~ READY TO READ ~ Violette’s set is on Ebay!

I hurried to get this listed as I wanted to get it on Ebay as soon as possible. It will be listed as of Sunday evening… You can see the listing by clicking the picture at the right side bar, or you can click HERE.
I took a few pictures of Violette outside, “at the park” and she was a good sport, as it felt like it was 90 degrees out there! She had fun reading, but it took her quite a while to decide which book she wanted to start on first. :o)

I hope you’ll enjoy these few pictures and check out the listing on Ebay.

I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

You have made a winning outfit once again, Jeanne, and Violette looks so cute, posed that way. I see you have a bid already, too! Yay!

Tell Violette I always have a hard time deciding which of my library books I want to read first, also.

I finally got into my sewing room tonight, and got some more done on my nightie. It feels like forever since I last worked on it! Shouldn’t take too long to finish.

I spent some time this week taking a few pictures–mostly of my sewing but also of Russell, who now has a new first name: Nolan. I had thought to keep Russell as his first name, and go with something longer for a middle name (Gregory being a high contender), but once I came across the name Nolan in a baby name book, he would have nothing else! So, it’s Nolan Russell. He has a couple of t-shirt fabrics picked out, as he’s wanting a short-sleeved t-shirt for our hot weather! We’ll see how long it takes to get that made!!

Dear Charlotte, I like the name Nolan. I seem to remember there was a movie star, when I was growing up, who had that name. I don’t remember his last name though.

I love the name Nolan, but it’s not one that comes to mind usually. Nolan is the name of the “thief” in the Jonathan Taylor Thomas movie “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” (1997). If you haven’t seen this movie you should. It is hilarious but has a real message behind it. The part of Nolan is totally funny.

    3. Hi Charlotte, my daughter went to preschool back in 1993-4 with a little boy named Nolan. I’m in high favor of renaming dolls (and imagining backstories as they make them uniquely your own. I’ve renamed five of my six PC/AG girls and both of my RRFFs. Only my PC Felicity kept her name.

And now 2 bids! Ahh, for those lazy days laying outside reading a book! Violette looks so calm and rested, not a care in the world, not even these terribly hot days we are into! The joys of childhood!

Let’s see those pictures of Nolan Russell, Charlotte! I’m sure some of us have boy dolls (not me, though) and would love to see how you fix him up!

What a great pic of Violette stretched out on the bench. A delightful glimpse of summer. And bids coming in too.
Well, for us, fog rolled in and it was 58 this morning. However, prediction is for 90 today. So nice that it usually cools off at night.
A little sewing done here and there. Not much actually accomplished though. I would love to see Barbara’s pool if she has any time for pics. That must be a great accomplishment. Should the pool ever get underway here, I’ve found that we need more swimsuits. Where is that pattern anyway? 🙂
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer. It is flitting by quickly.

Joy, you had me living vicariously for a moment since we won’t see 58 here until probably December. Not even at night. Best we can hope for is high 70s. My mother was an Army nurse and was stationed in California for a while. She always assumed Texas cooled off at night like California did. Since she usually came in October which is one of the best times here, I never could convince her otherwise. Ah yes, swimsuits. That is the log jam here at the moment but then I don’t have a sewing machine right now to help solve the problem. There are tons of swimsuit patterns out there for most dolls and I found a couple that cover several dolls like the one for Little Darlings also works for Betsy McCall and other dolls in the 13″ to 14″ range. I did have to look around a bit but when I get a minute I will go look up what I bought and share it with you to save you some time. I could not find a pattern for the Siblies but did find swimsuits but my go-to pattern lady Kathy at Kathy Anne Designs is going to do one for Mini Sara/Ten Ping and dolls that size and said she would also do one for the Siblies but she wasn’t sure when exactly.

      1. Joy in northern CA

That would be great on the patterns. I have one somewhere. Bad me. And if KAnn does one for the Mini Sara, I would love it. I suppose it could also be enlarged a bit for the Siblies too. 🙂
        Thanks.

Violette does make the cutest model for almost anything. Something about her expression and that wig combine beautifully. She is enjoying her summer reading in the park before it is back to school time.
We had the nicest weather week last week..in the low 80’s and some rain… but this week we will get the super hot temps that so many of you have had.🫣
Picked some tomatoes…my daughter started San Marzano variety. They are very firm,… maybe just need to ripen some more.
I have several boy dolls too that Charlotte. The latest one is a vintage compo boy by Dewees Cochran. He is very handsome and he knows it.
🤭 My friend spotted him for sale and it was just the bald head but she alerted me and when he came I realized I had a perfect body for him so now he is having a second life!
    Have a good week everyone.

Oh, Kathie, I would love to see your Dewees Cochran boy!! What a great find for you!

Dear Jeanne, another winning ensemble for Violette. She will be needing school clothes shortly. I think about how different the current school clothes are from what we wore. No pants or jeans for us girls back in the days.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Isn’t it funny how we girls only wore dresses and skirts and blouses back in the 1950-60s and we didn’t wear shorts under our dresses. My granddaughter had to wear shorts when she wore a dress but usually wore pants to school. She wore the skirt we made for Easter with shorts underneath and it looked bulky. So I sent to England to get her a slip (couldn’t find what I wanted here) but she has not worn the skirt since Easter.

  6. Harvested the first summer squash this morning which will be a nice side for dinner.
Violette looks so relaxed lying on the bench. It reminds me of summers at my grandparents. After working with Nanny (grandmother) in the garden in the morning we would relax on the patio with lemonade or iced tea and i would read Anne of Green Gables among others before going inside for other things while waiting for Papa (grandfather) to get home from his garden store.

    1. Joy in northern CA

I just picked our first squash as well. Our gardens must be on the same wavelength. 🙂

Is Dorothy ever right. Remember nice skirt and sweater sets and polished shoes? There was a dress code when I started college. By the time I started grad school, admin was just grateful if we were decently covered.

Violette’s outfit is perfect. I was going to suggest a market bag, but a book bag with books is a great solution.

I remember when my daughter was in college the students would fall out of bed and head for class in their pjs. Of course their pjs were fleece pants and sweatshirt tops but I still can’t get over them doing that. I’m not sure they even managed to brush their teeth and wash their faces. I had a friend whose cousin was in college when we were still in junior high. I went with her family once to visit her. What everyone was wearing to class was what we would call preppy today. Pleated skirts, nice blouses, blazers and knee high socks with loafers. You rarely see anything close to that today. But my Betsy will be dressed like that for her first day of school this year. I managed to snag the “Welcome Back Betsy” first day of school outfit still in its original packaging on eBay.

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Barbara, what does Betsy’s school outfit look like? I have one for mine, and it has a red plaid pleated skirt, a white v blouse and a navy sweater with gold buttons. No hat though, although I think it is supposed to have one. I have her black velvet shoes and white tights. Is this what you have?

I love the pictures of Violette. She looks so relaxed on her bench surrounded by wonderful reading material. I used to spend a lot of my summer doing just that. I used to sit under the tree in our yard reading most of the day. Everyone was off doing something else and I could read without interruption. That’s back when summers were for relaxing. Being a child does have advantages we probably don’t appreciate much until we’re older.

I love this outfit and know it’s going to be a hit with bidders.

I just checked yesterday’s post for more pictures. I love the boho bag blue-side out.
