And now we are on Friday…

Maybe you thought it was going to be:

Friday’s Fashions for Felicity… or

Friday Favorites… or

Friday’s Famous Fashions… or

Friday’s Fanciest Fashions… or

Friday’s Fairest Faces… or

Well, I think you get the idea… I could go on and on… but back to that title… “Fabulous Fabric Finds…” Instead of an AA meeting place, I think I may need to find an FF (Fabric Fetish) meeting place…I may have issues! :o)

I looked up Fetish and the definition says:

1. A form of sexual desire in which gratification is linked to an abnormal degree of a particular object, term of clothing , part of the body, etc.
“Victorian men developed fetishes focusing on feet, shoes, and boots.”
Maybe you’ve known someone who had a “shoe fetish!”

2. An inanimate object worshiped for its supposed magical powers or because it is considered to be inhabited by a spirit.

Well, neither of those were quite what I had in mind, so I wrote my own definition…

3. A collection of something, such as fabric, that you just can’t resist, BECAUSE you love fabric… you love to touch it, and see if it’s soft or stiff; look at it and see if it’s a “clear” and precise print; dream which doll will wear which print, and visualize it all stacked neatly in your fabric cabinet! :o) I’m hopeless, and I’m the first one to admit it.

Oh well, this fabric and sewing machine repair store in a nearby town was going out of business after 25 years and my Aunt Bonnie said they had LOTS of fabric left. Saturday is their last day! You had to buy 6 yards minimum off the bolts or what was left on the flat folds. I only bought flat folds… only about 38 yards! (FETISH) (FETISH) !!!
The fabric was $1.75/yard and my hubby said I could… :o) Don’t you love it when you GET PERMISSION to buy more fabric?

So do you want to see what I got?

Great things come in BIG bags!

I’ll show my boning first… this is what I use to make my crinoline hoop slips stand out. There were 19 yards left in this box…(he measured it for me) and said I could have it for $8.00. Score!

So this is my stash… apparently I’m drawn to blues and pinky/coral prints! :o)

Starting at the top…

Next…this fabric is SUPER soft!

This next fabric is almost like a lawn… very soft and semi sheer. It looked so cool I just couldn’t resist.

My only Christmas piece…

Well, I’ve done enough damage for the month… there weren’t many dark prints…or Fall fabrics… so I settled for some pretty Summery and Spring ones.

Well that’s it for my Fabulous Fabric Finds. Hope you enjoyed seeing them.

I’ll have to see if I can end up Saturday with something fun too! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Wow, you really did get some Fabulous Fabric Finds!!! I’d be in heaven for sure, finding stuff on a big sale like that!!

That tiny blue/white print–the second one in your stack–would be perfect for the smaller dolls, like Ten Ping and Navi. I was pointing that out to Gigi (Ten Ping’s friend) and she insisted that She liked the pink and red floral (lawn-type) better–even though the flowers might look a trifle large on her. She insisted, “I will Grow, mommy!” (Frankly, I’d be tempted to use it for a summer nightie for myself!)

Looks like Addy will have a new gown soon–that aqua/brown print looks perfect for her! And maybe Kirsten will get one of the blue ones? That seems to be “her” color.

The “Christmas” one….not sure it’s really Christmas, as my monitor shows it more of a turquoise and orange-red, rather than green and true red. Of course, I know that our monitors aren’t always real reliable with color!

You’ll have to be sure to remind us when you use one of these fabrics in a new outfit!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I think I was there about 2 hours…looking and looking and trying to find the “best” fabrics for my girls.
That second fabric is the softest one in the lot…except for that very sheer piece.
It’s really nice and will make some great little doll dresses.
That aqua and brown was dubbed for Addy as soon as I saw it! Guess we’re thinking alike on that one.
I hope to use one of them pretty soon…
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Dear Jeanne, hello. I love your fabrics. My favorite is the second blue with the little flowers.

Question from a non-sewer/crafter: why did you show the yardstick? Does that mean something with the print?

I know that most people who sew have a stash of fabric. If you do start FF, I am sure that the group will be very large (laugh).

