More dolls in an antique booth…

Hi everyone,
My sister, Cindy, sent me a few pictures from an antique booth where dolls were being displayed. She thought I might be able to use them and she was right! So here you go! See how many you recognize! Thanks Cindy!!

Thanks everyone… have fun looking these cuties over!
See you Monday!
Blessings, Jeanne

I’m having a great time at expo but am pooped so this will be quick.

There are some familiar dolls in the first picture, but my brain isn’t kicking in at the moment. I think the biggest one is either a Sonja Heinie doll or maybe a Mary Hoyer dressed as a skater.

Second picture has several 8″ Madame Alexander dolls, including, on the 2nd shelf, a newer Red Riding Hood! I don’t recognize anything in the 3rd picture.

    Heading to bed!

Jeanne, like Charlotte, I think the doll with the skates is a Sonja Henie doll. The doll in the blue dress looks like a Mary Hoyer doll to me. Mary Hoyer dolls have those tiny lips, and you don’t see that with the So Ja He is doll. The other doll on the left could also be. Mary Hoyer.

I see Madame Alexander storybook dolls in the next picture. They haven’t changed very much through the years. Now tney are vinyl, whereas the ones I got from my grandmother when I was small were made of porcelain. I remember my Little BoPeep with her organdy dress. Sadly, she didn’t survive in a household with four little girls!

In that last photo, the baby doll looks a lot like my Betsy Wetsy, but on enlarging the picture, she doesn’t seem to have an opening in her mouth for a bottle. My Betsy Wetsy had a hard head with molded hair, but a vinyl body. Did she ever get a workout with water!🤣

Crazy weather we are having! Today, a high of 71, tomorrow cooler, and Sunday through Monday, a wintery mix of rain and snow! Next week, all rain. Mother Nature cannot seem to make up her mind!

Linda, I too had a Betsy Wetsy, and she too had a lot of water treatments. I haven’t looked in some time, but she is still around here as far as I know. 🙂

I do not k ow why seceral letters in my words don’t come through! I must not be hitting the letters hard enough, but I do check them and they are there the first few minutes. Hopefully people ca. understand what I am talking about!

I had Betsy Wetsy first. She had that soft glued on hair. Maybe mohair? I still have her, but her body was the rubber stuff that descentigrates, so I have her wrapped with gauze. She needs a new body, but I’m not the one to replace it.

The dolls are lovely, but as I was older than those except perhaps a couple of the babies, they aren’t known to me that well. I do remember Mary Hoyer from a lady in the doll group we used to have. All but about 2 of our doll group were older that I!! They finally quit the group and that was the end of that.

Our company will be here soon, I just hope they won’t arrive while my hair is still rolled up!! I hope they brought warm clothes, this is not Florida where they live!

Jeanne, still praying for you and George. God bless and keep you both.

  4. Jeanne, thank you and your sis for sharing these pictures. These dolls are beautiful. I do not recognise any of them… In photo number three I am a little worried about the doll being sat on with only the yellow boots showing. She must be crying a lot.
I love the skating doll of course. Picture number two, I love the babies. the one on the right looks so happy! That must be a Little Red Riding Hood in the cape. I love everything on all of these shelves. This is a great antique shop.
I hope you and George have a restful calm week-end – with sunshine to keep your moods bright.
All of you, have a happy week-end. I will finish my doll clothes and make some photos of Glitter Girl Emilia in her fancy sweater. I have not made doll clothes in a long time and this was a perfect time to make some cuties to go with a fashionable sweater!
    Love to all of you.

I recognize the Madame Alexanders. I always thought they were the cutest. The mention of Betsy Wetsy reminded me that, at the last moment, when all the presents were bought (and all the money spent), my youngest sister decided she really, really wanted a Tiny Tears. It was just too late — probably Christmas Eve. The next morning, when she opened her present from an aunt who didn’t send Christmas presents, there was her doll.

I need a new storm door. Probably black. If anyone has advice, I’d be glad to hear it.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

I don’t think there was a Tiny Tears when I was little. My dajghter had one though. Betsy Wetsy came first I am pretty sure. I just loved giving her her bottles of water! Can’t remember how many times I got in trouble for getting water all over the place while feeding her?🤣

Marilyn, we got our storm door from Lowe’s. We are very pleased with it. Do you have a Lowe’s nearby?

