Linda saved the day again for me….

Hi everyone,
You won’t believe this… we almost didn’t, but the man that was recommended to us to do our taxes, got them Wednesday and Thursday morning his associate called us and said THEY WERE DONE!!! What???? Yes, talk about the favor of the Lord! We were so happy all the way home. And, yes, we did get a refund too!!!

My dear friend came over today and we visited and visited and even got her dress finished. It was made in Africa and she wanted to wear it Sunday as we are celebrating International Sunday on Easter Sunday! All the International students were asked to wear an outfit representative of their homeland. It’s always a fun day to see the many costumes from the nations! I’ll try to take some pictures for you!

Well, after Jan left, I should have gotten busy and done something constructive in my sewing room, but I didn’t. I just looked at it all clean and nice…(and actually wondered if I could remember where I tucked everything that was out of place.) Things got moved around and I’ll have to find things again… but it looks nice!

How nice that Linda supplied us with some wonderful pictures! That’s what we’ll be seeing today! I’ll show you my room another day, but Linda’s pictures are Eastery and clean and so pretty and there is lots to see…

Linda will narrate her pictures…

You can click on the pictures to make them zoom in for the details, but don’t forget to wait until you’ve seen everything you want to comment on, or you’ll lose your comments.

Jeanne,
My Ethan Allen hutch, decorated for Easter!

A shelf also in the kitchen.

My little Easter Bunny on the island! Got him At Pier One before it closed.

Jeanne, maybe you need something for Friday. If so, here are my dolls dressed for Easter.
First, Felicity, dressed Elizabeth’s Tea Lesson gown, but with a few different touches. That’s a lace mantilla she has wrapped around her, from back in the days when we had to wear something on our heads for church.

Here are Cecile and Kirsten! Cecile is wearing Samantha’s Skating Party dress, and Kirsten has her new dress from Queen’s Treasures with that apron I made for her.

The 40’s girls are ready for church, with their hats and gloves!

The modern dolls found the Easter Bunny!

Molly’s table has been visited by the Easter Bunny!

Love to you!
Linda💕🐇

Linda, your pictures are just the sweetest thing! You HAVE to be the best doll mom around! I would love to be a little mouse in your house watching you dress your dolls for every holiday that rolls around! I’m betting you talk to them as you dress them too! :o)
You always make them different, so we never think, “Oh, I remember that from before…” It’s always pretty and so lovely looking!
Thank you for your sweet pictures!

A very happy Easter to you too!
I’ll see everyone Monday, unless I do a Sunday post!
Blessings, Jeanne

I’m so glad you and Jan had such a good time, and got her dress ready, too! And I know what you mean; when you finally have things picked up and straightened, and you don’t want to mess it up again, so you don’t do anything at all!

And, wow, that was Really fast on the tax return!!

Linda, I always enjoy your pictures, and to see your house all decorated up, too, is such a treat. Thank you! Your girls look so pretty, all dressed up like that. I especially like Felicity’s dress and the one on Molly (I think–anyway, middle girl of your 40s girls).

Joy, I haven’t worn jeans in decades! I used to, but my thick waist has only gotten thicker, and the pants never really fit me in the waist, anyway–always too small. So, it’s elastic for me! My favorite pants are Land’s End Sport Knit Cords (which are a knit, corduroy-like fabric) and Sport Knit Pants, which are made from a flat knit fabric, somewhat like an interlock but a little sturdier. I have worn–and worn out!!–many pairs since I first discovered them years ago. I’m less fond of them lately, though, as they’ve made the elastic waist using wider elastic (1 to 1-1/4″ instead of 3/4″) and I just have no room between my ribs and my hips for that wide an elastic!

Back to pianos, etc.: My folks’ piano was a MEDIUM size grand, so quite a bit bigger than a baby grand! Therefore, it just would not have worked for me. And I will opt for a portable keyboard, because I really don’t have a free wall to put a piano against. I married into this house (it came with the husband), or I would have had one with larger rooms!! 😂

I’m sleeping in tomorrow, so I’m up later than usual tonight. Good night!!

    1. Joy in northern CA

That is great that you like cords. I have a pair of jean cords that I like. They are black. Your Land’s End sound perfect but sad that they have changed the waist. That has been happening with sleeve length on the tee shirts that I pick up at Kohl’s. I wonder if designers ever think to ask their clientele about their desires? Probably not. Have a Happy Easter.

