Linda’s dolls dressed for Fall and “Holiday Helper” is listed on Ebay!

Hi everyone and Happy Friday!

I just wanted to get a quick notice in here that I got Rebecca’s Civil War dress listed on Ebay… I still wanted to go outside, but my hubby was mulching the last of the leaves on the ground and it was still a bit windy… I just decided to take a few more pictures inside and go with what I had.

I debated about making it a Buy It Now, but I think I have “just enough time” for it to make it to someone’s house before Thanksgiving. It will run for the normal 5 days, and end on Tuesday the 18th. I can get it to the Post Office that night if necessary because of where it might be heading… and then it will have 8 days to get to the winner. I can even mail it Priority if need be.

Here is a link to the listing on Ebay… or you can click the picture at the right side bar.

~ Holiday Helper ~

Here are just a few more pictures…

We’ll take a short break in the slideshow of my archived Fall doll dresses and show you what Linda has been up to. She never disappoints and you know why… because when she dresses her dolls, she shows so many DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS! You’re going to love these dolls all dressed up in such pretty Fall fashions!

Jeanne, while you are biding your time trying to figure out how to finish the latest dress, here are some pictures of my dolls in Fall clothes.
Here are Cecile, Kirsten, and newly named Susette! Yes, I changed Sara’s name to Susette to honor my dear friend!

Jumpers for the 40’s girls! I wanted to have them doing something, but after all the Halloween costumes, I was too tired putting everything away, and besides you wouldn’t see them as well. All except Betsy’s are American Girl.

Remember this one? This is Felicity’s brown church dress, that was so difficult to do, and didn’t turn out as well as I wanted. Yes, I made this, can’t you tell? To make it is one thing, and to make it to fit is quite another!!
Only if you want to use these. I know you will be having company soon.

The modern girls are going out to the ballet for the evening! Scarlett in the center, is wearing the new AG Janie and Jack outfit, Ivy is wearing an outfit I put together, silver skirt and furry sweater, and Emmy is wearing a snow white dress with red touches and a beautiful sweater knitted by a special friend!

Love to you,
Linda💕

See, I told they’d be sweet! Thank you again Linda…

Well, I will see everyone Monday… Enjoy your weekend… It’s supposed to get up in the mid 70’s this weekend in Southern Illinois.
Blessings, Jeanne

Congrats on getting your latest masterpiece listed on eBay, Jeanne! It’s really lovely. And the Ferrero Roche’ candy–one of my favorites!

Linda, I so enjoyed your pictures of the girls ready for Thanksgiving.

Is the dress Kirsten is wearing one of Addy’s? I think I actually have that, too. It really looks nice on Kirsten.

That is so sweet, that you renamed Sarah after your friend Susette. It really is lovely.

I have always loved jumpers, and it’s nice to see so many of them in this photo shoot! I especially like Molly’s.

Your modern girls look so festive, ready to attend the ballet! Lucky them!

  2. Linda in St. Louis

How sweet that last picture of Rebecca’s dress set look! I love the layout of the hat, top, skirt, little basket of goodies, and that Ferrero Roche’ candy! Just perfect for Thanksgiving or fall! So glad that is finally listed!

Yes Charlotte, that is Addy’s Birthday dress that Kirsten is wearing. Since I don’t have Addy, she gets to wear it and it suits her very well. Cecile also has one of Addy’s dresses on.

I aways loved jumpers on little girls, and that is Melody’s jumper that Molly is wearing. I actually bought that recently although it has been available for several years from AG. It is actually a tad short for a 40’s girl, but I can pretend that Molly is going through a growth spurt!😊

Renaming Sara Susette was something I wanted to do to remember her by, as if I could ever forget her! She loved Ruby Red dolls, so this was appropriate.

Thank you for the compliments! The girls are liking them!😊

Have a nice weekend, everyone! A warm up is in store for a lot of us!

