Do you think Noel’s dress set is looking Valentine-ish yet?

I can only hope I get at least one Yes! Stay with me a few more days and a few more embellishments, if you please! This is just the basics so far… the pantalettes are in a tan and cream tiny check… it was the only thing that really went with the dress. I had some pink and white checked fabric, as Joy suggested, but I only had it in white and pink, and it just didn’t go. The fabric’s paisley’s are a kind of creamy yellowish color, so the white just did not go. I had some pink and white polka dot and it didn’t go either. But when I put this tan checked with it, it looked warm and complementary… again, you’ll have to stay tuned to see how it all turns out.

I first made the pantalettes… here they are… Just easy pullups.

Here is the the dress with the snaps sewn on the back and some tiny pink buttons added…

It’s kind of a warm and comfy Valentine’s Day dress…I’m not done yet… the best is yet to come! :o)

You can see I also changed the shoelaces to a brown instead the white cord.

I actually made 2 wool felt jackets… I used the pattern marked for Noel and I know it’s worked before, but for some reason, this time it was too small. It didn’t cover the front enough and was too tight in the sleeves… Here is the first one…

So…I redid the pattern enlarging it where it needed it and made the sleeves a bit wider… it turned out much better and Noel said it was much more comfortable. That’s what counts, I guess! :o)
Here are some pictures of her in it…

She kept wanting to fall over. One of her legs is shorter than the other so it does make it hard sometimes to have to stand upright without anything to hold onto.

But in the end, I managed to get a few cute pictures of her… when she fell over, I decided to take a picture because sometimes the light is better when my dolls are laying flat on their backs.

Here is a close up again, of the colors together.

I hope to find time over the weekend to get this wrapped up…

I’ll see you Monday…
Blessings, Jeanne

That tiny check is just right with the paisley print! At first I thought maybe the bloomers should have been a little shorter, and then I remembered how, when I was in 1st and 2nd grades (and maybe longer, I don’t remember), if it was really cold outside, we would have to wear slacks or snowpants under our dresses when we went to school. (They were taken off once we got inside, of course–girls weren’t allowed to wear slacks in school back then!) The way the bloomers’ length is now, it kind of remind me of that–it’s a chilly day and she need slacks underneath her dress to keep her little legs warm! Or perhaps so that she can play on the jungle gym at recess!!

How odd, that the first felt jacket didn’t fit her correctly, and it being a pattern you’ve used before, too! Unless…might the line have been the stitching line and not the cutting line? But you worked it out. Now, I wonder what kind of embellishments you’re going to add????

I definitely remember the days of wearing slacks under my dresses to school and taking them off in the “cloak room”. We didn’t have lockers in elementary school but had cloak rooms for our coats, boots, etc. So many of those old schools have now been torn down because they did not meet modern fire codes often having three or four stories. I was sad to see them go because they were true neighborhood schools. New schools were built but no longer in neighborhoods, with the exception of the school I attended in 1st and 2nd grade that was on a large enough piece of property to expand and still remain no more than two stories. It is still a neighborhood school that children walk to. But since a lot of moms work and kids cannot go home for lunch as we used to, it does have a cafeteria that it didn’t have when I went there.

I love the way the colors mesh together, Jeanne, and yes, I do think it looks Valentine-ish, espeically when you get the embellishments on the jacket! I don’t ever remember wearing a dress or anything else with hearts on it for Valentines Day when small. We just wore regular clothes, like a special occasion dress, and something you could wear other times too. Maybe a little Valentine pin on the jacket, that could be removed when dressing for other occasions. That’s probably what we would do “way back when”!

This will be a darling set that anyone would love to have! What size is Noel?

Here we go again, back in the freezer with a bit of snow and a lot of wind! Still winter!!!

I never had a special dress for Valentine’s Day either but I remember having one for St. Patrick’s day. Probably because that was my sister’s birthday and my mother bought them for us to wear for her party.

That’s a perfect February/March outfit. I like the warm and cozy Valentine’s look. I’m assuming a simple bonnet to match the jacket, and I’m looking forward to the embellishment you choose.

A Valentine box might be fun, but so would a purse or a harmonizing candy bar for the winner. You said the boots were a bit big, but they work with the pantalettes. Altogether, it’s another success.

