An American Girl Christmas dress in the works

I’m sorry some of you are still getting the blog posts in a way you weren’t before. Do you want “me” to add your name and sign you up again and see if that makes it work? I will share what is happening with Sarah as well…

When I bought this fabric, I was pretty sure it was going to be a Civil War dress or one for Kirsten… I played around with it and decided it would be a Civil War or possibly just a Victoran looking dress… maybe even a Little Women dress.

This is what I have done on the dress so far…the rest will be easy!

I’m trying to decide if I want it long or possibly a shorter length with a pair of pretty white pantalettes underneath.

I know it’s not much, but I wanted you to see what I was working on…

I’ll see you tomorrow!
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, tonight’s link from WordPress just took me to their sign-up page again, so it still isn’t sorted out. It seems it’s a WP problem (since so many of us have it) and They should be fixing it! Can Sarah try to contact them about it? Are others with WP blogs having this problem?

That is a pretty print you’ve chosen, and I think you’ll have several options for embellishing, etc. It will be fun to see what you do with it.

It actually reminds me a little of a print I chose for my bedroom when I was 11 or 12;mom made curtains and bedspreads for me. I loved it!

Charlotte, I just found the perfect t-shirt for you. It says “I did not trip. The Floor looked sad so I thought it needed a hug.” It’s at sagefinds.com

  2. I have just recently found your blog. I have American Girl dolls as well as some Daisy Kingdom dolls and others that I sew for. Just for fun and hobby. The fabric you have chosen is beautiful. You have done such a wonderful job with the layout of the fabric design…just perfect. Look forward to seeing more.

    1. Hi Sandra,
Welcome to my blog… I hope you’ll join in with all of us and please let us know a little bit about yourself… what dolls you have, if you sew for them, who are your favorites, what state you’re from, and anything else you’d like to share with us… we’ve been dubbed as the Sofa Sisters, so find a seat….
      Blessings, Jeanne

This is a very pretty print, Jeanne, and is perfect for the holidays, and Civil War too! I am guessing that Addy will be chosen to wear this, and the colors are sure to be perfect for her!

I’m not sure what this Word Press is that everyone is talking about, but I have had no issues since Sarah fixed things. My only thing is I used to get your blog at 1:00 in the morning, but that went away a year or so ago, with nothing done by me, so I wonder what happened there. I am happy to get the blog at 5 in the morning, and a not complaining about that!

This is pie making day for me, plus getting everything lined up, making that I have enough of everything, etc. I sure hope there will not be a run to the grocery store today!

    Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone!

I love what you have started working on. I would love to see a shorter length with pantalettes. Except for Felicity, I am not a fan of long dresses on the American Girls because they are clearly young girls not ladies. This is a pretty fabric with lots of potential for accessories. Looking forward to watching you create this holiday outfit!

Very, very attractive and festive print, Jeanne. The way you cut your pieces to make the back closing so beautifully impresses me so much.
Happy Thanksgiving to all, and Linda, I don’t know about WordPress either! 🤣🥰

WordPress is the service that Jeanne uses to host her blog. It is listed at the bottom of every page. 🙂 Same old here. Have to go to Google to get the blog as the one I get does not work anymore.
What a lovely dress for one of the big girls. I know that some of the Meadow girls can wear American Girl outfits, maybe this one as well? Their measurements are posted on the Meadow website meadowdolls.org. The top reminds me a bit of a schoolmarm. It would be a cute blouse too with a solid skirt. Can’t imagine Jeanne has any time today to actually sew, but maybe she isn’t hosting Thanksgiving this year?
I’ll be working on two dishes to bring tomorrow as we journey to see the grands. Weather is supposed to be nice so we can be outside for awhile.
We actually ventured to Costco yesterday fairly early. By the time we came out, cars were lined up waiting for someone to leave so they could take their parking spot. Wasn’t bad inside and lines moved very quickly. I think they had every employee from the office working the floor as well.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. 🙂

Joy, so what was I getting previously at 1 a.m., that I am not getting anymore? Was WordPress sending the blog to me twice?
I remember seeing Monkey something too, with a drawing of a monkey.
No problem if you don’t know!😊

  7. This is a very pretty Civil War era dress. The deeper red print with the green design is very elegant. I like the crisp whit collar with the green pin. I agree with Debbie- it’ll be interesting to see what else you will do.

I’ve had no problem receiving your post for the last two days. Makes me happy!

That’s a lovely dress. I think you should send it directly to me. The collar does give it an 1890’s look, but that will change (or not) with the details. The pin is perfect. In fact, this is so good that I’m just going to sit back and see what you do.
    Happy preparing for Thanksgiving, everyone.

  9. You have lots of interest already in this pretty soon-to-be Christmas dress. I too am amazed how perfectly you matched the print in back. Hope the model has her hair up so it shows in your pics😉 Did you match the pin to the fabric or the fabric to the pin? ☺️I vote for a shorter skirt and pantaloons.
It is pie making day for me too. Pumpkin, pecan, chocolate meringue , apple…covering all the requests.
I almost hate to say I’m getting the post perfectly now …hate to jinx it
    Happy Thanksgiving to everyone🦃

Love the fabric!! I have not been able to get in my sewing room so far this week because I decided to switch my spring/summer wardrobe to fall/winter. I got tired of living out of two closets. I’m actually going to send a bunch to the Goodwill. I’m the worst for not getting rid of things, especially now that I might be able to hand some things over to my granddaughter who is going to be eleven but is almost as tall as me. She takes a size 8 shoe. She is tall and slender and looks more like 13 than 11. But I have a friend who was tall growing up but never made it past 5’1″ so I’m not assuming she will always be tall because none of her family on either side is. I have a little more clothes culling to do and then maybe I can get back in to do some sewing. I have an outfit for my new LD Amelia Dawn well on its way but at this time of year it seems to not be on the priority list. Hope to get it done before it’s time to decorate for the upcoming holidays.

After many years of being “it” for Thanksgiving dinner, I’ve been off-the-hook now ever since Sean and Dionne bought their house. Aside from always doing the cooking when the kids were home, when Sean and Dionne lived next door in the mobile home we did Thanksgiving here because we had the room. I didn’t get much help because the grandchildren were needing the attention. Now the once little ones actually are a help to their parents, especially keeping their baby brother entertained so their parents can prepare the meal. So I’m looking forward to the day tomorrow. All we have to bring is David’s wonderful pumpkin pies and he’ll probably get Sean to help him with that this afternoon.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Sofa Sisters. Hope you have a great one.

  11. Now today was really weird. I received the two blogs as I used to, but in reverse order. The WordPress one that is usually in my promo folder came to my Inbox, but when I checked my promo folder the one from your email Jeanne was in there. I marked it “not promotions” which transferred it to me Inbox and then when I clicked it, I was here. I could have probably opened it from promo, but hoping the transferring will send it automatically to my Inbox tomorrow. I guess we’ll see.

What a lovely start to a civil War dress. The print is lovely and perfect coming and going. I’m guessing Rebecca will be the lucky model.
Definitely agree with Debbie that except for Felicity when the long dresses are historically accurate for even young girls i like shorter dresses and pantalettes.

Bread toasting in the oven for dressing and pie baking day for me as well, traditional pumpkin and my grandmother’s German apple pie. Yummy!
Wishing all my sofa sisters a very Happy Thanksgiving!
