Want to follow me around on another Antique Shopping expedition?

First of all, I am so upset at myself for missing Linda’s 57th Anniversary and Barbara’s birthday. I had written them down weeks ago and wasn’t going to forget them… and guess what? I forgot them!

Here they are… written at the top of a legal pad filled with all kinds of things for my blog posts…

Soooo… Happy Anniversary to Linda and Happy Birthday to Barbara. I hope your days were special!

Well, Tuesday my hubby decided we should take a trip to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, for my Christmas present. He wanted to give me a day of shopping. It was very cold out but was supposed to get colder as the week went on, so we decided to go. We went to a few thrift shops and then to the handful of Antique shops we like the best. There were still lots of booths with Christmas decorations so it was pretty festive inside. I decided to take some pictures and ask you if you’d like to come along. Who’s ready? Let’s go…

If you click on the pictures they will enlarge.

This picture of a mom and her 2 daughters (I’m assuming) caught my eye… whenever I see pictures like this, I always wonder about their lives…

Has anyone ever read this book? I had to pick it up and thumb through it… neat pictures… but I didn’t buy it.

These little lambs caught my eye too… I couldn’t figure out what they were made from…

Every antique store needs a Holly Hobbie doll tucked in some shelf somewhere in the store… She still has her wrist tag.

Rebecca likes Southwest stuff…she might have liked these…

My hubby ALWAYS get stuck in this store… in this particular part of the store… the TOOLS section…

There are lots of glass display cases that have all those teeny tiny items in them…

I saw this navy blue enamel painted mirror and it made it stop… I loved it!

Then on another wall in the same booth, I saw this gold one… it was huge…

…and we finally reached the end of the trip this time. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

I will see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

What a lot of fun pictures tonight!

The picture of the family of three is certainly a somber one. Of course, back then they had to concentrate on sitting very still for a long period of time, so you rarely saw any smiling faces!

Directly below it, I spotted what look to be old red celluloid cookie cutters. I do love old cookie cutters, but truly I don’t need another one!! I have LOTS!!

I am very familiar with the Edith the Lonely Doll book. I’m not sure which edition it is, but I have to disagree with the seller, who wrote “kind of creepy” on the tag! šŸ˜‚ Back in the 1990s a company Made a “lonely doll” doll, which we sold in the doll shop where I was working. She really did look a great deal like the photo on the cover! (And all the illustrations were in the form of photographs of this doll and other figures.)

There were some beautiful lace lampshades in one of the pictures–wouldn’t mind having some of those plus appropriate lamps to go with them! And I loved that doll house and all the furniture within!

    Thanks for sharing!

I’d love to see your cookie cutter collection some time, because I collect them too. šŸ™‚ Don’t see them too often anymore though.

First of all, I want to thank those of you who wished us a happy anniversary! I had much to do yesterday, plus a few visitors and a few places to go, so didnā€™t actually read yesterdayā€™s blog until this morning or at least most of it! Donā€™t worry Jeanne, I still love you!

If there is anyplace that I might ā€œrun intoā€ you, Jeanne, it would probably be at an antique shop in Cape Girardeau! Even though I lived there for the four years going to college, I never once set foot in an antique shop there! Of course, antiques werenā€™t the thing a normal college student would be attracted to!

Iā€™m not if todayā€™s blog was just from one place or several, but what an array of treasures you saw! The family picture was not the kind I would like hanging in my house! I much prefer smiling people, but I understand the times when those pictures were taken.

Several pictures down from that was a picture of two headless dolls sitting on a shelf with red jackets on! Wonder what that was all about? And The Lonely Doll, yes, I have heard of that book. Iā€™m thinking of the doll ā€œPoor Pitiful Pearlā€, as maybe who she was modeled after in later years.

Those lambs are darling, were they paper mache? They would look sweet with a nativity set in the proper size for them!

Dollhouses and furniture are always fun for little girls, and big ones too! Who doesnā€™t love fixing up dollhouses? So much better easier and cheaper than our big ones!ā˜ŗļø

Iā€™m sorry, George, but the tool section is about as exciting as the menā€™s pants section at clothing stores for me! Rows and rows of slacks, pants, jeans and really nothing much different about them! Iā€™m sure he will disagree with me, but I just canā€™t get excited about either one!

I see various trees and in my opinion, you can never have enough trees to set around here and there! I use them for my villages, my dollhouses, my Christmas decorations, just everywhere, and not just at this time of the year. I keep my Dept. 56 villages up all year round, so I need all the trees I can get, the more different they are from each other, the merrier!

