Hi everyone,
I think this may have been the fastest year I can ever remember. I called today and booked a room for our Married Couple’s Christmas Party! (What???) It still seems like we should be in summer, not Thanksgiving! Guess not! It was pretty cool here today and it’s getting colder the next few days. We have a 55% chance of snow on Saturday! The next 6 days it’s not supposed to get above 42 and the nights will be in the 20’s! BRRRR! I’m not ready for COLD weather!
Oh well, I don’t think the weather is going to listen to me… so I guess I’ll get over it! Cold outside, makes it easier to stay inside AND SEW!!! I did some sewing this evening. Earlier today I baked 2 crustless pumpkin pies and made my corn casserole. We are having a simple Thanksgiving dinner with probably just Kristoffer. That’s fine with me… I feel like being a “home-body” tomorrow!
Before I show you what I was sewing, I did take a few pictures of my blue glass jars in my kitchen window… I like them because I have a blue clock similar in color and a few other blue items in my kitchen…
To the right of my new blue jars, I have some handmade paperweights we found in an old house that was being torn down… They have the blue tones in them… can you see the man’s face in that one?
When Cindy and I went shopping, she found this sweet little green velvet purse and I decided it would be used for my first Christmas dress this year. I kept my word and Natasha will be gifted this sweet little treasure. It’s really adorable and handmade. My pictures are still not great… maybe Kristoffer can give me some pointers tomorrow…
Here it is with the dress that I’ve gotten started…The back does have some pink beads on it, but the front goes really well with the red fabric Cindy and I picked out. It took us a LONG time to decide what fabric to use with it.
I only was able to get the bodice embellished so far… but it’s a start.
I am still smitten by Natasha and hope you’ll like her “Debut” Christmas dress!
I may have to fix her hair in another style, but I really like her in the braids! :o)
Well, I have much to be thankful for and hope you do too! May you all be blessed today as we celebrate this day of giving thanks for so many things. My blessings are too numerous to count, but ALL of YOU are a big blessing to me!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Thanks for showing some daylight pictures of your blue jars, Jeanne. They really are pretty. Not “Mason jars” though! They look more like old-fashioned pill bottles that were closed with a cork in the top, at least to me. A Mason jar would have threads around the top for a screw-lid, or an appropriately shaped top to take a gasket and glass lid.
Your paperweights are lovely. I have a whole collection of paperweights (over two dozen, I think), and they are quite varied. Some are more modern, all one color glass with bubbles and things inside, some are the older style “millefiori”, with the flowers and things in the bottom and clear glass above, and some are animals! The prize is the lavender swan, which my parents brought home from their first trip to Sweden, some years ago. It was always a given that it would be mine, as it’s my favorite color, and so pretty! Very detailed, too! Anyway, this is all leading up to suggest you check the bottoms of your paperweights; there could be a brand name or artist name engraved either on the bottom or near the bottom. I suspect the one on the left might have that.
That little purse is darling, and you have a good start on Natasha’s dress! She is such a sweet little girl; I think you said she was by Joyce Matthews? Her dolls just have such a special “look” to them, and I have one, also! Mine is Heather Melissa, and she has curly auburn hair and big blue eyes.
Before I forget, Linda and Sissy, I added comments to your responses on yesterday’s blog.
I spent quite a bit of time on my feet today, what with errands and then preparing the stuffing for our turkey. The kids had a turkey for me this year (usually I get a turkey breast) so I had to dig out my cookbook and check the stuffing recipe! I make mine with apples and raisins as well as celery and onion.
And my big announcement: I was able to get my sneaker on my left foot today!! First time since I hurt it! It’s a little snug yet, and my foot still has a little swelling and soreness, but it is SO much better!! I’m still wearing the surgical shoe, but I might put my sneaker on when we go to the cemetery with flowers tomorrow, so my toes don’t get wet! (The surgical shoe is open-toed.)
A happy and blessed Thanksgiving Day to all who celebrate!
Excellent news Charlotte. I am so glad your foot/toe is healing.
I hope you have a wonderful day with the kids!
Oh dear, I lost my comment when my iPad froze up! Well, here goes again, but it won’t be long since I am watching two pies in the oven, which should come out soon. We will be going to our daughter’s for Thanksgiving, yay, no cooking for me! I have done it for 45 years or so, maybe more, and am now retired from that, finally! Along with pies, I will take cupcakes, since not everybody likes pumpkin pie. (What?)
Your glass bottles look so pretty with the light shining through, Jeanne! I got mine out to see if it was like yours, and it is! I sent you a picture of mine, but with the clear glass bottles, and then my handle is up, while yours is down.
I just love your beautiful paperweights! They are so pretty and shiny! Each one is prettier than the previous one!
That is going to be a darling dress! The little purse sure did give you the inspiration for making it, and I hope some green will be there in the skirt fabric somewhere!
Happy Th a ksgiving to everyone on the sofa!🦃
Jeanne, thank you for the lovely photos today, Your kitchen is just full of lovely colors! It is so good to see you sewing again, and such fun to see the red top on Natasha and the sweet little purse. I know you will be busy with dear family and cooking. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
Charlotte, so glad your foot is getting better, Happy Thanksgiving!
Linda, so glad you are happily going to your daughter for the big meal you don’t have to cook! I got stuck this year, since my niece and family decided to go out of town and the next down is me. I gave her ALL of my lovely Thanksgiving dishes and also every cute thing that went with them. My table today is NOT what I wanted, but that is life. I have a lot of good food so I guess no one will care but me.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all, and see you tomorrow.
