My sewing machines are in place…

My day was too busy to get to your comments…but thank you for your kind words about my new sewing table. It is amazing that just one inch wider and 7 inches longer would make that much difference, but it sure seems like it’s so much more room between my machines now.

Well, this is not good. I was typing my post for Tuesday and my computer said it needed to update. BIG MISTAKE… now everything is new and not the way I am used to uploading my pictures. I’ve taken forever to get this one picture uploaded. So it looks like I’m going to have to learn a new way to get the pictures on here. Rats… I don’t like learning new “computer” stuff! And… I had something really cute that was “dolly related” to show you… :o(

Anyway, I did get the machines all in place and my hubby put little cup hooks on the underside 2 x 4’s so I could hook the excess cords on them and not have them laying all over the floor… dirt catchers! :o) I love how it looks and almost don’t want to put anything on the table now to “clutter it up!” But I guess I will.

This afternoon I made dinner for a friend who just had her first baby. She is in her 40’s and couldn’t stop crying because she felt so blessed. It was a weepy moment to say the least. Well, I tried to load the picture from my phone and got it… so now we have 2 pictures to look at… I used my Savory pan and made Barbeque chicken… along with corn casserole and cookies.

Well, I know that’s not a very exciting post, but I’ll have to figure out how to upload my pictures from my desktop… so I guess I’ll call it quits and see you tomorrow…

Blessings, Jeanne

Your sewing space looks so beautiful now!! I love the idea of cup hooks on the underside, to keep the cords under control .

Well, the other night My computer downloaded big updates, and now my dim/bright control doesn’t work! i contacted Geek Squad last night and they worked on it remotely. This mornin it worked again–yay! But tonight, when I pulled my laptop out of the bag, those controls didn’t work again, so I have contacted Geek Squad again. SO frustrating! I’d just as soon they kept everything the same all the time!

Your bbq chicken looks delicious! Yes, I’m sure if I’d have been able to have a baby, even if over 40, I would be in tears of joy all the time! (Our son is adopted.)

    1. Thank you Charlotte,
I hate to see my cords all strung out on the floor, so looping them up underneath was a great solution.
My friend had had 3 miscarriages, so this was particularly special to them.
Computer issues drive me crazy… and trying to figure them out by myself drives me even crazier!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Oh gosh, that sewing table set-up looks just fabulous! I am puzzled about how did you get the cords underneath the table, since the top fits so snuggly against the wall? Did
George drill holes in the top? Your chair too, looks just wonderful, and I can’t help but think this setup will only inspire you to make more of your beautiful outfits!

I can imagine the new mother’s happiness at having a baby after 40, especially if it was her first! I remember when I had my first baby, Jennifer, I was in a room with a woman who just also had her first and she also was 40! I thought she was ancient, since I was only 27! Now to me 40 seems quite young!

    1. HI Linda,
I just pulled the table away from the wall about 1/4″ and put the cords back there… there is a tiny little 1/4″ gap but hardly anything like there was before.
It’s really wonderful having my table back in there… I’m getting ready to go in there and try to figure out where the last of my stuff goes. It will be nice to be ALL finished… one of these days! :o)
Angel asked me if I wanted to hold the baby and I said, “no”… I actually just wanted to watch HER hold him… she could not stop touching his head and his little nose…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Your sewing table — and chair — look wonderful. I’m proud of you for working out how to give us pictures today instead of taking a day off. By tomorrow you will have solved the problem.

Speaking of adoption, I helped a friend with a book about adoptees and other unaccompanied children (what the UN calls children whose parents are missing from their lives). I was surprised to find out how many noted people fit into that category. I finally threatened to write a book about famous people who were not adopted. The book is called Finding Our Place. It was published by an academic press, so it’s expensive and best borrowed through InterLibrary Loan at your local library, if you are interested. Adoption is like a huge underground stream in history, unseen but vital.

Back to the sewing room. Is the any place on your walls for a small gallery of photos of your work? you have such great pictures that a seasonal rotation would be nice. Besides it would be fun to look for antique frames. You also need a couple of pictures of some of your repair projects. Then when someone asks what you do in this beautiful room, you’d have an easy answer.

    Joy, are you still ok?

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I’m hoping to get my computer issues solved. It’s not my cup of tea, but I’ll give it my best shot. :o)

I hope I got this picture to go through… Congrats on your book! What a fun and colorful cover!

After I live in my room for a while, maybe I’ll add some pictures of my doll dresses on the walls…
      Blessings, Jeanne

Dear Marilyn, congratulations! This is wonderful. I will look for your book. I have an adopted daughter.