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Forgot to mention that it is a Pella storm door. Tney also make windows. They are a very well known manufacturer and not cheap, but their products are excellent t!

A big thank you to Jeanne for everything. I kept hoping that we would hear some good news yesterday, but it was understandably an extremely long day. I wonder if they stayed the night or were able to drive home? Regardless, I hope that all went well and that we perhaps will hear some news later.
Here, the sun’s peeking out, and it looks like a lovely day ahead. We hit 71 yesterday. So pleasant for a change.
Earlier this morning before sunrise, I opened the back slider and quietly called for Callie Cat. No answer. Then, I saw something move under the deck table where she often sits and waits. No, it wasn’t Callie Cat, but it was that crazy racoon. I only had a brief glance before it headed perhaps under the deck. Now, I’m going to have to go out later with a strong flashlight and see if it is making a home under there. Hope not. Then, I opened the front door, and Callie Cat was standing there pacing on the porch. Humm. I think that she had also seen the racoon and decided to stay in front. Too much wildlife around here.
It was so nice to see all of the lovely doll photos that Cindy sent. The older dolls of which I’m not versed, appear to be in wonderful condition. Maybe they are from a collector. I love the Little Red in the second pic and the cute pups. Isn’t that picture of the baby by Pease? Can’t remember her full name. And I recognize the pink polkadot box on the bottom shelf. I had one in blue that my Alice doll arrived in when I was almost five. 🙂 Thankyou Cindy and Jeanne for sharing the fun photos.
Thanks again Jeanne, and wishing George well.

Dear Jeanne, I am enjoying looking at Cindy’s photos. I will tell my doll club members to take a look as well.

Well, tomorrow we say “au revoir” to February and “bonjour” to March. Black History Month ends and Women’s History Month begins.

As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence this year, I want to reflect on the contributions and sacrifices that women made. I am going to see if my doll club can create a “dolly tribute” to women.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Oh, that club idea sounds like fun. Pick a woman who has accomplished a lot and then dress a doll in her honor? Or something like that. I’d love to see pics if it happens.

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Joy, thanks for your comment. I already called our Club president. I am going to raise the idea at our next meeting. I am thinking that libraries and museums might be interested in having displays. We just have to be sure that the dolls are in locked cases.

        1. Joy in northern CA

Yes, definitely cases and locked. Used to be that things could be put out and displayed in a library and no one touched them. Now, I guess not so much. Rather sad.

  8. Barbara in SE Texas

I was wondering if the doll in the third picture where her face doesn’t show might be a Shirley Temple doll. She has the curly hair (albeit a bit messed up) but she just seems to have the look of a Shirley Temple. Wish I could see her face.

    Praying for Jeanne and George.

    1. Joy in northern CA

I had to go back and look at the doll and I agree she could be Shirley. She has those ringlet curls. 🙂

  9. Hi everyone,
I thought I better get on here and let you know my hubby’s surgery was successful… I haven’t counted, as I’ve only seen a quick peek, but he’s got a line of staples on his stomach about 8″ long. Things went well and he is feeling okay. His pain is under control and I am happy to report we are back home now.
There was something going on it seemed like every single minute and other than texting people about his progress, I wasn’t on my phone much.

We were absolutely exhausted when we got home this afternoon, and as soon as I got him settled in his recliner, I went to bed. When I woke up it was dark and I had to go close up the hens.

We are just so glad to be home and now the recovery begins.

Thanks everyone, for your love and prayers…
    Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Joy in northern CA

Thanks so much for letting us know. You are the best. And I’ll certainly be thinking of you both as the recovery progresses.
Stay safe. Eat healthy. And get some rest.
      Thinking of you both.
      Joy

    2. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, you and George remain in our prayers. Take good care and get the rest you need. We can just talk among ourselves here on the sofa.

Happy start of Women’s History Month on March 1!

    3. Thank you for taking time to update us. It’s wonderful that having had surgery he is home already. Rest up are the orders for both of you.