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Linda, how lovely that you have named one of your dolls Susette. What a sweet way to remember one of our dear Sofa Sisters.

Isn’t it amazing how friendships have blossomed just by us sitting here on Jeanne’s sofa?

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Dorothy! I thought at first maybe I should buy a new doll and name her Susette, but then Sara looked at me and I just knew she should be the one. You know now that goes!🥰

    2. Barbara in SE Texas

I love the talk of the weather. Here I would love if we could get a cool down. At least one that would stick around for a while. I’m still wearing my summer clothes.

    3. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Linda. as always your dolls are dressed so sweetly, I love each group, and I am so pleased that you renamed Sarah to Susette. I do like the church dress too, especially the hat.

      1. Linda in .St. Louis

Thank you, Sissy! Felicity’s hat is actually
Elizabeth’s Riding hat. I bought a plain one off EBay and put a flower on it! I thought it worked well with her dress.

A big congrats to Jeanne on getting the latest listed. Great photos too. And the treats in the basket are a wonderful idea. So perfect.
It was nice of Linda, to share all of her girls ready for fall outings. Sara makes a perfect Susette. So glad that you have chosen her for the honors. Her kitties are so sweet. And we switch to the pups and jumpers. I absolutely love jumpers too. They are adorable on the girls. Felicity’s church dress is so fallish and a great style. Linda, did you make it? I was confused. I really like the contrast of the whites and the dark brown. The modern girls are all spiffy. Great outfits and I especially like the tights. No more little girl socks. Very with it. Emmy’s sweater is lovely. Lucky girl. 🙂 Thanks so much Linda and Jeanne for sharing.
It looks like the rain has finally stopped although, it is very wet outside. Hope we can get in a walk.
We’re stuck on appliances. So many bad reviews and breakdowns not long after purchase. And will they match? The big sales are only for a couple of weeks. Yikes, better figure out this mess soon. I’m hoping that we can switch to looking at flooring. But, what kind and color? I think other person wants vinyl planks, but it looks so modern. I would prefer engineered wood, but that is a nail down. So, hopefully, we can look more this weekend. All of this is going to mean a lot of moving stuff and that is not going to be fun at all.
Have a great weekend everyone. 🙂

Hoping you can find some good appliances. We have been lucky at that but all ours except the washer, oven and large freezer are 25 years old. They made them better in those days, I think.

      1. agree. Better stuff.
In my new house, everything is with an LED panel and a lot of peeping and signals I have to look up to find out what it means.
The builder provided all Samsung. I do miss my Whirlpool fridge at the old house (very much😢) the other appliances are just okay. I still can’t figure out the microwave but I did print out the instruction manual. I have not read it.
Our washer and drier we chose ourselves from Lowes. We got Maytag.

        1. Joy in northern CA

Maybe you can bring the old Whirlpool to your new place and put the Samsung in the garage for extra stuff? Just a thought. Isn’t it crazy that they don’t include instruction manuals anymore? I’m very old school. 🙂 I believe that Maytag is highly rated for W/D. 🙂

      2. I think the problem is that now, appliances are not lasting even 10 years. I’ve heard of them going toast in three years. So, we’re rethinking everything.

    2. Maytag is a reliable brand. Some whirlpool, if they are not made in China.
Regarding floors, some of the “LVP” planks are not too bad. I do like the old style too, you mean the old kind called “Bruce” flooring?
We have laminated vinyl planking or something like that in our new house.. It is nice.
      Good luck with the upgrades

      1. Joy in northern CA

Well, we have old hardwood from 1949, under carpeting, but it would need to be refinished and some areas are missing as we have changed out doors/old heater etc. So, don’t know if that is even feasible. Of course, we’d have to move all of the furniture and pull up the carpeting/pad first. Not a fun job. Still thinking.