      1. Charlotte Trayer

I have noticed that their petite size tops have longer sleeves than they used to. They think we’ve grown?!!

  2. Linda in St. Louis

What a quick turnover for doing your taxes, Jeanne! That’s amazing, and lucky you to be getting a refund too! Not the case here.đŸ„Č

Oh yes, I do know now it is to clean and straighten everything up, and just not to “mess” it up again! You do need a break now and then, so enjoy the straightened up sewing room while you can!

As for as my pictures go, I thought why not send in these if you needed them? I doubted you would want to start on a sewing project at the end of a busy week for you. I’m so glad they helped!

You mentioned being a little mouse watching while I dress my dolls! Ha, ha, it looks like we are moving when I do that! You can’t imagine two dolls rooms so turned upside down! Then most of the time I bring them to the kitchen table to dress them, which helps so I can sit down and they have a place to stand.

Charlotte, thank you! That’s Molly’s Polka Dot dress set, actually a skirt and blouse. Felicity looks pretty in most everything I put on her. I’m not sure how well that lace shawl helps for chilly weather, but it does look pretty!

Dear Linda, thank you for sharing photos of your lovely dolly children. They are always so nicely dressed and so well behaved.

Molly’s table looks so inviting. I like how colorful you have made it.

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Dorothy, thank you so much! I send pictures to Jeanne because I know somebody will enjoy them, since we all love our dolls!

I fixed Molly’s table like I had when I was little. The Easter bunny always left our baskets on the kitchen table. All the little Easter accessories have been collected through the years, and since I am 83, that’s quite a few years!😊

    2. Barbara in SE Texas

Linda I always love your wonderful pictures and these Easter pictures are the best. All the girls look so lovely. Where did you get Betsy’s adorable dress and all her other accessories? I better not let my Betsy see this one. She already has more than she can wear (since I’m rather negligent at changing her clothes often) but I know she would want this one to add to her collection.

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Barbara, that dress and hat came from a dear friend, when she found out that my “new” Betsy had no clothes, it is perfection at it’s finest, made by some Etsy seller, and fits her perfectly, I have no idea who made it, I am sorry to say, and I have had it for quite awhile. The back is as cute as the front! I should have shown that.

  3. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I am glad that your taxes are completed. I know that is a relief.

I have been praying for the family of the tax preparer who passed away.

We are already in month 4 of the new year. March seemed to pass slowly, which delighted me. I want to savor and enjoy each blessed day and revel in the love and comfort of family and friends.

  4. Oh how beautiful! Thank you Linda for stepping in for busy Jeanne and saving the day đŸŁđŸ„° Your pictures are beautiful! Your dolls are so wonderful. I wish I could have helped dress them, you did such a perfect job setting up these scenes and the photos are perfect!
Jeanne, I am glad you made your sewing room pin straight. This sounds like a challenge, but seriously, it is all about “filing” isn’t it? We all need secretaries. We are doing serious stuff and personally I was never a secretary, I was a nurse and I had …. well, lots and lots of cabinets and drawers full of boring items.
I am so glad you were able to have a great fun time with your friend and make that dress beautiful That is just wonderful! the best time everr!!
Yes! I am looking forward to viewing any photos you take. I hope you have perfect weather on Easter day.
Linda, your scenes are sweet. I love these dresses… and everyone has shoes on!!
The breakfast table is so cute. I love the surprises!
Emerson’s dress looks hand made. I love that color on her.
The 40s girls are so sweet, so precious.
All of the scenes are beautifully set up, Linda
I love all of the dresses. Now I want to sew a lot of dresses 😆 (this is why my sewing room is an “explosion of creativity” **mess)
I hope everyone has a wonderful week-end and a beautiful Sunday
Matt 28:5-7 – But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Rosemary! Really though, all my dolls are doing is standing there! I think anyone of you ladies could do that! I do love to dress them up and I wish I had more little granddaughters to dress! I remember so fondly shopping for the two that I have, and how fun that was to fix them up like little dolls. Now I fix my dolls up to look like little girls!😊

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

I loved dressing my two children, a girl and a boy, when they were little. I never could understand mothers who said it didn’t matter so why make the effort. Who cares. Well I did and I was surprised at how much that seemed to annoy some people. I guess the ones who didn’t want to make the effort. I used to send a couple of extra outfits to daycare for my children. The outfits were matching or coordinating. Sometimes I would go to pick them up and they would be wearing the top of one outfit and the bottom of another. When I asked why I was told they were trying to save me laundry. I might have been okay with that if I did my wash using the rocks down at the river, but I had an automatic washer that did a fine job and with the clothes so small an extra piece wouldn’t matter. I tried to not make a big deal out of it but I often had to run errands after work and it was important to me that my children looked nice. Believe it or not it was important to them too since they grew up caring how they looked.

