A new Dolly Trellis…

I’m writing this post Tuesday afternoon instead of in the evening so I can work in my sewing room, getting things organized. I did figure out a way to get my pictures loaded, but very much dislike the way I have to do it. The next time Kristoffer comes over, I’ll ask him if there isn’t an easier and better way. There are too many steps and I can’t give a name to things so I have to just guess what pictures I have and hope I remember them all. Not gonna work!

Okay, so I’ll show you something I found at the Goodwill. It will only be for my littlest girls… like 8″ Ten Ping and 6.5″ Navi, but I couldn’t resist. It will be especially cute to use at Easter… Sorry about the nudies in my pictures… they have no clothes… :o(

It’s a fun little wooden trellis.

It isn’t just a fun thing to stand behind your dolls, but being 3-D, they can stand inside it for a really cute look…

Ten Ping wanted to give it a try…

There’s even room for Ten Ping to stand on the end…

Navi said, “Oh, me too!”

See, it’s just a bit too small for 10″ Noel…

I think it will be adorable with flowers or vines draped on it…or some “mini” Wisteria…wouldn’t that be cute?

BUT… it’s also “reversible” in a way… look at the other side… already decorated…

Ten Ping and Navi said, “Oh, more pictures please!”

I picked it up and wandered around the Goodwill with it to make sure I wanted to keep it, but for $3, I decided, yeah, sure, go for it! :o)

I could even stain the one side to be able to use it in the Fall… I sense another project coming on… I could put lights on it at Christmas… Oh yes, this will work just fine!

Thanks everyone,
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

What a cute little setting for your smallest dolls!! I love how the one side is plain (so you can add your own creative touches) and one side is so beautifully decorative!! I expect we’ll be seeing a fair bit of it, as you sew for Ten Ping and Navi!

    1. Thank you Charlotte,
After I tried out my dolls in it, I was pretty sure I wanted to keep it…
I can’t wait to use it.

  2. What a cute find, Jeanne! That’s why I never go to Goodwill !:-) I was tot ally surprised to see the back side of it so sweetly decorated! I wonder what it was originally for, maybe something for a little flower arrangement? You do have the perfect dolls for it and it will be a very useful thing for you to have when you have the smaller dolls to add interest to the setting! Perfect!

    1. Hi Linda,
My props shelf is a little small now…oh dear!
I wasn’t “looking” for more props…guess it just found me…
I’m thinking about how to use it….and which doll to pick.
      Thanks so much
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Absolutely a darling find! $3.00?.. oh yes!
I like that it’s reversible.. like having two trellises:)
Just putting tiny props like pumpkins and hay bales will give you a fall feeling .. those mini props at Michael’s are calling you! Lol

    1. Hi Shara,
I already have some haybales and pumpkins… oh goodie…this might be lots of fun!!
      Thanks Shara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I have got to start going to Goodwill! You find the most amazing purchases! Now you need to put clothes on those cute dolls.
Also could you tell us what your 4 machines do, I know one is for sewing and maybe two of them are? A serger?

    1. Hi Sylvia,
You never know what you’ll find at the Goodwill. That’s why I like to go…it’s always a surprise…
I know my girls need clothes…I need to have a standby dress for each girl for cases like this.
The machines from left to right are my sewing tanke ate my Baby Lock Esante, in the corner us my Janome My Lick serger. Then I have a My Excel 15S by New Home, and on the far right is a blind hemmer.
      Thanks Sylvia,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Love your thrifting find. Can’t go wrong with this, so many cute options are brewing to use this creatively.
    Great price too!

    1. Thank you Susette,
It was fun find and not to have gotten it, would have been silly… :o)
      Thanks Susette,

  6. I love Shara’s comment. You were so pleased about spending so little and she has given you another place to spend, though again, probably not a lot of money. But what a good idea, with fall coming.
I was hoping for another AG dress, maybe something for Addy, but I think that while it’s still summer, you need a summer outfit that will show off your new prop. Where will you store it?
Besides, Addy looks great in fall clothes and won’t mind waiting.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I already have pumpkins and haybales and didn’t have to spend a cent…this time…

I’m not ready for summer to be over, so I think I’ll do another summer something… :o)
      Thanks Marilyn

