Hi everyone,
We woke up to snow this morning, but only about 1-2 inches. It didn’t stop us from what we had planned for today.
Don’t get TOO excited over my treasures… they are pretty ordinary, practical and maybe dull to some of you. For me, they were fun to find and a few were things I had been hoping to find.
In the middle of all that chaos at the old Thrift shop, I found some shipping boxes… (See I told you… ordinary and boring…)
Click on the pictures and they will enlarge.
Shipping boxes have gotten expensive, so whenever I can save $$ on them, I do! I got 50 boxes for $5.00!!!
Then I found a sweet little card holder… and I’m planning on using it to put my business cards in.
I had been looking for a stocking holder to use on my fireplace, but they were all too lightweight and the slightest heavy thing put inside them seemed to pull them over or off the fireplace. Well, I found this silvery Christmas tree holder that is super heavy. It’s almost like the weight of a brick…and once it’s in place, it’s hard to move. YAY! It’s really nice and I love it!
Now I need to start collecting little things for my hubby to put inside it! :o)
Now, for my biggest and best find… This is Ellen, from the Kingsgate collection of porcelain dolls…
She is about 20″ tall and is a fairly nice porcelain doll…
BUT… I’m not a collector of porcelain dolls…
HOWEVER, I AM always looking for pretty wigs on dolls, and this wig is fabulous… it’s almost as good as a Monique Synthetic Mohair wig… if you know about them, or have one. This wig is REALLY nice, and I bought Ellen just for her wig… $7.99!
It’s a pretty shade of blonde and would have been ABSOLUTELY PERFECT if it had been a pale or platinum blonde, but it’s still very nice.
I took her wig off… well, actually, I heated her head up around the edges of the wig with a blow dryer and my hubby pulled it right off. Poor Ellen!
I gave her wig to Mae…
Ellen and Mae weren’t speaking to each other in this picture…
It was a tiny bit loose on Mae, but this afternoon, I took a piece of 1″ wide elastic and sewed it to the back section of the wig and it made a world of difference in how it fit. Now I can brush it without is sliding all over her head. I decided it was a lot of hair hanging down, so I braided it…
Mae was kind to Ellen and told her thank you for giving me your wig.
When I told Cory, the manager of the Thrift Shop, I only wanted the doll for the wig, he said, Well, bring her back to us and we’ll see what we can come up with to make her “interesting,” so we all sat around last night trying to think what one of the workers at the Thrift shop might do to her head. The best thing we came up with, was putting a plant down in her head, after removing the black rubber skull covering. I’ll have to keep an eye out for her and see what they do to her. I did keep her shoes too… they fit the American Girl dolls.
After the Thrift Shop, we went to the Goodwill and I only found one thing… but it was very nice. They had a fur Christmas tree skirt, that was as soft as a Chinchilla. It was a lot of fur fabric and the price originally was $49.99 and I got it brand new for $11.00. I didn’t have any fur this color and think it will make nice doll coats. Yes, I’m going to cut it up…
Today we went to 2 shops in a nearby town… one is a Senior Citizen’s Center which has a little thrift shop in the back. Most everything to wear is $2.00, so Rebecca bought lots of stuff to resell!. They had a huge hallway with lots of Christmas items… everything imaginable and I found something to use in my favor bags for the Married Couples Christmas party coming up in a couple weeks. These were donated by a store but I still wiped everything down with disinfecting wipes. They were very clean to begin with.
I got a nice variety of Christmas ornaments and hope everyone gets one they like.
Now, I just have a few fun things to share…
Cindy sent me this on Thanksgiving and it was my FAVORITE picture I received!
Then, Joy sent this to me when she saw the sling I had made for Reuben. My hubby and I both laughed at it…it’s actually pretty clever and would work in a pinch…It’s pretty funny to look at too!
Then I have one more picture. It popped up on my phone and is from the lady who runs up and down the stairs pulling things from here and there and setting up the most wonderful scenes using her Blythe and other dolls. This picture is FABULOUS! I hope you enjoy scrutinizing it! I sure had fun looking at all her accessories and how she set them up.