        1. You had good kids Barbara. I bet all of you here had excellent kids.
I just went through two huge boxes of “school papers” my oldest daughter insists on keeping, so I repacked them to 4 manageable boxes. Anyway, going through all of those boxes. …. I know I was blessed to have such wonderful daughters. I also enjoyed dressing them and making their clothes. They loved it too.
Back then, kids were really wonderful.
I think there are a lot of wonderful kids these days too. They are exposed to a lot of unhealthy distractions. That makes me sad.

          1. Barbara in SE Texas

I had great kids and I know I was truly blessed. When my son was in middle school I used to wake up on a Saturday hearing him out mowing the lawn – without being told. One day I came home from work in December to find Sean and his friend putting up my Christmas decorations on the house and they were automated (David made them) so a lot of work. Sean wouldn’t even take a drink until he was 21 and would not go to parties if he knew certain people were going to be there. Andrea was into speech and drama from the time she could get involved. Her junior year she won Best Actress at State while also taking two of the lower levels (Romeo and Juliet won Regionals that year). In her senior year she won all four levels. She has a degree in theater. She graduated in the top 5% of her class. I also have wonderful grandkids. My son and daughter-in-law have made sure they are involved in church activities and they attend their church “Refuge” each week where the kids have a meal, do homework and interact with other people their age in a spiritual environment. Skyy will be 16 in July and Jaiden is 14 so I feel pretty good about them having their feet on the ground. Azure who is five now also goes to Refuge. He’s sweet on the little sister of one of Jaiden’s friends. They do have things for the younger kids too so parents can either help at Refuge or have an evening to themselves.

Congrats on getting your friend’s dress rearranged. Hope to see some pics of all the students soon.
And how wonderful that the taxes are done already and especially that you will get a refund. Not so here. 🙁
As to cleaning and redepositing things in your sewing room, I find that challenging. I don’t have a sewing room, but have things I use regularly in a tub near the couch. However, when expecting visitors, I have to move that and anything else that has been sitting nearby that needs attention. Last time, it took me several days to locate certain items again. Crazy, I know. I still can’t find the special glue I put somewhere when we were getting the new kitchen appliances, way back before Christmas. I’ve looked everywhere. Not a clue where I stashed it.
It was so refreshing to see Linda’s beautiful home and lovely decorations. I love the china display on her Ethan Allen piece and the bunnies are so sweet. Especially, the one in the nest with the eggs. Everything is so festive. Love it. The island’s decorations are stunning as well. So cute with the bunny and that great leaf design mat. Love her touches. Elizabeth with her repurposed mantilla is stunning and the accessories a perfect touch. Cecile and Kirsten are adorable in the blues. In fact all of the blues I’m seeing are perfect. That skating dress is definitely a favorite of mine. Wow! And Kirsten’s new dress from Queens is perfect. I loved seeing the 40’s girls in their sweet attire. The bunnies and chicks are perfect additions too. And the modern girls are perfect. Great outfits and they look so happy to have their new bunnies. And how delightful for Molly to have everyone over for brunch after the egg hunts. Her table is spectacular this year. Linda’s styling is the best! Thank you so much Linda and Jeanne for sharing Easter with us. Loved it.
Here, the only decor out is a big vintage white water pitcher in the middle of the dining table with a couple of little golden bunnies sitting underneath. No dollies in spiffy outfits either. Maybe next year. I was very glad to get back to the weeds/brush yesterday because after our recent rain, it was so much easier to dig out stubborn vines. I did manage to uncover a lot more iris, so I was happy about that. I doubt that they will bloom this year, but I have seen a few spikes from some of the others here. I’m still not done with that area as it is so hard to dig on the hillside and not damage any tubers. Hope to get back to doing more today after taking a break for a walk and getting some lunch.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone and Happy Easter.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you Joy! That “nest” you are referring to on the hitch is actually an Easter wreath! I was going to put it on a wall, but at the last minute, when I got it home, I thought that would make a perfect nest for the two ceramic bunnies! The white scarf is from my mother-in- law, and I suppose it was some sort of dresser scarf, from long ago. I fix the hutch up the same way every year and take a picture so I don’t waste time trying to figure out where everything goes. I do that at Christmas too.