  4. So nice! Very happy for you to have this project completed. What a wonderful work space, and such a smart solution to the cord problem.
How thoughtful to make dinner for a mom and newborn. I’m sure it was thoroughly appreciated.
My cousin had two kids in her 40’s, both invitro. Only problem, she’s retirement age now and still has one in high school with college to follow.
Fog has rolled in today greatly helping the firefighters. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
I’m so glad to have this completed TOO! It’s been a long time coming, but I’m very happy with how it turned out.
I had Kristoffer at 30 and Rebecca at 33 and thought THAT was old…
Oh well, she’s young at heart and her little boy will make her even feel younger!
I hope you are still staying safe.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Your sewing table and chair look just wonderful. Everything is so convenient now that I’m sure you will sew up a storm.
How wonderful for your friend. A friend at church finally had a baby in her early 40’s after trying for many years. She suffered for endometriosis and finally after many surgeries was able to get pregnant. She had a sweet baby girl. That was so kind to make them dinner.

    1. HI Laura,
I’m hoping this new sewing table will help me get things churned out quicker too.

Angel had 3 miscarriages before this one so he’s a pretty special little guy!
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I love, love, love your new sewing studio! Sometimes I think I don’t sew as much as I could because my room seems so crowded. I’ve organized as best I can. Of course if I spent more time in there I would probably use up some things that are causing the crowding. Need to work on that.

My husband is adopted. His adoptive parents could not have children. His mother had Meningitis when she was a teen and had very bad scoliosis, so it was good she didn’t get pregnant. By the time they decided to adopt they were older so could not adopt a baby. He and his biological sister were adopted together. He was about 4 and she was about 5 1/2. I was 34 when I had my daughter and almost 36 when I had my son. I didn’t think I’d ever have any children because none of the guys I dated seemed to enjoy the idea. My first husband (4 years) had been married before with two daughters. After we were married a few years he told me he decided he didn’t want any more children and that he really didn’t want to be married any more. I was then single for eight years until I met David. He already had three children to his first wife who left him for someone richer. He loved children and we welcomed two more. I never thought how old I would be when they were ?. Well I’m 73 now and they are 37 and 39 so all that didn’t matter anyway. Actually having children later kept people thinking I was younger than I was. But it did make me an older grandmother who lacks the energy I used to have. On having a new grandbaby in January, I’m thinking maybe I’ll just be a story reading Nanna and leave the stuff requiring more energy to their older siblings.

What a yummy dinner you prepared. So nice of you.

    1. HI Barbara,
Letting go of some of the stuff I had was a good decision for me. I don’t even miss it, but I thought I couldn’t live without it… turns out I could! :o)
Thanks for your compliments on the room.

Interesting story about you and your hubby… I just assumed you and David had been married from the beginning. I’m going to be 64 on Saturday and neither of my kids are married so grands are a LONG way off for me… I guess I’ll be a story reading granny too! :o)
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Hi Jeanne
Are you one of those sensible people who clean up after every project? I know if that was my space it would get more and more cluttered and I would have to spend hours tidying it up before I could sew Had to do that on Saturday Every time it sees a lovely uncluttered space my brain says ‘ooh look SPACE lets have fun’ and before I know it I am trying to work in 6 inches of space again lol. Seriously though it is wonderful and I love how you can just scoot from one machine to the other.
A friend of mine was in her late thirties before she had her son. She would have loved more children but it didn’t happen Now it looks like she will never have grandchildren either as neither her son or his partner want children. However she and his partner’s mother are working on Stephanie with promises of lots of childcare lol.
Today both Sam and Greg have Chemo. Sam is taking Greg then coming home, then later I am picking up Sam and taking her to the main hospital. I then go to a different hospital to pick up Greg but there may be a delay, hopefully not too long! It makes it harder because he can’t use a cell phone so Sam has to go in with him and give them my phone number so they can let me know if there is a delay. Once I have picked up him I then have to take him home or go straight on to pick up Ashley from school depending on the time, then I have to pick up Sam and take her home, so that is my afternoon done. Greg also has another appointment tomorrow so Sam will have to do that as I am getting my eyes tested.

    1. Thank you Anne,
I’m trying hard to keep my new space tidy…once it gets cluttered, it seems to grow like crazy.
It sounds like YOUR LIFE is what’s crazy right now. Oh my goodness…you are very busy!! I hope things get done…and you get some rest!
      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, the sewing room looks perfect!

How nice of you to be there for a friend. That was so thoughtful.

    1. Thank you Dorothy,
I’m loving my new sewing area and spent part of tonight in there working on organizing things. It feels so clean and neat in there now1 I love it!
      Thanks so much!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Really enjoyed the pictures of your sewing table and machines. Curious, but what is that machine all the way to the right?

    1. HI Lynn,
That is my blindhemmer… I bought it years ago on Ebay… and it was one of my biggest purchases on Ebay… I used it a lot when I made curtains and big full skirts on the dresses I made for little girls. Quite the time saver instead of hand hemming.
      Thanks for asking,
      Blessings, Jeanne
