Hi everyone,
Just checking in with you again today to show you how I spent $1.50. Yep, that was all I spent. We headed to my hubby’s hometown and hit up 2 Thrift shops there. Rebecca found quite a few clothes to resell and I spent $1.50 very wisely. HA!
The shop we were had lots of things and we did find out they are moving to a new, bigger location in the Spring. They don’t have most things priced, but just leave it up to you how much you’d like to pay.
I wanted to try out my phone on a new setting inside a store so I took these pictures first to see if they looked any clearer… Karn had me set the phone on a higher setting for pixels and on my phone the pictures look crystal clear even when you zoom in, but again, I think they look a bit blurry. See what you think of these few random pictures…
I think they still look blurry… do they to you?
I think I will ask Karn tomorrow about how they look when I post them on my blog…
Okay, back to the shopping… you’re going to laugh…
I found this one fat quarter… it’s a piece of fabric generally cut 18″ x 22″ and this one caught my eye. It’s about as vibrant of green as I’ve ever seen or sewn! :o)
Next I found a little baggie of some Christmas ornaments that would be wonderful on a dolly Christmas tree… again, my phone wasn’t working to suit me… some of the figures are clear and some are blurry! GGRRRR!
I spotted an American Girl doll standing on her head in a basket with an Our Generation doll. I wondered who it was, so I picked her up and was a bit taken aback by her face… NOT in a good way!
Poor thing… some little girl must have been trying out mommy’s lipstick on her, but missed where it was supposed to go.
A worker came by and was surprised by me looking at her and said, if you think you can fix her up, you can have her for free…
I wasn’t sure who she was but determined with her brown eyes and her cut off bangs, she was Samantha…
When I felt of her hands and arms I liked the smoothness of them and decided I would just buy her for her hands. When I make my fingerless gloves, I do have a pair of AG arms I bought, but they were from a vintage Felicity and she had the sort of rubbery vinyl limbs. It was hard for me to slip the gloves I made on the hands because the stretch lace would catch on them when I tried to slip them over her fingers.
I thought maybe these fingers would be easier to display the gloves…
So I tried the gloves on her hands and they did slide on nicely… so I decided for FREE, I would take her…
Of course when I got home I had to wash her face and limbs with a disinfectant wipe, and the marks “mostly” came off, but are still a little bit visible. This is she looks like now…
I tried the gloves on her hands and they did slide on nice and easily…
But as I looked closely at her fingertips… it looks like they were held down on something hot and they sort of melted flat… see if you can see it from my pictures…
I was a little disappointed, but things happen like this, so I’m not too worried… I may try them and see if it’s really “THAT” much trouble using the “rubbery” hands… This is my old pair of arms/hands and how I displayed my gloves when I had them on Etsy.
I’ll see…
Okay now for something else to share… so many of you liked the picture from Dolly Treasures, and I thought I’d add her webpage which tells a little bit about her and how you find her pictures. She is phenomenal at dolly art!
If you missed it yesterday, this is the picture everyone liked so much! INCLUDING ME!!
Click this link to find about Eileen Lam…
NOW… I am so sorry I got busy and missed getting Joy’s dolls shown when she sent them to me and even TOLD you I’d show them on Monday. They are SO adorable lined up and it makes you want one of each for yourself.
These are mostly recent dolls that have joined us here. Maybe you can guess who they are? If not, I’ll list the below. 🙂
I love the little Trader Joe’s tiny bag that is the perfect size for the Ruby Reds. It came with a tote bag for real groceries folded up inside. The suitcase is from Target. Everyone is so excited that December, will be here tomorrow! Yay
Joy
Somewhere are Thomas, Christmas girl 2021, Zoe, TR(Tyler/Russell), Ruth, Esther.
I will see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Yes, Jeanne, I think your pictures still look blurry when I click on them. I hope Karn can help you figure out the problem, either that or you might have to go back to wherever you bought it, and see if they can help.
That really IS a bright green! I’m not sure if I’d make an entire outfit of it, but it might make a nice accent (for trim or whatever) to another piece of fabric. And the tiny ornaments are just darling, and the perfect scale.