Yes, when the weather gets warmer, yard work takes away from inside decorating here too. You only get so many nice days outside, and have to take advantage of them when you do get them. So much to do, so little time!

    2. Linda in St. Louis

Here is my second reply to Joy! The other one must. E lost in space!
Thank you, Joy for the compliments! That “nest” that you mention on the hutch is actually a wreath. I had it in mind for a wall, it when I got it home, I thought it would be perfect for the bunny nest. Since it was already put together, all I had to do was set it down. I take pictures of decorations to use each year so it saves time on trying to figure out what goes where. I do that for Christmas too.

Actually, Kirsten’s new dress is the only “new” thing this year. I always liked that dress, but thought it was too fancy for her. Easter made it perfect! I too, love the blue skating party dress. I managed to snag it before the prices went too high for me on EBay. You certainly don’t get dresses like that anymore from AG.

  6. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Well, Y’all, for once I didn’t get here yesterday. I have read y’all’s yesterday this morning.

I love the small goose and hope to see more of them, Rosemary!

Oh, Barbara, how awful just one little kick in the wrong place can do! It least you weren’t covered in soap bubbles when it happened! I hope the other thing gets fixed soon.

We inherited Peyton’s mom’s upright piano years ago. I used to plan on it some but now it just sits with photos on it. Maybe I will try it again sometime.

After reading about the new kinds of jeans I am so glad I still have all mine I bought years ago, and I can still get in them, LOL! They are Gloria Vanderbuilt, and are as good as new..

Anne, Your Maundy Thursday story sounded great!! I would have loved that! Last night our choir got up first for the foot washing. I did fine when I sat in the chair for my feet to be washed but when I was supposed to wash Peyton’s feet I had a problem. I can’t bend over because of my back, and if I knelt down on my knees it would take 3 people to get me up! Our priest saw my problem and helped me as I squatted down, at least I can squat! Whew!

I was never with the blog yesterday for too many reasons, going to the y and grocery store, coming home to find that the guys came to cut down 3 trees. We didn’t expect them until next week. Also I had to stay out there to show them where to trim out some bushes, which I had to hang around to make sure they understood and didn’t cut them wrong. Then I had to get another shower, because I had a tick on my shirt, we have a lot of them because of all the deer around here. Then grab something to eat and then get dressed and go to church. They will be back today to finish the bushes and haul off the mess from the trees, so I will have to be out again. I will spray my clothes a lot more this time.

Linda, It is so nice to see your lovely decorations and your dolls so beautifully dressed and ready for their Easter food. I especially love the 40’s girls because they are in my age, but all your dolls are just so lovely, thank you so much for sending your lovely photos.

Oh, Jeanne, what a scare for you losing your tax man and also for his wife! Prays going up for her and her family. At least you did get another one so quickly.
How nice to see a neat sewing room, and fun with Jan. The Easter International clothes sound so exciting to see. I hope you can get some photos for us!

Well, our guy is back to help in the yard, so I will turn off. Sorry for writing for two days in one. Have a blessed Easter and hope the rain doesn’t fall on the Easter Egg hunt.

  7. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Sissy! I like the 40’s girls too for the same reason you do! Those were some very happy years for me!

  8. Your hutch as well as your little shelf looks so pretty all decorated for Easter, Linda. I like your bunny on the island with his thoughtful gaze.
How beautiful Felicity, Cecile, and Kirsten are in their lovely dresses of blue.
The 40s girls are so sweet in the pastel and spring print dresses. I really like Betsy’s little peach dress and hat. I’m trying to see if Sara’s has violets. I love violets and all four of our varieties are blooming.
The modern girls look great. Molly’s table looks so springy.
I do have my Easter treasures decor out and the kitties have their special seasonal toys of course. The dress that RRFF Anaelle came in is perfect as is Charming Dorothy’s cream dress. Didn’t have the time to dress any PC/AG girl.
Wishing everyone a very Blessed Easter as we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection. â›ȘâœïžđŸŒ·đŸȘ»đŸŒ… ♄

  9. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Laura! I try to keep each scene color coordinated as well as I can. You know, former art teacher here!😊. It is fun to go from one era to another in dressing the dolls! I like the 40’s because I remember them the best. Of course, the earlier eras are before my time, and the modern dolls are more my daughter and granddaughter’s time. It seems that the more modern you get, the easier it is to dress them. The modern dolls have less to bother with in their outfits, but that’s the way it is now.

