Some “hot” pictures of Violette… and the garden…

After I got home from working at the Food Pantry this afternoon, I decided to take some pictures of Violette outside! I was already hot and sticky and thought I might as well get a few as they always look better when you see them in natural light. I could hear thunder in the distance, but there weren’t any dark clouds that I could see… still I hurried.

This is what my phone said…

I needed to go up in the attic and get the big piece of styrofoam I use with some “fake” green grass to use for Violette.

When I went upstairs, I saw the thermometer we have up there…

It was HOTTER than HOT upstairs!

I stand my dolls on the thick styrofoam with the fake grass covering it and use skewer sticks stuck into the grass and the styrofoam and then run them up the back of their legs… It helps hold the dolls in place… somewhat… However, it was starting to get windy and I was a bit nervous with Violette being on the bricks and paver pile… I certainly didn’t want her to blow over…

Believe me… I did hurry…

BEFORE I FORGET… Joy mentioned something about Violette’s panties showing through her white linen shorts… Sorry Joy, the shorts are too low of a rise to wear them with the panties. The jeans are too tight to wear with the panties and the skort is too low in the front to wear with the panties too. MORAL OF THE STORY… she has to go Commando with this set! (I hope that doesn’t offend anyone!)

I don’t know why she wasn’t sweating like I was…

We did a little wardrobe change outside… and these pictures were captured…

One more wardrobe change and we were finished…

We were right beside the garden so I snapped some pictures of my hubby’s garden… He always likes to try and have red tomatoes before the 4th of July… He made it… this was today’s produce…

Those little red peppers were at the bottom of the plant and a bit shriveled up, but the ones at the top and middle of the plant are long and much nicer looking… They aren’t hot peppers, just a different variety of red ones…Look how MANY there are on his plant!!!

He has an abundance of tomatoes on his plants…

As he was watering the holly bushes out in the courtyard, he saw this…

There will soon be some new little birdies but we haven’t noticed which birds are coming and going there… I’ll keep you posted!

Also, my Dinner Plate Hibiscus is just about ready to blossom!

Well, I hope you have a NOT TOO HOT weekend.

I will see you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, I feel your pain! It was awfully hot here too, just oppressive heat when you opened the door to go outside! I’m thinking you may need another thermometer for the attic soon before this one becomes obsolete!f I don’t know how you managed to stay out so long to take those pictures, but I would have probably melted!

Nice to know that my dolls aren’t the only ones that go commando every now and then! I did mention that yesterday, and it really makes sense sometimes when dressing the dolls. Violette looks so cool in just every change you made but thos jeans might have been a bit hot for this kind of weather! The colors show very well, and Violette looks none the worse for the heat she is enduring!

Wow, George sure has some very nice veggies there! Hope the storms we had last night did no damage, but we now have a yard full of leaves and limbs to clean up. I just made my first batch of Amish Pickles and they are so good! That would be a good way to use those wonderful cucumbers!

Can’t wait to see those eggs hatch, and your hibiscus bloom! Be sure to take pictures!

Wow, you are certainly a lot hotter than we are out here in the Seattle area!! Our high today was 79, which is about perfect, I think. We are to get in the high 80s by the 4th, however. I’m just thankful we didn’t have a repeat of the last week of June from two years ago–that was when it hit 108 out here, which is the first time EVER that it has gotten that hot!! I think that was on 6/28/21. Keep in mind, most houses in our area (including ours) do not have air conditioning!! And our house faces west…..

Violette looks cool as the proverbial cucumber in all her darling “looks”. This is turning out to be a really wonderful ensemble, and so versatile! The flipflops are just perfect with everything.

George’s produce looks wonderful!! My mouth is watering. Sadly, I am no gardener–I guess the gardener gene skipped me, as I have no interest whatsoever in digging in the dirt! I do appreciate any homegrown produce that comes our way, however–every now and then a neighbor or friend will give us something they grew.

How nice to have a new clutch of eggs to watch!! I hope you get a chance to see the babies!!

  3. Violette looks adorable in this cute summer mix and match set! Very versatile and her flip flops are perfect for whatever she decides to wear in this group. She can pick and choose what to wear, especially since the weather is so hot in certain areas. What great pictures outside too.
I’m like Charlotte- not into gardening, whereas my husband does well in that area. I’ll have to show the pictures of George’s produce – all the things my hubby likes to grow.
I think I might have mentioned, in the grapevines along side our house, we have the family – Mr. and Mrs. Dove. Mrs.had already had two youngsters leave the nest and now she’s sitting on two eggs again. Mr. Dove sits on the roofs of nearby houses watching over his little family. Mrs. Dove is well hidden in the grapevines. The leaves are great in protecting her. Her eggs were all white- not the color of yours. It’ll be interesting if you can identify what family of birds your eggs belong to,
I’ve mentioned before how much I love the RRFF Violette but she’s no longer available. However, I was so happy to find and get Jasmine, who is very similar to Violette, so that solved that situation. Jasmine had just started her journey from France 🇫🇷 to here. I also got awhile back, , Emilie and Amariyana. I’m happy with the group of diversified RRFF’s I have now.

Everyone, have a great rest of your weekend.

