Is American Girl, Kate, looking ready for Easter???

HI everyone,
I was helping my hubby today with transporting the church vans again today to the shop for new tires and a few other things for him, so again, (sigh) my sewing time was limited, but I do have some pretty pictures to show you.

I ran some blue embroidery floss through the beading of the Swiss Embroidery I had fashioned into a collar. I hope these pictures don’t remind Conni and Joy of clowns now. Yesterday when I showed the collar, it wasn’t fastened in the back yet, so it seemed kind of springy like and not as “in place” as it is now. I also added a button and elastic loop on the back of the neck for an easy way to put it on and finished it off with a small blue silk ribbon bow at the front.

I hope you think it’s better… in person, it’s very sweet looking.

Charlotte, I don’t think this pattern comes in the Ruby Red Fashion Friends size, but it could probably be reduced and possibly work. I really do like this pattern. I think it’s so flattering, and yes, Linda, I think Molly would look wonderful in this.

Joy, I wanted to show you how the belt is attached… the tucks are made on the front, pressed, but not stitched down, until the belt is inserted or tucked into the pleat closest to the front… You pin it in place and then when you topstitch down the front pleat, it stays in place. You just have to be careful you get the belt on both sides even as you look at the front of the dress.

Rosemary, you asked if I made any patterns yet… No… not yet, only for myself so far… but I have been reading up on it. I know it can’t be that hard, but so far, I haven’t done it…

Laura, I had to laugh at what you said about the winner last night of Mini Bailey’s dress set… Yes, the winner certainly did have Dolly Fever to the Max, to buy the doll before she even had won the outfit.. That has happened to me twice… where ladies had to buy the doll to go with the outfit from me… but they waited until they were certain they had won the auction! :o)

Dorothy L… I liked that cream and black lace collar version of this dress TOO! It made me stop and really look at it… I might have to try that… and I have a cream and black fabric I’m already thinking of… :o)

Paula, yes, Kate still has that shine mark on her cheek… Of all places, it would have to be right in the middle of her blush! UGH… I’m going to work on it, but I wanted to get her dress set finished first. As I looked at my pictures, I could see how much dirt I missed on her face, even after I thought I had cleaned it really well… guess not!! Sometimes in the light it looks shiny and sometimes it looks like a dark mark.

And Nancy, how fun it must have been for your mom to sit with Mary Hoyer and do their creative sewing together while you played… That is a really nice memory!

Okay, now back to a few more pictures… I made a pair of white lacy socks for this dress set. It looks like I’ve pulled one higher than the other…

This is how she looks head to toe…

I’m still going to make her a hair bow… instead of that little clip…

Well, that’s it for me today,
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, I for one loved the collar as it was yesterday, but it does look better today with the more permanent method of holding it in place! I wasn’t sure it needed the blue floss woven thru the little eyelets, but it really does add a lot. The bow is pretty, but I’m not positive it would be my choice; I liked it without.

All in all, this is a really lovely outfit. (My Molly says she’d like it in a RED print–that’s her favorite color!! LOL)

What a sweet dress for Kate…….and Molly! I think the embroidery thread through the collar was the perfect thing to highlight it without being too showy or overdone, and the bow is just perfect! So I am guessing the collar is removable, as well as the bow, to give it a different look! It does not look clownish to me at all with the added embellishments!

I love her anklets with your blue shoes too, and that hair bow we have yet to see, will be the perfect crowning touch! Just give her an Easter basket or a bunny, and yes, she WILL be ready for Easter!

  3. A detachable collar is an excellent choice for this dress. Makes it a Sunday church dress looking so prim n proper or without the collar and fancy slip to be a depression era school dress. Changing collars could be such a fun option, with colors, prints, trims, narrow lace etc. I like the basic dress very much.

  4. I guess I missed where you said what pattern you used. Can you tell us again. I love Kate’s dress! She is so beautiful in it. As far as the mark on her cheek, it could just be a birthmark. That is if you don’t want to try to remove it. Just saying.