Sara does have some blue flowers in her hat, but I’m not sure if they are violets. I just try to match the hat for whatever outfit it goes on with the smaller dolls. In other words, it’s just a plain white hat, and I add things to it, not permanently. It is hard to find hats for their size.

  10. Barbara in SE Texas

Congratulations on getting you taxes back so quickly. And a refund too. I don’t think we will have to pay this year but we never get anything back, especially with the capital gains we’ve had over the past few years.

Sounds like you did well helping your friend with her dress. And you had plenty of time to visit too. Definitely a win-win for you both. Definitely looking forward to seeing some Easter pictures. I wouldn’t know what it is like to have a tidy organized sewing room since I have not spent any time in mine for months and just put things in there as my purchases arrive. I’m hoping maybe sometime today or definitely tomorrow. It’s such a struggle to move around right now that being in there is not the fun it used to be. Hopefully soon.

Linda, your hutch is absolutely beautiful. That would be a dream come true for me but I have no room for one right now. And all your Easter decor is wonderful and I know you are enjoying your scenes immensely.

Really gloomy outside right now but no rain. This morning David had a construction dumpster brought in. It was supposed to be placed further back on the property near the construction area. They plunked the unsightly thing right in my front yard. Ugh!! When David called them they told him they never put a dumpster on the grass. He said he didn’t know about what they did usually but right now that’s exactly where it is and they needed to come move it. We found out the other day we have to use the people who collect our trash when we need a dumpster. Well it took two weeks to even get the order placed and now this. We were told they have a contract with the city. Seems it may be time to review that and maybe get someone else because being the only option in town has made them inefficient, which is usually what happens.

  11. What a treat to see Linda’s pictures! I always enjoy them and whatever holiday her girls are celebrating.
Jeanne, no worries on your sewing room- I know you’ll get it done at some point.
I need and want to go through drawers all the time. I like them neat and organized and that they make sense!😂
I was kind of organizing my garage closets for my dolls/puzzles and then my Christmas cabinet and if I can find the pictures, I’ll send them to Jeannie to share with you, girls, and I forget who asked to see them. They are the greatest thing and I actually got six Christmas bin contents into one of them and just a few Christmas items in the other cabinet. It’s all part of my organization fettish!

I’ve missed commenting lately- I’ve had some health issues but I think things will be better.
Someone mentioned that there were several of us girls who live in two different places. We live in Perrysburg Ohio during the warmer months and we live in California in Rancho Mission Viejo, which is outside of San Juan Capistrano in the winter. Sometimes we stay later here and sometimes we spend more time in Ohio.

Everyone have a great weekend and a nice Easter!

    1. It is so nice to hear from you Paula!
Yes, no rush, but please share your fantastic organizing skills.
I am pretty smashed into our new house. Hubbs and I encouraged each other to not let go of things we were not sure of. So, we still have some… a lot of things we moved here to “think about”
I hope you have a wonderful Easter as well
Perrysburg Ohio sounds nice. We are in Northern Virginia.

  12. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Barbara! Looks like this is my third comment to you as the first one has since reappeared! My hutch is actually a part of the kitchen/dining area. I have no separate dining room, so this is at one end of the kitchen. When we bought our house, we were a young couple and had no dining room set, and thought we would be here for five years or so. I always wanted a separate dining room! Here we are 53 years later and the style nowadays is a combined kitchen/dining room! I’m glad now that we didn’t move to a bigger house, since this one works perfectly for us now.

  13. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Linda, your decorations are beautiful, and I always love your dolly displays. I particularly love Celine and Kirsten. I remember when I was a little girl really not liking twenties fashion then I read somewhere, years later that about 70 yrs has to pass before a fashion is appreciated. Do you think the 70’s fashion (particularly the men!) will be appreciated in 15 yrs time? Think ABBA, The Bee Gees and Elvis in Las Vegas!!!! By the Way, if, say on Antiques Roadshow they show a twenties gown I love it.
Barbara, I hope all your electrical/internet problems have been solved. The earthquakes, amongst all the terrible things that happened did help in some ways. Our underground water pipes were very old and so was our electrical systems. The city was forced to upgrade everything and make it earthquake proof. We used to get regular power cuts in bad weather but they are almost a thing of the past now and unlike Wellington which currently has so many problems with their water pipes bursting, we have very few leaks now.