  7. Oh, what a great find! I haven’t been “shopping” at my favorite thrift store since before Covid. Not sure if it will even open again. Really miss the hunt.
Apparently, daughter told grand about my Ginny dolls, and now she wants to play with them. She said she’d be careful. Humm. A little hard for me to give them up, so I’ve stalled because they all need to be restrung. For the younger generation, the dolls, Ginny, Muffie, etc. were 8″ and very popular in the 1950’s when I was growing up. They aren’t hard to string, but I need to find the kits they now have available. Anyone restrung one?
So nice to wake up to fog and cooler weather without much smoke. Work continues on putting out the fires. The one near us requires fire fighters to hike in miles to reach the rugged area. No roads.

    1. I had a Ginny doll back in the 1950s. When I started collecting dolls I knew I needed a Ginny so I searched e-bay and found one from the 1950s. Unfortunately most of the original clothes I found were not in good shape. I never had many clothes for mine, but my friend belonged to the one a month club. Then she and her parents decided she wasn’t getting them fast enough so they cancelled that and bought her one a week. She had tons of clothes and was willing to allow me to share when I was at her house.

      1. That’s a lot of outfits. I might be in contention with that as I had my grandmother and mother who both made outfits for my Ginny’s. I have two wardrobes both made by my grandfather, of clothing, shoes, etc. I believe most of it is still is good shape. Haven’t looked in years. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

    2. Hi Joy,
Oh goodness, that’s a hard one…letting your granddaughter play with your vintage dolls. I’m not sure what I’d do…
I hope you guys get some rain soon…we had a downpour today for about 10 minutes…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. If that isn’t the cutest! Those little girls look perfect with it and it will work for no matter what season. Now I need to look in my seasonal stuff because I have something similar…only a wishing well.
The Goodwill is a treasure trove at times. This would be a good time to check it out.
I guess today will be a day to figure out what to do with tomatoes. Giving them away is good, freezing is good, eating is always good, haven’t had BLT’s for awhile. Saw a recipe for fried green tomatoes that I may try too.
Have a fun day in your new room…didn’t get to comment yesterday but it all looks so organized and professional!

    1. Thank you Kathie,
It IS really cute and will be fun to set up little scenes using it.
I usually don’t make special trips to my Goodwill…but stop when I’m passing by.
If you find your wishing well. You’ll have to show us…
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. What a cute find. It’s great that one side is decorated and the other is plain. I love Shara’s idea of pumpkins etc. for fall. Then you need a pack of those tiny battery operated Christmas lights for Christmastime.
I just thought of how you could use it even for Noel and Holly. If it’s set back aways the size discrepancy won’t be noticeable.

    1. Hi Laura,
I saw the painted side first at Goodwill so “I ” was surprised at the white side… the opposite of what you all saw first…
I already have some pumpkins and haybales and little battery operated lights… I have some little leaves on a vine that should work…

I’ll try that for Noel and Holly…it just might work…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. What an adorable trellis! I have a few dolls it would work fine for. I really need to check out Goodwill. I’m great for dropping things off, but don’t take the time to go in and look around.

You mentioned you thought David and I had always been married. It’s nearly 41 years now so it seems that way to us too, but the funny thing is our first marriages were in the same month (June) and the same year (1968), but he was in Colorado and I was in Delaware. I ended up in Texas because my first husband worked for DuPont and we were transferred here. David was transferred here from a company he worked for in Denver. Our paths crossed when I moved from the east side of Houston to the west side where he lived. I worked for Shell and they were building a complex on that side of town. We both attended the same church, he was in the choir, I joined the choir and, as they say, the rest is history.

Regarding adopted children, my stepson is adopted. After David’s first wife had their two daughters she could not have any more so they decided to adopt a son. He is 45 now.

Right now we are on hurricane watch. As of last night’s news it looked like Houston was going to take a direct hit and it would be ugly. During the night Laura jogged a bit eastward and our danger decreased. It is expected to make landfall as a Cat. 4 between Houston and New Orleans. We are now expecting 30-35 mph winds and decent rains but it doesn’t appear that flooding will be a big issue unless it hangs around too long. Then they show her making a hook and heading northeastward. It seems Marco has weakened and is no longer a threat. We didn’t expect to get anything from Laura but that has changed. Today and tomorrow will be nail biting days since she keeps changing course.