  4. Very versatile fun outfit for summer! I’m really loving the hair tie. Could you show how you make or put them together? Are the tie ends separate or part of the band? They just add so much to the outfits. I also would like to see a white or tan skort.
I recently moved so my veggie plants have not gotten a permanent home I should have done the big pot thing but some have flowered anyway. Anything I did get transplanted will need to get moved because I need foundation work and drain and downspout runs dug. So sewing or dressing dolls has not been in the cards for me, your blog is filling that void right now so keep doing what you and hubby do best. BTW how are the chickens doing in the heat?

Dorothy L., I think Jeanne adds a magnetic clasp (like you might use on a necklace or bracelet) to the back of the hair band/bow, so you don’t have to fumble around in the hair to clasp or unclasp them. I’m sure Jeanne will fill us in on Monday, but that’s what I remember from a previous post anyway.

The mix of your inside and outside pictures will make a great listing. When you pose her with her hands in her Jean pockets it cracks me up…so realistic🤭
Georges veggies are way ahead of mine. I usually plant a cherry tomato of some sort but missed this year. Usually those hold us over until the real ones are ready. This year we have some my Daughter Rosie started…San Marzano…and some my grandson Jack started..not sure what variety, and two big boys or better boys that we bought. Will be a fun experiment to see what ones bare well and what ones taste the best.
Welsh reunion on the 4th… start cooking today😉

I answered you about Diana on yesterday’s post, Joy. Please go back there to see it. 🙂
Not that it matters being dolls and all, but my girls always wear their underpinnings. Mainly, because they always wear dresses with the one exception of an 1980s style jeans I got from an Etsy seller.
Violette looks very cute in her ensemble.
George’s tomatoes are way ahead of ours. We’re in a different zone and also we had a late frost and rain that set things back this year. I love gardening as does my mom. My grandparents had the greenest thumbs and could make anything grown as well make cuttings etc. Garden produce tastes so much better.
How sweet you have a nest. We have cardinals in the arbor vitae and sweet sparrows in their usual spot in the crook of the downspout . They can fly down to the second story roof and then to the burning bush below.

Love this adorable, versatile outfit. Every piece is just perfect. How brave of you to spend so much time outdoors in the heat taking these wonderful pictures. Violette looks so lovely and composed. As if the heat is not bothering her at all.

Well as bad as our heat is here right now and I would usually trade this time of year for the Bethlehem, PA, weather I grew up with, I’m passing on that this year. Bethlehem is in the Lehigh Valley and right now their air quality is just awful with little chance for improvement caused by the Canadian fires. I get the online newspaper and have seen some pictures where you barely can see your hand in front of your face during the day. I also have their weather on my computer and right now they are at 80 degrees which is perfect but the air quality is poor with health risks. We never had this happen while I was growing up there. It was a perfect place to live. Never too hot, rarely too cold and the skies were clear unless it was raining or snowing. They are predicting this will last all summer. We’ve had this problem here sometimes when they are burning the fields in Mexico and the winds are blowing our way, or sometimes we get the sand from the Sahara, but none of them last very long. I can’t imagine a summer of poor air quality caused by something that doesn’t seem to be under control at all.

Commando it is! 🙂 Guess I must have been thinking of myself. Ha ha.
Wow, those veggies are lovely. Tell George, we have one green tomato about 2″ across. Did we ever hear what his soil mixture is? Maybe I missed it.
Methinks that Jeanne needs an attic fan. That is so hot up there. We have one at my parent’s house that you have to switch on and off, but it really sucks out the hot air.
I have to agree with you, Laura, about the latest Diana RRFF. I ordered her, but mainly for the skirt. I’ve been trying to replicate one and love the design. I think she will be one of those dolls that look a lot better in person. I’m hoping at least. I’m not so fond of the wig design either. She won’t be coming for awhile anyway, so gives me time to figure out something else.
Looks like Violette, is ready for the hot weather many of us have been experiencing. Such a cute outfit.
Well, yay, we finished up installing the foam around the AC unit yesterday, and had it running all afternoon. Works wonderfully and the remote is fun too. So nice to have it cool inside. 🙂
Now, we can get on to other projects. Like back to pulling ivy and blackberry. But, only when it is cool. Just too hot to do that right now.
Loved seeing the bird’s nest. We too had a nest in one of my geranium hanging baskets on the front porch. No way could I water my plant while the birds were in residence, but the family is gone now, and I have a happy plant again.
So what is Jeanne going to make with the peppers, cucumbers, and tomatoes? How about a veggie pizza?
Time to switch on the AC. I’m happy.

Congrats on getting your A/C up and running. It gets a little warm in our house in the afternoon but it’s bearable. We keep it up a little during the day so we can keep it lower at night for sleeping. I wish we had an attic fan. Surprised that we don’t because our house never had A/C until 1990 right before we bought it. I had a friend whose mom did not have central A/C but she had an attic fan. She would come home after work and turn on the fan. It would pull all the hot air out of the house and then she would turn on a window unit in the master bedroom and it would cool the whole house. My daughter’s husband’s parents had an attic fan in College Station. They had to take it out because they had a problem with scorpions coming in that way. One good thing about the humidity here is that scorpions don’t like it. A little further north from here and we’d have to deal with them.
