Nothing says Dirndl like a wool bodice (vest)!

PLEASE NOTE:
The set I have listed on Ebay for the Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls, “Snapshots of Summer”, ends this evening. (Saturday) If you haven’t seen it please click on the picture at the right side bar, or click HERE.

There are many countries (Germany, Austria, Bavaria, Switzerland, etc) who have their own version of the Dirndl. The bodice and skirt of a Dirndl used to be made as one piece. The blouse was worn under the bodice and the apron was usually stitched to the full skirt. However, times have changed and you’ll find more modern versions of them with separate pieces. I tend to go for “multiple pieces” (as you may have noticed lately), so I’ve made my Dirndl four separate pieces… the cream blouse, a fully gathered blue print skirt, my bodice will be a separate blue wool piece, and the vintage hankie apron will be separate as well. I doubt I will get many objections as the four pieces will make it more fun to dress your doll.

I worked at the Food Pantry today, so once again, my sewing time was limited. I spent a fair amount of time trying to plan out the kind of bodice (vest) I wanted to make. I even did a trial run for the vest in a scrap of red wool felt I had. I made my adjustments on the red one, then transferred that to my paper pattern.

Once I cut out the blue felt vest, I stitched it together at the shoulders and pinned it at the back and sides. But I still wanted to show you…

I used a pink thread and did a decorative stitch around the scooped neckline and around the armholes.

The blue wool looks a lot darker in my pictures than it does in real life… It’s a perfect match to the dark blue flowers in the apron.

I’ll keep plodding along with this one and before you know it, I’ll be finished…

Oh, my hubby wanted to show you a picture of his “bounty” from today… minus the 13 eggs we got today too!

I will see you Monday!
Have a great weekend!
Blessings, Jeanne

For some reason the first picture in you blog isn’t coming up. (I assume it’s the one with the red mock-up of the bodice?) No matter how I access your blog–click on the email link or go directly thru the website–it doesn’t show, and when I clicked on the little outlined box, it comes up “remote data cannot be fetched”. Not sure if it’s my computer or something else.

Anyway, the outfit is coming a long, and the stitching around the neck and armscyes is a nice, subtle touch of pink. I really do think, at least for My Kirsten, that she is a “pink and blue” girl. Funny how some of our dolls navigate to certain colors! (My Molly’s favorite color is red, for instance!)

Oh, what lovely bounty from the garden. Yum yum (well, except for the peppers–someone else can have those!).

Linda, I wondered if those might be children’s hankies; they can be kind of difficult to find. You might want to take a picture of the hankies you do have (use your phone, if you have that kind, so you have the picture with you) so, should you be in a thrift store or antique shop and you come across a child’s hankie, you can compare it to what you already have. If they all have similarly styled designs, you might find something that will have the right “look” to add in.

Joy, what a lovely surprise you got, getting that matching chair! And another dolly adventure is in the books!!

Jeanne, the same thing Charlotte mentioned about the first picture, is happening to me. It’s just a plain white space, where I suppose should be a picture’ Also your blog from yesterday never made it here, although I found it like I normally do. Today’s is here!

This outfit is turning out to.be exactly what I thought, with the exception of the sleeves being maybe 3/4 sleeves. Have you ever made any that long for Kirsten? It is a lovely dirndl and the wool vest is the perfect color. Now for embellishing it!

What else is coming for this? How about some cute wooden shoes? Just kidding, since I know you don’t have time for such things! But if anyone had some( that are probably made of plastic now), the would look cute! I believe Kirsten had some with her original Baking Outfit.

Thank you Charlotte, for the help on finishing my hankie birthday card. Trouble is, I never go to the places where they could possibly be selling them!

I bet the salads at the Wiedlocher household lately are amazing!

Wow, dinner is served thanks to George and the hens. Egg and vegetable frittata maybe?
Love Kirsten’s outfit so far. However, I would like to see the first pic that didn’t take for whatever reason. 🙂 When I saw the vest, I thought, Jeanne must be a whiz at the blanket stitch. Then, found that it was machine done. I really like the look. I wonder if my machine might also have that stitch available? Silly me. Have no idea.
We have sun this morning, so looks like it will be in the 80’s. Hope the wind we’ve been having doesn’t kick up again. Always fearful of the fire danger.
I actually did some sewing yesterday. Haven’t had any spare time lately, so it was fun to work on something. Lots of partially finished things laying around here. A summer top, a few skirts, shorts, a shirt, etc. Trying to do whatever uses similar thread colors so I don’t have to keep switching.
Have a nice weekend everyone. 🙂

Dear Jeanne, the bodice is a nice addition to the outfit. The vegetables look yummy!

  5. I’ve not been receiving your post lately so I’ve been accessing thru an “old” one. Todays post WAS there though and all my pics were there. So doesn’t seem like a simple common problem.
The outfit is really looking nice, the colors blending perfectly. Somewhere I have brown (plastic) clogs that would look great with this outfit. Maybe others have them and can dig them out. Maybe felt clogs? Looking forward to what’s next.

Hummm… I got todays post and it had the red dirndl in it!🤭 I did have to find yesterdays though. Computers can be so weird🫣
This is shaping up to be just darling. The blues come across as a perfect match too. Not too fond of the stitching at the edge though….but that is just me.
George is a master Gardner for sure…our tomatoes are green green green!
We have had rain now so maybe it won’t be long😉

I just looked, and yes, the red bodice is showing up now. Perhaps it was a temporary glitch of some kind–what my friend Liz and I refer to as an “ain’t technology grand?” moment!!

I see the red vest and paper pattern just fine. Kirsten is definitely a blue girl.
George has a great harvest. Everything looks great. If those peppers aren’t hot ones they are good as well.

I’m having no problems receiving your blog or seeing all of it. Mostly I seem to be having trouble reading it every day. I have no idea what everyone is talking about regarding the hankies so I need to backtrack and see what I missed.

Joy, what a great, unexpected package with the chair you didn’t buy. Really would love to see a picture. You are so resourceful in your artful dodgering.

The pools are finished and hopefully before summer is out there will be a splash party photo shoot. I have the shredded iridescent Easter grass in mine but when Sean saw it he asked me not to put it in Jaiden’s because he knows with Azure he will find it all over the house. Azure’s not allowed in Jaiden and Skyy’s rooms without them being there but if they’re in their rooms he is usually there too and that “water” will be just too tempting for his little hands.

Thankfully we’ve been getting some rain this week so my crepe myrtles and 4 o’clocks have gotten a good watering so maybe I can take some pictures. They seem to be the only things I can grow successfully.

Well, congrats on the new pools! Can’t wait for the splash party. Wouldn’t have thought of the shredded Easter grass. Can’t wait to see it. Not for Azure of course. 🙂 Not sure of what else might work, but that blue clear cellophane is supposed to, I’ve been told. That’s what I want to use if I ever get the pool done here. Hope I can get to it soon.

Looking great Jeanne! I think the blue felt bodice needs some embellishment, but no doubt you’ve got that covered!
