American Girl, Addy, just had to try on this Christmas dress!

Hi everyone,
As long as I type on my desktop, I can see the screen fairly well, (over the blue bubble) and it has gotten smaller since yesterday…it’s about the size of baseball, (well, what I’m seeing…it’s not actually there). Maybe by the start of next week, I’ll be back to normal…

I’m glad you liked the mittens… I did a little more to them today… adding a band of stretch lace trim to the tops… and I stitched with tiny stitches, the Velcro pieces onto her thumb areas a little better. They were just adhesive and I didn’t want them coming off.

Here are a few pictures of Addy in the set…

I did a few different pictures with the lights on, off, just the street lamp, etc… I think you’ll see the difference… I’m not sure which ones I like best…

Of course I had to take one with the “street lamp on fire” like I did for Rebecca…

Here are two more…

Now I need to sort out ALL my pictures… I have a bajillion of them… and I’ll be ready for Ebay…

Thanks Everyone,
Have a wonderful weekend,
See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

Addy looks beautiful in this outfit, too! I like the changes you made in the mittens, Jeanne.

Our friend Jon came over to give me a hand with a couple of things today, and then took me to the PO and grocery store, so we are stocked up for a while. When we were out, most roads were bare and wet, or at least enough bare patches to easily drive the small hills (fortunately the hills nearest us are relatively small; in some areas they are very long and steep!) I’m glad we went when we did, though, as we’ve had a little more snow tonight!

    1. Thank you Charlotte! I’m glad you like Addy’s set. She sure does… and I’m already trying to figure out how to take it off her..
I am so glad your neighbors and friends are taking such good care of you and Ron!
      Blessings, Jeanne

Addy looks very pretty in this outfit too, Jeanne! Actually, I think a lot of dolls would look just as pretty, so this dress can be a very versatile one when it comes to who is going to wear it!

As far as what picture I like the best, I like the 5th one down, with it a little bit dark, but too dark, so that it looks like she is caroling right at dusk, with the lamp showing off it’s flame, but not on fire!! This would be a cute scene with several other dolls in the pictures to make a caroling group! Caroling is an old rtime tradition that seems to be on the way out, except for small groups. Oh, for the good old days, when carolers came to your door! St. Louis used to have a very large Christmas caroling association, and I remember when they used to come to our house when I was a little girl. Such fun memories!

Charlotte, I can’t believe all the bad weather you are having, right when people are shopping and getting ready for Christmas! That always throws a wrench in the plans! Keep safe!

    1. Thank you Linda,
I think you’re right… most dolls would look look great in these colors!
You’ll have to do a caroling scene with your girls… if you haven’t before… it would be fun with a few girls together… I didn’t think a couple of nudies would work very well for my pictures…
I’ve gone caroling before, but its been a LONG time ago…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, I am so glad your surgery went well and that you are making progress. This ensemble has turned out really, really well. Rounding the shoulders of the cape was smart, and your mittens/music, so very clever. For me, Addy is the perfect model for this, as I am very fond of Addy.

Charlotte, I am glad you got to keep your appointment and that the power was restored. That must have been very nerve wracking and cold.

To Ann and Alina, hello; hope you are both doing well.

Linda, when our kids were young, we had huge caroling parties and we walked our neighborhood with lanterns and printed music, followed by a large buffet. Then I played the piano and we all sang more holiday music into the night. It was such great fun. We have missed that, but great memories and super voices.

    1. Hi Sally,
I picked Addy for the Gallery picture on Ebay… it will be listed in about 30 minutes…
Thanks for your compliments on her outfit…
Oh, such fond memories of caroling and being around friends… so you are a pianist? I don’t know that I remember you saying that… do you ever serenade your dolls or doggies? :o)
      Thanks Sally,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Our Advent season has begun. Waiting for the coming of Jesus. We’ve been caroling since Christmas Eve. Greetings to all the sisters from the sofa.

Glad to hear that the “blue bubble” is shrinking. Do they use that with every cataract surgery? Just planning for the future here. πŸ™‚
Kind of funny, but there was a red triangular “freeze warning” icon on my computer this morning. And yikes it is cold for us. Glad we have heat and the house is slowly warming up. Hope there are no more power outages for Charlotte.
Keep warm and safe everyone and have a good weekend.

