Some sweet dolls to see…

Oh my goodness, again… lots of comments and chatter about lily pads and water plants! I’m glad you all found things to chat with each other about because I was kept quite busy with Rebecca and my hubby… We went to Logan’s Roadhouse for my birthday and met up with Kristoffer. Then the guys went to Harbor Freight and Menards, while Rebecca and I looked around at the Renew thrift store and the Goodwill. We went to a Senior Citizens Center which has a nice thrift store in the back and Rebecca found some nice things for her Poshmark selling.

The eye place called this morning and let me know my arrival time for my eye surgery is 5:30a.m. YIKES! It’s an hour from our house and they are doing road construction on the road we need to travel, so my hubby wants to leave at 4:00-4:15 at the latest… Oh my goodness, I’ll have to be in bed at 8:00 tonight because sometimes I don’t even fall asleep until 3:00 or 4:00!

A few ladies helped me out with pictures again and Linda is up first! Thanks Ladies!

Jeanne, here is a picture of my 40’s girls. Molly, Susan, Ruthie, and Betsy are stopping by the ice cream stand on their way to the pool. All swim suits are AG, and Betsy’s is a Wellie Wisher swimsuit. School starts next week for them, so they have a few extra days of summer vacation!

Then Jan sent me a picture of her sweet Little Darling modeling the prettiest dress and a pair of my sandals!

Happy Birthday Jeanne!
Mine was yesterday, so we’re kinda twins except for the exact date, and I’m a few years older- lol!
My Little Darling Claire is all dressed up for your special day, wearing your adorable sandals❤️

(Jan, I recognize that sweet romper set as one from Magalie! It’s adorable on Claire!)

Charlotte sent a few pictures too!

Hello Jeanne,

I thought I would send a couple of pictures along for you to share. The LD/ning group is having a bit of a contest, taking/posting a picture of your LDs in some location in your town. So the close-up view was my entry. I’m including both shots for you, as it makes more sense to see the whole thing! Below are my descriptions (#1 being the distance shot and #2 being the closeup). Charlotte

#1 shows the main bear statue outside our Mountlake Terrace Library. There is another cub, free-standing, a few feet behind the momma bear. I’m sorry I didn’t think to take a picture that included him, too! These bears are a very popular feature in our town, and probably every child who’s lived or visited in our town since the current library location opened and the statue was erected (1988) has climbed on one or the other of the bears! The toddlers love the little free-standing cub; it’s just the right size for little legs to straddle. Bigger kids (including my son, who was 13 in 1988!) love to climb on the back of the momma bear, behind the child who is already perched there. Our grandson Isaac has also done that, when he was about 10, I think, and was out here for a visit.

#2 shows a close-up view of Maisie (red hair) and Cora, two of my Little Darlings dolls, on the back of the cub next to momma bear. They are wearing animal-print shortalls that I made for them. I still need to make short-sleeved t-shirts (and I actually got out my pieces of interlock left from past projects, and chose colors to go with the prints), but the shortalls are all finished now (all 7 pairs!). The t-shirts will be easy-peasy compared to the shortalls!! They had a wonderful time riding the bear, and now all the girls want to go!! I may have started something….

Thanks Charlotte! Your girls are brave to be on a big bear like that! :o)

Hopefully I’ll see you tomorrow!
Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, I’m so glad you had a nice birthday dinner, and some fun shopping afterwards!

Oh, my goodness–if I had to get up that early, I probably wouldn’t bother going to bed in the first place! (It’s 2:13 a.m. Pacific Time as I write this–yes, I am a night owl!) I’d just figure to catch up on sleep after the fact, I think. I’ll be praying for a successful procedure, and quick recovery, too.

Linda, your girls look darling in their swimsuits. Having been a girl about that age in the 1950s, I can tell you that the style of Ruthie’s (I think–far right, behind the ice cream cart) is very accurate–it’s almost exactly like my red and white checked swimsuit from that era!! I hope the girls didn’t eat too much ice cream and end up with tummy aches!

Belated happy birthday to you, Claire, and thanks for sharing pictures of your beautiful Claire! She looks lovely in her outfit, and I see that her new sandals fit her really well, and are comfortable, too.

I’m glad you were able to use my pictures, Jeanne. Everyone in town loves those bears, I think! And we love our library. When we first got married (1974) the library was in one long, narrow room in the Civic Center. The shelves were so close together, you had to squeeze past other patrons, or one would have to step out to let another in! The intermediate location was in a former school, which probably quintupled (at least!) the space we’d had before. Then in 1988 we opened this beautiful building, and it has served us very well since then. If you’d like to see more pictures, I think you can just do an internet search for “Mountlake Terrace Library”, and some will come up.