That poor dolly!! She looks much happier since you cleaned her up! To get remaining stains, try an application (or more) of Oxy 10. You want to get the plain kind, NOT the tinted. Dab it on and let the doll lie in the sun for a couple of days, then wash it off. Repeat if the stain isn’t completely gone.
So nice to see your dolls, Joy! I have Russell, the original one, and I just love him. Of course, mine told me almost immediately that Russell was his middle name! His first name is Nolan.
Linda, I think you mentioned Cracker Barrel in yesterday’s blog. You are so fortunate to have one near you. Our closest one is over 300 miles away, in Idaho!! (I’m in the Seattle area.) I do love to shop at C.B., as well as to eat there!
That’s great you have the original Russel aka Nolan. He’s a great doll. 🙂
Jeanne, the pictures from the thrift shop couod be clearer, but they aren’t really that bad. I have see you post pictures that are clearer than these, so maybe a little tweaking g could help. The pictures of the ornaments look really good to me, and the close uo of the green material, but the other picture is a different green altogether.
Poor Samantha! I cannot imagine why parents allow their children to deface or trash those dolls, or even why a girl would do that! Surely at the price of those dolls, they could learn to treat them better! I can’t remember doing that to my dolls, even at a very young age. But then, I only got one doll a year, at Christmas, and now little girls get dolls at the drop of a hat, it seems! But she does look a lot better now, and she works out fine as a hand model. I don’t think her fingers are that noticeable, and after all, people are looking at the gloves, not the hands!
Joy, your dolls look so cute lined up on the deck! Which one is new? Did you make all those outfits? I love the red one! I can’t imagine doing a scene like this here now, since my dolls would be freezing and wet from snow! That little bag from Trader Joe’s is darling and the suitcase reminds me of Molly’s plaid suitcase. Now to get all of them around the Christmas tree!
Yes, Charlotte, I have a Cracker Barrel about 2 miles away from my house, and did I have fun there yesterday! Everything Christmas was 50% off, so I got a lot of little things I needed bought, a d best of all, I used Cracker Barrel gift cards, and paid nothing! That’s the best way to do your Christmas shopping!
Yes, I’m still in St. Louis! I hit the enter button accidentally before I wrote my city!
Actually, all of the dolls are new except for the Christmas girl in the red. All of the outfits are original to the dolls. No sewing by me here. I’ll tell everyone that you liked their pic. 🙂
Happy Thursday everyone. I hope today is a good day for all of you.
I have a list of things to do…
Jeanne, I love your photos, yes they are fuzzy.
The cameras on our phones are very fancy, so they will take perfect photos…. I need to read the instructions some time.. you know, learning. I could maybe do that while treadmilling.
Okay, I am so glad you took Samantha home. What a poor thing. Oh my gosh, doll abuse. So tragic and for me, traumatic!!! It is great that the owner found a compassionate shopper to save her.
What an interesting shop.
Joy, your dolls are precious. They have the happiest most content faces, so loved, and their clothes are sweet. I love the shoes too. Gorgeous hair. Oooh I want to hug them.
Gosh, this month is busy, I really need to lay out a plan so I do not miss things I should do.
I did write some Christmas cards! and put some lights on the front porch.
And I ironed the edges of my quilt top when I am lengthening it (a big job but all of the blocks are complete now) I will take the quilt top to “craft club” today and show it off and then tend to the seams, some coming apart at the points I had to remove the portions… I can get some photos and mail them to Jeanne when I get home later. I will bring my sewing bag and my “travel trash can” 🗑️😄 (a little zippy bag)
I hope all of you enjoy a happy day. Good idea shopping at Cracker Barrel, Linda, We have one very close by. Last time I went there I had a huge cinnamon roll.
Cracker Barrel gift cards sound like a fun gift too.
Charlotte, I hope you are wearing sneakers with ease now.
Love to all Rosemary
Thanks so much on the dolls. Ruby Red makes amazing outfits, I think. 🙂
I am, Rosemary! Every day this week. The only ones that still feel a little tight are the newest ones, which have laces that don’t start as far down onto the toe section, so it’s more snug there.
