My Meadow, Navi, is doing a little modeling…

All my girls like to model their new dresses for you, but some, more than others. Navi is one of those “others.” She likes being in the limelight and always says, “take this, take one more, how about this?” We had a fun little photo session, but I think I see something I might have to change.

It was almost midnight when I was taking these pictures, so I used my flash…

I think her skirt is too full. I didn’t notice it before I added the rick rack, but when it was added, it sort of made the skirt lay in folds and dips… I think I’d rather have it a little less full and lay more like a pretty skirt instead of a square dancing dress…

Anyone else agree? Because it’s so small, I don’t think it will take that long to fix… but you never know…. :o)

I made a decorated a little gold felt jacket with some buttons of the same colors as in her dress…

Also, I made a pair of green Ultrasuede shoes to go with it. They’ll look great when I use the leaves for her final pictures. We might have to have some “fallish” thigh highs for those cooler days.

I still have things to do, but I hope you like it so far…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, it’s darling!! I love her jacket, and the tiny shoes are just adorable! I do like the rickrack trim on the skirt, too.

I have a suggestion: Make her a petticoat for under her dress! Quicker than redoing the skirt, and it will hold the skirt out so nicely! And….she really Could be square dancing (children do square dance, as young as 6 or 7), or her dad could be a caller, and she dresses up to go with her parents. When our son was in a square dance club years ago, the caller and his wife had a little girl, and she was often dressed in a square-dance style dress/petticoat if she went to the dance or lessons with her mom and dad! Looked so cute!!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I still debating on what to do…my day has been full so I’m just now getting to my sewing room. I’ll have to look at it again and decide.

Whether I take it apart or not, I’ll probably make her a little slip.
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. This has turned out so cute! The little buttons really mimic the polka dots. Tiny shoes and jacket make it extra cute!

I have 2 silk fall leaves garland that I put up when I decorate for fall. My fall decorations didn’t amount to much. That’s part of what lead to the pumpkin making. I’m looking for some tiny foil leaves that are on a foil wrapped wire. It’s another type of garland. Of course, I’ve seen them in the past. Now when I’m am actually looking? HA. I’m also making some pumpkins out of books. We still had a pile of Son’s outdated college texts. Ordinarily I would cringe at the idea of defacing any book. These are engineering, physics, calculus texts. Isn’t bothering me in the least! One I started cutting pages with a box cutter but that was killing my finger. Now I’m folding. Very time consuming but easier on my fingers. I’ll send some pictures when I am done.

My brother and parents came on Monday. My mom always brings her chocolate chip cookies. Man, I have eaten soooo many!

    1. Thank you Julia,
I’m glad you like how I did the buttons.
I think I’ve seen some fall foil leaves Garland at Hobby Lobby, but not positive.

I’ve seen some fantastic designs from folding books. I used to make the folded Christmas tree from a catalog, but never any of the more fancy designs. We’d love to see it when you are done.
      Oh yum… Chocolate chip cookies…what a great mom…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Very sweet. I’m with Charlotte on the slip. Then her tiny legs might show a bit more. Navi would look cute posed on top of a pumpkin. She’s too cute.
Can’t wait to see Julia’s pumpkins made out of old books. Your sister made such a great wreath from the old music pages and my neighbor used an old book to do the same. Such great recycling.
We may get some sprinkles tonight. Yay, won’t have to water. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
I’ll decide here in just a little bit what I’m going to do…
I have some little pumpkins I might use in my final pictures… I did buy something “sweet” to go with this set.
      I hope you get your sprinkles… :o)

  4. Sew sweet! I agree with you a little less fullness for the skirt. I compared Baileys last outfit to this one for Navi and although either way is too too cute, I prefer a little less. If you have felt scraps how about adding kitty cat ears to a headband or something. Kids seem to love wearing things like that. How did you finish the edge of the jacket? I assume no hems? Can’t wait to see what you decide.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
Thanks for your opinion on Navi’s dress…I’m going to figure out what to do shortly.

I like your idea of the kitty ears…they ARE very popular! :o)

Instead of doing a blanket stitch around the edges like I usually do, I just used some lime green thread and stitched about 1/8th inch from the edge.
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. A wooden dowel, some craft sticks and a hunk of hemp cord equal a fan rake. At least in my imagination. The girls wanted a fancy rake, so I bought the colored craft sticks. I haven’t made it yet but laid it out like I wanted it and it looked kind of cute. I searched the internet for ideas but the only fan rake instructions I could find for a doll were for a Barbie and I really didn’t like it.

I love Navi’s dress and think a petticoat might work well to solve the dilemma. The jacket is adorable with the buttons matching the dots on her dress. And the shoes! So tiny and so, so cute. Navi would look really cute with a headband of kitty cat ears. My granddaughter has several different headbands. One is a unicorn.

Definitely want to see Julia’s book-page pumpkins. My friends daughter made her a huge one out of old books. Beautiful!

    1. Hi Barbara,
I hope your rake turns out like you imagine in your mind. The only thing I could think of was maybe a Barbie or Skipper rake.

Think I’m definitely going to make her a pair of those kitty ears on a headband. They sound really cute.
Thank you for your compliments on what I’ve done so far.
I’m hoping Julia gets her pumpkin book done so we can all enjoy it before the end of the month.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Love, love the jacket! Everything about this is looking great. Too full? I’m good either way but you know your dresses!
A pumpkin from old books? Cannot wait to see that!

    1. Hi Kathie,
Well, you are the last one to comment, so I guess I’ll have to get in there and decide what I’m going to do…
      Thanks so much, Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne
