TWO more American Girl dolls… a blonde and a strawberry blonde

HI everyone,
CONGRATULATIONS to Karen on the news of a BOY for her next BABY. I know her girls must be beside themselves wondering what it will be like to have a new baby brother! Congratulations to Karen and your whole family! I secretly bet your hubby is the most excited of all…
Ahhh… a Son!!! :o)

My day didn’t go exactly as I had hoped, but I did get my 2 dark brown headed dolls listed on Ebay… You can see them by clicking the pictures of them on the right side bar or you can click HERE and HERE to see them on Ebay. (UPDATE: Well, my #41, (Eden’s look-a-like), sold before I even got my post written… The buyer used the BIN so she’s no longer available.

I also took some pictures of the 2 new dolls I “will” be listing soon. But first they need a pretty big makeover. I saved them for last. I almost thought maybe I’d just sell them “as is” but I just can’t seem to make myself do that.

One of the dolls is a Julie doll… she has the long straight blonde hair and brown eyes and the other doll is a Truly Me with strawberry blonde hair with freckles.

The Julie doll has had some blue dye? marker? who knows? added to the top of her hair… right in the middle of her part. I didn’t have time to do anything to her yet, but that will be what I try to get out… her hair is like straw too… but I think I can make it soft and silky…

She seems to have pink coloring around her eyes and in her ears…

I haven’t even wiped her face down yet, to see what is permanent and what might be surface marks. I do see a shine mark through her eyebrow.

She does have some marks on her arms and legs… and some light marks on her fingernails…

On the strawberry blonde headed doll, she has pretty green eyes, but the left one sticks…and then opens slowly if you wait on it. It might just be because her face and eyelids are dirty.

One of her eyebrows is slightly wiped away and some of her freckles have been wiped away too. I’m thinking of just removing them all… I can’t replace the freckles the way they were from the factory, so I think giving her a clean slate to her face and new blush might be the best option.

Her hair may have been cut but I’m not sure because it’s so gummy feeling, I won’t know till I see it when it’s shampooed and clean.

There is a little red tuft of hair right in the middle of her part… hmmm…

I believe she had some jeans on for a long time as the inside of her legs are pretty stained… again, I haven’t tried getting anything off yet, but I will.

She has HOPE written on her wrist and a shine mark on her arm… I’m hoping that will come off. I think she can be made cuter than she is… and I may put these two dolls together… it depends on how well they each clean up…

Do you think this cute face is salvageable? I hope so!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Congrats on one of the dolls selling so quickly!! Winner, for sure!!

These new dolls have potential, I think. I am thinking you could probably redraw the freckles–if they come off with cleaning–or else eliminate them completely. I happen to like freckles so I was trying to think of how you could preserve them. You might end up having to just replace the missing ones (with an eyebrow pencil if needed) and then sealed.

Two more “clients” for the Jeanne Marie Salon! I’m sure both dolls will look like they spent a weekend at a famous spa! While I do love freckles on dolls, I don’t have any dolls with them! Go figure! I think you would do a wonderful job putting them back on.

Oh my goodness, Karen! How exciting for your family to be getting a boy! As the oldest of four girls, I always wondered what it would be like to have a brother, but never got to experience that. Prayers that you have an uneventful and easy pregnancy!

I like dolls with freckles, too, Linda! Thank you very much for your prayers! At least the first half of the pregnancy went by pretty easily. I have two brothers. I think one was more of a friend than the other growing up.

  3. These two girls will be a challenge but I think you can accomplish it.
Interesting with the blue marker and pity about the hair
Are their good online sources for reviving AG doll hair? Mine are napping in a clear plastic box upstairs wrapped in white tissue paper.
It might be fun to pull one out and do something with the hair.
My old hair cutter friend gave me a jar of …. something I believe it had silicone in it. I never tried it.
I should do some research. It would be a great project.
I am one of those that never stop loving dolls.
    Congratulations to Karen!!

Thank you very much, Jeanne! Yesterday the girls started playing that their little animals were going to have little baby boys, and they made a baby boy poster, so they do seem excited about it. I think because it is something different. My husband has been seeing another child as more responsibility and likes researching which bigger van to get. I think I could use advice on how to raise a boy. It seems very daunting.

I couldn’t resist chiming in about raising a boy. All I can say is you’ll love it! I had both and didn’t see much difference in handling them, mostly because I enjoyed them both and considered their personalities more than their gender when relating to them. I was one of four girls so I was a little worried how it would be raising a boy but I found it quite fun. I totally enjoyed raising both my children but as adults my son is the one who watches out for us.

Looks like an awful lot of work with these two dolls. I suppose someone would want one not in an original state, but there are so many out there it’s hard to tell. Maybe just a clean up and sell as they are is my thought. Selling with outfits is also a great idea.
My order from the RR Nashville, store should be arriving tomorrow. Such a great deal there recently on outfits, shoes, and dolls. And no, I didn’t buy another doll. 🙂

You have your work cut out for you if you intend to bring these poor dollies back to life. But then you are a master at reclamation projects when it comes to almost anything. I kind of hope you “go for it” so I can see what you are able to do. How much is possible and how much is impossible definitely remains to be seen.

  7. Now these two girls will definitely require extra work and there’s no doubt, Jeanne, that you can do it. Just cleaning alone would be an improvement. What a great challenge though.
When I was little ( maybe 4), I had a baby doll with a partial vinyl body and the stuffed middle body part, like the AMG’s. I always liked watching my mom put on lipstick and since I wasn’t allowed to wear it, I thought my baby doll could – I must have helped myself to my mother’s vanity, but I got a tube of lipstick and put it on my doll’s mouth. You can imagine how she looked with red lipstick circling her lips. More like a clown! At that age, I thought she was beautiful with my attempt to put it on her mouth. So, my mother tried everything over the years to clean the lipstick off her face to no avail. Still, my mother made my doll pretty clothes because I loved my doll regardless of the red stains on the lower part of her face. . Her name happened to be Julie.

I’m so happy for Karen and her family! A little boy coming in the future. That’s wonderful.

  8. It always surprises me that the American Girl dolls get so beat up. Those are expensive dolls! If I gave one to my daughter and she scribbled on it or cut its hair, I’d be heartbroken. I’m glad that you can fix them up and save them.