    3. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Joy, Yes, I did make Felicity’s dress, and it was pretty difficult for me to make, considering the material itself was slippery and thentrying to get it to fit was difficult too, since it shredded a lot when removing stitches. I should have known better than to use that material, but it is what I picked, so there’s that! Never again! I too, loved the contrast of the white lace and fichu with the rich deep brown. It is a dress from her stories, so that’s why I made it.

Good luck with picking out appliances! They all have pros and cons, and don’t forgetthat the service you get from the store is important too!

  4. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Joy! Yes, I made Felicity’s dress, can’t you tell?😊
It’s actually fun to dress the dolls in different timelines, you never get tired of just one kind of outfits, and I try to keep up with today’s clothes too.

    Good luck with everything!

  5. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I love the pumpkin color of the ensemble. I am sure that some American Girl will be proud to be a Holiday Helper this season.

  6. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Jeanne, have a wonderful line with Cindy this weekend. Also glad you got your lovely outfit on ebay and I see it has a bid already. The food in the little basket looks so good to eat it makes me hungry!

  7. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

We just got back from town where our church Bazaar is going on. Ever year there are so many Christmas things you just wonder where they came from! I made a Strawberry cake for the first time. I hope someone buys it. I never saw more beautiful Christmas glasses in my life, 2 for $5.00. We just don’t need any thing anymore more. I hope they will sell. I have given a lot of things towards it and didn’t see my things there, I guess they already sold.

Y’all have a great weekend, my sons are arriving and more family coming Wednesday for the oyster roast.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Wow, oyster toast and Thanksgiving too. I’m sure that the events will be wonderful, but a lot of work. 🙂

  8. Barbara in SE Texas

Congrats on getting your beautiful ensemble posted on eBay. Such a lovely outfit will surely do well for you. And who can resist the candy.

Linda knocks it out of the ballpark as usual. I’ve been so derelict at getting my girls into fall clothes. The L’il Dreamers are still in their swimsuits. But that might be because several of them need fall clothes and I’m really behind in my sewing. I finally got Anaelle out of her Halloween dress and into her new fall dress. I always enjoy seeing dolls in jumpers and Linda’s girls all look so lovely. I really love the one on Molly and Betsy looks as cute as ever in that adorable jumper outfit. Out of curiosity, a jumper to some of our sofa sisters is actually a pullover sweater. What then is a jumper dress? According to some of my patterns from overseas that would be a pinafore. Can anyone help me out on this?

The girls all dressed up to go to the ballet would that perhaps be the “Nutcracker”? They are dressed perfectly for the occasion. Houston ballet puts on a “Nutcracker” performance every year starting about now and going through December. I’m sure other ballet companies do too. Andrea and Sean attended once with their dance school and they had to dress up for the event. I’ve never been because I don’t like driving in downtown Houston. What a lovely gesture for Linda to rename Sara to Susette in honor of her friend. When I wrote the name the first time it read Sara Susette. I fixed that but that would be a lovely name too. Several of my dolls have middle names.

Linda, I think Felicity’s dress is very lovely. I think you did a great job. And your choice of colors is very nice. I tend to like browns, all shades.

My Chorale concert is this Sunday. It is a combination Thanksgiving concert and dedication to the victims of the horrible flooding in the Texas Hill Country last July 4th and the courageous responders who spent days searching for victims. The parents of the little girl who died from Bellville will be at the concert and we are dedicating a song to her memory. The song is called “You Do Not Walk Alone” by Elaine Hagenberg. If you get a chance, listen to it on YouTube. I had to sing it several times before I could get through the whole song without tearing up. Not sure how I’ll do Sunday but I think I’m good with it now. I was thinking about retiring after this season but our director decided to do a patriotic concert next spring for the 250th anniversary of our great Republic. I know she’ll have a lot of takers for that one and I want to be among them.

    1. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

You are exactly right Barbara, In Uk (and here in NZ) a jumper is usually a woolen sweater often hand knitted, a sweater is usually more the sporty tops and your jumper is a pinafore.

