Hi everyone,
We have had the best time visiting with my sister, Cindy, and her hubby, Tom. Cindy and I decided to go to some Antique places who were celebrating with Holiday open houses. It was very fun, just us two, stopping where we wanted, looking at what we wanted; we laughed, shared ideas, GOT new ideas, ate a bite of holiday goodies at each place, drank some Wassail, and just enjoyed each others company. I LOVE Sister time!!
We only bought a few things, but one of my favorites was a chair for my Mae doll to sit in. I had been looking for one… I will have to take a picture of it tomorrow… it’s too late tonight… and I forgot the picture.
We went to a place in a nearby town called Rosebud Antiques and each booth was filled lots of things. So… my post today is actually going to be a test…
Remember, Kristoffer gave me his old phone, a Samsung S22 Ultra? My old phone was a Samsung S9, which was actually pretty old and sometimes the pictures I took in antique shops were blurry when you zoomed in. I wanted to see how the pictures I took with this phone turned out… so here are a few today… maybe you’ll see something you used to have. I’m hoping my pictures are so clear you can read the sale tags!!
If you click on any picture it will enlarge.
I will see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, what fun, Jeanne! Wish I had a sister to have “sister time” with, too!
In the very first photo, on the bottom of the floor just slightly to the right of center, is a blue and white cookie tin (white figures on blue); my mother had a very similar, smaller version of it. I found the base of it, but couldn’t find the lid, so I pitched the base. Yup, later on I found the lid. I took it home, and I think I’ll hang it on the wall, maybe on one of those plate hanger things. It’s really pretty. (I sure wish I’d set the base aside until I knew for sure I wouldn’t be finding the lid. Oh, well…)
The swelling on my foot has gone down quite a bit, and I think it won’t be too much longer before I’ll be able to wear regular shoes on that foot! I think my good Land’s End slipper will be the first one it will fit, as it’s quite an open style and yet has good support and a non-skid sole.
Charlotte, I am so happy to hear that your foot is much better. I found the blue/white tin and glad you have at least a piece of your memory. I have not had time to look carefully at everything yet, but I always love to look at antiques for things I used to have. I have seen quite a lot.
So glad to hear your foot is improving each day. Getting closer to back to normal and I’m sure you’ll be glad of that.
Dear Charlotte, I am glad that your foot is better now. Hopefully by Christmas you will be able to get around with ease.
Last night we went to the in Jacksonville, FL to pick up Ronny, my older son at the airport. We live one and one half hour to get there from our house. We got home at 11 and went right to bed. Now we are up and getting ready to go to the y, leaving at 7 45. Tired. His brother, Tommy, will rent a car when he arrives tomorrow night, thank goodness.
Jeanne, I always wanted a sister, and enjoy reading about your fun with yours. I will look more at your photos when I get back home.
I’ve always thought your photos were fine, but — wow — are these clearer. Now we can pick out what we want and you can make a return trip with a list of 200 items to purchase and a truck to carry them in — you’ll have a new business as an antique buyer.
New problem — Linda in St. Louis has been locked out of the blog. That happened to me and you quickly fixed it. Linda and I are SS (sofa sister) friends and have each other’s email address, so she can tell me and I can tell you. If a reader doesn’t have a SS friend and gets locked out, what can she do to be reconnected? Could you put the info in an easy to locate place so anyone having problems can find it easily?
excellent thought. what about the ability to email Jeanne?
I am glad you are able to let Jeanne know. 👏🏼 Hi Linda.
I, too, have a dear SS (Sofa Sister) friend and we have each other’s emails, but just emailing Jeanne should work.
Hi Linda! So sorry you got locked out like I did last week. Wonder what’s up? I know Jeanne updated my info and I also cleared my entire history, cookies, and cache and that fixed the issue.
I have Jeanne’s email which I was glad to have when I had a problem with accessing the blog.
Happy Monday dear friends,.
Jeanne, this shop is neat and tidy. I love those coffee/tea mugs with the flowers. Wow they are adorable.
Well, yes the movers came on Friday. We are on the east coast so all of the movers were from… I think they said El Salvador. They were nice guys, very cheerful. When they spoke together I could not understand a thing they said. not one word, and I do know about 12 spanish words.
Anyway, yes the house is crowded. I put some things away, but I went to bed tired on Friday, Saturday I went to Home Depot to get some dirt and mulch.
I did some work in the front garden. We really barely have a yard but I am making peace with this down sized transition.
