My goodness, I had a hard time trying to figure out Freida’s Cowgirl set…

It seemed so easy in my mind; how things were going to go… I was going to make a Cowgirl DRESS, and that was that… All the accessories would follow, but you know me… I LOVE to have several pieces to mix and match with my sets, so the “dress idea” sort of was wavering in my mind. I’ll show you what I mean… you saw the beginnings of Freida’s top yesterday but if I was going to make it into a dress, I’d have to cut it off at the waist and sew on the skirt… but, if I turned it into a dress… I couldn’t have her wear any jeans or a skirt with the top…

So I took some pictures of what I was thinking…this is what I started with… I ran 3 rows of basting just under the bustline… and drew the threads up… to see how it was going to look…

Then I laid a piece of fabric over the gathers to see how it would look… like this…

It would definitely be easier to tuck the “less full” tail of the shirt into the jeans than tuck all the fullness of the peasant top into them… but I just laid the jeans on top to get an idea of how it would look…

I even tried the khaki’s to see what it might look like…

I took a piece of the fabric and laid it about 3/8″ below the smooth midriff section I could add on… to see what it might look like if I made a skirt with a waistband… hmmm…

I even have some sunflower pendants I could make a fun necklace for her…never mind the cowgirl hat… it looks goofy I know, but I’m just putting it there for the color…

Then I wanted to see how it would look with a lighter blue denim skirt…

So after MORE time debating than actually sewing, I decided to add the midriff panel to the blouse and start from there. I liked the idea of having a few pieces, like maybe those jeans or maybe a fun flirty skirt or a skort.

I haven’t sewn the snaps on the back yet, so it looks a little boxy, but I think this is the way I’m going to continue…

Well, we’ll see what happens tomorrow… you just never know!
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, it seems we gave you plenty to think about with our comments last night, Jeanne!! I for one LOVE the look of a full skirt of matching fabric to go with that blouse, and of course adding a petticoat underneath, so she can go square dancing! And then the jeans, and maybe another, solid-color top that would work with either the jeans or the skirt…..

And don’t forget a hat band of that pretty sunflower fabric!

I particularly like the smaller of the sunflower pendants. Since the fabric has no white in it (that I can see, anyway), using the pendant with the white background would look odd, I think. But the smaller one would be really cute.

This will be a fun one to watch come together!

Jeanne, I got back with you too late for today’s blog, but you have done almost what I would have, go with the matching fabric for a full skirt, maybe with a flouncy ruffle for square dancing, and then I mentioned a pair of denim culottes with a fringed hemline. That’s what I would do.

I also like the smaller pendants for a necklace even one might work around the hat on a band.

Boots? In this case you could showcase most of your talents, making a hat, outfit necklace and boots!

  3. The lighter jean material picks up the bluish colors in the printed material. Maybe for shorts? Or an a-line skirt with orangish top stitching and on pockets too. How about a top stitched loop at the skirt waist just for hanging a detachable fob of beads, streaming ribbon, rawhide, feather, and one of the pretty sunflower pendants? A girl needs some bling after all. Could make a similar hat trim. Also just changing the blouse and fob could make a whole new look. (A loop like pants or jeans had for a pocket watch) Can’t wait to see the outcome.

I think if the top is worn with jeans/shorts, it should be a crop top or just above the waist. Then there would be no need to tuck the fabric in. Also, the same way if worn with a flounced tiered skirt in white eyelet. My favorite. I think the yellow daisy would look nice on a hair tie rather than as a necklace. Seems like there is already so much going on with the lovely printed fabric. Just my take.
Daughter has been sending pics of their adorable two new kitties. The grands are in love. 🙂

    1. Love the way you added that smooth fitting piece. It all make all your ideas work. The jeans will be darling as will a skirt! Just going to sit back and watch all this happen!

  5. I have really enjoyed reading every suggestion from all of your readers! I can’t wait to see what you decide on making!

Dear Jeanne, she is such a cutie. She will look adorable in whatever you make.

  7. I actually like the first blouse with the slightly ruffle look. Maybe ruffle isn’t the word. Then the lighter Jean in an a-line skirt coming out from under the blouse. Maybe a leather looking belt with matching boots? Or a fuller Jean skirt with a ruffle at the bottom for the square dancing?
It’ll be interesting to see what you do!

My personal choice would also to make a full skirt of matching fabric with a ruffle around the bottom. I agree with Charlotte about a petticoat to hold it out. I also like the smaller sunflower pendant.
