I hope you like dolls dressed in RED!

Hi everyone,
Today’s post is being brought to you by JOY! She sent me some pictures and I thought they were TOO sweet not to share!

From Joy:
I thought of Paula when I saw all of these dolls in one big group on Ebay. If I had a place for them, I would probably try.
Have fun looking at all the details!
Joy

If you click on the pictures, they will enlarge!

Then Joy sent pictures of her Ruby Red Fashion Friends enjoying Lunar New Year… They are gorgeous!!!

Thanks Joy!
Let the chatter begin!
Tomorrow is something from my sister, Cindy!
Blessings, Jeanne

It was fun to see Joy’s pictures tonight! On the Scottish dolls, in the first picture, I see two Effanbee’s (the ones on the stands), ns I’m pretty sure the girl in the tam (2nd photo) is a Ginny.

I agree with Jeanne, Joy–your RRFF boy dolls are gorgeous!

Jeanne, I am praying for George as he has his second surgery–and for you, that you will be able to stay calm. There is always a Lot of waiting!

    1. Joy in northern CA

Thanks Charlotte. I couldn’t believe that someone was selling a whole collection of Scots.
And thank you on my dolls too. I’ll let the boys know. 🙂

  2. Linda in St. Louis

Jeanne, those are a lot of different “takes” on these dolls dressed in Royal Stewart plaid! Like I mentioned before, I have one from England in that same plaid. I see two MA dolls in the second picture, that Charlotte says is Ginny, unless I am mistaken! I thought Vogue made Ginny, at least my Ginny is a Vogue. The Shirley Temple doll is cute!

Oh my, Joy, what a darling group of dolls! Did you make that last dress on the right, since I see more of the fabric on the horse and tea table? And I love those ornaments hanging down in the scene. Are they from China?
Yes, I see what you mean about the horse bridle looking a lot like the edging on the dress that Jeanne is making. Thank you so much for sending these in, and Jeanne showing them!

    1. Joy in northern CA

Interesting that in the pics I sent from Ebay to Jeanne, many dolls are in the Royal Stewart plaid. Clueless here. I hope they all go to a good home. And thank you on my dolls. I only made the last dress on the right, as you mentioned, and the horse blanket and bridle. I bought the teapot in a set at the dollar store and painted it gold. The teacups are chapstick caps that I also painted. The tray is a cap from something, also painted. The ornaments are from China. I’ve had them a couple of years and probably bought them at Walmart. Thanks so much for your comment.

      1. Marilyn in Colorado

Chapstick caps! I thought that you were lucky to have found something so tiny, and that you’d paid a small fortune for the set.

  3. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

What beautiful pictures today, Jeanne and Joy! I can’t imagine someone putting all those Scottish dolls all at once on ebay.

Joy, your dolls and the horse are just fabulous! Which ones of the dolls outfits did you make beside the horse’s garb? Did you make all those lovely extras, too? Thank you for sharing your lovey scene!

We have to head out to the Y soon.

    1. Joy in northern CA

I know, I was surprised to see a whole doll collection on the bay.
And thanks on my pics. I made the outfit on the right only and painted a dollar store teapot and come chapstick caps for the tea set.
      🙂

  4. Karen from Kentucky

It’s neat to see all those dolls in one group wearing the plaid. Your Ruby Red Fashion Friends are beautiful, Joy! I especially like the guys. I showed Lucia that you both have the same horse 🙂 Yours looks fancier though. 🙂

    1. Joy in northern CA

How fun that Lucia and I have the same horse! She has great taste. Ha ha And thanks on my New Year scene kids.

      1. Karen from Kentucky

Hello Laura, It is “My Life” from Walmart. I can’t see them on their website. Maybe they aren’t selling them anymore. It is soft on the outside, but hard inside. Target sells “Our Generation” horses for dolls, but they are all plastic. Maybe try Ebay?

      2. Linda in St. Louis

Laura, I have the AG Paint Filly, which is a smaller horse, and it works perfectly with the Ruby Red dolls. It is retired now, ut maybe yu can also find it on EBay.

  5. This is a really nice treasured collection of Scottish dolls. Really beautiful and they look in excellent condition. Lovely!

Joy, your dolls are beautiful! wow, I love this party! Gorgeous fabrics and really a lovely scene, I like the dolls, the fancy clothing and those ornaments in the back are special, and the horse! and the special tea table – cute tea set. Thank you for sharing this, it makes me feel happy too! I love red!
Yesterday I went surfing around on ebay looking at AG dolls, which is of course crazy, there is something for everyone in that category hee hee and the prices are all over the place.
Jeanne, I hope today is a smooth calm day for you and George. I hope all goes perfectly. I hope the weather stays dry. I will be keeping both of you in my prayers.