Well, even though you no longer have the TK dishes, I’m sure your table will be lovely. And think, you won’t have to hand wash all of those dishes and serving pieces. I remember the hours it took to do the clean up when I used to host.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Sissy, even though your special holiday dishes are being passed down to another, I understand what you are feeling. I have a huge set of holiday dishes too- English bone China – they are delicate and trimmed in gold – impossible to put in a dish washer or microwave. When we would clear the table, only I allowed myself to wash them by hand as they were so delicate. And generations now don’t want them so they sit all pretty in a hutch in storage. I use them though for holidays still but none of our children or nieces want them. I totally stopped adding pieces to the set because of that. It was sad but reality. I certainly understand what you’re feeling.
Dear Sissy,
I understand as well except I LOVE the dishes my maternal grandparents had that now we do. So grateful we got them. My grandfather’s sister sent it as a gift after the war. One is a German made set. ivory, trimmed in gold that is service for 12 with every piece you can possibly imagine -platter, serving bowls, plates, salad plates, bread and butter plates. two handled soup bowls, dessert plates, cups and saucers, coffee pot, and two tea pots. I may be missing something. Must always be washed by hand as well. They always bring back Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter memories.
It’s wonderful your niece wanted and appreciated your gift.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. I hope you have a safe travel day or just a happy day with friends and family.
Jeanne, your treasures are very pretty. I love the blue jars. Those paper weights are beautiful and a little bit creepy…. I just watched a video… well a few weeks ago, on youtube and a person working with glass. It is an interesting process.
Hubbs and I are leaving soon to go to my sister in Maryland. It will just be the three of us. I just want to eat all of the pie.
Enjoy your day dear ones,
Now, I wonder who would leave behind paperweights in an old abandoned house? That would make a great read should Jeanne decide to write something. You know, The Adventures of Jeanne and the lost paperweights. 🙂 And the window decor is lovely. I’d love to find one of those holders and add some Mason jars or milk bottles. The view of the bottles and beyond in the yard is stunning. I’d probably never get anything done glancing out there all of the time. Lucky Jeanne.
I spent most of yesterday getting things ready to take to the feast at daughter’s today. Never did get those pictures that I wanted to take. Maybe that is good as it gives me more time to decide which dollies need pictures.
I know Jeanne said she was going to have a high of only what 42? Here it’s only 43 this morning so we are so cold. It’s not like we’re up in the mountains and wearing ski clothes. Just cold and we have a fog warning. Hopefully, by the time we leave the fog will have lifted. That tule fog can be very dangerous.
We did get in a walk yesterday and stopped to say goodbye to our friend Paul, who is moving to Panama. In fact, he’s on his way right now to SF to catch his flight. Then, another to the second largest city there where he’s picking up a rental car if all works in his favor. Then, another several hours drive to where he will be staying. He has no kids or much family and has always wanted to do this. We think he’s crazy, but with the way things are going here, understandable. We will miss him.
Have a delicious Thanksgiving everyone and enjoy the day whatever you do. 🙂
I forgot to mention the next dress start. Natasha, will not want to give up that purse. It is so special. The dress looks more pink to me than red, but that is probably my eyes. Can’t wait to see it as it comes along. Natasha, will love it. 🙂
Even though I think those blue jars are really pretty sitting in front of the window, the view of your yard is spectacular! What a nice picture that makes doing anything there in the kitchen!
I did see the man in the light colored paperweight. Interesting!
Natasha is an adorable little girl. Her face is so cute. I think you found a great little model. She looks sweet but mischievous. And the start of the Christmas dress:outfit already looks festive. The little purse is perfect. What a great find that is too! That was nice of Cindy – she always finds special things… just like you.
I hope everyone enjoys their day today no matter what or where you go or don’t go. Since our children are too far away, we are spending Thanksgiving Day with another couple in the same situation. However, we always zoom with the kids if we’re not together.
It’ll still be a fun day- hopefully I can sneak a peek at the Chiefs game!
I am so thankful for so many things in my life- especially for my family and friends and that includes the lovely kindhearted ladies who enjoy their seat on Jeanne’s sofa. She brought us all together over the years. And I have to thank Dorothy for giving us all the name of “Sofa Sisters” because of how Jeanne and all of you share your lives and the love we all have for our dolls.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
Since my comments usually disappear, I’ll just wish everyone a good Thanksgiving and see if this takes.
It worked. I’ll press my luck.
Yesterday I got handicapped plates for my car. Who knows, maybe they’ll help. After all, I was sent to a hospice 6 years ago and lived. Maybe if I have handicapped plates, I’ll figure out how to walk with less effort. Worth a try.
I’m grateful for all the people who do work like the people at the DMV, and I’m thankful for the 30 years I spent as a teacher. Both jobs help other people, but mine had more independence and variety and I got to see results.
Natasha is a darling and it looks like the new dress will be perfect for her. We too may have snow this weekend. When it’s cold and I’m housebound, I look out and remind myself that snow means fewer summer fires and I’m grateful for every flake.
The paperweights are very interesting. We have the two that my grandfather’s friend, a glassblower in Germany, gave to him as a going away gift when he was nineteen and came to the US.
Natasha looks lovely in the start of her new dress. The little purse is very sweet.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Jeanne, and all the other dear Sofa Sisters.
Have a lovely day everyone. Today it is going to be 27C (about 85F) yesterday (Thursday) and Wednesday it was 30C. Way too hot for me.
Jeanne, I love Natasha she is so sweet. The little bag is lovely and goes beautifully with the fabric. It is great to see you sewing again.
Joy, I sent you an e mail, don’t forget to look in your spam lol
I am off to face another enervating, exhausting day combatting temps we aren’t used to!
Happy Thanksgiving