Hi Joy, I will share my experience for your peace of mind. I had cataract surgery 3X, one eye done twice which I assure you is not the norm. I did not have a bubble with any of my cataract surgeries. However, I did have a bubble with each corneal transplant, one in each eye. I am sure there are variations of recovery methods for cataract surgery depending on the doctor. My hubby’s mother just had cataract surgery at age 91 and was driving the next day! But she is the bionic woman, LOL.

      1. Hi Joy, I will share my mom’s experience with cataract surgery also. She had one done in 2020 and the other last year. She had no blue bubble with either one. “It really is NO big deal” she said after waiting so long with the one eye that she was having such trouble reading/ driving etc. She was afraid because my grandmother had cataract surgery and ended up with a blood clot. She was fine, but that was back in the 1970’s when they made you lie motionless in bed with your head propped with sandbags on each side. My mom and I went out for lunch after hers. Her vision is so perfect now, no contacts, no glasses.

        1. Joy in northern CA

Thanks Laura. Just what I want to hear. Up and kicking soon after. πŸ™‚ Not doing it yet though.

      2. Joy in northern CA

Thanks Debbie. My husband had a big bubble that lasted a month with his detached retina. Understandable for that, but I wasn’t aware that it was used for cataracts as well. Thanks so much. πŸ™‚

        1. Hi again Joy,
I don’t think the bubble is used in cataract surgery, but for floaters and retina problems it is… because it’s on the inside of the eye.
The dr did say he did a little Lasix on my retina. But I didn’t understand what he meant.
What I had done was called a Vitrectomy… I saw there was a video you could watch, but I didn’t want to watch it… it’s done and I’m happy and grateful…
          ~Jeanne

    2. Hi Joy,
This wasn’t cataract surgery…but floaters removed. I didn’t have the blue bubble thing when I had my cataracts removed… this has just been with the floaters removed. The dr said it was a bubble he inserts. I think with a gas injection, that helps keep the parts that are healing from sticking to each other. By the time the bubble disappears, the eye is well on its way to being healed.

      I hope you stay warm… and don’t freeze… who knows… you might have a white Christmas! :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, sounds like your recovery is on track. You must be relieved to have both eyes finished, clear seeing ahead! Addy/Rebecca’s holiday dress turned out to be very festive. The photos are very good and you will have a hard time choosing-Good Luck!

Charlotte, I hope you are in for a stretch of pleasant winter weather. The rest of us would like that too as your storms become our storms eventually. I hope you are not doing too much with your healing left arm. I suffered the same injury last April, fracture to the humerus just below the shoulder. The best thing and the most painful to me was physical therapy. Most of my shoulder function returned without surgery.

    1. Hi Debbie,
It WAS hard to narrow down my pictures and then decide on the Ebay Gallery picture to grab everyone’s attention…
But it’s done and will go on Ebay in just a few minutes.

It’s strange that you had the exact same break in your shoulder as Charlotte…
Thanks for your kind words about the Christmas dress…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Your whole vision of this set certainly has been a wonderful one. Some sweet American Girl will be a Christmas Queen in that whole ensemble. Doing it while having eye treatments is pretty darn amazing too!
Charlotte take it easy and you and Ron and Joy all stay warm!
    .

    1. Thank you Kathie
I’m so glad it turned our like it did! I’m very pleased with it!
I only had small things to do to finish it up… raking the pictures and deciding if they were clear enough was probably the most challenging part…
Well, narrowing them down was pretty tough too…
I received “something” from you…. may I share some pictures? :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

I thought Addy would be pretty in this dress, but I didn’t know this would be one of her best, and Addy has modeled some of my favorite beautiful dresses. Linda picked my favorite “mood” picture — Addy looks like she’s really caroling. The ‘snow” on the streetlight is perfect, and so is her expression. In terms of color, I think the last picture is most flattering to both dress and Addy — the colors are very rich and probably accurate.

Charlotte is having one adventure after another. Here’s mine. Yesterday I drove all the way across town to have my car emissions checked. I forgot my walking stick. The young man who was to test my car promptly offered his arm. Then a co-worker carefully escorted me to the waiting booth. The man who took my money came into the booth and offered his arm to the pay station and my car.

I was sorry to look so feeble, but considering that 3 years ago I was in a hospice, unable even to turn over, I’m glad to walk at all, and was grateful yesterday for the help. You never know where you’ll find it.

    1. You were so lucky to find three sweet fellows to offer you help!
Yes I remember how sick you were…and now just look at you!
      Way to go Marilyn!

