Glasses and Blouses and Sandals and Purses for Ruby Red Fashion Friend, Violette!

Well, since my title pretty much gives it away, and all of my pictures show them except one, let’s start with the glasses…

I remembered I had some “glasses” charms from a few years ago. I wondered if they would fit the faces of the Ruby Red Fashion Friends…
The glasses “frames” looked nice sitting across her nose, but how to make them stay on her face. I thought and thought and came up with this…

I tied a piece of elastic cord through the holes on the sides of the frames… then I pulled it back around her head and tied it in a knot. It helped to have a rubber band around her head, which also keeps her wig in place. So you put the glasses on first with the wig off, and them put the wig on after the glasses are in place.

Okay, you all are going to be my guinea pigs on this one… The glasses look adorable on Violette, BUT… they are metal and on elastic and you have to be VERY careful not to let them spring into her face when you are putting them on your doll. It seemed like a good idea, but now I feel a little nervous about selling them with the set and then someone getting them and not being careful at putting them on their doll and getting a mark on their dolls face. I could show them in my pictures when I list her outfit, but just mention the glasses are NOT included… but they look so cute… Please let me know what you think… In the meantime, let’s see them, okay?

Next let’s talk about that blouse… or crop top… I got to thinking about the top I showed you yesterday and realized, even if I did take out the elastic, it was still going to be too full… so guess what I did… I cut out a whole new top and made it… I reduced the fullness in the neck by around 1 1/2 inches. It’s better and is much less bunchy. I made the sleeves 1/4″ longer too.

About those sandals… adding that star button to hold the elastic up on the back of her heel worked. They are much better now…

I wanted something fun to go with her shorts and crop top set, so I made another hairband with a bow, with a magnetic clasp at the ends…
and I thought about making a fabric bag for carrying her school books in… kind of boho style bag… I cut out some fabric pieces just to lay against her to show you what I was thinking… any favorites?

Well, that was my day… tops, and glasses and hairbands and “fake” purses… :o)

I will see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

OH, my, those glasses are just so stinkin’ cute!! But, yes, I’d be worried about the metal scratching the vinyl, too, so maybe use them as a prop yourself but be sure to say they are “not included” in the outfit. (You could say that Violette loves to read but can’t do so without her glasses, so they need to stay with your doll!)

The hair bow is really cute, and I like the bright blue for the bag the best. The other two fabrics pick up the colors in the bow’s print nicely, but seem kind of blah in comparison (although the multi-dots IS quite cute and fun, so that would be my second choice).

Hope you’ll be hearing soon about George’s surgery being rescheduled; it’s hard to wait!!

I’ve had a crazy week and hopefully I’ve gotten the problem resolved but I haven’t commented much lately. Actually two days I started and got sidetracked and never got back to it. But I had to let you know that I am praying for you and Ron. I know this is very difficult for you both and you seem to be taking things calmly and I’m sure Ron appreciates that. I know it is your faith that keeps you strong and there is no substitute for that.

I have been trying to figure out what I pick out for the purse, Jeanne, since I had to think about it, but I’m afraid it is just the opposite of what Charlotte said! So now you are back to square one! I like that green polka dot bag best! I don’t know, it just looks better to me, and keeps things not so “matchy matchy”. Well, others will be giving their opinion , so that will help. But the bright blue is my second favorite. The first fabric is too muddy looking for me, and just disappears.

Those glasses do look cute, and if this is a back to school set, maybe that would be a cute addition, but I’m not so sure about the elastic showing on the sides. I’m kind of on the fence about them, so can’t really positively say what I think.

Let’s hope you hear soon from the doctor as to when the surgery is scheduled. Waiting is no fun!

  3. What an adorable outfit. I love the glasses, they’re a perfect match with her hair color! For the purse, since you mentioned boho, and I associate batik with boho, I think the first green and blue fabric would be my choice.
I absolutely love the fringy denim sandals too!

Love the pattern redo for Violette’s top. It fits so much nicer. 🙂
And the glasses are the perfect size for the RRFF kids. However, I’m not a fan of the elastic nor of removing a perfectly placed wig to wear them. Maybe George, has some wire that might work instead?
Very happy that Dorothy 2 is on her way from HK this morning. A couple of the new Design your own dolls, 11″, are also in the loop. 🙂 You can find them on the RubyredToys site. There are quite a few designs, but they are not articulated like the others.
How’s everyone doing with the heat and or rain? We now have smoke coming down from the big Oregon fire. It’s a Spare the Air Day. Don’t drive unless necessary. No bbq. etc.
Hope there is word today about the rescheduling for George. How are the chickens doing? What’s the usual egg count? Curious. 🙂

I forgot about the bag. I think the green dots would be fun, but with the hair tie fabric as the lining. Maybe reversible? Love things that can be worn more than one way. 🙂

    Dear Jeanne, prayers continue.

As for the glasses…hmmm. I don’t like to mess around with wigs. I always just leave wigs on the dolls the way they are. I probably would not take the wig off to put on glasses so I would never use them.

I think that the outfit is darling.

