Hi everyone,
I hope everyone had a nice time with their family or friends yesterday! But, here’s the question of the day? Who ate too much???
I will confess, I was a nibbler yesterday. I did very good at lunch, but it was the non-stop grazing I did the rest of the day that might have me regretting getting on the scale tomorrow morning. Oh well, I’ll work on that later! :o)
Being that it’s Black Friday today, are any of you shoppers who get out for the sales?
After Kristoffer left, we did watch the Kansas City Chiefs football game… but “alas” our team lost. They tried but they came up short to the Dallas Cowboys.
Then it was time to do something more on Natasha’s dress or I’ll have to save it for Valentine’s Day! EEK!
My camera is NOT picking up the true color of this red fabric… Joy said it looked pink and it actually did when I looked at it with “different” eyes. It’s RED… with the leaves outlined in a fine black line.
I worked this evening but just have the sleeves to show you. I must be getting slower in my sewing, or maybe I’m too picky… and that slows me down. Here’s what it looks like now with sleeves…
Look at this little cutie sitting in Mae’s chair for now…
I did notice something and wanted to ask if you see it to… it’s about the buttons… The left side looks good to me, but the right side looks like it’s slanted to the right just a hair…
I’m going to measure it tomorrow and see… I spent a long time “thinking” I had gotten them just perfect, but now they are bugging me.
‘IF” they are off, I may have to change the lace at the waist to accommodate the scallops. We’ll see…
That’s all I managed to accomplish, but I did want to share one more thing… Remember when Linda said she had the same glass jars as mine, in her kitchen window? Well, she sent me a picture of hers…and a bit of an explanation.
Jeanne, how about this? It looks identical to yours, except for the colored bottles.
It fits nicely on the little windowsill that I have over the sink! I have a little scarecrow there now for fall with colored leaves, and will very soon change out that for Christmas decorations. I had to get this out again to show you, and you can see it is still dark out because it is only 4:50 a.m.! It looks prettier when the light comes through and you can see the yard in the background.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Love you,
Linda๐๐ฆ
This is mine again… with a little bit clearer look outside. The handle on mine raises up too, Linda, but it cuts right into my flowers, so I just keep it down…
Remind me again, and I’ll tell the story about the paperweights…
Well, that’s all from me and Linda…
Have a wonderful weekend and stay WARM!
Blessings, Jeanne

I think your pictures today make that fabric look more of a true red than the one yesterday, Jeanne, so it seems you may have been able to make it work properly. Of course, I don’t have the fabric in front of me to compare, either.
As to the buttons on Natasha’s dress…are you talking about the right side as WE are looking at it, or on Natasha’s right side? I think if it’s the right side as WE are looking at it, then, yes, I think it does slant every so slightly. That said, I think I would have just used one row of three buttons down the front; two rows, and spaced that far apart, doesn’t look quite right to me, for some reason. Or maybe just leave them off altogether? I’ll be interested to see what everyone else’s take is on the buttons. It might just be me.
Linda, your set of bottles is very pretty, too. And your bottles are round, where Jeanne’s are square.
Had a good day today–our son is here and was a big help with the turkey–I can’t lift an 11 pound turkey (plus stuffing plus roaster pan!) as easily as I once could My turkey was practically picture-perfect, so evenly browned, I just couldn’t have asked for nicer! And delicious, too! I now have two good-sized packages of turkey in the freezer, and more in the fridge, plus the carcass for soup!
We also visited the cemetery and took flowers to both Ron’s and my parents’ graves. Daniel is here again tonight, too, so I’m looking forward to some help with projects tomorrow! Maybe…!!
However, I do not go shopping on Black Friday. There’s really nothing I need so urgently that I have to go on that day! The exception might be the grocery store, but definitely Not the mall!!
Oh, and I wore BOTH sneakers to the cemetery today! Yay!!
such great news update from you Charlotte. So happy you could go to the cemetery as well. It is windy and really cold here in Northern Virginia, the temp says 39 but I believe the wind chill is colder.
I am glad you have goodies stocked away in the freezer
I too thiink that the red of the material shows up better today, Jeanne, as Charlotte mentioned. And yes, the buttons on the right side as we look at it, do curve to the right ever so slightly. I think it is the last button that is spaced a tad farther down that does it. Otherwise, it is a darling bodice!
I am happy to say that I kept my Thanksgiving dinner in check, not overstuffing my plate, and had a nice piece of pie too! Iโm like you on the snacking part, just nibbling here and there, which really doesnโt help. I need to back to actually counting the calories, which helped me to lose 15 pounds earlier in the year.
Oh heavens, no Black Friday shopping for me, except I will head to the grocery store extra early, since we will be getting winter weather tomorrow. I donโt mind a pretty snowfall, but not when we are out of food!