      1. Marilyn in Colorado

Close. A pinafore is an apron with a top. Example
        https://www.etsy.com/listing/4391447199/eighteen-inch-doll-red-dress-with-red?ls=s&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=american+girl+pinafore&ref=sr_gallery-1-7&frs=1&cns=1&sts=1&nob=1&content_source=efce1fbf-bf78-4ae5-ab78-6f54c3681412%253ALTd8f93dfb4c01975d66f838aed8559cd14b75482a&organic_search_click=1&logging_key=efce1fbf-bf78-4ae5-ab78-6f54c3681412%3ALTd8f93dfb4c01975d66f838aed8559cd14b75482a

It’s worn over a dress. The top often buttons in back, but the skirt is open. There is often an attached sash that ties in back.

An American jumper is like a sleeveless, scoop-necked dress, usually without a waist. Example
        https://www.etsy.com/listing/4373631117/18-inch-doll-plaid-jumper-dressfall?ls=a&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=american+girl+pinafore&ref=sc_gallery-1-1&cns=1&sts=1&nob=1&plkey=LTbaf9c6cbf98560623521d9536308affb300f006f%3A4373631117

The gray dress in Linda’s picture is a jumper. Jumpers are worn with a blouse or a turtleneck top under the jumper.

    2. Barbara, I will be thinking of you on Sunday. My mother sang in just about every chorale or choral group she could fit her self into. She loved to sing. She was in the church choir, the neighborhood choir, and the Annapolis Chorale, and over the years past my parents lived all over Europe and she sang in those groups.
I am glad to know another dedicated songstress.
the dedication is going to be beautiful My heart breaks for those who lose children in tragic events. You are brave and and I know you will shine with the others. I am so happy to know you get excited about concerts!

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

Yes, Rosemary, I love to sing and have sung in choral groups since I was 9 years old. I started in our junior choir at church and then other choirs at churches I attended over the years. Unfortunately I could not sing in the choral groups in junior high or high school due to family demands. One of my favorite experiences was singing with the DuPont Chorus in Wilmington, DE, when I worked for DuPont. I did that for three years until I moved to Texas. There were tons of us since family members could also sing, even if the employee didn’t. We did a wonderful Christmas concert in the DuPont Playhouse and then did our spring concert at Longwood Gardens in PA (just outside Wilmington). My mother and my grandmother would always come to the concerts. I learned so many Broadway tunes from being in the Chorus since that was a large part of our spring concert. Sadly there is no DuPont Chorus any longer and choral singing is struggling to survive. But in honesty I don’t have the energy for it I used to and standing is more difficult these days but I decided to push thru and do the spring concert next year. Then I’ll rethink it. Our director is understanding that many of us are much older than when we started and she’s trying to arrange the program to let us sit at intervals. I will still be in the church choir though. That is not as demanding. I wish I could have met your mother. Sounds like we had a lot in common.

    3. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Barbara! It must only be overseas that a jumper here is a pinafore over there. I just bought a pinafore from Samantha’s Birthday outfit, and it, for sure, is not a jumper!
I’m sorry I missed out on thanking you in a timely manner, since I was locked out of commenting on the blog Friday afternoon.

Felicity’s dress is brown, because in her stories she wears a brown church dress, so I replicated that, or tried to!

  9. Gosh, I am late of course, but it is only 1:00 here in No. Virginia. Whew I am ready to climb back in bed!!!
We had the movers come to the old house, pack up the stuff we wanted (all the big stuff we could not move ourselves) and bring it here to the new house.
    I did not lift a finger but I am p00ped/exhausted. 🥳
Now our house looks like a furniture shop!

    Happy Snappy Friday dear ones!
Jeanne, so glad you have your beautiful ensemble listed. It is a gem and very attractive.
Linda, I love your dolls. They are all dressed so sweet. I love that jumper on the right, greenish with gathers. Also, the dress you made, the brown one is gorgeous! *making and making fit* is always a thing! with dollies and also ourselves. I adore these scenes with the dolls and their outfits. So sweet, exceptional ensembles the adorable purses wow, so cute.
The hat on Felicity is beautiful, wow.
I hope all of you have a happy week-end, and not to windy or too chilly. a bit of sun would be nice!
:::looking around::::: 🧐 oh my…… 👀 I think I will ignore the crowd of furniture and just go up and finish my quilt!