  6. The glasses are cute and I actually thought I saw someone on the fan club have glasses on their doll and mention where they could be purchased. I’m not a fan of the elastic and tbh, I don’t have my dolls wear glasses. They either have contacts as I do or perfect 20/20 vision. 🙂
Taking a wig off first might be bothersome and some of the earlier LE Rubies have attached wigs. I would also be concerned about scratches just like I am about clothing stains.
I’m going to go completely against the grain and say I like a bag to be made in the same fabric as her hairband. Second choice is the bright blue.
We had a horrible T-storm last night. Woke up to a fairly messed up garden. Managed to re-stake the tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant and now they don’t look as bad as we first feared. Lots of twigs and leaf bits to clean up though over the weekend.

    1. Joy in northern CA

So sorry to hear about the storm. Hopefully, everything will survive But, the mess is not a fun clean up either. Take care.

      1. Laura in Ohio

Thanks, Joy. It’s been a wild spring/ summer so far with a late frost to put us behind in planting, and then heat, a storm with hail, and now another bad storm. Count on the tomatoes and peppers as the store ones are so expensive and don’t taste nearly as good. No, cleaning up storm mess is no fun at all! Discovered a few branches out of the backyard maple down as well.

  7. I like the blouse MUCH better, it needed the sleeves a little longer and now the neckline links looser and comfortable. I vote for the green polka dots for the bag, the headband has a touch of green that would pull it all together especially with a simple bead/charm dangly, maybe where the strap becomes part of the bag or as a drawstring closure? Or flap flipper closure? Very boho to me. But I do love bling. And the glasses look absolutely adorable. Instead of elastic I’d go with wire. That way you can stick the earpiece thru hair just like real people do. A simple “attachment loop” could even make them foldable. I’ve learned that end loops on earpieces get caught in the hair. Mine and dolls,LOL.

Hopefully I can actually get this comment posted today. Had a crazy week and kept starting to comment and then got sidetracked and never got back to it. I think I’m kind of a matchy-matchy person so I would like the bag to match the hairbow, but all the fabrics could be fun. Oh and I cannot forget to comment on those absolutely adorable fringed sandals. Love, love, love ’em. And the “star button save” was brilliant.

Jeanne, hopefully you and George will get the go-ahead for his surgery soon. This happened with David’s heart surgery. He got put off because someone needed emergency surgery. Hard to believe it’s been two and a half years now. Seems like yesterday.

I love the sweet little crop top. The top seems more delicate now. Aren’t you about running out of that fabric? You’ve used it often. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s wonderful.

My machine is still in the hospital. I got a call the other day that the needle threader was cracked and it would take a week to ten days to get a new one in. I could pick up the machine if I wanted to but the reason I took it in was because I planned on doing a lot of embroidery. That would require a lot of use of the needle threader and I really didn’t want to risk it breaking while I was in the middle of a project so I told them to keep it until the part came in. I’m sure I can come up with something to do in the meantime. Maybe tidy up my sewing room. I’ve made several purchases since I cleaned it before and all that is on my worktable and wherever else I could find to put it. I just ordered some wonderful swimsuit fabric from Pixie Faire. I had a few things that might work but these i know will be perfect for doll swimsuits.

Tomorrow is grandson Skyy’s 13th birthday party. His actual birthday is 7/26 but his party is tomorrow. Cannot believe he’s reached that milestone already. The time has just rushed past. He has grown into a sweet, loving young man and we’re so proud of him.

      Hi Barbara
My granddaughter in Melbourne turns 13 on July 26th as well!

    2. Joy in northern CA

How fun. Our oldest grandson turns 13 in November. I’ll bet they would have a great time together and Anne’s GD as well. 🙂

    Hi Jeanne
I’m so sorry George’s surgery was postponed. I understand about waiting! Things seem to be progressing well here. Still a little pain now and again but it is pain from the surgery there isn’t that horrible grinding bone on on bone pain that I used to have. I’m walking quite well but the weather has been pretty horrible lately so Louis hasn’t been out much but never mind spring is coming! Can’t wait.

I love the outfit, the top is so much nicer now, it was worth redoing, I didn’t like it before, I thought it looked too ‘heavy’. The glasses look cute but I’m with Dorothy, I wouldn’t take a wig off a doll unless there was a real problem with it. Love the sandals, the denim was a great idea! The star is great it looks as though it is just a decoration not a ‘save’. My choice for the bag would be the green polka dot. Good luck with making a decision lol!

As I said, the weather here hasn’t been the best but considering it is still winter it is very mild. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the north and east of the North Island. It has rained almost nonstop since January and the ground is completely sodden. They still haven’t recovered from the major floods and land slips during Cyclone Gabrielle and they are getting heavy rain again. Some people have been flooded 3 times. The weather’s gone mad.

      Hi Anne,
So nice to hear from you. So glad you are feeling much better. The weather seems to be crazy everywhere.

I posted this morning from my phone while at the Garage Sale….but it isn’t listed….. ?
I looked on Google and searched DOLL GLASSES and there were quite a few..one on Amazon for AG.. but maybe would take too long from other places? I wonder if Mary Englebreit glasses might work but probably pricey.
I too love the lime green polka dot for the purse☺️

Georgina

(Hello, from France. Maybe a stitch along the fold of the fabric would end up nicer and flatter. Everything you do is very pretty and my dolls are a little jealous. But I really like the idea of glasses. Have a nice day. Georgina)
