~ Civil War Christmas Caroling ~ is now listed on Ebay…

I listed the Christmas dress for Rebecca and Addy Saturday evening, but only put the picture at the right side bar of the blog. I figured I’d wait until today to let you know it was on Ebay, but many of you checked in on the blog and saw it, so you found the listing by yourself… You can click on the picture at the side bar to see it or click HERE.

I received the first bid 7 minutes after it was listed! Woohoo! I’m glad to get things rolling right from the beginning. I debated and debated about which picture to use for the small Gallery shot that you see when you are scrolling on Ebay, looking for something. I know several of you liked the one with the shadow behind Addy, thinking it looked like it was night, but that small of a picture was just a bit too dark, so I used another one that was a little bit lighter. I guess it was the right call, since I got the first bid so quickly.

I REALLY had fun putting this set together… a bit of sewing and a bit of crafting! Figuring out how to make the music stick to the mittens, challenged my brain!

I asked Linda if she had ever put together a scene of her girls caroling… she told me, “no”… she didn’t have any music for them to hold, but she said maybe next year… She put together this scene where her girls are waiting for the bus to go shopping downtown! :o)
I asked her if she had given them her credit card… she laughed! You’ll enjoy this picture… Thank you Linda! They all look like they are ready to GO!

I know this is short, but I had a busy weekend…
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Christmas Caroling is a very pretty scene. The lighting for this photo seems just right for Addy’s night of caroling.
Linda you have done it again. I love all of your scenes but this one is especially cheery.

One year ago we moved to Moore County, NC to what we thought was a peaceful retirement community. This will be our second long stretch without power in 10 months. I have made a list of things that I can do without power. Decorate the tree and hope the lights work, file paperwork, clean the fridge, and Dress Dolls like Linda!
If you don’t know about Moore County, well we made the evening news.

Well phone charges are limited so that is all. Good Luck on the auction Jeanne!

  2. Charlotte Trayer

Woohoo! Three bids already! That is a very promising start, for a truly beautiful ensemble. Someone is going to be super happy with her new outfit. Do remind her to be careful with the lantern, though.

Debbie, thank you for your encouragement regarding my break. My first PT appt. is the 12th, for an evaluation. Then we will see. I am carefully using my arm just a bit more–still wearing 3/4 sleeve tops (easier to put on than long sleeves) but I still need a little help from Ron to get that left side pulled down. I can’t wait to wear all my fun Christmas tops, but they all have long sleeves. I thought I’d see which are the roomiest–maybe we can manage that. (I live for the day after Thanksgiving so I can get them all out, and I wear them until Epiphany! At least I can get my Christmas pins out…I have a ton of those!

Joy, I keep meaning to thank you for the card, which arrived a few days ago.

We still have chilly weather, but a slight warming trend is coming, so roads should clear soon. With all the steep, long hills in our area, even a little snow can cripple traffic!

Sounds like you are in your way to recovery. 🙂 It is good to move that arm a bit. I didn’t know to do that and ended up with a “frozen shoulder”.

Oh, I lost my first comment, so here we go again! Jeanne, you have managed to match the red and green perfectly in this set, so that one color doesn’t overpower the other. It certainly DOES say Christmas! Some lucky doll is going to be the envy of her other friends this Christmas, for sure! I didn’t have to look very hard for the auction, since Ebay sent it to me to check out!

Oh, those dolls of mine! They are always going places and doing things, but I’m the one who has to dress them, and keep them happy! This was a good way to have them wear their coats, since they don’t do that very often, and I was just remembering when I was a little girl, the excitement of going downtown to see Santa. I happened to forget their mittens, but so far, no frostbitten fingers! 😉

And now, they are back from their shopping trip and clamoring for their Christmas tree set up, while I’m still trying to get my own tree done!!

Glad to hear you are doing as well as you are, Charlotte, but Kathie, my sympathies to you on your loss of power. I hope that gets taken care of soon, but yes, while it is still out, dress your dolls and have fun!

Thank you, Jeanne, for showing my picture!