My Christmas decorations and trees have another week and half to go, ā€¦.at least!

Dear Linda, belated congratulations. How wonderful to have a blessed friend for life.

Totally forgot to wish you a happy day on your anniversary. Loved the picking of identical cards. šŸ™‚

Looks like a great day for you, Jeanne, and proves that your sweet guy knows what you like! I have a “thing” about photos like the mother and daughters. I see ones like that in Cracker Barrel restaurants all the time and wonder why and how they end up that way. I guess a family dies and they just get put aside in a thrift shop or something. I have many old family photos and have told my sons that if any of the end up like that i will haunt them!
I bought a Lonely Doll with her book and teddy bear for my granddaughter several years ago. She wasn’t that interested in it however, just liked AG dolls. I gave it to the raffle at the MDCC convention. It is a sweet story and the doll is adorable.
Happy Anniversary to Linda, 57 years, wow! and happy Birthday to Barbara!
We are headed for Helen in the GA mountains for 2 weeks on Friday. Can’t wait.

I have the fox pair, given to me by a dear friend, and they do indeed have heads. They are dark brown and donā€™t show up in the picture. The foxes are with the 8ā€™ tree that I no longer put up but I have two others that I do. One 4ā€™ tree is on a tripod table and has the glass doll collection that was carried at Home Goods for several years and many others. The other is 3ā€™ tall and sits on the floor for AG and RRFF dolls. Iā€™ll send pictures of them if Jeanne would like to share them some time. The bear in the picture wonā€™t be the Nana one, moths having banqueted long ago.

My two sonsā€™ families with two children each were visiting here for the first time together in many years. Had ten people for dinner. Granted, itā€™s a challenge at 82 to get things together but delightful to be together. The 11- and 14-year olds play piano wonderfully, ā€œInterstellarā€ by Krish, the younger one. Iā€™d seen videos but live with the soundboard in the room is much better. Great to be able to see them in the.flesh and hug them. Disappointing that thereā€™s not enough snow to go skiing in Southern California this year and a bit too cool for surfing.

Iā€™m a little late wishing happy birthdays and anniversaries, but wishing you many more! ā¤ļøā¤ļøšŸ„°

How nice that both your sons and their families could be “home for Christmas” at the same time. How wonderful that the cousins got to spend some time together. I spent a lot of time with my cousins when I was growing up and really got to know them. Unfortunately my own children never had the chance to spend much time with their cousins since we live in Texas and everyone else was in Delaware and there was no traveling on their side and precious little on ours, mostly because of the cost. Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas and I hope you have a repeat soon.

Dear Jeanne, what fun! Your antique stores have the best items. I enjoyed “shopping” with you.

  6. First, I see the wooden alphabet blocks . I still have those from my childhood along with the solid colored wooden building blocks.
The glass display cases are just like our antique stores. You never can tell what treasure nay be with them.
I spotted a gorgeous piece of stained glass on the wooden crossbeams in the second to last photo. I would have wanted them brought down to admire more closely.
Never made it to the antique stores prior to Christmas this year so it’s fun to see your trip

Barbara I am so sorry I missed saying happy birthday. It is the same day as my sisters and I rang her yesterday morning (Wed), which was still Tuesday for her. I hope you had a lovely day.
Linda, I am sorry I missed saying happy anniversary to you too. I wish you many more.
    Happy New Year everyone.

Thanks for the birthday wish. Appreciated at any time. How nice your sister and I share a day. Hope she had a good one. I heard from my one sister this morning. It’s hard to catch me on the actual day sometimes.

Thanks for allowing me to come along on your antique shopping trip. Those shops would be overwhelming for me. So many items. I know David would have been enjoying himself in the tool section. A lot to see there.

Thanks for the birthday wish, Jeanne.

So much to see, but lots of fun. I do like both of “Jeanne’s” mirrors. However, the one painted navy probably covered up it’s gold leaf. Love the true gold leaf mirrors, like the second one I believe. I saw on a blog some time ago where the author found one on Craig’s List or something similar. It was huge. Like floor to ceiling. It was an absolute gorgeous piece. I think she had to rent a truck and have a bunch of people try and get it into her house. It was massive, but so striking. Wish I had a large one too. I do have one, still with gold leaf, that belonged to my grandfather’s family. My mother added a mirror to it as I believe that it may have held a painting at some point. It is very heavy and really needs a better place to display it properly.
Did Jeanne and George buy anything? Just curious. šŸ™‚