    2. Hi Marilyn,
The listing just went on Ebay and I think the picture you liked is the one I picked. I did like the one that had the shadow behind her, but the gallery picture is small and has to grab people’s attention.. the small shadowy picture just seemed too dark..

I remember that time 3 years ago and it was awful… I remember it well… I am SO SO glad you got better! And I’m SO SO glad those who were there to help you when you needed them, were there!!
      Thank you Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. This outfit is just lovely and so Christmasy! I like photo number 5 and 4 is nice as well. Rebecca and Addy both wear it so well. We used to go caroling every year with our home school group. A couple of years we went to one of the local nursing homes and each child who played an instrument offered a couple of carols prior to us singing. My daughter played violin. Those years we brought treats to share, otherwise we would go to someone’s house for cocoa, tea, and treats afterwards. I really miss the caroling.
Well, the Christmas countdown is is full swing. You’ve accomplished IMO one of the essential Christmas dresses with this Civil War one. Now you just have to crank out a Victorian, a Colonial, and one for the Rubies. πŸ™‚ just kidding.

    1. Joy in northern CA

I’m sure the kids will remember the caroling. Fun.
One year we took our 2/3 grade classes caroling to a local nursing home. The kids were all wearing their Santa hats and were adorable. Everyone enjoyed the performance and the director pleaded with us to come back. I don’t think they had many young visitors. Thanks for reminding me of that day. πŸ™‚

    2. Thanks so much, Laura,
Thanks for your kind compliments on this Christmas dress. I truly enjoyed making this one…and hope someone wants it for their Christmas doll!!
      I sure do wish I could crank out a Victorian, a Colonial and a RRFF doll dress… oh how I wish I could… but I don’t see how I can…
      Thanks Laura
      Blessings, Jeanne

I love this ensemble on Addy too. I can’t wait to see the bidding on this outfit. It should be fun to watch. Great idea on sewing down the Velcro when you are planning to sell the outfit. I’m not opposed to re-sticking the dot or replacing it if need be if I make something, but if I were to buy an outfit, I would prefer it stayed in place. I love the snow on the streetlamp. Looks really authentic. I like the 5th picture too. It really does look like she’s caroling at dusk. I have several sets of carolers in my Christmas Village. I remember when we used to do caroling with the Girl Scouts and our church junior choir when I was growing up. When I was in DuPont Chorus we went to the children’s hospital and did caroling. My Chorale used to do it around the shops in Bellville for Small Town Christmas, but so many are older now and not as mobile as we used to be. But it sure does seem like caroling is not as popular as it used to be.

I just looked at our weather for next week and I’m wondering if I can share with a sofa sister in colder climes. Then we’d both be happy. It’s December but starting Monday we will be in the low 80s until Friday when the high is 76. Lows in the high 60s. Then we will thankfully be seeing a drop. Christmas is 60 degrees with a low of 40, so it will at least feel like we’re not celebrating Christmas in the tropics. For grins I looked ahead to what is predicted for the summer and, if the predictions are correct, we will not be above 95 all summer. Seems impossible but we have had summers where we were in the low 90s all summer. Last year with day after day of 100+ was unusual and I hope not to see that again.

Marilyn’s comment about needing assistance walking made me think about the fact that we will be going with Sean and family to Santa’s Wonderland next weekend. Walking used to be my fun exercise but the last couple years not so much. I have a sciatic nerve that doesn’t like it when I spend too much time on my feet, especially doing what I call the mall crawl. That’s when everyone is strolling along slowly looking at things and I am standing in one place too much. I bought a new pair of walking shoes and hope this helps some and I told David maybe we should take the nice walker we bought for him to use after he had his heart surgery and we could share it. Hopefully they will have a lot of places to sit because the place has things where you have to stand in line for awhile. We won’t be doing that but we’ll have to wait around while our family does. I will be content just sitting and enjoying all the wonderful lighting. I’m hoping that our new step-in tub and our rowing machine will help alleviate some of my problems.

    1. Hi Barbara
I hope you’re right about the bidding… that would be a nice present!
I spent some time looking for “carolers” pictures online to see what needed to be in the pictures I was taking. A few more “bodies” would have been ideal, but I guess my girlsxare just doing the “solo” thing.
It is 26 degrees here right now and I have been freezing all day! I hope we get a warm up next week, but maybe not 80!!

I hope you have the best time at Santa’s Wonderland… take it easy and take your time and enjoy your time!!
      Blessings, Jeanne