Hubbs had every single Hirsh Shelving unit moved to the new garage here and I think we have about 7!!! all in the garage and not all full but that is okay. Sunday, yesterday I woke up a little bit sick ?? headache really scratchy throat, dry sinuses, but I do not think I had a fever. I was kind of miserable all day.
This morning I feel better, perhaps using a lot of saline nose spray last evening helped … still I better take it easy today. I can still feel some misery in my right sinus and a headache. We do not have a humidifier in this new house so I will dig up our portable one that is quite good.
Charlotte, Oh I am glad your swelling is going down. I know it is frustrating. I hope with all of the “rest” you have been able to address some things you did not usually have time for (cleaning up computer desk top, emails etc) Gosh you could start your Christmas cards now!!
Our house looks cozy and in some places, crowded, but I am not stressing.
I hope this is a good week for all of you. Sissy, yours is going to be very enjoyable.
Rosemary, I hope you feel better today and more so tomorrow! Resting helps!
Yes it is lovely to have my sons here but instead of being here to work around the yard they have organized that family oyster roast, and both of them had to bring their computers for work. Still, I can get hugs.
If your condition persists, check for Covid. Didn’t have a clue that both other person and I had Covid until I was reminded by someone on the group to test. I had the sore throat and sinus. Hope you are better soon.
Glad that Jeanne and Cindy had some fun sis time. The photos look good to me. and when I enlarged, they look even better. I would love to see the prices on the old canning jars on the bottom shelves in photo three. Maybe if Jeanne finds others on her rounds she can take a look? We have many of the very old ones that are collectible now. My parents in law were collectors. And that milk glass pitcher and glasses, probably for lemonade or iced tea, at the right in the same photo are lovely. In the fifth photo, on the shelves on the left is a long pink plastic thing. It looks very familiar and I think might be something that came with a Singer sewing machine? Maybe even mine. Anyone remember? On the next photo, amongst the toys on the shelf on the right, towards the bottom is the Fischer Price A-Frame cabin. It looks to be missing part of the fold down front, but I’ve always wanted one. I also had the FPrice barn set for our girls. In fact, it was one of the older models. I even sent to FP and ordered all of the missing animals. It was packed. I sent it to my parents house so the girls could have something to play with there when they visited. Next time I saw it, it was in the hands of a dealer at one of our garage sales. So sad that my mother sold it without asking me. Oh well. In the second to the last photo on the right is the holy grail of a lot of collectors. A ceramic lighted Christmas tree and a very large one too. I wonder the price on that? Well, that was a lot of fun this morning. Thanks Jeanne for sharing.
Around here we had over an inch of rain last night. It poured. Probably going to rain more today. Yesterday, we hit our third appliance store and checked out more. I think that we have decided on a dishwasher and refrigerator. Well, until we got home and found that the largest model would stick out a few inches more than what we have now. So, we’re planning on the next one down which is basically the same. But, we can’t find a range that we like. I do like the one we have now with a double oven below and the dials are on the back and very readable with lots of lighting. Almost all of the new models have very cheap funky dial handles and the lighting isn’t great. There was a lovely one that I liked, however, it’s cooktop has no edges on the sides to prevent spills from rolling off and down the side cracks to who knows where. Ours has that splash guard all around. The one I like is a great stove except for that one problem. The maker says that the design is new and supposed to be a seamless transition between the stove and countertops. Well, not around here or in most homes, we all have different countertops. I doubt that many would fit flat at all. All I can think of is spilling some spaghetti sauce and watching it roll over the edge and probably back under the glass. Some company actually makes splash guards to put on to bridge any gap, but they look really funky. So, not sure about the stove yet. Microwave would then have to match the stove, so we can’t really look at those until we make that stove decision. I want to look at the GE again at BBuy. They have the most models of all the big box stores on display. I think I have an appliance headache.
So sorry to hear that Linda is locked out. I wonder what happened? I had that happen recently because I accidently used the name that came up and not my usual. Kindly, Jeanne, reinstated me. I’m sure that will work.
So sorry you lost that FP set. I know they’re just things, but I , too, get a bit sad when I see something I remember from my grandparents house that is now gone due to the second wife auctioning things off willed to us without our knowledge and then vanishing.
My great-aunt had one of those lighted Christmas trees. I loved it. We got her beautiful German tea sets and other pretty things. She gave that to her brother which of course was perfectly fine with us.
