“Christmas Charm” is listed on Ebay…

Hi everyone,
I am SO happy to finally have Natasha’s Christmas AND Debut dress finished and actually listed on Ebay! You can see it by clicking the picture at the right-side bar, or you can click HERE.

I have received a few pictures of Kirsten dolls in their St. Lucia outfits.. if you have a picture of your doll dressed up and would like to send it to me, I’m going to show them Friday, since St. Lucia Day is Saturday, December 13th!

Congratulations to Marilyn on her “new to her” Kirsten doll! Let the fun begin!

I got a lot accomplished today… not any sewing, but things for upcoming events in my life. I have a Staff Christmas party first, then 4 days later, the Married Couple’s Christmas party!

I found an article online on a beginner’s guide to using the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra phone settings. I learned some things and I’m testing it out right now, by showing this picture of my candy jar… I hope it’s clear!

I got the candies counted and put in the jar and all “prettied” up! I’ll have the married couples guess how many pieces are in it and whoever is closest wins it.

This was my “before” picture…

This is my NEW “after” picture…

I’m working on my game… and hope to get it finished soon.

I found my “Secret Santa” gift for the person whose name I was given. YAY!

I got the ornaments I’m putting in the favor bags totally finished with a few added embellishments.

My plan is the finish up the lady’s fingerless gloves tomorrow! I laid out 3 more ideas for gloves that Rebecca had put together, then I need to take some pictures of them and see which ones my customer wants.

I delivered some eggs to a friend today when I went to town.

I found the treat bags upstairs that I’m going to put my “goodies” in for the party. I’m making chocolate chip cookies and my Mint Chocolate Cookie Bark.

I picked up “some” of the ingredients for the Strawberry Salad I’m making for the Staff Christmas Party.

I texted the people who hadn’t responded to the sign-up sheet for the Married Couple’s party, that was passed around Sunday.

Well, I think that’s a long enough list of what I did! I hope your day was productive too!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I’m so glad to hear you got Natasha’s outfit listed! It really is a beautiful one. However, there is no picture on the sidebar! The link worked fine, though, so I could skim thru the pictures.

I have a Kirsten doll, too, AND her St. Lucia outfit; however, I don’t think I’m going to have time to get her dressed and pictures taken and sent to you before Thursday night. Tomorrow is my sewing guild Christmas party and catered tea at noon, and then IHOP with my friends later in the afternoon, so it will be a busy day for me! And Friday my friend Marika and I will take our dolls to lunch. It’s April Eleanore’s turn next, and she is already prancing around in her silver shoes and sparkly pink dress!! I will try to remember my camera so I can take pictures; I’m sure Marika’s Annie will be dressed for the season, too. You may recall, we didn’t do our annual Halloween lunch this year because that is the day I fell and hurt my foot, and spent the time in the urgent care instead.

My word, you got a lot done, Jeanne!! You have a fun and busy few days ahead of you.

Marilyn mentioned yesterday that a friend told her that “Kirsten” was more Norwegian and “Kristen” was more Swedish, so I looked it up in A Handbook of Scandinavian Names by Nancy L. Coleman and Olav Veka. (I have probably a dozen or so baby name books–names are a hobby of mine!–and when I spotted this one a few years ago, of course I Had to have it!)

Anyway, about Kirsten, the book says it’s a “Norwegian and Danish form of Kristine. The most common name in Denmark 1920-1950; also popular in Norway.” It gives pronunciations (which are very similar) in all three languages, however.

About Kristen, it says “Norwegian form of Kristine, known from the twelfth century, and popular in recent decades”.

As for personal knowledge, I’ve never been to Sweden (although I’m pure Swedish), but I do have one cousin (half Swedish) whose name is Kirsten! (Maiden name…Larson!!)

Your picture is really good for me on my monitor, Jeanne! This is funny, but as I scrolled down to see it, I thought it was a doll hat, before I got to the candy part!
That is really a cute idea, and I might add that to our games for Christmas Day get together!

And I too notice that the newest dress isn’t listed on the sidebar of the blog. Maybe a glitch?

You sure have been busy! And come to think of it, how do you package that Chocolate Mint Cookie Bark? Do you wrap it in Saran wrap? Mine gets soft and melty when I take it out of the refrigerator. Just wondering how you do it.

I sent a couple of pictures of my Kirsten for tomorrow!

My goodness, Charlotte, you are doing a lot of running around in all that rain! Don’t float away! And Joy, I will send Jeanne some pictures of my decorating soon. Maybe we can all send some in to help out Jeanne who is very busy now! (Aren’t we all?)🙂

Dear Jeanne, my goodness you have been busy. I hope you find time to take a breather.

Can Christmas really be only two weeks away?

  4. Happy Thursday dear ones. It is cold outside. I hope all of you are feeling warm and toasty in your domiciles. Jeanne, I did find the listing. The photos are so good.
This outfit will sell in a jiffy, it is just spectacular!