I really canโt see that your bottles are square like Charlotte mentioned, but do notice that the necks of the bottles are different. Yours are shorter and wider, and mine are longer, and more slender.
Charlotte, so glad you got both sneakers on yesterday! Progress!
Dear Linda, your window display looks lovely! Thanks for sharing.
Peyton and I were exhausted last night but our four guests were so appreciative it was worth it. I had to include my 3 door down neighbor because no one else asked her. I know why. She NEVER stops talking!! I was working in the kitchen which is open to the living room and I could hear her the whole time, and have known her for years and I wasn’t surprised. I could see my brothers face! Finally after dinner I joined the group and managed to get the others talking together, otherwise it was a lovely day.. The turkey my brother bought cooked was delicious, and huge. Every one took home left overs and I got rid some of my little plastic boxes that have multiplied in our big drawer.
Some how the food tastes better the second day because it is just the 2 of us and all ready to eat.
Jeanne, the little bodice is darling! The photo does us a bit off center so, to me, it is hard to tell if the buttons are “off” side. Maybe when you measure them it will come out ok. Looking forward to seeing the rest! Also the story of the paperweights!
Charlotte, happy for your feet wearing sneakers!
Linda, your flowers are so pretty in your window. Looking forward to seeing what you put in for Christmas. Maybe we should all send photos of our kitchen windows! What fun!
We are off to the Y again and then the GA/GA Tech game. Go Dawgs!!
Jeanne, the red is nice and red on my phone screen. It’s a gorgeous color.
Oh, Natasha’s sweet dress looks red to me today. All is well! As to the buttons, I’m not sure at all. I see a lot of things that look wavy now and aren’t. Jeanne’s eyes will decide. ๐
So fun seeing Linda’s bottle display that is a match for Jeanne’s. It too is lovely. Here, I also have a shelf above the sink. But, mine sports small bottles of varying styles and colors and in all greens. I’ll see if I can get a pic of it later as it is a cold 44 right now. Might need to wash a window though. Ha ha.
Anyway, we had a wonderful time with family and a trafficless drive home after. The kids had on the turkey costumes and were sprinting all over the neighborhood. Oldest grand riding on his new mountain bike. Now, on to the Christmas crunch. Yikes, better get that shopping done soon.
Plans today will be a turkey sandwich with some cranberry and maybe some broccoli casserole as well. Yesterday, there were so many different pies that no dessert is needed today. Pecan, apple, and Costco pumpkin to name a few. The star was a special ice cream cake shaped like a turkey for oldest grands fifteenth birthday. I think it was maybe chocolate chip ice cream but covered with brown carmel. Kind of scary to see. ๐
Hope everyone had a fun day and now it’s on to decorating for the holidays. Well, maybe for some. Daughter already has her tree up and decorated and lights on the house too. Such an achiever. ๐
On my computer, that red is a completely beautiful, absolutely red red., and a perfect color for Natasha. I agree with Sissy that the angle of the picture is not exactly straight on, so I’m not sure about the straightness of the buttons. If they aren’t straight, they are very close. The sleeves and the neckline are wonderful. The dress will be perfect for both Christmas and Valentine’s.
I had a peaceful Thanksgiving. I taught for 30 years, and having tons of grading and finals stuff to work on during the holiday season always made it horribly stressful, so peaceful is something I’m grateful for. I would not have traded teaching for anything else, but I don’t miss the stress — or the grading. This was college, so anyone not doing the work thoughtfully dropped out and I didn’t have to fail anyone.
Actually I did have a few people who were not going to finish — they knew it and I knew it, but they liked their classmates so much that they came right up to the end and just skipped the final activities, trusting that anyone who knew what they were doing would remain silent. It was a great compliment to us.
Anastasia is absolutely adorable – you definitely found a cute RR. And her dress’s is really a pretty red – just like Santaโs red suit!
I agree with the Sofa Girls on the buttons.
I had never seen jars in a wire basket like Jeanneโs and Lindaโs till now – I know โฆ where I have been! but they are so perfect for kitchen windows.
I have an old milk bottle with green lettering on it but I forget what it says- obviously it was a milk glass bottle from long ago. Wonder if Lindaโs and Jeanneโs are old glass bottles for something else or just created for decoration?
Charlotte glad you got to wear both shoes. It seems when our feet and hands are injured, it really takes a toll on our activities. So itโs good to hear your foot is continually improving.
Sissy, glad your dinner went well and it sounds like your guests enjoyed it and your hard works. We enjoyed our invite to our friends home. It was a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. I didnโt over eat but enjoyed Costcoโs famous pumpkin pie- the best ever!! I was too full though to snack after.
Now, itโs on to Christmas. I got my trees decorated and other Christmas decor up around the house.