Jeanne, as I write this, it is 4;56, so you must be on your way! I hope this is a successful surgery and that those dang “floaters” just float away! You sound like you had a very fun and productive day yesterday! Wasn’t it great to have both of your chldren there for the fun, once again?

Oh my, Jan, what an adorable doll and outfit you have! How perfectly those darling sandals work with the new romper! And a late Happy Birthday to you!

How cute, Charlotte, to see Maisie and Cora “riding” a baby bear! They look so cute in their outfits, and I notice Cora has a matching hat! Hope they weren’t too scared! I can’t believe you are still up when I get up!! I am an early bird, and can’t seem to stay up much past 9 or 9:30! We certainly are not two peas from the same pod!!

It’s 7:30, so you may be recovering.

I’ve been cleaning, so everything’s a mess here, but it’s on it’s way to better. Between bouts of moving things, I dress dolls or check out Etsy for 1920’s clothes. I didn’t get Claudie, but my AG’s time travel, so I’m hoping for some non-flapper 20’s dresses. I’m not having much luck, but maybe someday soon.

    I did find these though
    https://www.etsy.com/shop/ThePaperCostumier?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=1194484907
The seller has imagined the original AG dolls as 26 year olds and re-created their original clothes in styles they would have worn 16 years later. For example, she imagines Molly in 1960 and Addy in 1880.

For real news — I asked Jeanne if she still had the watercolor dress. She did, and I got it. You know how you open a box, hoping an outfit will be as pretty as the pictures? Well, Jeanne’s pictures are always lovely, but this dress is twice as pretty. I thought, “Wow, we really messed up on this one. It should never have escaped a buyer.”

First, Jeanne’s outfits come in large, flat boxes. The outfits are protected by tissue, which is held in place, not by tape, but by pretty stickers. A note is taped to the top inside of the box. Inside the tissue, the dress and accessories are arranged to show to the best advantage. The ribbon cap was on top, with its lace overlay, beads, and pearls. The pantalettes are antique fabric and lace, beautifully delicate. Pictures cannot do justice to this dress. The dress fabric really is pretty enough to frame. Those of us who sometimes bid on Jeanne’s creations really erred when we didn’t bid on this one, and I certainly lucked out. Jeanne will have to repeat her pictures soon to refresh our memories, but you’ll have to remember that the real thing is twice as nice,

Well, it is 9:15AM at Jeanne’s, so hope her surgery is in the past and that she may be on her way home. Maybe we’ll get an update later that she is A-Okay.
How fun seeing Linda’s girls in their summer finery visiting the ice cream stand. Hope they brought treats for those adorable well posed pups as well. Too cute. 🙂
Claire is such a sweet one. Love her special look and wearing Jeanne Marie’s Boutique sandals as well. So glad Jan shared her girl with us. 🙂
How fun to see Maisie and Cora riding bareback! Look mom, no hands! Adorable photo, Charlotte. Hope you win the competition.
Around here, trying to get anything done outdoors before the heatwave strikes this weekend. Looks like four days of triple digits for us fog lovers. Ugh.

  5. Jeanne, It’s 7:30 am here on the West coast, so you are probably on your way home, or you have arrived home. Hopefully those floaters are gone when you can take that eye patch off.

Your birthday celebration sounds wonderful. How nice that your son and daughter could be with you for dinner. I know you love that!

All of the pictures are wonderful to see. It makes me feel like I know these ladies a little more each time I see pictures from them.

Charlotte, you are also on the West coast like me. I loved seeing those pictures with the bears, and a little history about your library.

Marilyn, now I have to go look at the “watercolor dress”, I hope you post pictures soon.

I haven’t been sewing much since January, I’m doing a major cleaning, rearranging and overhaul of my sewing room, taking a lot of stuff out and to the Goodwill. I would probably keep everything if I had more room.

Our senior water exercise class is closed for the annual cleaning and repairs on the pool, so I’m doing some walking and other things to exercise.

  6. Charlotte…love the bear pictures! Anytime there are photo ops with such great figures it just makes for fun pictures. Omaha has an awesome Pioneer story that covers several blocks downtown. It is covered wagons, Pioneers and their children, wildlife and Buffalo. I’ll see if there are pictures for Jeanne😉
We all have our own schedules don’t we☺️ My other person has an awful time sleeping so he does his best sleep after 4 am..and if I’m up getting ready early I wake him…so I try to be on his schedule.
Marilyn, I’m so glad you got the Watercolor dress. I just loved it. Not having an AG was the issue here.
Linda…did you have to use a tweezers to set up all the ice cream treats?🤗 Jan that is the perfect outfit for Jeanne’s Flip flops.
Hope you are home and recovering Jeanne…let the family wait on you today👏😊

  7. Well, it’s 1:00 and I hope you’re home and recovering now, Jeanne, and that everything went well.
Congratulations on the Watercolor rRegency, Marilyn.
How sweet your girls look, Linda. I’m sure that each got a sweet treat and the pups might have had a taste of vanilla. I see you have towels. may I ask you the measurement of whichever is the largest? I want to make a couple of towels to use as a beach towel and hair wrap for my sometimes 1980’s girl so she can twin with Lily May (Coconut) in her hair towel. Thanks so much!