Talking of earthquakes, Christchurch lost its big stadium, which used to host international Rugby, soccer and cricket games in the 2011 quake. They have been using a hastily built small stadium for Rugby called Apollo, but it is not big enough for international games. A new cricket ground was built but last night our local team hosted the final match at the Apollo stadium, we now have a new stadium which will have its opening games ANZAC weekend (25th April). It is called Te Kaha (Strength) and has a roof. All the NZ Super Rugby games that weekend will be played at the new stadium, Canterbury Crusaders play the opening (sold out) game.

Jeanne, our workroom is in a terrible state. When I lived here on my own everything had a place and I (nearly) always knew where to find things. Now I share it with Sam and she has all her stuff in there. My cake decorating stuff is relegated to the pantry and I have no idea what I will do if someone wants a cake decorated!

We are going out today to look for a new oven and a new bed for Asher. She has my old bed which I bought about 20 years ago and it is starting to fall apart.
    Have a great day everyone

    1. I am so happy to hear from you Anne.
Yes, funny thing about fashions indeed. I was never really too much of an outrageously trendy dresser, that I can think of anything regrettable. … perhaps a lot of lime green or pumpkin colors… icky combos.
Good luck shopping for things today. I hope you accomplish your goals 😀

    2. Hi Anne! Thank you so much for your kind words! I remember doing a lot of my sewing in then70’s and did my share of maternity dresses too during that time, I will say that the shift and tent dresses were very easy to make! And talk about short! When I look back at pictures now of what I wore, well, things were much too short! And to think that I complain now about short prom dresses and school clothes!

You always have such interesting insights about your life in New Zealand, and the more I hear about it, the more the same things we have here, like old water pimples and water main breaks. We have that all the time here in St.. Louis.

    3. Barbara in SE Texas

I can’t even imagine how horrible it must have been during your earthquake, but it’s good that something better has come from it. When we moved to Sealy, TX, it was truly a small town. Wish it had stayed that way, but we did have some infrastructure problems when people started moving here. We were constantly losing power because we added more houses to the same grid we had. We had great water then but when they had to drill a new well we ended up with too many minerals. I have a black tub and I cannot keep it looking nice. And waxing it is not a good idea because most of the problem is on the floor and I sure don’t want to wax that. Hope you found a new oven you liked and Asher found a great bed.

  14. Elizabeth in Texas

Linda….Loved viewing photos of your dolls all dressed in their Easter finery, along with the Easter decor so artfully displayed! I know that takes time to dress a collection of dolls, but it takes us back to when we were young! I always think I will dress my dolls for the Christmas holidays but by December, I am up to my eyeballs trying to finish my “Santa” figures and toy items for my 10 year old great-Granddaughter! My two Granddaughters are growing their families, and now there is baby Abagail who is not a year old yet, baby Chloe who is around 5 months, I think, and a new baby (a boy!) expected this July! I have lots of cloth doll patterns to work from for the baby girls and I am planning on making a “Woodland’s animal print” baby quilt for the baby boy.

And I have new Ruby Red doll patterns to try for my own doll collection (which will eventually go to my grown daughters and the Granddaughters), plus the Snowmen figures I want to create for this year’s Christmas. Never a dull moment! Must keep sewing while I can….the eyesight is not getting better (I imagine cataract surgery will help the vision). I worked yesterday on the Siblie equestrian riding hat and the tailored black jacket….but am finding that I can barely see what I am sewing with black thread on black fabric. A strong goose-neck lamp right next to the sewing machine helps a lot!

Just feel like mentioning that I am not too keen of this whole aging process! The eyesight; hearing loss (after today’s ear doctor appt., I will be seeing an audiologist for a hearing aid, in May); spinal stenosis in the lower back; increase in my thyroid and BP meds to bring levels up to par; insomnia. But the thing to do is keep right on trucking, try to think on the positive side (things could be worse), and give thanks to God for each day to be on earth and enjoy the things that we do!

