Ruby Red Fashion Friends, James, is in the spotlight today…

Actually James is only in the spotlight because he has short hair… sorry kiddo! My next outfit will be something for the Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls, but I haven’t decided who will show it off just yet… I’ll have to wait and see what I put with the jacket that ends up being the winner! I had this idea to make a denim jacket and then a dress to go underneath… something Fallish for the dress. The weather is perfect right now for lightweight denim jackets…

I wanted something a little more special than just a boxy jacket… something feminine and flattering. I was looking on Etsy at Barbie patterns to see if there was anything that inspired me. Some of the “couture” Barbie outfits are incredibly detailed. I spotted one but kept looking…when I’d gone through several pages, I decided I liked this one the best and decided to give it a try. It is a PDF pattern and the seller’s name is Sanglain. There aren’t any written directions for it… but a few photographs. I know enough about sewing, I can look at the picture and see what needs to be done.

Once before I took a Barbie pattern and enlarged it 125% and it worked pretty well… but this one was slightly different because it was fitted and you know Barbie’s “chest” is different than the RRFF dolls. So I had to smooth that seam out a bit, and Barbie’s arms are MUCH smaller in size than the RRFF dolls, so that had to be changed, which meant the armhole area had to be changed.

I made a draft from a brown scrap of fabric I had from my first enlarged pattern… It was slightly too big…

I just put one sleeve in to see how the fit was going to be… Too big… start over…

So I worked on my pattern pieces… and added pieces of paper, shaved off parts of the pattern and tried thinking of it like a puzzle… this piece has to fit into this piece which is connected to this piece… etc…

Then I tried again… this time in a lighter weight denim…

It was somewhat better but not a great fit in the arms again… this time too tight again…

I grabbed a random scrap of fabric to put under the jacket so you could see what I’m aiming for…

If I can get the sleeve figured out, it should be smooth sailing for the rest…

I also made a new blouse for Ten Ping’s set that sold last night… the first one didn’t seem like the collar was centered right, so started over and made a new one… here it is… AND thank you to the winner of the set! :o)

Well, I’ll see what I can figure out on Monday!

See you then,
Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, congratulations on another successful auction! Last time I’d checked, it didn’t seem like much was happening, but it seems the bids came in at the last minute!!

Nice to see James in the spotlight, at least momentarily, although that is definitely a more feminine style of jacket! I think it has potential, though, and it’ll be fun to see what you do with it. (At first Nolan [Russell] that that meant that Auntie Jeanne was going to make something for Him, and got quite excited about it, but then he saw that James was only being the model for something “girly”, and lost interest!! LOL

TenPing’s new blouse is lovely! I hadn’t noticed about the collar of the other one, but….I know. I’m the same way. If I’m going to make something, I’m going to do it as perfectly as I can!!

Yes, congratulations on that successful auction, Jeanne!

Seeing James, reminded me of the boy doll I had when small. He had short, curly brown hair and wore a cute little red playsuit with straps. He was kind of “lost” with all the girl dolls I had, but his hair always looked so nice and neat! LOL

I love the material of the first jacket, and thought it would pair will with a denim skirt for a fall vibe. The denim jacket is equally good, so I wonder what you will wind up using, one of those two, or something completely different?

What a cute little blouse, and I too, never noticed anythng wrong with the first one. I’m sure the new owner is completely thrilled with her new purchase! It was one of your very best outfits, in my opinoin!

I really like that brown fabric. I think you said that one was too big? But, what if it had a sweater or tee shirt underneath? It didn’t look too big to me. The denim, even though lightweight, seems kind of bulky. And James is a great model. 🙂
Congrats on your auction. Lots of fans of dolls the size of TP out there. 🙂 Hope to see something else for dolls that size. Maybe a holiday party dress with a pair of ballet slippers?
Going to be heating up around here. Been enjoying the cooler weather.

Dear Jeanne, this is a different comment format. The log-in is different also. It seems to work the same though.

I like the Barbie outfit. I am looking forward to seeing your interpretation.

  5. I like the boxy look of the brown jacket. The denim sleeves seem too short and tight to me. But some style appeal is personal. Can’t wait for more. I do think you should put the other sleeve on the brown jacket anyway! As an over-jacket it’s pretty cute.

  6. Yes, the comment section is different. The brown jacket is cute. I have to finish putting groceries away, so gotta run. Have a great weekend Sofa Sisters!

Laura, what is different? Mine is the same. Have a great weekend? It’s only Monday!

      1. Monday??? I have no idea where my head is. LOL Anyway, the box says “Write a comment” and you have to log in to leave the reply by choosing either W which I have no idea what that is, F for Facebook, or the letter symbol for email and then entering your email and name.

Dear Laura, hello. I get the days confused also. I cannot believe it is already October!

I don’t know what the W is either. I also noticed that I cannot space out more than two spaces so I cannot make paragraphs. Everything is one long message. The return button doesn’t work. Is that happening to you also Laura? Is this happening to anyone else?

Hmmm, it spaced out when my message printed but it wouldn’t space out in the actual paragraph (putting a space here).
I wonder if it will do that again or if it will print one big paragraph (putting a space here). I guess we will see.
