A Colorful Christmas Civil War dress for American Girl dolls…

I have been trying and trying to get my pictures to capture just how pretty this fabric is…and so far only a few of my pictures look like it does in person… Let me just tell you, the red is just as bright as the green is bold. They are both very much Christmasy colors!

I had a piece of pretty green wool felt in my stash and decided to make Rebecca a dainty and “smallish” bonnet making the most of the two main colors of the fabric. I hope you like it…

I used a red ruffled velvet stretchy ribbon to embellish the bonnet and then added some red flowers and gold beads… The button I used as a “brooch” for her, is GREEN… not teal or blue like it looks in my pictures…

The bonnet ties under her chin with a red sheer ribbon… over to one side…

As I see Rebecca standing there on my cutting table, in this colorful dress and bonnet, she looks REALLY pretty and almost like a real little girl back from another era…

I still have to find something special to go with her dress…

The snaps are all sewn to the back and all the handwork is finished… Almost done, so keep watching!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Such a beautiful and festive-looking ensemble, Jeanne! Some dolly is going to be very happy with it!

Very pretty, Jeanne! i love that little hat, so Christmasy! The fabric itself makes up for the simplicity of the dress! Maybe pretty little green capelet would be the finishing touch? No matter what you do, this is a perfect Christmas dress!

Me again! I just thought this dress would look perfect for Christmas caroling! That’s why I mentioned a little capelet. Maybe a little caroling book would be cute to go with it!

  4. It just couldn’t be any prettier. Some lucky Dolly will be so beautiful in it for the Holidays and the rest of winter. The colors are so rich and the bonnet is just what it needed.
Going to try out the new hearing aides at Costco today. Hope they will be better than my old ones. The ones I have now will only hold a charge for 10 hours…used to be good for 16 or more.🥴

Love Linda’s idea of caroling. I can picture her under a gas light or carrying a lantern while wearing that cape and singing away standing in the snow as the flakes slowly drift to the ground. 🙂

  6. Jeanne, the hat is perfect and I agree with Linda, she could be caroling and she needs a cape. I also think she needs some band or sash at her waist but not the same material of her dress.
I like Joy‘s thought of Rebecca standing and singing under a gaslight while holding a lantern. It’s the perfect image.

This outfit is perfect for Christmas.

Jeanne, I think Rebecca needs is a capelet to be warm in for Caroling in the snow. She looks so festive in this. Maybe she can even have a little drawstring purse as well on her arm or a piece of sheet music to hold like she is singing Christmas songs. You will never guess what happened to me with this fabric, I ordered it from JoAnn’s and I thought they would be able to tell me that it was ready for pickup the next day, and I would save on shipping. The next day I get an email and it says Uh Oh! Your order has ……… I said to myself what is happening? They had 7 yards at the store and I guess they did not update their inventory and I landed up not saving on shipping, but I did save on the price per yard, that was good. I am Thankful for that anyway. We used to have Hancock Fabrics as well as JoAnn’s and now we are forced to go just to JoAnn’s or a private Fabric/Upholstery place called Mill Outlet and that is it or order online. I hope this changes one day in the future. I wish Hobby Lobby and Michael’s would have more items like sewing fabric and what JoAnn’s has. Oh, I just thought of Rebecca using a Lantern that you can get at Walmart (it’s a red ornament) with her caplet. You could jazz up the Lantern for her to see at Night with her Caroling group. I hope you and George had a lovely Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. Soon we will have St. Nicholas Day and St. Lucia and then my birthday and they Christmas. Happy First week of Advent on Sunday as well.

What a sweet little outfit and Rebecca looks darling wearing it. I like the idea of a cape to keep her warm while caroling and the lantern ornament sounds perfect. I always check out the ornaments at stores and often find wonderful things for doll props. I love the sweet little bonnet. I have that elastic trim in several colors. It comes in handy a lot.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with Sean and his family. Sean and Dionne are amazing cooks. Dionne’s dad came down from Indiana but her brother and his family who live in a nearby town had made other arrangements. Her dad felt a bit sad that they couldn’t make it I’m sure, but he didn’t say for sure he was coming until three days before Thanksgiving when he actually left.

So many of my neighbors already have their homes decorated for the holidays. We hope to do at least our outdoor lights this week. My tree is prelit so after Sean helps me put it up I can take my time putting the ornaments on since even with just the lights it still looks festive from the outside. My village takes a bit longer but I enjoy seeing it evolve. But I can’t start the village until the tree is up because I can’t position the table and put in the leaves before that. Much to do.

  9. The bonnet is adorable. I love that style. I guess it’s unanimous, Rebecca should be caroling. A lamppost or lantern would evoke a perfect Dicken’s scene. I have to get the Christmas spirit going her, so have to run.

    1. I’m back, Jeanne. Elaine mentioned she found this fabric at her Jo Ann’s. Would you mind sharing the details because I would love to find some at well. Thank you!