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thak you, Rosemary! That jumper on the right is actuallay a nice, medium blue, small wale corduroy! It is from Ag and is now retired. Although it was for a more modern era, I think it works well with the 40’s girls too. After all, a jumper is a jumper!!

  10. Rebecca’s Civil War dress is beautiful. I love everything about it.
How darling your dolls look, Linda. Cecile and Kirsten are wearing two of my favorite historical Addy dresses (striped and birthday). I wish I had time to pull mine out.
Susette looks very sweet. I see she is already acquiring many dresses for each occasion.
Your 40s girls look very cute. Felicity looks lovely in her brown church dress.
Your modern girls look very nice as well. It’s nice you can still find things from AG to buy.
Of course, I love all the extra little details of pets and other little treasures you always add.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

I’m just now thanking you, Laura, since I was locked out for two days. Oh yes, those, those Addy dresses are favorites of mine too! In fact all of Addy’s drresses are wonderful! Since susette goes from group to group, I am trying to get her some more clothes for each timeline. As far as still being able to get thgins from AG, it is getting harder and harder! Too much modern, and not enough history for me. I know you feel that way too!

  11. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Thank you, Linda, for showing us your dolls. I love the fact that you dress them up so delightfully. I think Felicity’s dress is lovely you did a good job and using the riding hat was inspired, it looks wonderful.
Jeanne I love the outfit and hope it does well.
Barbara, I can talk about the weather lol. After all the rain on Thursday, (and it rained pretty well all day, temp was 13C (about 55F) Yesterday (Friday) was glorious 24C (about 75F), to the relief of the Show organisers. It rained here overnight, quite heavily and is supposed to be fine this morning and rain again this afternoon. I want to get the plants I bought yesterday, in the pots this morning and Sam and I are going to the movies this afternoon to see ‘Prime Minister’. Jacinda Ardern’s husband, Clark Gayford, worked in the TV industry and he started to film everything she did. After she resigned, he has put it all together and made a film of it. I have already seen it and found it very insightful, it also made me realise why she resigned when she did, she never wanted to be PM in the first place, she just wanted to make a difference. I think the country is worse since she left but I think she made the right decision for her. The last few months she was in parliament you could see the weight dropping off her and she was never very big to start with. I saw her recently on the Stephen Colbert show and she looks so much better! I read her book ‘A Different Kind of Power’ recently too.
Well since it is now 9.05 am, I had better get dressed and get some work done.
    Have a great day everyone

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Anne, thanks for sharing information about your former Prime Minister. I did not know anything about her. She sounds like a dedicated and determined lady. I certainly wish her well.

  12. Jeanne, glad to see your lovely Civil War dress has made it to eBay. It looks very beautiful and I love all the treats in the basket.
I hope you are enjoying the visit from your sister and her husband. have lots of fun.
and Linda, it is always so neat to see your girls dressed up for pictures. I really love the dress that you made Felicity. it’s a perfect rendition of some of the ones I’ve seen in Civil War movies. You did a fabulous job.
Thank you for sharing your pictures. I always love to see them..

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Paula! I’m a bit late in thanking you, since I was locked out fo a couple of days, but it looks like I’m back!

  13. Marilyn in Colorado

I love that brown dress. The white sets off the brown fabric nicely, and brown suits Felicity.

The leaves are gone here but we have lots of evergreens, and today the sun is out and it’s very pleasant.

My sister visited Wednesday and was pleased to see six of my dolls in National park tee shirts, each shirt a different color and park.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

I want to see the t-shirts too. I had no idea you could get National Park t-shirts for dolls.