I can’t imagine all of the lovely things your grandparents had, but glad that you have some of the things.
I have one of those lighted ceramic Christmas trees. When I saw the picture I tried to figure out how old mine is. Well I’ve been married 46 years in January and bought it several years before we were married. I hadn’t thought about that before.
That’s great you have a tree. I’ve seen many displayed so nicely on a table at Christmas or even now. Lucky you.
I, too have a Lighted ceramic Christmas tree. Mine is white and was given to me by my first husband’s mother. She said she made it in a class. This would have been around 1967. I still have it and used it when ever we had grand-kids sleeping in the house. We used it as a night light.
Joy, I am with you on the loss of your toys. My mom got rid of a lot of things when I went off to collage. So sorry about your animals. I hope you get your appliances figured out soon.
I hope Linda gets back on the sofa soon.
Oh, I’d love to see your white tree. I’m sure it is lovely displayed for the holiday. Maybe even for your Thanksgiving bash? 🙂
Yes it’s always fun browsing through antique stores, especially at Christmastime. I see something right off in the first picture that we still have!! That Mushroom canister. My grandparents had the set of four Merry Mushrooms from Sears on their kitchen counter. The colors of theirs were a bit different as they had brown lids and differently painted mushrooms. Then I see Depression glass and further down some Fisher Price Little People sets. I still have my five sets from childhood and all the pieces except four letters from my village. Now those are vintage!!
I also see German beer steins. Unfortunately, the ones my grandfather had we did get in time.
Hi Laura, Jeanne and Sofa Sisters!
I couldn’t write either unless I piggy backed on someone else’s reply- yes, it’s me Laura!! So sad second wife got rid of your things!! Not nice.
I too always loved the FP toys. My grown up boys still have theirs packed away in storage…. Among other childhood toys.
Jeanne, I’m glad you had such a great time with Cindy. Doing what you wanted and just spending time with your sister.
Nothing better than that.
I’m curious about the 2 dolls dressed in blue on top of the book shelf? I don’t recognize what type they are?
Here are ones like our Merry Mushrooms. Wow, they are valuable now. LOL

Should be didn’t get the beer steins.
That is great that you have those canisters. I’d love to see a pic. 🙂
Glad you had a great weekend. Great pictures and so clear even when magnified. I don’t know if my Sofa Sisters know this and I may be preaching to the choir, but you can right click on the picture and get a drop-down menu that includes “more tools”. If you click on this it will give you another list where you can magnify the picture greater than just clicking on the picture in the blog. Then you can click on the + button and zoom in and you can actually move around in that mode. I found all this out when I was searching for the items for the scavenger hunt. It’s almost like being there. Well sort of.
Oh dear! We must get Linda back quickly. Holidays are coming up and we need our Linda celebration fix. It just won’t be the same without all the different era dolls in their lovely wearing attire.
The concert went well yesterday but I’ve really got to do something to get stronger before our next concert which will be early summer next year if we decide to do a dinner concert. We rehearse and perform at a private school, and the gym will be in use during the spring and that’s where we perform when we have our dinner concerts. So we have to plan for a date after school is out. Because it’s the 250th anniversary of our Country and we’re doing a patriotic concert, we really want to make it a big celebration, and a dinner concert is always great for that.
I spent a half hour this morning with my rowing machine. I did 15 minutes rowing, five-minute rowing cooldown and then filled the rest of the time with stretching exercises from the rowing library. I found out I have none. Stretch that is. Something else I need to work on.
Wow, you have been active. Great on that rowing machine. I would be a failure on that one. 🙂
Great photos! Love looking at those old items and wondering about the people who used them🤩
Hi Jeanne
I did find something in your photos that I actually have in my basement right now. In the first photo, on the floor sitting next to the white cabinet is a stack of tins. The one I have is like the blue and white one that has pictures of Greek statues all around it. when I was a kid, living in Birmingham Alabama, my dad worked for wards Bakery, Every Christmas he would bring home a delicious fruitcake in a tin like that. My grandmother used the empty tin to hold her buttons and other sewing supplies. Those tins were beautiful when they were new. It was fun to see it in your photo.
Dear Jeanne, I am so glad that you and Cindy had a nice time. Thanks for sharing a bit of your adventures with us.
I just had time to check out the photos and saw some, Mr. Potato Head, some books I have read, and the ceramic Christmas tree we were talking about before. I had fun making them bigger and going through them. Thanks, Jeanne.