    1. Hi Barbara,
Our Goodwill always has lots of trinkets like this…last week I saw one similar in size to this…but it was like a little gardeners potting shelf. Very cute…but this is more useful.

I lead the singing at our church…when I saw my hubby walk in…and the rest is history for us too!!

I wish all the rain that is coming could turn west and head for California!!!
      Thanks Barbara
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Thanks Jeanne for the water gift! We could use it, but ordinarily we don’t have rain until late October/November. No rain during the summer at all. Or rarely. 🙂

  11. What a find! Perhaps for the smaller girls. There are a lot of things you can do with. I think even with fall. These accessories are so much fun.

    1. Hi Paula
It will be a fun prop for my girls… I need to decide who gets to use it first…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, what a great find! I immediately thought wedding.

The little dolls look so sweet and it is definitely their scale.

The uses are endless for this, indoor, outdoor photos, seasonal photos, etc.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
Oh it would be a fun backdrop for a wedding. Maybe I should make someone a little flower girl dress…
      I guess we’ll see..
      Blessings, Jeanne

  13. I like it and it fits the littlest girls perfectly. When I first saw the picture, I was picturing it with some small vines twined around it. I think the trick will be finding something with tiny enough leafs. (Leafs or leaves? I’m not sure which is correct.) I like the Christmas lights idea too! It will make the perfect little photography prop.

    1. Hi Carolyn,
I have some dainty little vines that I think will work perfectly for decorating the trellis.
I hope to use it for all seasons…Valentines day, Easter, 4th of July, summer wedding, fall festivities, and maybe even Christmas..we’ll see.
      Thanks Carolyn
      Blessings, Jeanne

  14. Wow wish I could find stuff like that at the charity shops I go to. I’m trying to get Sam to make some props for me. Not that she has much time these days.
I have started the Victorian ‘Brighton’ from Pixie Faire. Got as far as putting the foundation skirt together but by the time I had been to the hospital to take Sam at 1.30, then collect Greg, get Ashley from school then collect Sam it was 5pm. Stayed in the workroom till 6.20 but then hunger drove me inside.
We have the sentencing for the Australian who killed 51 Muslims in the two Mosques (March 15 2019) in Christchurch this week. Did I tell you that the back fence of my youngest son’s house is the back fence of the Linwood Mosque. His partner Bianca was home on her own that day, Russ was in Auckland working. She had been to the nearby Mall and was walking down the driveway when she heard the shots. She ran to the house and as she let herself in she could see through to the garden and saw someone trying to clamber over the fence. Of course she assumed it was the perpetrator but it was actually one of the would be victims trying to escape. She ran into the bedroom and shut the door and rang 111. They advised her to lock all the doors, lay down beside the bed and stay on the phone. In the meantime Russ was at the airport when he heard the news and of course immediately tried to ring Bianca. Because she was on the phone to the emergency services he couldn’t get through so rang me. I couldn’t help either. When he got back to Christchurch no taxi driver would take him to Linwood so he came here and borrowed my car. Because he lived there the police let him through but at that stage, although they had caught the gunman they didn’t know if he was alone or not so weren’t taking any chances. Poor Bianca has always been anxious but now is much worse and hardly feels she can go out. Anyway his sentencing is today. many people are calling for a sentence of life without parole but it is a sentence that has never been used in NZ before so might not happen. Some want to bring back the death penalty but to me that would be easy to what he has to face. He is a relatively young man, 25 I think, he will spend most of the rest of his life (if not all) in jail much of it in solitary confinement and because he is Australian all his family are over there (and I don’t think they want to see him anyway) I think that is infinitely worse.
Stay safe Barbara and Joy. Here they would say Kia kaha which is Stay strong in Maori.

    1. Hi Anne
You just might be my busiest subscriber… and I wish you could find some time for yourself… it seems like your life could use a little less drama in it…
I hope one of these days you have a whole day to yourself where you can just sew your little heart out!!
      Thanks Anne
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Thank you Anne, I will remember Kia Kaha. Our newspaper carried a story about the Mosque shooting and the sentencing in the last few days. It is remembered here as well.