I think the pictures still look a little blurry. The brown baby doll on the left in the third picture looks interesting. I wonder what her face looked like. I like how the leaves are presented in your new material. They look 3Dish. Poor Samantha has been through a lot. I can see her wounds on her fingertips. It is nice you rescued her. I love that picture full of dolls. I bet she had a lot of fun making it. And Joy’s dolls are beautiful. The suitcase reminds me of Molly’s, but I think hers has less red on it. Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks Karen. I’ll let the dolls know you liked their pics. I agree that the Target suitcase does resemble the AG one for Molly. All the dolls want to take it on their next travel adventure. 🙂
OH! and Thank you Jeanne for sharing Dolly Treasures link.
How adorable!!!
When I first read about increasing the pixels on the phone, I wanted Karn to pop right over here and fix my phone too. Mine takes great clear photos when viewed on the phone, but when I send them to my computer or someone else, the sharpness turns into well, unsharp. But, it doesn’t look like this will work for me either since Jeanne’s recent photos are still blurry to me. I think Jeanne may attach her photos directly from her phone to the blog? Mine, I do from my computer so I can enlarge them to see them better. I haven’t seen much difference when I attach them directly from the phone either. Somehow the resolution drops and it shouldn’t. Never did that when I used my trusty Nikon camera, now collecting dust. Any ideas here??
As to poor Samantha. What a hard life she has experienced. If I were Jeanne, I think that I would send her off to AG and have them give her some new arms and a new wig. Or, maybe Jeanne has enough parts to repair the arms herself and buy a new wig. I wonder what year she was manufactured? I always liked Samantha. Such a lovely doll. 🙂
I think the ornaments are sweet. And hopefully, Jeanne has a tiny tree for them. Maybe she can find a place to put the tree near her models in the sewing room for them to have a merry Christmas? And I love the green fabric. Almost any green is a favorite of mine. Is the background color black or dark brown? Can’t tell. I’d probably make a dress from the green for the Ruby Reds and blend in the background color as an accent. Would be a fun project. 🙂
Where’s Laura? I’ll bet that she can name all of the dolls in the row. 🙂
Spent a lot of time yesterday trying to track down a photo of the inside of the freezer section of a French door refrigerator we like. Finally discovered that the model without the water in the front and the one with it in front have the same size freezer area. Yay. Still very concerned about those that who would deliver and install. So many horror stories of those that manage to mess up a new appliance when delivering or trying to install. Third party delivery and installation people. Even local stores no longer have their own crew.
It is only 37 here this morning. But, it’s going to be sunny and hopefully, warm up soon. 🙂
Joy, thank you for sharing your dolls, they are adorable. I love how the larger boy is standing on the suit case…maybe he wants to feel taller? They are all lovely, I can see why you collect them.
Thanks Sissy. I think Tyler/Russell does want to stand out with the girls. 🙂
I have found myself commenting on the wrong day so some of my comments may be lost with the passage of time, but I haven’t commented on your comment of the other days so I will here. The reason I think GE will be better if it’s made in America is because we have better quality control (usually) than some other countries. My oven, microwave/convection oven and cooktop are all GE and so far so good even though they probably weren’t made here. Thanks for sharing your lovely dolls. I haven’t bought a new larger RRFF doll for a long time. I’m so running out of room for the larger dolls. I tried to order Mini Stella but she was sold out.
I’ve looked at so many appliances that I’m totaled. If you look at Consumer Reports, the LG’s do well. Lots of complaints about GE and others as well. And yes, maybe making them here will improve their reliability. I do like their styles though. As for dolls, there isn’t a spot left here for dolls or their boxes. They still do seem to sneak inside though. 🙂
My TV is LG and I love it. So your dolls order themselves. The very thought of that terrifies me. It’s bad enough the ones I have know where to find my debit card so I never know what is going to show up around here.
Dear Joy, what lovely dolly children you have! They are so well mannered to stand nicely and have their picture taken.
I have a question, though. Where did you send Other Person when you took the photo (laugh)? Maybe it was to a big box store, or the supermarket, or the cleaners. Inquiring minds want to know (smile).
