Little Darlings… get ready for this Christmas dress…

Hi everyone,
I missed the window of listing the dress I’ve been working on for your Little Darlings by about an hour, but it’s ready and scheduled to go on Ebay Wednesday evening. I’ll post the link to it at the right-side bar of my blog when it becomes an active listing.

As to the debacle of the white furry cape I shared yesterday, I decided it would just be easier to cut out another cape than to try and pick out the stitches of the one I messed up on. I hand basted it all together before doing any machine stitching on it and probably checked 3 or 4 times if right sides were together like they were supposed to be. I wasn’t going to make that mistake twice!

Here are a few pictures of the making of the new cape. I was sewing almost like in slow motion. I didn’t want to stretch the fur and get it out of shape, so I was being very careful… after I hand basted it in some brown thread, I stitched it on the machine… then I trimmed it, turned it and using tiny little stitches, I stitched around the inside edge to hold the tulle to the inside. Then I added a small stand up collar and added some pretty sparkly trim pieces to the front. It’s hard to see, but it’s REALLY pretty.

Best of all, I added a magnetic closure on it and all you have to do is hold the front collar edge together and the magnets find each other and snap together. I took a short video I hope will work to show you how it works…

I made a hairbow and put it on the back of her head, covering the end of her braids, and being somewhat visible when you look at her from the front. It has a snap clip on the back, so the winner can use it anywhere on their dolls hair.

One more thing I made was a bracelet on stretchy cord. It ties the whole outfit together…

You’ll be able to see all my pictures when the listing is live!

Well, I’ve been working all day on this so I need to get to bed. My hubby even cooked dinner for us tonight because he knew I desperately needed to get this listed!

Thanks everyone,
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, this new cape turned out just perfectly, Jeanne! I know what you mean, about sewing in slow-motion, just continually checking to make sure you have everything just right. Been there, done that!!

Natasha’s hair bow and little bracelet are the perfect finishing touches, too!

Marilyn, congrats on your “new” PC Kirsten! What a great find! I give my dolls middle names, too–my Kirsten’s middle name is Augusta, as it was my maternal grandmother’s middle name (and we are all Swedish here–in fact, my maiden name is Larson, which of course is Kirsten’s name!).

I’ve been dealing with some muscle spasms in my back, but I had physical therapy today, and by doing some exercises to even out my legs (one wants to pull up higher than the other one), it did help reduce the sharp “gotcha!!” pains I was experiencing. Just have to remember to keep doing those exercises at home! But at least I’m feeling a little more “human” now.

More rain in the greater Seattle area tonight, and more rivers are reaching flood stage. Fortunately, not in the immediate vicinity of my house. Thank you all for your concern.

Oh Jeanne, this is such a sweet little outfit, perfect for Christmas! I love the “sparkle” of the magnetic closure on the cape! It turned out perfectly and will be just the thing for some little doll to wear when the winter cold is here!

The little bracelet adds charm to the outfit, and I love Natasha’s braids up which makes her look very grown up for special occasions! The bow is perfect and can be used in different ways, if a doll doesn’t have a hairdo like Natasha’s! What’s not to like?

Congrats to Marilyn on getting her Kirsten! By the way, St. Lucia Day is this coming Saturday, so if any of you have Kirsten and her St. Lucia outfit, now is the time to put it on her! It’s really a special outfit and nobody wears it better than Kirsten!

I am finally finished with my Christmas shopping, but not finished with our decorating. I still have another tree to put up and to decorate the family room, then the worst part, putting all the bins and boxes away! I hope everyone is getting somewhere in your Christmas preparations! Baking is next week for me.

Good for you on the shopping. I can’t wait to see your decorating, if you can get some pics to share. I’m sure that it will all come together. And good for you on baking next week. Not going there. I would probably end up nibbling way too many calories, but the receivers will be overjoyed to receive something from you. 🙂

  3. Awwww, this is so precious. Wow, so glad you made the cape, and it it looks fancy, Jeanne. Fiddly sewing with excellent results. Excellent and beautiful.
Today I should get out and get some fresh air. Maybe go to the old house and flush the toilets and vacuum. Then to Lidl for some stuff.
Today is going to be the “warmest day” at 43º but it is cloudy, and not windy, thank goodness. I hope all of you have a super productive day (little or a lot, no stress) and enjoy some Christmas music on the radio too!
Love to all of you, dear ones

Charlotte, I am glad your leg got better, and that you will be working on it at home as well. I remember having to do that when I had my knees replaced. The older we get the more we need to keep moving.

I would love the see any or all of the Kirsten dolls in there St. Lucia Day outfits! That would be so lovely!

I still have some Christmas things to get to, I just don’t know how I can make cookies that I send for gifts, finish cards, and still get my Kish things out for sale. At least my Simone Grandgirl with send me what she wants. She turned fourteen Sunday.
We are off to the neighbors for our Wednesday church morning with our priest.
    Talk to y’all later!

Oh, now Natasha’s, outfit is gleaming! So excited to see the sweet bracelet. Perfect. And I do like how Jeanne, has handled her braids. The style is so right with the bow in back for her sweet outfit. And of course, the warm cape will keep her toasty. The sparkles are an added treat too. Well done! Some LD will be so happy and warmly dressed in this cute outfit.

I had to smile when I read that Rosemary’s high was going to be 43. Our low this morning was 41 and it is so cold. Don’t know how anyone can survive. 🙂

Hope the rain moves on for Charlotte. Must be getting old. And hope that the exercises etc. help as well.