    1. Hi Dorothy,
Your favorite fabric is one of my very favorites in the lot. It’s so soft and will make very pretty dresses.
The measuring tape is laid across the fabric so you can see the scale of the print…so you can see if it will fit your doll’s body.
I should have a sideline business of selling fabric…I do have some I need to get listed.
I could open up my own fabric store…so why did I buy more fabric…it all goes back to that fetish…🤪
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Oh, what lovely fabrics and prices. I too love the blues. That tiny flowered print on white is my favorite though. Any of the girls would look lovely wearing that one.
I think the reddish daisy print would be perfect for a cute Valentine’s Day dress or even a 4th of July summer dress. With it’s red, pink, and even pale blue there are lots of possibilities there. Oh, I wonder how that daisy print would look with the tiny blue flowers on white. I love mixing prints. 🙂
Thanks for sharing your Friday Fabulous Fabric Finds.

    1. Hi Joy,
Well it looks like I made a good choice when I picked up that blue and white fabric.
I thought that sheer flowered print might look nice with a tiny check added to it or even a layered skirt with the check peeking out underneath.
It was my pleasure to share my fabric finds today. Glad we aren’t a “judgemental” group here!!! :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Jeanne, love the stash you found, you really did good! I know you showed the ruler for size but when it is enlarged, it is hard to gauge the size. A ruler by the first stack of all fabrics would have been more understandable to me but I am from Missouri so you got to Show Me, lol! Congratulations on your Freaky Friday Fetish Finds!

    1. Hi Sandra,
I might have to show my tape measure by the whole stack…”just for you!”
Where do you live in Missouri? My sister lives in Sptingfield…
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Yes, Sandra, where in Missouri do you live? I live in St. Louis, more like
South County, Mehlville. We should get together sometime, if you live close!

      2. I live in Columbia, MO which is about 2 hrs East of KC and about 2 hrs West of St. Louis, MO., Along I-70. We have a lake house on Pomme de Terre Lake which is about 50 miles North of Springfield, MO., Up highway 65.

  5. Marti Wulfow Garner

Your fabrics are all fabulous and always to scale. I personally would love for you to do some Chanukah dresses. I would definitely buy then in any size.

I wouldn’t call it a fetish. I would call it an addiction. I have three addictions, yarn, dolls, and books. I have so many unread books in all formats (hardback, paperback, ebooks, and audiobooks) that I haven’t read, yet I still buy more. I have so much yarn that I don’t think I will ever be able to use it all. Dolls, what do I need to say, one never needs dolls, Dolls are purely a want,.

    1. Hi Marti,
I think you might be right about the “addiction” word…I just like the word “fetish” better. It seems kinder!! :o)
I am just about like you…I love books, especially cookbooks, fabric and dolls. I don’t have that many dolls but do find myself looking at them as much as I can.
I do have lots of yarn too…and sm trying to teach myself how to crochet doll sweaters.
      Thanks Marti,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Great choices
If you don’t use all of them you could always make a quilt ☺️
Nothing like a good sale to get that stash enlarged a bit.
    Have a good weekend!

    1. Hi Kathie,
Just what my stash needed….enlarging!! Oh brother! I really am hopeless!!!
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Wouldn’t the reds and the blues look good made into three-layer gathered skirts? Even mixing them might look good since you have so much of each fabric. Just a thought.

I’ve finished a bodice for the ruffled red petticoat, making it into a skirt, and will start on making something with the small piece of sparkly red fabric. I think I’ll measure the size of the piece before cutting it to show how little fabric it sometimes take to make something. Thanks again for the inspiration.

    1. Hi Susette,
Yes, I DO have plenty of most of the fabrics… it’s almost embarrassing!!
I have plenty beside what I just got that will work with them too!
The pictures you sent me are just wonderful, Susette!! Molly is definitely going to be the belle of the ball no matter where she goes in this!!
I’m SO glad you are sewing again!!! Think of all those years you missed out on sewing!! :o(
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Here I finally am, Jeanne! Late again! I have been getting my dolls ready for school, so that’s my excuse!

You certainly did have fun picking out more material for your stash! Do you put newer pieces on the back burner and use other fabrics first?