I always love your set-ups but this one is really super. And their coats are gorgeous but I guess they spend most of their time indoors so they would be too hot to wear most of the time. Yes these dolly girls can be very demanding. I said I’d decorate their tree as soon as I got mine done. Crickets! I didn’t get any volunteers to help and some said they were too vertically challenged to help. Excuses, excuses. We used to kid about our dog Chelsy not helping because she had no thumbs. A takeoff on a dog treat commercial where the dog said they’d get it themselves but they had no thumbs.

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Yes, my girls do spend most, if not all, their time indoors! But we can imagine, can’t we? I’m not brave enough to pose dolls outside yet, if I ever will! I store their tree already decorated, but….it is I. The basement Christmas closet, and they are upstairs! I’ll get there soon enough!

    2. Linda ….your photos are always super but these coats and hats are just beautiful. I love the one on the left that appears to be black but when I enlarged it maybe it is not? Either way it is awesome. Did you make them? Thanks for sending them to Jeanne😍

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Kathie, and I do mean Kathie this time! No, I did not make those coats! No am not THAT talented! That coat on the left is a replica of AG Nellie’s coat, and it is a dark, dark, charcoal wool, with a few grayish hairs woven in, so it doesn’t look stark black, but no doubt it is almost black.Thank you for the compliments!

So sorry Debbie, to hear of the power loss. Never fun. Do you have heat? And hopefully, a generator that will at least run the refrigerator and maybe a light or two? For awhile that was happening regularly to us, but this year, not. Hope the power has returned for you today.
Charlotte, glad to hear that wayward card finally made it. 🙂 Keep up whatever you are doing to heal.
Love the city shopping scene, Linda. Those coats are so sweet. Now, I think they need a winter scene so they can wear them again while throwing snowballs. or sledding. 🙂 So fun to see your girls. However, I do think they need a little brother. Like Jimmy Weeks. I think he was Betsy’s cousin or neighbor?
Love Jeanne’s great Christmas outfit. Going to be lots of bids on this one. 🙂
The mail sure seems to be slowing down with the crush. Hope things arrive soon and aren’t sitting in a warehouse somewhere. 🙂

  5. Linda in St. Louis

Oh my, Joy, those coats would not do in a snowball fight or sledding picture! They have snowsuits for that!
No boys in this house, and it better stay that way! The poor guy would be terribly outnumbered and would not have a thing to wear except what he came in!

    1. Joy in northern CA

Oh good. Snowsuits. For January. 🙂 And that little boy guy would make for some fun scenes. He could probably wear Betsy’s snowsuit if she has one. 🙂 Just a thought. 🙂

        1. Joy in northern CA

Maybe you can make that boy you don’t have some kind of a snow outfit? He would be so cute with Betsy. 🙂

  6. Joy, it was Debbie who lost power…so glad to know I’m not the only one who gets the Sofa Sisters mixed up😉. You are managing very well Debbie but twice without power in a year is annoying. Do you have a generator? I would be a mess … cranky and hovering under many blankets and here you are working away!
Jeanne the outfit will be a winner for sure. Everything about it is outstanding. The capelet and bonnet are my favorites🤗
Charlotte I have been going to PT for my shoulder and would be happy to share the exercise pictures… my cell is 402-708-4071 if you want me to send you pictures. I trust you and the sofa sisters😍

I know Rebecca and Addy’s ensemble is just going to do great at auction. I will check this one out often. Looks like your eye is improving daily.

Debbie, I’m so sorry about your power. We used to have this problem when we first moved to Sealy. It had always been a very small town but started growing shortly after we moved here. Our infrastructure was not up to the task. Over time it has improved and except for that problem during the winter storm of 2021 when the wind generators froze up, we no longer have problems. Fortunately, even in today’s world, there are many things to do without power. I can crochet, do smocking or other handwork. It’s also a good time to practice piano. And when I kept hearing about the grid being sabotaged, I went and bought a treadle sewing machine, extra belts and a repair instruction book. I am determined to sew no matter what.

No problem here getting things I order. I actually wish it would take a little longer. I ordered the grandkids Christmas presents the other day and they showed up yesterday. Now I’ve got a kitchen full of boxes and gifts that need wrapping. My Chorale Christmas concert is this Friday and Santa’s Wonderland is Sunday. After that I can focus totally on our Christmas things.

Last year due to David’s knee surgery we missed all the Christmas events at church so we will be back for those this year. At the moment we are not singing in the choir so we will only attend one Christmas Eve service rather than the two we usually do. Sean and Dionne prefer the 5 p.m. service these days since Azure is still so little, so we will join them for that one. Afterward we will all go out to eat. But it does seem like churches are doing Christmas Eve services earlier than ever. Ours are at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. For years the church we went to had three and the choir sang for all of them. They were 6 p.m. for families with very young children, 7:30 p.m and 11 p.m; When our kids were babies and we sang for all of the services, the church hired a nursery worker for the evening so we could sing for the late service too. By the time we got home and the children nestled all snug in their wee little beds, with visions of Santa in their heads, we were ready for bed ourselves but a good while from it. We had to create the magic and make the cookies and milk disappear. We barely got to bed before the munchkins reminded us it was Christmas morning. We really do miss those days but now we let Sean and Dionne create the magic and we go there Christmas morning.

  8. The caroling outfit is wonderful and some little doll will be so happy with her Christmas outfit.

Hope your power comes on and stays on, Debbie. It’s horrible when that happens.
Glad your doing as well as possible, Charlotte.

What a cute scene, Linda! I especially love Susan’s (#21) bright red coat and Betsy’s with the Nordic trim and heart buttons. Going downtown for Christmas was a big deal when I was a child and we visited my grandparent’s between Thanksgiving and Christmas and then would come for Christmas. Scenes from Kit’s books are straight out of my childhood as I too was born and lived the first seven years in Cincinnati and my grandparents lived there from my mom’s childhood on. We would visit Union Terminal and go downtown to Fountain Square and then shop at Pogue’s, Shillito’s, and McAlpin’s. Pogue’s was the favorite and then Shillito’s. Shillito’s is only one that still exists and I remember the Shillito elves and going to have lunch in the tearoom during Christmas shopping. My grandfather would drive us downtown. Afterwards, we would head to Findley Market in Over-the-Rhine for some treats before heading back. Happy memories!

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Laura! That red coat is one I bought from a seller on EBay long ago, and came compete with the little beret and a pair of white fur trimmed boots! And it is lined too, like a real coat would be!
Betsy’s coat is a Robert Tonner original made especially for her, and it’s such a cute coat!
Yes, back when I was a little girl, going downtown was something special too, and we made a day of it, shopping, eating out at Famous Barr, and always took the bus down, since my mother did not drive then, so we were loaded with packages on the way home, but happy and tired. Happy memories!

  9. Debbie in North Carolina

Thanks for all the words of encouragement! We decorated two trees and cooked the remaining thawed food. We will see what tomorrow brings.
No generator. We just didn’t need one in Tennessee.

    1. Joy in northern CA

I guess you must have a gas stove? or the BBQ. Hope the freezer stays frozen or you have added ice there and the refrigerator as well. When ours was out for several days a couple of years ago, we had to dump everything as we just couldn’t keep it cold enough. And ice was very hard to come by. Really don’t want that to happen again so that’s why we bought the generator. Now we’re looking at one with solar panels. Has to be strong enough though to power a refrigerator. 🙂 Sounds like you are getting a lot done. Keep your spirits up.

    2. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Debbie, I hope you get everything worked out. I am happy that you are continuing to prepare for the festivities.

  10. Linda G from MN

Beautiful dress and outfit. It struck me when I read the title, this outfit goes with the carol “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day!” Henry Watsworth Longfellow wrote the words in midst of dark days in his own life during the Civil war. The final verse is one of hope. A film titled “I Hear the Bells” was just released to theaters last week that tells the true story behind the poem. I’m thinking the Sofa Sisters would enjoy the “rest of the story” behind the carol. Jennifer Chiaverini also wrote a novel titled “Christmas Bells” that is based on the poem.

  11. Thank you everyone, for your kind compliments on Linda’s dolls in their coats and my new listing. We BOTH appreciate how you all encourage us and take time to let us know your thoughts…
Dolls are fun, aren’t they? They sometimes are what gets me through the day! I love sewing for them!
    Blessings, Jeanne
