Look what American Girl, Samantha just got… a reticule!

I didn’t have a kitty or a suitcase or basket to go with Samantha’s dress set, so I opted for the reticule several of you mentioned might be nice. It took me f-o-r-e-v-e-r to decide how I wanted to make it and I hope this one is satisfactory to your liking. It looks a little washed out in my pictures, so I’ll try to get some better pictures of it over the weekend… or possibly for the “LISTING!” :o)

I took Samantha’s hairbow off to tuck the neckstrings down in her dress bodice, and I bumped her ribbon. I thought it looked kind of cute this way, so I snapped a couple pictures…

I fixed it back the way it was…

We had a nice photo session and I wasn’t sure which pictures I liked best, so I just decided to show most of them…

Here is the reticule I came up with… it’s much richer looking than in this photo, which looked like I have pasted bright candies on the front… It’s a creamy fabric, a vintage lace and some vintage hand made trim…

She’s such a pretty doll…

I hope everyone likes it… I’ll do my best to get it listed over the weekend… so keep an eye out for it…

See everyone Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. That hair bow Does look quite cute, “bumped” that way!! I guess that gives another option for how to wear it!!

When I first saw the close-ups of the reticule, I thought, “Too white!” but then in the distance shots, it doesn’t look that way, so I’m guessing it was the way the light was hitting it that made a difference. I think, though, that I might remove the flower that’s inside the heart, or else remove the heart and bring that flower closer to the others. Just throwing the idea out there, wondering if that might make an appreciable difference.

Other than that, this outfit has come together beautifully! And, yes, Samantha is a beautiful doll.

So, can Sam get her hand inside the purse? Maybe a hankie goes inside? What about something dangling at the pointed bottom? Seems like there may be too many flowers with the head bow and the waist bunch. I do like the bow this way because it can be seen against her lovely dark hair.
Rubyredtoys.com has a new girl out today. Dorothy. She is a cutie. 🙂
Well, I can’t complain about the heatwave anymore because we are supposed to get rain. The dollies here are doing a rain dance right now. 🙂

Very, very nice set, Jeanne. I’m sort of with Charlotte about that flower in the heart. I would remove that, and although the reticule struck me as being too white, it is cream as are the pearls and boots for “the look”.
Well done. Have a super weekend.
I just ordered Sweet Dorothy. 😬😆

  4. The outfit has turned out very nice. But on the reticule. I agree on losing the flower in the heart. A pearl or two instead would look nice, maybe even as Joy suggested, a few also dangling from the point of the reticle if you have any.

I’m a bit late here, but I can see that there are some suggestions about the recto le that I agree with. I too, think that the flower inside the heart is too much. Also think a pearl teardrop would look nice at the point on the bottom. Overall, I just think there is too much going on, although it might not seem that way in real life.

Samantha looks beautiful in this dress, Jeanne, no matter how the bow is fixed! As long as the reticle is a soft, muted lace, I think it works just fine!

  6. I like the “bumped’ ribbon best. It shows off the velvet flowers better and BIG bows were definitely the Victorian/Edwardian “look”. Of course, Samantha is Edwardian. As an aside, that may be one of the reasons I’m really attached to her. My maternal grandmother who I was extremely close to was born in 1903 and my great-aunt (grandfather’s sister) who I was close to as well was born in 1901.

I like the shape of the reticule. I’m going to take a completely different viewpoint and say to remove all flowers and move the heart down just a tad or even place it in the center of the trim and let the trim show up more. I do agree a little pearl teardrop at the bottom of the reticule would be lovely.

  7. HI everyone,
I made a few changes to the reticule and hope you like them because I listed this on Ebay this evening. I also took a few outside pictures so you can see the colors better… I will get the link added to the listing added to the side bar in just a few minutes.
    Thanks everyone,
    Blessings, Jeanne

Beautiful, Jeanne! I love the change of the gold heart with a gold button! And those pearls are just the thing to give the recticule the perfect touch! A beautiful set!
