The Thrift Shop does Christmas!

Hi everyone,
Rebecca and Karn hadn’t been to the old Thrift Shop since they added on the second building… (more room for more junk) so we decided to go there.

The Thrift Shop had a Christmas room with lots of vintage stuff, so I took some pictures of it and some other shots too.

This will be a good test to see how my phone takes pictures with SO many things in one shot.

Ready? I hope you can enlarge the pictures and find something fun you would have bought.

Oh rats… I don’t think my pictures are very clear. I need some help from Karn or Rebecca…

It is entirely too late for me to take any pictures of what we got, but I’ll try to show you tomorrow.

See you then,
Blessings, Jeanne

What a lot of fun you and Rebecca and Karn must have had, browsing thru that Christmas section of the shop! I was able to click on the pictures, but the usual little enlarge/minimize buttons weren’t in the upper right corner like they often are. However, I was able to enlarge them somewhat with my computers zoom feature.

I’m not sure I saw anything I would have bought, but I’d have liked to have gotten a closer look at the little doll in the box on the far left of the third picture, next the the kneeling wise man in light green. She looked kind of interesting to me.

I finished my turkey stock today, so I think all of my turkey “stuff” from Thanksgiving is now taken care of, and just in time for the garbage to go on Wednesday! Some of the stock will go in the freezer, and I added things and made soup for our supper tonight–Daniel and two of his friends had dropped by. Nice to have an easy meal that was almost ready to serve by the time they got here!

Oh, Karen, I commented on your reply on yesterday’s blog.

Thank you for the message, Charlotte! That is neat you had an Advent wreath, too. That is nice that Daniel and his friends came to visit you. One of my mother’s brothers is named Daniel, too. The kids’ school was canceled for today because of the snow. It was piled high on top of the van, but I’m not sure how much we got. Some of the kids and I brought in a lot of firewood, so we should be set for awhile.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, Jeanne. They sure do have a lot of things at the store! I bet that was fun.

Good morning, Jeanne! Did you get snow last night or yesterday? We did, so roads are not good and most schools around here are closed. However, I have enough to do with decorating for the holidays, so I am content to stay home.

Your pictures turned out pretty well, although some are not as clear as others. But oh my, what a lot to see! I don’t know where to start when looking at all the treasures, and I have a lot to do today, so will close for now.

    1. We were to have snow over night but woke up to pouring rain. we are in Northern Virginia. My daughter lives in Richmond Va and they are getting very heavy rain!!
I forgot about decorating…. I was going to sew all day, but I guess I will put the candles in the windows.

  3. Oh these pictures are great Jeanne, what a MESS!!! hahaha
I would love to have a little shuffle through this shop, what a massive pile of treasures.
Goodwill shop up in Leesburg, Virginia has a terrific shop – huge. I have not been there in ages.
I am glad you took Rebecca and Karn for a fun diversion for sure!
Good morning dear ones. Tuesday already. On December 8th I will officially be 71. Or as my father would say “you are really just starting your 72nd year”
I hope I get a card from my estranged daughter…. that is all I want.

So much to do now, cards, presents… I am expanding my Under the Maple Tree quilt top so I am sewing more blocks.
My upstairs sewing space looks kind of messy.
I hope everyone has a productive day. πŸ₯°

    1. Dear Rosemary, I do hope you get a card and I also hope you are not offended by what I feel I must say. Are you absolutely certain your daughter isn’t in an abusive situation? Control takes many forms. My undergraduate degree is in psychology and I volunteered on a help line and later did an internship at a battered women’s shelter. We had women who had escaped whose family knew nothing of their home life and just assumed they no longer wanted contact whereas what they wanted was help. My own paternal aunt had to leave with her two children and the clothes on their backs and no one knew until she managed to escape and call from a neighbors. She lived close to another aunt and uncle (her sister and brother), but always had to make excuses why she or they couldn’t visit. I am just concerned.

Happy birthday for Monday Rosemary. You share your day with my Dad, he would have been 104.