I do like how the collar is laying flatter today and the blue stitching is sweet. I’m with Charlotte on the bow. Doesn’t do anything for me. Perhaps, a thinner ribbon and a smaller bow with a mini sparkle button in the middle for some glam? Regardless, the dress is adorable and will be a great hit. Thanks so much for explaining the belt/pleats in front. Here I was thinking that the belt went through the middle under the pleats when it did not. Lightbulb moment. 🙂 Gloves have been mentioned above, and if you go with those, I hope they are not fingerless. I really have never liked them as even my Ginny dolls from the 50’s had regular short gloves. 🙂
And we finally have sun this morning. Yay. Hope everything dries out as it is a bog in most places around here.

Joy can you share some of your rain, we desperately need it lol.
After your post yesterday I checked my spam mail and what do you know there was Jeanne’s blogs along with a letter from my brother! I usually check the spam regularly so I don’t know why I didn’t this time. Thanks for the head’s up.

Well, maybe we can fill up one of our super tankers that are used for fire fighting and send it on over. Wish we could. Looks like this summer we shouldn’t have much of a drought problem at all. Also glad you found missing items in spam. I too should be checking it more regularly. 🙂

I had another idea. What about a tiny bow made from matching embroidery floss?? I think that would be very cute. 🙂

  6. I have been reading for years, rarely comment.
Thank you dear for telling me about your patterns
Many years ago, I bought a lot of baby doll patterns, the fluffy dresses and other things. They did not fit our AG dolls but I did learn and fiddle with those patterns. I know that is a great way to learn. Where do you buy your dress patterns. They are exquisite and your skills are top notch. I just love the dresses!! and all of your dolls

This is wonderful. You made the perfect choice for the collar and I love the blue woven through it. She looks delightful, right down to the sweet socks!

Kate looks lovely in her pretty Easter dress. I love this pattern and the fabric is wonderful. I’ve seen you make up this fabric into several things and they are all great. The fabric is very versatile. I’ve been absent from the blog for a couple days but I want to say that I think Kate is a beautiful doll and you cleaned her up nicely. Can’t wait to see what you do for her hair adornment.

  9. This is such a sweet dress, whether for Easter or as a school dress. The collar makes it more dressy so for school, it’s nice that it can be taken off. Her socks are perfect for the outfit. Sweet and girlish.

Gosh, it is too bad her mark is on her face – like you said, of all the places. You mention the very light sand paper or mesh- wouldn’t that scratch the vinyl?
I changed the wig on one of my AMG dolls and once it was off, she had several purple marks on her scalp – looked like bruising. Since things covers it, I’m curious as to how that happens to vinyl.
I imagine some marks on the vinyl bodies and faces come from the dolls being handled over a period of time? Regardless, when the marks are there, I imagine they’re hard to remove.
Once I’m home, I’ll have to look over my AMG’s to see who I named Kate, like yours.
I have a AMG girl named Laura after someone we all know. I need to make sure the eye color is correct though. 😉

I love this dress on Kate and her name. Looks like Kit but not Kit. The collar is a nice touch in that delicate fabric and the floss ties it to the dress. I feel like the blue bow pulls the eye away from the other lovely features. All in all, a winner!

  11. Kate looks very sweet. I love the dress pattern and fabric. The socks are so cute. Gloves would be the perfect finishing touch. Yes, fingerless gloves were Colonial mitts, Civil War, Victorian, and then 1980’s fashion statement. The 1930’s would have definitely been gloves with fingers.

Jeanne I think the dress is lovely. I thought the lace would be nicer but now you have finished it I think you made the right choice. I looked at the pattern again and I don’t know how you do it but your dress is way better than the one shown on the pattern, especially the collar yours seems to lie much flatter. I wasn’t keen on the pattern when I looked at it but now I have seen what you have done with it I love it.

Jeanne, I LOVE that pattern and the fabric is gorgeous. I love everything about it except the blue bow, but since the buyer can remove it, that works. the other thing is the button on the lace looks too big. Other wise it is perfect!
