A shopping trip to Cape Girardeau Missouri!

We decided late Monday night a shopping trip to hit some of our favorite antique shops in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, would make a great Anniversary trip. We left early and stayed late…

We have a few shops we like to go to so we started off at the Spanish Street Mercantile. My hubby likes it there because they have lots and lots of tools… vintage tools are things he loves to find… that is vintage tools that still work and do the job! He bought a few things in the “bargain basement” but I didn’t find anything this time, so I walked across the street to Brick Street Antiques while he kept looking. Guess what I found in one of the booths? Vintage fabrics…so I picked up a few…the wool piece is hopefully going to be a winter coat for a doll…

My hubby spotted me sorting through those fabrics…

Follow along with me as we look at some booths…

I loved this stool/bench… someone had made it but it was done really well.

I’m P-R-E-T-T-Y sure this next booth is the most Shabby Chic booth I have EVER seen. If you LIKE pink…zoom in and have a ball…

This little pink sweater reminded me of granny squares… isn’t it sweet?

I found some little vintage handmade doll clothes…

This sweet dress was my favorite…

I passed by a mirror and had to take a peek at my eye… today was the first day I’ve used any concealer and eye shadow… it felt kind of strange being on an anniversary trip with a black eye…

This was a real phone booth… it wasn’t for sale but certainly got lots of attention… I bet there were some groups trying to see how many people they could cram in it..

We went down in the basement of the last shop we visited and the decoupaged pictures around the walls reminded me of the pictures of our bathroom I shared a while back…

We ate a late lunch at a nice Italian restaurant between a few shops and ended our day saying this was a wonderful anniversary trip… thanks for tagging along!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, a big thanks to everyone for your nice comments. I tried to reply to as many as I could, so if you asked me a question, you will find an answer.

Jeanne, I’m so glad you and George got to take this special trip for your anniversary. Thanks for sharing pictures with us. You found some interesting fabrics–can’t wait to see what you’ll do with them!!

In those pictures of all the “pink” stuff, I especially liked the lace-covered lamp shades. So pretty!!

Tomorrow I have to get my laundry area tidied up and some stuff moved, as the plumber comes Thursday to replace our drain in the bathroom sink upstairs, and some pipe going into the basement. I have a tendency to use the laundry room as a catch-all, so I need to move some things so they have room to work!

What a great getaway you and George had, Jeanne, in one of my favorite towns! You certainly gave me some places to look forward going to when Michael and I make our annual trek back to Cape in the fall! Back in the “olden” days, when I was going to school there, that part of town was where you bought current things, not antiques! There might have been some stores like that, but that was our main part of town! We walked everywhere! Not so today when all the newer places are!

Oh, that shabby chick pink place!! I love that sweet little girl’s dress, and the tiny pink shoes with rosebuds beneath it! The lace lampshades! That darling granny square sweater and white crinoline beneath it! And I certainly can see Molly in that pretty blue and white doll dress that you also especially like! Maybe it will still be there when we visit!

Thank you for “taking us along” on your anniversary trek!

It looks like so much fun. I’ve really missed the antique shows we used to have here. Maybe they’ll be back this year. The one in fall is Pumpkin Pie Days, in spring it’s the Strawberry Festival — beautiful things and an inexpensive lunch. It used to be a time my mom’s family would come — aunts, cousins, grandchildren. I’m glad you had such a lovely break.

Dear Jeanne, first Happy Anniversary! Second, thanks for allowing us to tag along on your excursion. I love to go to antique and second hand shops. I don’t usually find things but it is so much fun to look.

    1. What a great way to celebrate. That one shop that you took a wide angle picture of is amazing. You could spend a week in there! The tiny dark blue print in the fabric picture is in my stash too… I think it was a dress I made one of my girls…so it is surely vintage…they are both in their 50’s now☺️. So did you buy anything…just the fabric?
Good luck with the plumber Charlotte. It’s always scary to start in on plumbing..one thing leads to another😵‍💫
That black eye is hanging on…but so glad the bubble is gone👏

Didn’t you two have a great day?!? Positively awesome and good for you. Hope there was a special meal involved, too.
I laughed at your comment about your black eye on your anniversary and trying to cover it up with makeup. Jeanne! You should have put makeup on the same eye on George so the two of you would have matched! 😁😆😉 Just a little of Sal’s sick humor.
Funny thing that has happened with my aging. I used to so enjoy stores like that and crowds at events. Not any more. I hope you can keep enjoying that together with George. Back in the day, my hubby and I would be on the lookout for antique advertising thermometers. They were so fun. We brought some out here to CO and left the bulk at our old home for our son.
Hope the kids got home safely and that you have a great day. Finishing up the sewing room?

  6. Sounds like a really fun day. I also enjoy going to antique stores and seeing things. Unfortunately, we’ve lost two during the pandemic. I love the old phone booth, such an icon of another era.
That blue and white doll dress is sweet, and I think the price was only $8.99.

Ah, a visit to the home of my ancestors who settled there before 1850. Looks like there are some great shops.
I can see that b/w print fabric as a cute Halloween/fall dress with some orange or rust contrast details. 🙂
I’d forgotten about the days of phonebooth cramming and seeing how many could be squeezed into a Volkswagen Beetle as well. Don’t think it would fit into our living room though. Definitely would be a conversation starter. 🙂
Glad you guys had some fun time.

What a lovely trip to such fun places. David and I used to do some of that at least once a year on our anniversary but these days that kind of walking doesn’t work well for me. I can walk for exercise but can no longer comfortably do what I call the “mall crawl”. Thus I have opted for onlineshopping most of the time these days. No more “shop till you drop” for me and I used to love it.

I love that little dress and the pink booth is really, well PINK. No phone booth cramming for me unless I get to be the last one in – first one out. I believe my claustrophobia gets worse each year.

Love your new fabrics and can’t wait to see what you do with them.

It is late but I could not let the day escape without wishing you and George a Happy Anniversary! Your eye is looking much better – that is a good thing because that is an amazing shop you posted pictures of today.