Thanks for sharing. I love seeing my dolly nieces and nephews.
Well, other person was making a run to the store, so I quickly loaded up my flat box lids and carried everything outside. Finally, it was dry enough on the bench to get some pics. I was also amazed that no one moved or blinked for the photos. 🙂 I’ll let them know that they did well. 🙂
Dear Jeanne, thank you for sharing Joy’s dolly children. They are adorable.
Thank you also for sharing the link to Dolly Treasures.
Your “new” American Girl doll is lucky that you found her so that she can receive the much needed TLC. Maybe if you don’t think you can use her, she can be a gift to some little child if she isn’t too damaged.
Yes, the photos look a little blurry.
Poor Samantha! I can’t imagine why a girl would do that to a doll. I never would have thought of cutting doll hair or putting makeup on them. Of course, girls have more dolls than we did back then so they aren’t as special. The only “doll” that ever got makeup was my Barbie styling head with the free Avon items.
All your new dolls look lovely, Joy. Thank you for sharing all your latest successful dolly capers. The little bag and suitcase are perfect props. I really like Holiday doll in red. Actually, from the RRFF chart she’s from 2020. Stella or Bella and yours must be re-wigged or another in that dress? I wasn’t looking too closely at the dolls yet although I do remember Holiday Sara (loved her) and Valentina.
You are right. Holiday Bella is from 2020. I have her red/black wig which I removed and replaced with something more to my liking. The two tone hair isn’t for me unless she wants to wear it with an elf outfit or something for Halloween. It is in perfect condition though, should I want to replace it. In order from the last photo left to right: Holiday Bella 2020, Thomas, Ruth, TR/Tyler Russell, Esther, and Zoe. You were right about Bella’s year which I looked up and still didn’t get it right. Ha ha
More thrift shop pictures. Yay! That green fabric is definitely GREEN. But I like it. Great find on the ornaments. I have a small “dolly” tree and bought tiny ornaments for it, but I forget to put it up. Probably tuckered out by the time I finish my tree and village, and I can’t seem to get the dolly girls to do it on their own. Poor Samantha. I can’t believe someone mistreated her so terribly. My daughter had a Kid Sister doll she decided to “enhance” her facial features not too longer after getting her. At that time I didn’t know how to clean up the face of a doll. Have no clue what happened to her. Andrea didn’t much want to keep any of her toys.
David went yesterday and got our new computers. Now I need to make an appointment so the Geek Squad can come out and install them for us. Since we have mine at the house and David’s at his shop and we have a Geek Squad membership it makes sense to not have to deal with this ourselves.
I don’t think the condition of Samantha’s hands is not all that noticeable. I think she would be a fine glove model.
Thanks for the Dolly Treasures link. This woman is totally amazing.
Today our high was about the time I got up – 51 degrees at 8 a.m. It’s been going down since. And it’s raining off and on. Brrr
Congrats on the new computers. I think, if you ask, that the Geek Squad can transfer all of your photos and files to the new one for you. We didn’t want to pay the fee to have it done when we bought ours, so will have to figure it out ourselves. Well, maybe. 🙂
Yes they are supposed to transfer all that for us. Our Geek Squad membership had expired so David renewed it.
Joy your dolls are lovely, I love all their outfits.
Jeanne I’m amazed at how you clean up the dolls. Samantha looks better already. I would be happy to have her even with her melted fingers since AG dolls are incredibly expensive here, if you can find them. You certainly won’t find one new and buying one on line costs more in postage than the doll itself costs. We just get the Our Generation dolls which aren’t nearly as nice.
Got a busy day today. Meditation then Delta lunch this morning then this afternoon I have to make cheese rolls for the Patchwork Guild Christmas party tomorrow. I will send a picture since they are very hard to explain. They also make a terrible mess when I’m making them! but they are worth it and usually are all eaten though they are better hot than cold.
30 C today here, too hot!
Stay warm everyone
I’d love to see a pic of the cheese rolls. Sound yummy.
TKS on the dolls. Wish I could sew like their outfits, but didn’t make a one. All came with the dolls. 🙂