I didn’t think that red-orange and turquoise piece looked like a Christmas fabric to me. It is more like a school dress for Molly!

Am I imagining it or is it true that I am seeing more new names commenting lately?

    1. Thankfully my girls don’t go back to school until the day after Labor Day. That’s always when we went back and I decided to keep that. And it gives me some extra time to get some dolly back-to-school clothes made.

    2. Hi Linda,
Oh goody…you have your dolls dressed for school…or at least you are working on it.
      Pictures coming soon, everyone!!! :o)

Most of the time my newest fabrics just get mixed in with the other fabrics, but it generally catches my eye more because it’s newest in the stack… I guess we’ll see.

The thread in the red and green fabric is pretty sparkly so I just assumed I’d call it Christmasy…

Yes, you ARE seeing some new names…I’ve gained some new readers and some are starting to feel comfortable enough to start commenting!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. What a find! I know I would have been sorely tempted. I just can’t seem to say no to fabric. I filled one of my shelves with fat quarters and then told myself I had enough until I could use up some. Then fabric.com had a fat quarter sale and you know how that went. I got some really interesting, unusual fat quarters that will make wonderful dolly outfits as well as quilted items. I’m using one of the pretty speckled prints for a blouse for Dell to go with her gold faux suede skirt for back-to-school. I’ve been sewing like a fiend lately to hopefully use up some of my fat quarter stash on summer clothes but I’ve ended up also creating a pile of remains that can be used for parts of other summer things. But then I keep every little scrap figuring it will make good contrasting collars, pockets, plackets, etc. I read once where a seamstress threw away any fabric left after she finished an outfit. How do you do that??? Must be a flaw in her character, keeping it all sure can’t be one in mine (lol).

I seem to have the same addictions as Marti. I always planned on having a library but that hasn’t happened. In the meantime I have accumulated so many books that I’m having to go through them, read the ones I really want to and pack some away. I’m a physical book addict. Hubby has a Nook and that works for him. He reads several books a week. I read every night before bed for as long as I can stay awake. Yarn has become a real problem for me. I remember the old days when if you wanted to crochet something you went out and bought 4-ply worsted and it worked for everything. Not at all today, so I have tons of that. I’m also a pattern addict. I have so many crochet patterns that call for lighter weights that I haven’t used yet because I’ve been trying to use up the 4-ply worsted I’ve already bought. Been making a lot of afghans lately.

Kathie’s suggestion is one I’ve been telling myself lately. I could use up a lot of my stash on quilted items – if the girls would stop wanting new clothes all the time. But then there’s a lot of them clamoring for new wearing attire and I do so enjoy indulging them – and me. I have some really cute patterns for quilted table runners, etc., that would help lower my stash considerably. I need to give a few days to that every now and then.

My favorite of your new fabrics is the lawn-type fabric. I love that weight although I tend to not sew much with it. I just don’t make many dolly outfits that require it, i.e., dressy dresses, filmy summer frocks. I also like the last one. Love the color.

    1. Hi Barbara,
Anyone who sews would have been tempted and could have done a LOT more damage than I did. I don’t do that very often… it’s a good thing! :o)

What? Throw away fabric scraps? That should be illegal!

I do have a fair amount of yarn too… I need to be more productive with it in some way!

I could make lots of things with my scraps too… quilts and all sorts of soft fabric crafts, but like you, my dolls keep me too busy! :o)

I’m glad you enjoyed seeing the new fabrics today. It was a bit embarrassing and exciting a the same time to share them.
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. What a good deal you got! I guess we all have fabric fetishes, but I know you will use the fabrics, so no problem with buying more. Like Charlotte, I thought of Addy when I saw the brown and turquoise print. It will be perfect for her. I think my favorite is the last one. I do like coral prints.

    1. Thank you Carolyn,
That brown with the aqua floral just might be a great Fall dress…and next month IS September! So who knows?
I’m glad you enjoyed the prints!
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thanks so much Joy,
Apparently your mom loved fabric as much as I do, huh? I would like to come over some time and just “see” what she had in her stash…
      Thanks Joy,
      blessings, Jeanne
