You asked for flip flops for Violette!

Several of you hinted that a pair of flip flops might be nice for Violette… so I listened and followed your advice…

It had been a while since I made some leather flip flops so the search began of trying to find the pattern I used. (I must have 75 shoe cut outs and didn’t remember which one I used…) Finally, I figured it out and cut them out… next I decided on a red and white polka dot ribbon. This is how they turned out…

They look pretty cute with the jeans too…

I made a fun little hair tie and used a magnetic clasp on the ends so it’s easy to put on… just get the ends close to each other and they stick together…

Now, how about a few pictures of what it looks like all together…

I meant to show you how the skort closed with the snaps… it’s like this…

I will see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

The red flip-flops and the red hair bow are just perfect with this outfit! The flip-flops look equally good with jeans and skort. This is one cute ensemble!!

Kathie, I have heard of grandmas being asked to be the flower girls at a wedding–but I hadn’t heard of calling them “flower grandmas”. So cute!! Does your granddaughter have a color theme to her wedding? Hope you and the other grandma can figure out what to wear. (There was recently a picture on FB of two grandma/flower girls, and they were dressed identically, but I guess it’s whatever the bride wants!)

Lauren, it’s good to see you back on the sofa. We missed you!

Those flip flops and that darling hair tie are just the perfect touch for the outfit, Jeanne! This will be a cute casual outfit for some lucky doll!

Kathie, I too, have heard of grandmas being “flower girls”, and you are so lucky to be able to do that! Your granddaughter must think the world of you! Maybe in the future, we could see a picture? 🙂

Love the outfit and added thongs. So perfect for summer.
Back to work on trying to install the supposedly simple air conditioner today. Here’s what happened yesterday:

Nothing is easy to install here. There are always catches. Started out this morning without taking a walk and right to the install. Well, sort of. I started moving stuff out of the way and dusting everything that had not been dusted in awhile. Then, the blinds that I could finally get to. We had discussed the only close plug which was behind the 10ft armoire. I had a power strip with a flat plug that I’d used for things occasionally, but other person tried the power strip by using the switch and got it stuck. Not good. I finally crawled in there and found the reset button which did not work. I suspect that what other person did contributed to it’s demise. So, other person looked for a similar power strip online at Home Depot. I asked for the power wattage of the air conditioner, and he didn’t know. Checked box and instructions. Nothing. What is the cord length of the unit? Did not state anywhere. We had opened the top of the box just to get to the booklet, and the cord was kind of snaked around through Styrofoam. No way would that cord make it to the plug. So, definitely needed a power strip and a heavy duty one. Meantime, other person had gone to Home Depot to pick up some new galvanized pieces to extend the outdoor faucet which was in the way of the unit. But, figuring out the electrical was more important. I found a number in the enclosed booklet for help. Other person called. What is the model number? Duh. Is it on the box? Nope. How about the barcode? Nope. And so forth until we ran out of numbers. Person on the phone said that it was on the bottom of the unit. The very heavy unit was still in the box totally entrapped in Styrofoam. We didn’t want to take it out until we were sure it was going to work with the unknown cord length. Other person asked the person if we could use an extension cord? Nope. Okay, that seemed to seal the deal. Returning it. This seemed odd to me, as I know other people have them in windows where there is not a close outlet. Then, it dawned on me to look for a heavy duty air air conditioning extension cord. Yep, Home Depot had them. Checked if the BTU rating would work for the air conditioner. Yep, looked like it would. Off we went to Home Depot again. Me to pick up more Swiffer refills to dust behind the armoire and something to anchor the armoire more securely to the wall. As we were trying to find the outlet that was completely hidden behind that armoire, I noticed that my wiring job of years ago that had attached it to the wall had apparently been stretched away from the wall during our last earthquake. It was still attached, but not as I would like it. Couldn’t find anything that would work for an antique at HD, so will probably will just try to reattach it more securely. Back to the Home Depot power cord aisle. We were standing there looking at the cord we had seen online talking and trying to figure out if it would be heavy enough for the air conditioner. A very nice guy took pity on two old people and said that he was an electrician. Oh, great. So, we explained what we were trying to do and he explained a lot to us. He said that now, in new homes, they put outlets about two feet apart so this wouldn’t happen. Don’t think he works on houses built in 1949. Anyway, he said that the heavy duty cord would be sufficient for the unit we have. The air conditioning company always says no extension cord as they don’t want to be libel. Using the correct heavy duty cord though should be fine. Such a nice guy and of course, not a HD employee in sight. 🙂 Bought the stuff and drove home. Other person wanted to try and move the armoire. Nope. Not today. It was 4:00, I needed to water, and we had spent all day on this. So, tomorrow, we’ll start in again. I need to very carefully open the armoire which I’ve been dreading for months because I’m not sure what I will find inside. Will my great grandmother’s antique castor set be in one piece? How about my camera collection? My old stereo and my grandfather’s 30’s radio? And in the bottom, the record collection. So hope the shelves didn’t pull out in the earthquake.

Hopefully today, I’ll get up the nerve to open one of the doors and see if there is any damage. I guess it’s about time. Not looking forward to that.
Hope your day was much better than around here yesterday.

    1. Sounds like a rough time around your place, Joy. Hopefully everything will be just fine. I absolutely love those old castor sets. I’ve seen some really stunning ones over the years.

I can certainly relate to your outlet problem. Our house was built in 1945 when there was not a lot of electrical appliances of any kind. We ran into so many problems with small kitchen appliances until we totally remodeled the kitchen and David put in outlets everywhere, including the angled section of my one countertop. Only problem there is he put in a brown receptacle that, because of its location, we need a flashlight to plug anything in. But I told him that’s fine. I’d rather do that than have a different color that would stick out all the time. With so few outlets in the beginning you could not plug more than one appliance in at a time. If you plugged the toaster and electric skillet in to use at the same time, you thru the circuit breaker. My sewing room is terrible. I have to use a power strip from one of the few outlets to plug in my sewing machine and serger. If I walk around and bump the cord from the power strip I shut off my machine. In the case of my sewing machine that means redoing all the parameters I had put in. No plans for major renovations in there so I’m stuck with it as it is. Fortunately my iron plugs in on the other side of the room. I think there may be three outlets in there but one is covered up by my floor to ceiling cabinets. Hope you finally get all your problems figured out and that no damage has occurred to the precious items in your armoire.

Thanks Sisters for all your kind comments about being a Flower Grandma. Of course this occasion calls for a dress. Last time I had one on was before I retired…which was 2009😳 I did wear one to a shower a few weeks ago… it was old but luckily still in style and I took it in from a XL to a Med. My bff and I went shopping today to a favorite store and tried on like 8 dresses…many would do but one we both liked was the same one.🤗 That and out to lunch made a very nice day!
Barbara…so sorry your day was ruined…. What a patience draining day.
You guys work so hard too
Our house is a 1950 mid century too and outlets were not plentiful and where we have kinda remodeled we did ad more…but not near enough. This Sunday our cable went out….omg…we depend on that for so much…yikes! No internet, couldn’t read my book…it was an e book🤔.. no phone, no cell. Took 2 days+ luckily it doesn’t happen often.

Oops..didn’t even tell Jeanne how darling the flip flops are…and the hairbow! The whole thing is going to be perfect

I was lucky that my dad helped rewire a lot of the house, so the plugs work. Only one that blows occasionally. And our kitchen is so small, that we don’t have many worries there either. If I had your sewing machine, it would probably blow the breakers here as well. Sounds like we both need some upgrades. 🙂

After reading Joy’s comments about her troubles, I thought I was telling Joy that my life was dull compared to hers, but
Barbara’s name mysteriously got there instead of Joy’s!

  5. How fun to be a flower grandma, Kathie. What a special thing!
So glad to have you back on the sofa with us, Lauren. So very sorry for the loss of your dear mother. Prayers that you find comfort in memories and a happy reunion someday. I hope you’ll share your dolls dressed up in their red/white/blue.
Violette’s flip flops are very cute and pair well with both the skort and jeans.
Super smoky her this morning so it was just a quick trip out to feed and water kitties and wildlife and back in. Doesn’t look like any yard work possible for the rest of the week as the air quality isn’t safe.

I love this outfit. The cute flip flops and hairbow add a great touch. When I saw the bow I was wondering how it would look with Violette having so much hair. It’s really cute. My Hearts for Hearts doll Rahel has a lot of hair and I usually don’t try any hair adornments with her because they get lost. Instead of something in her hair for Easter this year we decided she should wear one of the pretty necklaces from the shop of Jeanne Marie. She thought that was a great idea.

So glad to see Lauren back on the sofa. We missed her. Keeping her in my prayers. Such a great loss requires lots of support.

I never heard of grandma flower girls but I think it’s a lovely idea. So many of us have grandmothers that are or were special in our lives. Growing up in a crazy household I attribute my sanity to my wonderful maternal grandmother. I did not see her often in my early years because she lived in DE and I lived in PA. But I did spend two weeks with her each summer. Before my senior year in high school we moved to DE and I just lived a block over from her. I had the chance to visit often and was glad for the opportunity. I would have loved for her to be the grandma flower girl at my wedding.