I stubbed my toe about 6 weeks ago on our heavy footstool base and could tell I was going to fall forward, but did NOT want to land on my knee implants or a hip and chance a broken bone, so I reached forward for the lightweight wicker chair in front of me and the chair moved up against the bookcases, momentum had me going forward and I whacked my upper thigh hard on the footstool top while going down, and braced myself with my hands trying not to land hard on the knees. Nothing funny about falling, however, the funny part in retrospect was trying to get me up off the floor. I called for my daughter to come help me (I hollered out: “Come help me, I’ve fallen and can’t get up!”)

She tried lifting from the front and then the back side, but with my weight and me not able to apply my knee and foot pressure yet, to assist, until I assessed if they were okay…By this time I had rotated in a circle on my butt on the floor, while daughter was trying to think of something she could use to help lift me up! She got her small one-step stool from her closet, backed it up against an upholstered chair, and somehow we managed to get me up to sit on the little step-stool and then after resting a minute, I was able to use my arms and lift up onto the chair cushion! I sat there for an hour with large chilled ice-packs curved over both knees and wrists, and ended up with a large red and purple bruise on the thigh that lasted a week. And later that week, my sweet youngest daughter brought a “lift-assist belt strap”, to help in the event of a future fall!
Did I mention that now I try to keep my Skecher’s on ALL the time while walking anywhere and am walking even slower and more carefully than I did before the fall?

Sorry….I got off on a tangent from doll outfits! Have a blessed, peaceful Easter day!

    1. Keep enjoying the sewing, Elizabeth. I am greatly interested in any progress.
So sorry to hear about this fall you had 6 weeks ago. BE CAREFUL!! đŸ„° I get “klutzy” now and then. I really need to be more careful. – at the very least, have hubbs around when I am climbing on things.
I am glad your daughters are helping you. Yes, aging is annoying, I am not always quite sure whether to laugh or cry about it, but it is an emotional event for sure!
Happy Blessed Easter to you and your family

Thank you, Elizabeth! My goodness, you have a lot going on there, so don’t feel you have to be dressing your dolls too! And that fall sounded scary! Do take care of yourself! I have been down on the floor, fixing doll scenes, and find it harder and harder to get up too! My problem is that in addition to having two knee replacements, I also had foot surgery on both feet, and they are somewhat numb, so it is hard to figure out if I am really using them correctly, if that makes sense! Your gettingnupnsoundsncomical, but I am sure it wasn’t at the time!

When my husband was still living at home, I figured out that, if I set the 3-step step ladder by him when he’d fallen, he could pull himself up on it, by going “up the steps”. It worked very well! I usually would stand on the base on the back side, so it wouldn’t tip. The few times he fell when he actually injured himself, though (black eye, stitches, etc.) I would make him wait until the EMTs arrived to check him out and transport him to the ER.

I am very prone to falls, and have been much of my life, and almost always seem to land on my knees. I guess I’d better not get knee replacements, then, because that could be a really bad thing!

I have a friend whose father always said getting old is not for sissies. Now that my friend is at that point he says he totally understands what his father meant. My biggest problem right now is the problem that seems to have been created by my right lower leg that isn’t positioned right. It’s throwing off my whole body so I’m hoping my appointment with an orthopedic doctor will remedy that. Otherwise I seem to be doing okay. No arthritis and so far my eyesight is good except for that close-up thing. I have cheaters in every room and my purse. My hearing is excellent which is good because I’d hate to try to sing if it wasn’t. But when mobility is a problem one tends to put off doing many things. Even things that used to bring joy like sewing. I’m trying to do at least one thing a day even when it’s uncomfortable. Otherwise things really pile up – and they have been.

I once fell and the emergency people had to get me up enough to sit on a chair before they took me to the hospital. Nice people. but I thought they’d pull my arms out of the sockets, so I gave the matter some thought. I fell a year or so ago, scooted to the door, and called neighbors to help.

I held my arms stiff along my sides, bent at right angles at the elbow. I instructed my 2 neighbor men to put their hands under my forearms and lift on the count of 3. In one second I was back on my feet. They just stared. It so easy and painless. Just keep your arms stiff.

Wow, Marilyn. I’ll sure keep that suggestion in mine. Once after David had his knee replacements he was coming up from his shop in the dark. He tripped and fell. I just happened to be looking out wondering what was taking him so long when I saw the light from his phone. I ran outside and there he was trying to sit up. I knew I could not have lifted him up but thankfully Jason was still living next door so i went and got him. Even he had trouble and I thought we were going to have to call 911 but then he managed to stand him up. For a few days I kept watching him to make sure he was okay. Thankfully he was but it was a scary time.