I hope that Linda, is able to share some pics with us of her decorating. Would be especially nice to see since we have about zero around here. Well, I did find a blue glass large vase that someone put out with a lot of others for people to take if they wanted while we were on our walk the other day. Carried if all the way on the walk and then home. Gave it a bath and yesterday, popped in a handful of mini lights and set it up on the mantel. Looks pretty with the lights shining through the glass in the evening. 🙂

    Keep warm everyone.

I sounds lovely, Joy, what a nice find! Our living room is done, maybe I will send Jeanne some photos, too.

Jeanne I REALLY love that dress, the cape is so sweet, the bow and her hair up, te bracelet…it is all so lovely. I would think there would be a fight over this one for sure!

Prayers continue for you, George and your little Reuben.

Have to make this quick today. We leave at noon to go to have the data on our old computers moved to our new ones. We wanted to have someone come here but decided not to spend the money. And there are more places to eat lunch in Katy than here so that’s an incentive to go to Best Buy so the Geek Squad can do it. So I have to shut down shortly.

Love Natasha’s completed outfit. Very beautiful. Will check out more when it’s posted on eBay.

So glad Charlotte’s leg exercises are working and hope that the muscle spasms in her back are gone.

Would really love to see all the Kirstens in their St. Lucia costumes. That is such a beautiful celebration.

Congrats Marilyn on finding a Kirsten doll that is in very good condition. A real treasure.

If I missed anything, sorry. Gotta go.

  7. Congrats to you, Marilyn, on your “new” PC Kirsten. Kirsten was my daughter’s first doll bought back in 1993. One of the German made ones. She used to dress her up in her St. Lucia outfit each year. Dressing them all for Christmas usually happened Thanksgiving evening. How nice you gave her a middle name. As you all know, I rename almost all the dolls and come up with a new first, at least two middle, and a last name. That’s half the fun!

Natasha looks lovely. The little cape is very sweet and the bracelet is the perfect little extra.

Oh, Rosemary, 43 would be almost balmy. We won’t get out of the 30’s today and it is raining to boot.

    Good Morning all
Today is a relief from the 30C weather we have been having. My ph says it is going up to 17C which is a bit cooler than I like but the weather lady last night said it would be 20C so who knows
Jeanne the cape is lovely and the fastening very clever. Love the outfit. I guess you are missing Rebecca, I hope it won’t be too long before you see them again.
Marilyn, I must have missed the post where you said you had bought Kirsten, congratulations.
Charlotte I am glad the physio is helping. Keep it up.
We haven’t put the decorations up yest, or at least Sam hasn’t!. I only have a couple of presents still to buy. Sam bought hers yesterday from me. These days she want different power tools! so this year she wanted a waterblaster! She asked if she could have it early so she can do the deck and the house before Christmas. There are a couple of things she wants me to make that will be a sort of surprise so I am doing that for her for Christmas Day. It will be a very quiet Christmas this year. We will go to my son’s for breakfast as usual but then Russell is coming back for lunch/dinner. there will onlu be the four of us since Kai and Jono will be in Australia. It will just be a salad this year with chicken and ham. We don’t have turkey it is too expensive and we only get frozen turkeys which I think ruins the meat so will have a nice fresh chicken and a ham instead. I will have to make a Lemon meringue pie though and I always make the mince pies and shortbread. Next year I will try making my own mince again. Does anyone watch Tasting History with Max Miller on YouTube? He puts out a video every Tuesday where he makes something from an old recipe (sometimes VERY old) and while it is ‘cooking’ tells you the history behind the recipe. Fascinating series, I highly recommend it. Anyway I might make some mince from one of his old recipes next year but too late this year. I hope there is still some left in the shops.
Asher has finished school for the year, won’t be going back till late Jan or early Feb.
Better go now. I have sewing to do too
    Keep warm everyone.

Dear Anne, Tasty History sounds interesting (says the non-cook). I will have to take a look at it.

I love to watch Beat Bobby Flay on the Food Network. Do you have that on TV where you are?

  9. Jeanne, the cape is the perfect addition along with the pretty bracelet. The whole outfit is Christmas Adorable! I would love a white cape like that. I can just see Natasha in a sleigh dressed as she is!

Marilyn!!! I’m so happy for you getting a Kirsten! I’m sure she will get better with your help. What a fun project. Please send some pictures!

Got our house decorated but not outside- hopefully that’ll be a project next December. This December is filled with neighborhood events. It’s always so much fun and there’s lots to do. I’ve been really busy.
Have a great rest of your day!

My Kirsten certainly feels welcome. Thank you all. I got my First AG 30 years ago and Kit when she first came out and Lindsay when she first appeared. Felicity was second-hand, my reward for living through cancer, and Elizabeth my second-hand reward for living through the hospice, so I have several dolls that were made about when this Kirsten was. A Swedish friend said that Kirsten was more Norwegian and Kristen more Swedish. Birgitta is no longer with us but perhaps Charlotte can tell us. We met because she sold me a darling outfit on Ebay and we stayed friends for several years. I sent her a Kirsten/Kristen. The woman postal clerk leaned over the counter and said, “The package says doll. Which one?” She agreed that I was sending the right one.

We are having a warm spell with temperatures around 60. It can’t last and better not because we need the water to prevent forest fires. Whatever happens, we’ll have something to worry about.

The new outfit is lovely and the magnetic closure is a great idea. All the sparkles make this a wonderful holiday dress.

  11. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, what a darling Little Darling outfit! I think that Natasha will take center stage in any holiday soiree she attends.