Lots of items in the Christmas area. With my eyes, even enlarged, most of the pics were a little blurry. I didn’t see the dolls Charlotte, mentioned. I’ll look again later. I couldn’t find much from the 50’s, which I usually like, but did like that vintage round framed window. That could be a statement piece. I wonder about the price? And under the poor deer, there is a cute little red chair that I liked. Were prices good for items? I’m such a bargain hunter. Glad that everyone had fun, and I’m looking forward to seeing all of the purchases. πŸ™‚
When we went to Walmart the other day, I found a cute ornament. Sort of a window scene with tiny things glued inside. Even though their prices have jumped up a dollar on ornaments this year, I still bought it. Thought it would be cute with the Ruby Reds for a holiday pic. Of course, I haven’t started on anything new for them to wear yet. Way too much time being spent on kitchen appliances.
Yesterday, I finally convinced other person to stop by a floor store. Found some luxury vinyl that I like. Brought home a big sample that I’ll return in a couple of days. Learned a lot more about different flooring types too. But, other person is not enthused. Drat! Of course, it does mean that we would have to remove all the layers of old floor to get to the subfloor before we can put in anything new. Yikes, lots more involved than I really want to deal with at the moment.
Very cold again this morning, but surprise, I can actually see the sun coming up this morning. No fog. Yay! πŸ™‚

Hold off buying your appliances, Joy, I just read where GE is moving from overseas to Kentucky. Hopefully that will make a difference in quality and longevity. A few years ago David and I bought some shelves for our garage. They were made in America and went together without effort and all the pieces were there. It does make a difference.

The problem with GE is that it is owned by Haier which is a Chinese company. That is the appliance part of GE. But, being made here might help them. I do like the looks of their appliances though. πŸ™‚ TKS

I have been decorating all morning and more to go. I gave in and we bought a fake tree. For the first time in my life we didn’t go to the tree farm and cut a tree. We had gone from a 9″ tree to a 4″ to put on a table, but it has just gotten to hard to deal with, a stand, watering, and cedar trees, which we love, are prickly. The fake one has lights already and is so easy to handle. We have LOTS more things that came from my family and have sweet memories. I have been putting them out all morning in the living room. Next will be the mantle. I think it would be fun for us to send photos of our decorations!! I would love to see some from Y’all. My poor dolls don’t have Christmas outfits, I sold all the ones I sewed.

Jeanne,I loved trying to find things in the thrift shop but it was difficult. I did see several dolls in boxes and no boxes but I really couldn’t see them well enough. That big elephant was so funny and the poor deer head was sad except that I am not fond of deer. We have so many around here I have to spray “Deer Out” to keep then from eating my plants.

We finally got some rain last night, I hope we get more today. Have a great day Y’all!

  6. We easily received four inches of snow. Luckily the plows were out early and the roads were cleared so one of my kitties could still go for his exam and vaccine.
I’ll come back later and do a run through the shop.

I said yesterday it was in the 50s here, it was actually in the 40s all day. No wonder the boys were not happy about having to put up the Christmas lights. But David needs them for other things today when it will be sunny and warmer.

Now I know why I don’t visit thrift shops. I’m sure I would walk out with a ton of stuff I really don’t need but seemed I did at the time. These days it seems I buy mostly for my dolly daughters. I got a notice from Target (twice) that if I didn’t use my card it will be cancelled. I usually only use my Target card as an extra card when we travel and even though we are not doing much of that these days I really didn’t want to lose it. So I checked out the website. Their clothing sizes were not sized right for me, I didn’t need anything for the house but I needed to get something so I checked out the doll items and bought a couple props for doll pictures. A set with two Adirondack chairs and a fire pit, a cafe table and chair set and something else I can’t remember offhand keeping the cost low. When the stuff came it looked like I had been Christmas shopping for a little girl.

Now for the underbed light. I always feel there are things under my bed that shouldn’t be, like dead bugs, especially those horrible tree roaches that Floridians call Palmetto Bugs. When I see one in my bedroom I want it gone but if it runs under the bed I can’t get to it. Well they don’t like the light so if I put the underbed light on maybe it will run out again. Or maybe I like the underbed light so I can make sure there are no monsters lurking under there.

Has everyone upgraded or replaced their computers due to the obsolescence of Windows 10? We have had our computers so long they probably can’t be upgraded so we are going to buy new ones. I always have a problem with this. I can save what I’ve done on my external hard drive but all my programs are going to have to be reloaded. I really don’t need this hassle at this time of year but hubby has made it his mission. He doesn’t involve himself in the preparations for Christmas so he doesn’t understand how much I don’t want to have to deal with this right now.

Quick rehearsal this evening for the Chorale singing Christmas Carols at the bank tomorrow. Since our Chorale concert was before we sing at the bank this year we will not have any of our special music to sing so David is going to join us for tomorrow’s songfest.

Both of the computers here do not have enough space to add Windows 10, so we bought new ones. However, we’re still using the old ones for now. But, we do need to get the new ones all set up soon. Takes a lot of time to do that. Well, at least it does me. πŸ™‚
I just spent some time putting in a new bar electric outlet thingy that required getting under the bed sort of. I would have loved to have had that under bed light. Of course, then the dust bunnies would have objected. Must do more vacuuming. πŸ™‚