That does it for this Wednesday edition of the blog…
Hope it brings a smile to your face…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

You got some wonderful and useful things from the various thrift stores, Jeanne. What a terrific price on those boxes!! I like the new business card holder, too, and that stocking holder is just great, being so heavy and all.
Poor Ellen, to lose her hair like that!! š It ws nice of Mae to thank her for it, though. And you’ll have to keep an eye out and see what the thrift store might do to fix her hair situation when you take her back there. Mae does look awfully cute in those braids, I think.
You got a great deal on that tree skirt; that much yardage would have cost considerably more than $11 at the fabric store, I’m sure. Also good that you were able to gather some gifts for the couples do, and at a bargain price, too.
I enjoyed the pictures, too, especially the turkey one!! Thanks!
Thatās nice that you got some snow, Jeanne! Just a little bit can put us in the Christmas mood, as long as the roads and streets are clear! You certainly did find some nice things at the thrift shop, but boy, you have to be eagle eyed to find small things like you did! Wow, that tree skirt will be wonderful for doll clothes! I happened to get a fake fur coat that looked just like that last close up picture of the fur, same color! It was a complete surprise for me from Michael, and just seeing that again brings back some wonderful memories!
At first, I was surprised to see that you bought a doll! I couldnāt imagine why, but now I see; for her wig! I havenāt priced wigs for dolls, since I donāt change my dolls wigs, but it does look like a good fit for Mae, considering what a new wig for her would cost. I think all that long hair is a bit overwhelming hanging down, but it sure looks cute in braids!
The cartoon is cute, and that cat carrier, well, if I could get my cats in them, that would be a miracle! It was a struggle just to put collars on them!
Those ornaments for the Married Couples Christmas party sure do hit the spot! They are nice and small and everyone can use a new ornament!
That last picture is so sweet, and so much to look at! It would be a cute Christmas card too!
Iām still decorating, but will run over to Cracker Barrel to see what cute things I might find there for gifts. They really do have some things there that you canāt find anywhere else. The best part, is there are no crowds to fight when shopping there!
If most husbands are like mine, shopping at Cracker Barrel should be easy. It’s one of my favorite places to eat when we travel, but David says there is no time to look and shop because we have to eat and get back on the road. Funny thing is we have one on the way to Houston and when i am looking for a place to eat if I’m in that vicinity I usually choose Panera forgetting totally about Cracker Barrel. I guess I think that’s just for trips LOL.
Happy Wednesday. How is it Wednesday already???
My hubbs would answer “tick tock tick tock”
Your adventure to the thrift shops was very productive. I love the old doll. I certainly hope someone will take her home now that she is…. bald!
Big win for the mailing boxes though. Huge find. All of those little Christmas signs for the bags. Very good discovery.
Nice you got 2 inches of snow. Good thing you could still get out without too much drama on the roads. Here in Northern Virginia we have a mix of bad drivers and people who can not drive but some how have a license. So it is always vigilant driving.
Yesterday I sewed all day and listened to Christmas music, mostly choral. I also put candles in my front windows.
Today I should try to reach some sort of “goal” with the Christmas cards.
When we went to my sister on Thanksgiving, she gave me an old Flexible Flyer sled she found in her old shed. She bought her house 30 years ago and it was originally owned by a couple who raised kids there, and there were all kinds of old treasures in her attic and the shed.
For example in her attic she had a few stacks of old magazines dated from the 1960’s I think.
I do not think she has them anymore.
Anyway, she gave me the old sled. I have it in my laundry room. I was going to set it up on my front porch with some lights and greenery, but first I have to treat it with some danish oil. That will be a stinky job I could do in the garage. I love doing this but realistically, I should just wait …. so I think I am going to move the sled upstairs to the storage room and save that for January.
Instead, I found some light up stars and some big colored lights to put on the porch.
