I heard something and everything would have been perfect to snatch that package from the porch, but there was a loud “knock” on the door that even other person could hear. Out the door he went and brought in that shiny white FedEx plastic bag. He even felt it and stated that there were “two boxes” inside. I played dumb and said, “I wasn’t expecting anything.” Somehow, in a tired stupor, he plunked the package down on a chair and went back into the kitchen. As soon as he turned around, I grabbed the bag and whisked it away into the doll room. There it remains until a more appropriate time to open. Can’t wait to see the Asian Siblies. 🙂 And, the package arrival has not been mentioned again. Maybe, he forgot about it. 🙂

I received one of the beautiful Siblies but not the one in the lavender dress. I checked my orders from RRFF and discovered I hadn’t completed the order for the second one! Fortunately she was still available. Close call! The Chinese government stopped women from creating the extremely detailed embroidery pieces many years ago due to early blindness, but I think sewing such detailed doll costumes will perpetuate the same problem. I have a special appreciation for these beautiful costumes but am concerned.

I couldn’t decide as I liked both outfits. And I so hope the beautiful intricate designs aren’t contributing to the eyesight damage of anyone. Perhaps, the designs are now on an embroidery program and done by machine? Whoever makes the outfits for RR certainly does an outstanding job..

Dear Joy, well, another mission accomplished with one minor snag. You did your best. There should be a no knocking rule (laugh).

When does FedEx ever knock anyway? Where I live there are packages on front door steps. In apartment hallways, you could trip over them as the FedEx guy (or lady) sometimes just dumps them at the front door without even taking the boxes to the floor on which they belong.

      1. Joy in northern CA

FedEx here puts down the package and then takes a photo of it on the porch. That way, they can prove that it was delivered. Sorry to hear that they can’t be bothered to take the boxes to the right floor. Hopefully, you have honest neighbors. 🙂

        1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Joy, I do have honest neighbors. Well, I haven’t heard anyone complaining so I guess the packages make it to whom they belong. I don’t know if FedEx does the photo thing here. I will have to ask.

I have all of my packages delivered to a post office box so I don’t usually have a problem.

What a great outfit and so complete! My favorite things, a plaid skirt and a blazer. It’s hard to believe you create things and sew for such a tiny doll. Congratulations on a job well done. ⭐️

I just know there is going to be a huge bidding war for this outfit. Even people who sew are probably not fond of sewing for the smaller dolls so would love to snatch up a ready-made adorable outfit like this.

I have a Perfect Pleater and had forgotten I had it till the tutorial. I’ve used it several times since. Right now I have two sweaters for my LDs awaiting my making the pleated skirts to go with them. Figure I have a little time until sweater weather here.

Speaking of not liking to sew for the smaller dolls, I did make a dress for my Mini Sara and it turned out really cute. I am trying to finish up a couple other back-to-school outfits and then I’ll take pictures and share them if possible.

Seems like our lack of rain is over for at least a couple days. It rained off and on yesterday. Today it was bright and sunny when i woke up but the clouds rolled in again and it’s raining quite heavily right now. The rain is coming from the west and that’s usually the way it comes in the fall followed by the blue northers in winter. I guess we kinda do have seasons here in Texas. But sadly no beautiful fall colors here.

Dear Jeanne, I would say, if asked, that Ten Ping is not late in arriving at her elementary school. She has been home schooled for the beginning of the school year (smile).

I think it is amazing the you and the other sewers could look at a man’s shirt and see a dress for a little doll. Maybe it’s “trompe l’oeil” or maybe it’s magic.