I used to have red and green bins for all my Christmas decorations, sitting in a storage unit, so hauling them in, digging stuff out, finding a place to put the decorations became exhausting. So, my husband got me a large metal cabinet for out in the garage and I store them in the cabinet now. Itโs fantastic- I go out and gather items off the shelves on a cart, wheel them in and using pictures of where the decorations go the year before, Iโm done in hours. Of course, putting the ornaments on the trees takes time but itโs become so much easier. I donated all 6 bins to an animal rescue thrift shop.
I can now enjoy the Christmas decorations earlier with less stress.

I’ll bet that your decorations are lovely. Daughter had their tree up yesterday and it was lovely. The one here, well at the other house, is still in the box. Guess we’ll have to move the electric generator before we can put it up. Always something to do around here. ๐
Good afternoon dear ones.
Jeanne and everyone, so glad to be back the day after Thanksgiving. I do not shop BlackFriday because there never is really a “sale” is there?
Jeanne, I still love your kitchen sill arrangement and it is very sweet that Linda has one similar!!
The red dress. I love it. The buttons are reminding me of apron straps… or when you attach the skirt will the lace at the waist be turned down?
Or is it to look like a “bib” sort of thing. If you have tinier buttons, you could line them up three in a row over the top of each higher portion of the lace. Then it will look kind of like a buttoned up feature. If you do not have tinier buttons, then perhaps some kind of embroidered motif in front? flowers and beads?
I love the red dress!!!!!
I slept kind of poorly last night, my brains were still spinning from driving the Washington Beltway to Silver Spring from Brambleton Va in the morning and then driving home in the dark. Driving the Washington Beltway is like riding a rolling parking lot roller coaster, everyone is going a minimum of 75mph or over. There are a lot of bad drivers too. So, by the time we made it home (I drove both ways) My head was spinning from all of that “alertness”
Hubbs and I had a nice Thanksgiving with my older sister Joyce. I have another older sister but she is in Heaven 25 years now (smoking/brain aneurysm) So it was nice to focus on Joyce and eat a lot. I made a lot of dishes and she did too. We spent a lot of time taking about everything including health insurance with open season for most people.
Today I feel a bit “beat” but I will make it up tonight. I am taking it easy, considering driving to the old house to see what old Christmas decorations I have left behind. It is really windy outside. I remember when taking care of my mom and dad for 12 years, going for a walk every day and complaining about the nasty cold wind. It is a good day to be outside if you are really bundled up!
Don’t people wear eye goggles/like ski mask in bitter cold states like the Dakotas or such. That wind is rough on our eyes.
YES, many people have their Christmas trees and lights and every single possibly invented decoration up. I saw a lot of festive properties in Maryland.
Abundant inflatable decorations.
I hope everyone has a good day, and a good week-end. we do need to work off those calories, so just do some vacuuming, then you have achieved fitness calorie burn and clean carpets ๐๐๐
No, no overeating here. Also no, no Black Friday sales except I will take advantage of the one Chewy has to get things my kitties need. The idea of fighting mall traffic is extremely unappealing. I love visiting our little shops in town during the season, but that’s only two blocks.
We got the outside Christmas decorations up this morning. A fraction of what we used to do, but still pretty. It was either today or tomorrow to have them up in time for Advent. Today, first the Christmas toys for the kitties come out and then I will see about the inside decorations.
Natasha’s dress is lovely. I see it as a deep red on my laptop. I love the squared neckline (I’ve always liked those) and the lace on the sleeves.
Linda, your bottle set is very pretty as well.
Jeanne the dress looks really red today, very pretty. Yesterday it was definitely pink. The right hand buttons are just a hair off to me as well but rather than remove the lace I think if you move the bottom left button a hair to the left the scallop would still be centred and it would make the right button look straighter. Or at least it would look as though you meant it that way.
Charlotte I am so glad you were able to wear your sneakers out. Definite progress.
Everyone seemed to have enjoyed Thanksgiving, I can’t imagine having a major holiday so close to Christmas!
Today Sam and I are going to work on cleaning up the workroom. Jono’s room is empty because he is away so we can put all the boxes in there and bring them out one at a time. We have a month to get them all sorted. I need it cleaned up so I can make my mince pies and shortbread. My kitchen is way too small for large scale baking. I wish I could send some to you all but I will send a photo so you can have virtual mince pies. I don’t like the bought ones the pastry is way too sweet.
Have a great day everyone
The mention of mince pies brings back memories of my grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and baker. There was always a mince pie along with others at our family holiday gatherings. Both of her paternal grandparents were born in the Somerset region of England. I’m sure that is where her baking skills originated.
Don’t work too hard on the clean up. ๐
Dear Jeanne, I like what you have done with the dress so far. I think that Natasha might be a cute Santa’s helper when you are finished.