Today we have sunshine. it is really cold outside though. brrrr
December 3. Let’s get stuff done!
Love to all of you
Loved seeing Jeanne’s bargains. I like Mae’s new wig. Especially, with the braids. She is such a cutie. š Does the dress from the now bald doll fit an AG or is it too large? Maybe it could also be sold? The doll is well, pretty scary to see without the wig, but the folks at the the thrift place will have fun with her I’m sure.
Those cute little items Jeanne, bought for gifts are the kind of things I look for to add into doll scenes. What a fun find. So nice that she has Rebecca and Karn there to visit. I would love to see some of Rebecca’s buys. I’m sure that she has a great clothing eye.
I am amazed when I see the videos and pics of the stair lady’s amazing displays. So many tiny details like the girls on ladders working on the Christmas decorations and all of the fun little doll items. Wow! No idea how she can put it all together.
Not to be too pushy, but I thought Jeanne mentioned that she was going to share some pics that I took of my recent Ruby Red dolls? Maybe lost in the shuffle?
Overwhelmed with flooring, we returned the sample that I like yesterday, deciding to just go for the appliances for now. We did drop by HDepot as I needed a power bar, or whatever you call those things that you can plug in more than one item. That way, the current standard plug now has a flat plug/cord so it doesn’t hit the bed frame anymore. While at HD, we looked carefully at refrigerators once again. Found one that would do, but it did not have the door ice maker which we want or the new hybrid handles. Went home and other person found the same model online, but with the front door ice/water and hybrid handles. See, that model will match the microwave and stove handles we want. The handles not matching have been a big hold up for us. So, we’re coming along on the choices.
We had a nice day with some sun yesterday. Got in our walk without being so cold and standing in the sun was great while talking to our friends along the way. Sun is peeking out again this morning. Yay
Joy, I too, was wondering what happened to your dolls,, since Jeanne had said that she was going to show them Monday. Well, she does have a few things on her mind, and I expect we will see them soon.
What do you mean by hybrid handles? And you found a refrigerator without the water and ice thing on the door? I would love that!
LG calls their new square handles, hybrid. They have them on some stoves, microwaves, and refrigerators, but not all. Yes, there are lots of refrigerators by LG that do not have the ice/water in the door. Go to the LG site and type in refrigerator without ice/water in the front or something like that. And the capacity you want. There are lots of regular refrigerators, French doors, and side by side’s without that feature. š
Hi Joy,
I am SO sorry about not showing your new dolls. You were right… too many things on my plate… I will try and remember to show them tomorrow. I haven’t had a chance to go through my emails and your pictures got lost.
That would be me. Lost in the shuffle. š
I have not been terribly vigilant in checking the blog lately. Always seems to be some interruption or other. I thought maybe I missed your dolls and was going to go back a few days to check. Looking forward to seeing them.
Dear Jeanne, wonderful things to see on the site today.
I love the photo of the dolls decorating for Christmas. Can you share that link with us? I like to see “dolly scenes.”
Only 22 days until Christmas. Wow!
What a great bunch of stuff you found, Jeanne! Everything makes sense. Loved the exchange between Mae and the other doll- glad they had a good talk. Maeās new wig is perfect for her. Itās beautiful and I love the braids on her. All the items you got are great for your needs.
Happy for Rebecca in finding stuff too.
The kitty sling is funny looking but if it helps, thatās wonderful/ someone was kind hearted enough to figure out a way to help an injured kitty. So worth it.
That last picture is fabulous!
And that last ā getting ready for Christmasā set up must have taken a while to put together. So clever.
Days are getting busier this December – crazy busy!!! Just have a bit more shopping but lots of events go to.
Jeanne, I am late today but wanted you to know that I really loved all your photos, the great bargains, Mae’s braids, the cat in a box. I love the stair lady, she shows up on Face Book once in awhile. Can’t wait to see the dolls coats you will make!
So happy for your visit with Rebeca and Karn.