Ahhh so you have a Samsung phone, I hope you can learn the camera settings. These photos here are perfect! I think you have got it.
Everyone, enjoy the rest of your week, today we are having sunshine!!!! …. and windy.
I am going to try to get out for a walk around the block.

Well, first things first. The photo of the candy jar, what a fun idea, looked okay, but the candy was too dark and shadowy to see very well. However, when I clicked on it and it enlarged. Wow, what a difference. Shadows gone and colors popping and the fabric is sharp! Not sure why it is so dark before being enlarged, but the larger photo is a wonderful subject. So, now, what did you do to get rid of the grainy look of the previous photos you were taking? I’m still having those losing resolution problems from camera to computer. Anyway, congrats on figuring out your phone.
And wow, Jeanne, is in busy bee mode. So much accomplished. New title is Wonder Woman of the Holidays! 🙂
Here, other person and I got it together and after a lot of work, confirmed the model numbers of our order for appliances for Costco, and after a few gulps, hit the “buy” button. We picked a delivery date too, so now the wait to see what they say when someone calls to confirm. Now, we have to get into the moving things from the kitchen and preparing for the removal of the old appliances and delivery of the new. Not going to be pretty.
Forgot to pick up the tree at the other house yesterday, so perhaps that will happen today. But, we do have to move one generator and a lot of tools accumulated up here from our deck rehab and painting first. We have a problem as everything has to be carried up or down from the garage which has no direct access from the house, so we tend to leave things up here so we can access them easily. Not a pretty picture.
Another cold morning with fog. We will be so glad to see the sun come up again as this stuck fog finally clears the valleys. And we hear that we may finally get some much needed rain in the coming days. So sorry that Charlotte, is getting so much of the wet stuff.
Can’t wait to see pics of Kirsten. I have one as well, but not the Santa Lucia outfit. I always loved her special tray with treats and the wreath with candles headgear. Although, I always wondered if anyone had accidents with those candles on their heads? I understand that now, battery candles are used. Such an improvement. 🙂

When my sister and her husband visited years ago we were having a drought on our side of the Alps. We took them on a tour around the S Island and when we got to the West Coast the rain was terrifyingly bad. (Very common here, when it rains on one side of the mountains it is dry on the other). My BIL suggested we found a way to tip the country on it’s side so we got some of the wet stuff on the east coast! Maybe that’s is what you need, to tip some of the rain from Seattle to CA lol.

When I wrote about the candy jar, I did not see two pictures. Just the darker one so wrote about that. The second I found when I clicked on it. Maybe there was a change up? Anyway, the lighter sharp photo is great. Go Jeanne Go!

  6. Just like Joy, the candy jar is dark on my laptop but once enlarged everything is bright including the gilding.
My daughter got Kirsten, her St. Lucia gown, wreath, tray set, Sari way back in 1993. First doll and I believe the second outfit after her birthday dress.
I didn’t choose to have Kirsten, but I do have her tray set and St. Lucia gown.

My computer is showing me a picture of Anne’s South Island this morning. I live at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, but yours are much more dramatic, rising from water. We’re short on oceans in Colorado.

Jeanne, your candy pictures are amazing. The 2nd one is so much brighter and clearer. Congratulations.

Thanks for the research, Charlotte. We know now for sure that there is at least one human Swedish Kirsten Larson.

    I found more:
All right, but still, why -son, why -sen?
The answer is: Swedish still spells and pronounces it with an -o-, and still spells it -son. The Danes reduced the -o- to an uh sound, and so they spell it -sen; the Norwegians tend to follow Danish spelling, since they’d been part of the Danish realm for centuries.
All those first-name-plus-sen names are Danish or Norwegian; most of the -son names are Swedish.
    Here’s my source
    https://www.unlockyourhistory.com/post/understanding-sen-and-son-in-a-name-johnson-janson-and-jansen

So Larson is Swedish, if she were Norwegian, she’d be Kirsten Larsen, and if she were Icelandic, she’d be Kirsten Larsdottir.

The link above also gives dates when these names became permanent. Originally I’d have been Marilyn Annasdottir, but my mother would have been Anna Elizabethsdottir. When names became permanent, daughter, mother, and grandmother used the same last name.

Of course, some of the old ways remain in casual usage. Meeting distant family members, my mother said, “I’m Anna, Lizzie’s daughter. Lizzie was Uncle Billy’s daughter.”

The Danes last names changed from generation to generation. In my family, we had my grandfather, born in Iowa, Frank Christensen. His father was Niels Christensen, the son of Christen Nielsen, Christen’s father was Niels Ovesen, Ove’s last name, I can’t remember. The sen of the last name means son. The women were the dattar or daughter, so their last name would have been Christensdattar. It was so complicated in Denmark, that they made everyone keep their last name the same at some point. 🙂