I should wash my face and comb my hair and go to my new neighorhood “craft and chat” today… but I will see how the mood strikes me at 11am. At present, I have a very sore thumb ([interphalangeal] IP flex joint from hyper extension, in olden nurse medical speak) from grating carrots! Well, admittedly, I do not grate carrots or any other items regularly, so my carrot grating spree (for carrot cake, not yet made) really did it in. Funny and not funny.
Yesterday I felt like I was Jeanne. I was making a cute dress for my 14″ doll model, to go with the amazing feminine pink fluffy sweater Anne made!!! It is almost finished. Sometimes I used tweezers to keep the pieces in place.
Emelia is a Glitter Girl. She has really nice hair! I put her hair in braids!
I hope everyone has a successful happy day.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Thanks on my doll scene. I kind of feel bad that I couldn’t make more outfits, but those chosen are happily all wearing outfits in which they arrived. I did paint the teapot, from the dollar store, and chapstick caps for the tea set, if that counts. 🙂
So sorry about your carrot cake mishap. I find that I have a problem grating cheese now with the base of my thumb. Oh bother.

      1. I absolutely love the red dress that you made! That is really my favorite one, so perfect I like that style very much on dolls. Also the blanket for the horse!
And, brilliant painting and crafting skills with the tea set.
I love the Dollar Store. I stay away because I find too many nifty things to give the grand girls, and then my daughter gets a bit overwhelmed, I understand,…. still, I need to go there once it warms up.
Yes, good fun with puffy joints. I think I will make the carrot cake today (I sacrificed cookies for Lent, which for me IS a sacrifice) and carrot cake is healthy! I have the well grated carrots in the fridge. I have an electric grater that just turns everything to mush, and also a Pampered Chef grater, but I think the grater might not be a good size. I will certainly remember this resulting situation and alternate my process when using this new “box grater”. Anyway, I did not go to craft group because I am a bit in a crabby mood and also I do not feel like handsewing and sitting on my butt for two hours – in a crabby mood. It is the weather I am sure.
Again, I am very happy with these pictures today, happy scenes!

        1. Joy in northern CA

Tks on the dress and tea set. As to graters, I have the old standard metal type from probably the 50’s. Works for me. And I also have my grandmother’s graters that she used to make coleslaw and other things. And I’ve never used them because I would probably cut off a finger. You have to be so careful using those. It’s funny, but years ago after Grandmother Margaret, had moved in with my parents, she asked me if I had the old grater? I said, yes, and did she need it? She said no, but that she had guessed that I had it. Apparently, my mother had told her that I didn’t, but grandmother Margaret knew that of course, I would have kept it. 🙂 Grandmother was 100 at the time. 🙂

      2. Forgot to mention Joy, how much I liked your set up for the dolls. love the items you had on the table. you, find the neatest accessories. The cups and goodies are great!

  6. Joy in northern CA

Well, hopefully, Jeanne and George have made it safely to St. Louis by now. I’ll be thinking of them both today. Maybe we’ll get an update later on.
Thanks Jeanne for sharing my pics today. I went back to Ebay and haven’t been able to find the doll collection again. Perhaps, someone purchased it? Don’t know.
Callie Cat is getting picky. Not liking her wet food. So, dry food it is. Glad that she likes kibble. Fortunately, the time change is quickly approaching as feeding the kitty in the dark is kind of tiring.
Here, we had heavy fog this morning, but fortunately, it is lifting, and I can see some sun trying to get through. Still pretty wet out there though. We’ll get in a walk later after we make a run to Trader Joe’s and maybe Target.

    1. I’m afraid that I mentioned something for you underneath Rosemary’s comment, and it was meant for you and I don’t know if you would have seen it since it wasn’t under your name.

    2. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Joy, what lovely photos. Thank you for sharing them.

My question for you, of course, is where was Other Person when you were taking the photos? Smile. (Sorry, if you already answered this question. I realize I didn’t scroll all the way down to see. I just started typing.)

      1. Joy in northern CA

Yes, other person was on the other couch, but not for long. Just couldn’t take it, I guess. 🙂

  7. Lovely display of Scottish dolls. I see a sweet little MA in the group.I had a Roddy doll as a child dressed in a Scottish outfit as a child to honor my Scottish heritage. Her name was Caroline and unfortunately she was one of the things lost from my grandparent’s house.
Wonderful to see your Lunar New Year dolls again, Joy. Those of us in the FB group get treated twice. 🙂 Everyone looks so elegant!

    1. Clever way of making handleless teacups, Joy. I will be saving my chapstick lids

Prayers for George for a successful surgery, Jeanne. Safe travels to and from St. Louis.