Sorry the first jacket didn’t fit. I’m sure that it might fit a smaller doll though. 🙂 I think Noel, will look Valentinie with a big festive bow in her hair or a heart pin, necklace, or bracelet. The color of the pants matches the dress nicely. I do like to see a regular waistband that matches the pants. Then they can be used with a different top for another look. I think Noel might need a little Valentine box to take to school to receive Valentines or maybe some Valentines with envelopes to give to her best friends. 😉
Rain supposed to start here around 10:00 AM. Hope everyone is keeping warm.

    1. Hi Joy,
Funny about your squirrels climbing and then sliding down from the feeder. Yes, the squirrels have replaced a few bulbs here or moved them to another location. I noticed the other day there were some holes in the bed where we had planted the garlic. Sure enough, some holes are missing garlic cloves and now have black walnuts in their place. There was pretty fine metal grating across the bed so I’m not sure how the squirrels even managed the feat.

Those squirrels probably had their friends hold up the grating while one of them got under and buried those black walnuts. They are so clever. 🙂

  5. The tan check coordinates very well. Still not feeling the dark brown jacket for Valentine’s Day or spring, and I’d prefer pink ribbon shoelaces.

I like the fabric for the pantalettes. It definitely coordinates. This is a sweet little outfit and I can’t wait to see the further embellishments. I have a Boneka doll like Noel and read somewhere that many wish their leg was not bent. It gives them a cute look, but they have to be leaned against something unless you use a stand.

I meant to add something yesterday when we were discussing sneaking things into the house. My grandfather was a wonderful man and a great husband to my grandmother, but he did have his limits, especially when it came to major expenditures. He gave my grandmother money to run the house each week but did not micromanage her use of it and she was frugal, but all major decisions had to have his input. One time she decided she needed some new living room chairs and found some she could not live without. But she was concerned that if they came home on time payments my grandfather would make her send them back. So what did she do? She had them sent to her good friend down the street (with the woman’s approval of course) until she could pay them off. I don’t know how she got them on time payments without my grandfather’s approval but she did. Needless to say he was a bit put out when the chairs showed up but he had a lot of respect for my grandmother and I think he was a bit amused by her cleverness and it became quite a joke between them. But she never did anything like that again so I’d say they both got their way.

I had an interesting experience last evening when we went out for our anniversary dinner. I had bought a new outfit – slacks, top and one of those filmy short duster tops. While I was eating I reached down for my napkin and when I touched my right leg I felt skin. I had to hem the pants and ironed them and noticed nothing amiss. Well during dinner I kept my napkin over that spot and my hand over it when I was leaving the restaurant. When I got home I looked at the problem and it seemed the serger threads had not interlocked like they were supposed to for about four inches. I love the outfit and knowing how to sew it isn’t worth sending back so I’ll just reinforce all the seams. But I am going to mention this in a review. I’ll say it is a lovely outfit and fits well but before you wear it make sure you check the seams. It actually could have been a far worse situation than it was.

    1. Hi Barbara, your grandmother was very clever. My grandfather always encouraged my grandmother to replace things when she felt they should be. Going shopping once in a while when I was there was a big treat. My grandmother sewed a lot of clothes etc. but if she saw a dress she liked my grandfather always wanted to get it for her.

Dear Barbara, oh my goodness! I am glad you discovered the hole before you stood up. It is fortunate that you can sew.

I love the story about your grandmother.

    3. Joy in northern CA

Saved a disaster. So glad that you discovered the seam defect and could cover it up.
Sounds like your grandmother was a kick. Had to get those chairs somehow. 🙂

    4. What great stories! Good grief that seam coming open is surprising! Glad it was just a small spot.
      Your Grandma is a hoot… so smart…that poor Grandpa didn’t have a chance🤭

  7. I like Noel’s outfit. It looks warm and cozy. i’m sure once the jacket gets embellished it will be perfect for Valentine’s.

  8. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I am looking forward to seeing how the outfit turns out. Noel is such a cutie.

  9. Hi Everyone,
Have had issues with my email and the last two days trying to re install my classic version which has been replaced with a NEW horrid version.
    It may not be possible.
Not feeling Valentine’s Day but love the outfit so far. I’m sure your accessories will do the trick and then it can have several other looks too. The boots seem very bulky to me. If one of the pink and white fabrics look better you could always “Tea Dye” that fabric. It works so well…if not dark enough…make more Tea! 🤭☺️
    Have a hood weekend🥰
