Those dolls get me every time!

Remember me telling you I wasn’t going to “sew” for James until after I finished the wedding dress alterations? Well, that was kind of true but not totally… You see, no “sewing” was involved…

Here’s what happened… my hubby was outside working on things and then he had to go into the church to do a few things… it was just me and the guys… Reuben and James! (Well, actually the “girls” were all here, but they knew the new guy was going to get the attention today, so they just stayed quiet on the dolly shelf.

I told James everyone seemed to be happy that a boy had come into my harem of girls and that’s all it took… he started asking why did he have to wait for the wedding dress to be finished before I started on something for him? I guess he sort of twisted my arm and I found myself looking at my leather pieces wondering about copying those shoes he came with… I told myself, a pair of shoes wouldn’t take too long, and the next thing I knew, I was holding up the package with the shoes in it, trying to draft a paper pattern without taking them out of the package. I didn’t want to get them dirty…

I did draft that pattern and made a pair of slip on’s, but realized about half way through, the piece I picked wasn’t real leather… rats. It just doesn’t curve at the toe if it’s faux leather… but I did the best I could, since this was really just a trial run anyway…

This is how my first pair turned out…

Not too different from the pair in the package…

Here is a rough draft of my shoe pattern…

It bugged me that they weren’t real leather, so I decided a second pair should go together much quicker… (my hubby likes this color leather…)

They look HUGE in my pictures, but you have to remember, they are only about an inch and a half long…

So James has 2 new pair of shoes… He’s happy!

I also decided to do a quick pattern sketch of his pants because I like the way they fit him and how they close in front… I didn’t do a trial run on them, but will one of these days… I’m sure they will have to be tweaked after the first pair…

Well, that was my day… I hope yours was as productive AND FUN! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Somehow I just knew you couldn’t resist trying Something for James right away! The shoes turned out pretty cute, but, like someone said yesterday, you probably should hang onto his outfit, at least for a while, in case you want to use him as a “prop” with one of your girls! You can’t just wrap a piece of fabric around him and call him “dressed” like you can sometimes do with the girls!!

I thought some of you Laura Ashley fans would like to know that McCall’s has reissued one of her patterns from the 80s! It’s #8318 in the new catalog, and is a jumper or sundress, with optional lower ruffle, and Huge pockets. I’m going to make it as a jumper, I think, minus the ruffle, and I’ll shorten the pockets some, as they would be ridiculously long on my short frame! JoAnn’s has McCall’s patterns for $1.99 each for a couple of days, too, just in case you want to go and look!! AND…they have Liberty Lawn for 25% off this weekend, too!! (Well, of course I did….cherry red background with little white blossoms! I think it’ll make a nice winter blouse.)

Charlotte, I immediately had to take a look at that pattern. It is very cute. Our Joann’s never seems to have the latest patterns, but puts them out after their sales. Bad. Anyway, it is a really fun pattern. Love LA. 🙂

Won the right to buy a full set Meadow big girl yesterday, so she’ll be heading here soon. Love Charlene’s painting. 🙂
James will certainly not be lacking in the shoe department. I’d love to see a pair in canvas as well or even a pair of lace up dress shoes/boots for winter. 🙂
Looks like we may get a few more sprinkles over the weekend. Hope we can catch up to at least what we received last year. Otherwise it will be a very long parched spring and summer next year.
And on to the weekend. 🙂

Dear Joy, yeaaa! Another dolly adventure will soon be happening. I can’t wait to read about it. Congratulations.

  3. Congrats on your new boy, James.
I just knew something would be happening for him and the two new pairs of shoes are very nice.
Btw, now that there’s a boy in the house, I think all the girls are going to have to have slips, towels, or something up on the dolly shelf. LOL

That’s right! Can’t have a bunch of nekkid little girls around, now that there’s a boy in the house! (daddies don’t count the same way as “boys”!! LOL)

  4. Yesterday disappeared with Dr Appts for my “other person” so I didn’t see James. I went back asap this morning to see what happened yesterday just to see him. So perfect! He is beyond cute. Boys that age are still so pretty so I can see him as a girl too. Funny…a boy doll is what I think I may ask for from Santa…or the new book on Dewees Cochran and her dolls. They are soooo interesting as was she as a doll maker.
You copied the shoes without even tracing them? Wowza…that took some talent.
They look a lot like ones I just bought from Sketchers. 😉 Can’t wait to see how you dress him. You must have all kinds of ideas floating around in your head🤗
    Enjoy the weekend everyone😍

Dear Jeanne, well James will certainly be well shod. I am sure you will be whipping up an outfit for him soon.

Dear Jeanne, yeaaa the site is back up. I had trouble connecting all weekend. I am glad things are fixed now.

    1. HI Dorothy,
YOU AND ME BOTH! So glad it’s fixed! I don’t like technology… (when it doesn’t work!) :o)
      Thanks so much!

Dear Jeanne, no worries. We were all just hanging out on the sofa waiting for the computer gremlins to go away (laugh).