    2. Joy in northern CA

Thanks Laura. Other person thinks I’m nuts wanting to save things like chapstick caps and pill bottle lids etc. Some of them can be repurposed, I keep telling him. 🙂

  8. Wow Joy! thanks for putting the eBay pictures of the Scottish dolls. I’ll have to look at those. I used to have a huge collection of 8 inch man of Alexander’s and one of them was Scottish and I gave that to my sister and the rest of them I gave to my daughter years ago.
I wish I had kept the Scottish one but apparently I can find one on eBay very easily.
And Joy, your RR’s group look wonderful. They look very sophisticated and I love how you have dressed them. The girls look so elegant. And I remember you mentioning making a blanket for a horse and obviously this is the horse. So in celebration of lunar and the Year of the horse ( if that what it’s called?
Thank you Jeanne and Joy for sending the pictures. It’s exciting to get to see your group of Ruby Reds.

Thinking of you and George . 🙏🙏

    1. Joy in northern CA

Thanks Paula. I kept looking at those Scottish dolls and thought of your lovely collection. And yes, Ebay seems to have just about everything. I often put things on my watch list and eventually, they show up. 🙂

  9. Marilyn in Colorado

This was lovely. Nice that a theme worked out — 2 really. Red and ethnic/international. Speaking of ethnic, I just discovered Native American ribbon skirts. I can’t send photos, but I’ll try some Etsy links —
    Here’s a sketch

Interesting. If you add a link like this, your message disappears.
To see what’s available, I found 2 people selling AG sized ribbon skirts by searching
    18″ doll ribbon skirt

I join everyone in wishing Jeanne and George a good day.

    1. Joy in northern CA

The ribbon work is interesting. I guess that you would have to use some kind of printing paper and then iron it on a shirt? Not sure about that.
      Thanks for sharing.

  10. Barbara in SE Texas

David and I used to do a lot of Scottish events, Highland Games and the Burns Supper among them. It was fun getting dressed up in our Scottish attire, especially David who had the whole kilt ensemble, both dress and casual. He looked amazing. David held all the positions from Chieftain to Sargeant-at-Arms for our Scottish society over the years so we got to sit at the head table for the Burns Supper. An amazing experience. I only have one doll in Scottish attire. A friend gave her to me when she discovered her granddaughter didn’t want the doll. She is beautiful but not among those shown here.

Joy, your display is amazing. All your dolls look so wonderful and the dress you made is outstanding. I love the horse. My dolly girls have a few horses but I’ve never done a photo shoot with them. I’m still pondering the dance recital shoot so the horses will have to wait.

I think I’m in line for a Gold Medal for what I did yesterday. I walked a half mile with my cane. It was brutal but I’ve got to get my body moving again so I went for it. I managed to loosen up my left leg that has been so stiff but my lower back didn’t like it much. I’m going to alternate walking at the park with using my rowing machine. But the next time I’m going to walk with my rollator until I get stronger. With my cane I was totally exhausted when I got home. But I confess I did take advantage of a couple of the bleachers by the baseball fields.

    1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Barbara, good for you to keep on trying to get moving. I wish you had a pool near by, working out in water is so good for your movements and not so hard.
Still no cookies for you, and no ice cream for me.

    2. Joy in northern CA

Well, good for you on that half mile. When I had sciatica, I often wasn’t sure that I could make it up the hill, but I kept at it and it got easier.
I’d love to see your Scottish doll when you find time. And your girls and their horses too.
Thanks on my pics. I’ll let the kids know that you liked their scene. 🙂

    3. How interesting of your Scottish events. What fun as well as celebrating your Scottish heritage.
Scotland is my biggest DNA. Back in Fort Wayne, Indiana there was always a big summer event of the Scottish tour. It was magnificent, but I’ve heard that it has moved to another town in Indiana. we loved listening to the bagpipes and the games that they had and their uniforms were really wonderful.
Now my husband is not Scottish / he is 97% French!
      Can’t celebrate with him! 😂

    4. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Barbara, yeaaa! All of us here (human and doll) are so proud of you! You definitely get a medal.

  11. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

I’ll be thinking of you and George Jeanne. Praying too.
It is very autumnal here at the moment and it isn’t even autumn yet! Only 10C but it is only 7.30 am.
My son says he hasn’t room in his garage to ferment the grapes (for making port) so will leave it till next year. I will probably take them to Delta.
Tomorrow night (Saturday) Sam and I are going to The Court Theatre to see ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ She won the tickets and she also won a voucher for dinner at a restaurant but she is saving those for my birthday.
    Have a great day everyone

    1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Have a great time at the theater, Anne. I love that story, have seen it as movie, it was great.

  12. Joy in northern CA

Found the listing for the Scottish dolls again on Ebay. I thought someone had purchased them, but doesn’t look like it.