Jan, I hope you had a wonderful birthday. Your Claire is so sweet. That is one of my doll’s middle names. Magalie’s work is lovely. I use to love to see her creations of the doll board.
Your girls had a grand time on the bear, Charlotte. Maisie and Cora are so cute in their shortalls. I hope you win the competition with your creative photo.

  8. Linda in St. Louis

Laura, I have actually 4 of the towels that AG makes. By far, Molly’s green beach towel(which is not seen here) and Julie’s towel, which is, (Susan has it), are the biggest and best. They are nice and fluffy and measure 10” by 15”. The modern towels are skimpy compared to that, 5” by 10”.

    1. Thank you so much, Linda! I knew I can get terrycloth at Joanne’s, but needed the size. Seems AG shrinks everything over time.

  9. Barbara in SE Texas

Sounds like you had a second nice birthday dinner. I know you enjoyed having the whole family together. I heard that the Logan’s Roadhouses were all closing down. Another COVID casualty. Hope you had some nice finds in your resale shops. I remember having to be at the hospital at 5 a.m. for David’s heart surgery. It was a long day. Thankfully he didn’t have to be at the hospital until 10 a.m. for his two knee surgeries.

Charlotte, such adorable pictures of your sweet little dolls on the back of the bear cub. They sure are brave. Cute outfits. Hope to see them all some day. Shortalls are cute but they can be a pain to sew at times. Can’t imagine seven of them.

Linda I love your ice cream social picture. My poor girls have no swimsuits. I keep saying that I will remedy that every year but I never seem to get around to it. I have several cute patterns so I don’t want to buy them suits. I love the ice cream cart.

Jan, I love your picture of Claire and I recognized her as coming from Magalie because I have two of her wonderful outfits and am about to get a third. I have a Claire but she is a blonde. I do like her with the darker hair.

Thanks, Jeanne for posting all the pictures. They are so much fun to see. Hope all goes well with your surgery.

  10. Hi everyone,
It’s me checking in… they’re calling me the one eyed mom, the one eyed dress maker, and the one eyed dish washer!
My surgery went just fine and I’m back home now. They said I’d have a patch over my eye for a day and get then go back to the dr here in town and get it taken off. I was expecting a patch, but a clear plastic patch with holes in it like I got when I had my cataracts removed. But this one is a solid patch with the plastic on top and taped all over the left side of my face. It feels strange, like my eyelashes are caught in the tape. The surgery didn’t hurt one single bit… but the numbness from the shot in my eye is wearing off and it feels like my eye is a little bit strained…
I am counting down the hours till tomorrow morning!
    I’ll talk to you then,
    Blessings, Jeanne
    ..

    1. Glad you’re home, Jeanne. Eat a box of chocolates and pet Rueben to take your mind off of things. The combo of chocolate and pet fur always works for me. Some soothing music helps also.

    2. Joy in northern CA

So glad to hear you are done and will get the patch off tomorrow. So, what if you took off the patch and freed your eyelashes? Of course, put it back on with less tape to make it more comfortable as well. Hope the eye discomfort goes away soon. Did they recommend anything for pain? Won’t it be fun tomorrow for the great reveal to see that the floaters have disappeared? 🙂
And you certainly should not be doing dishes. Leave that to George. 🙂

  11. Sally from Colorado

Hi, Jeanne. Hope today went smoothly and the best results will be yours. That was an awfully early start. 😣Well, it’s behind you now and the kids are there and can help out. Glad you and Rebecca got to go on your fun prowls.
Oh, I see you just wrote as I am writing this. Well, that is great news!
Jan, your little Claire is a beauty!
Charlotte, Cora and Maisie are having a ball and are probably hoping everyone notices their wonderful shortalls!
Linda, your scene made my day! When I first saw it, I laughed because it is perfect and fun.
Marilyn, I would love to see the dress you are talking about. Congratulations!
Joy, I hope your forecast gets toned down a bit. Our heat is cranking up more this weekend and through Thursday.
Thank you everyone for sharing your great pictures. Get a good sleep tonight, Jeanne.
