Happy “5th” of July to everyone…

Sorry, I accidentally missed the email of the pictures Linda took of her girls all dressed up for the 4th of July, so I decided we’d pay tribute to them and celebrate the “5th” of July! I’m sure no one here will mind… :o)

Get ready for some red, white and blue cuteness!

Jeanne, here are some pictures you can show if you don’t have anything going for Monday. I have Betsy in her new sandals by herself. She loves them!

I never buy a specific dress for a holiday that I can’t use for other days, so I just find red, white and blue clothing for the dolls to wear for the Fourth. That’s what the modern girls are doing. The Ling sisters, Ivy and Emmy, are wearing (ahem) Jeanne Marie patriotic slips, with blue blouses. Scarlet is wearing an AG Jazz costume.

For the 40’s girls, well let’s pretend they are on a float in the Fourth of July parade in St. Louis. They are wearing their tap dance costumes, and Betsy is wearing a tutu from a Christmas outfit and a top that goes with a pair of capris. And of course, her sandals, although we didn’t have them at the time this picture was taken. Molly is holding her 48 star flag, and Ruthie and Susan are twirling their batons.

Then, Molly’s mother made lunch for the girls, well, just two girls, and has a patriotic theme going there. They are having hot dogs, corn on the cob, potato chips, lemonade and cupcakes for dessert.

A bonus picture is one of my lilies in my yard. We didn’t yet get to the Botanical Garden to see the lilies, due to the hot, humid weather we have been having, so this might be the only flower picture I will have for you!

Stay cool!
Love to you, Linda

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

Thank you Linda! There’s LOTS to look over and see all the details. I am keeping busy finding and taking pictures of my doll clothes I will be selling. Maybe I can tell you tomorrow how I’m going to do it! :o)

See you then,
Blessings, Jeanne

I so enjoyed Linda’s pictures! The girls are certainly ready for the holiday festivities! Those petticoats are pretty enough to be used as skirts, aren’t they? I have a couple of them here, too. I think I might need to make something to go with them, though.

Molly’s lunch certainly looks good! I see her mom also made a gelatin mold in the shape of a star!

Linda, your lilies are beautiful. I love those colors! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Jeanne, for showing the pictures! Yes, we are all decked out in red, white and blue here!

Thank you Charlotte, for your kind words, and I see that I forgot to mention the jello mold on the table! I love that little piece, made by someone I can’t remember now, that makes food for AG dolls. I remember fondly jello molds from my childhood and it was always fun to see what my mother put in them! I remember bananas in red jello the best, and blueberries in orange jello. It was a special treat when my mother cut up jello in little squares and served it in a fancy dish, topped with whipped cream! So many combinations, those were the days!

Yes, those patriotic slips can do double duty very well! So glad I have them! They seem almost too pretty to be hiding underneath a skirt!

So far, so good with my lilies. The deer seem to have found someone else’s lilies for lunch, although spraying Liquid Fence also seems to be helping.

Dear Linda, thanks for sharing your photos. Your girls look pretty and proud.

I always love Linda’s pictures and all the lovely detail. Jeanne’s sandals are so cute in that very cute picture of Betsy, who looks very proud of them. The petticoats are way too pretty to hide. I’m glad Linda found a way to show them off. Lunch looks good enough to eat.

My favorite jello, from long ago extended family picnics, was grape, with bananas and topped with whipped cream. Remember the excitement around the Pillsbury Bake-Off? I was 10 or 11 when I made the My Inspiration cake from the Bake-Off to take to a family picnic. My aunts were all excellent cooks, so I had real competition and was thrilled when all the first people in line grabbed pieces of my cake. It set my reputation. Here’s the recipe:

Thank you, Marilyn! I can’t say grape jello was my favorite, although I love grapes and grape jelly, but that’s it!
I too, think those petticoats are way too pretty to hide!
That cake looks yummy, and I might give it a try!

Thanks for sharing that recipe. I know other person would love it. 🙂 As to Jello, the only kind I liked was lime. Usually plain. But, if something was added, it had to be pineapple and bananas. 🙂

Thanks for the cake recipe. I’ll give it a try. And I love jello of all kinds and ways but I remember visiting my grandmother in the summer and she made cherry Jello with bananas. Seeing that combination always brings back fond memories of summer vacation with my Nanna. She passed away in 1978 but I still miss her and love reliving the memories we shared, including afternoon tea.

  4. Linda, your pictures are always so much fun to see and we all appreciate your effort of sharing your pictures with us! Betsy’s sandals are adorable and compliment her outfit.
The girls look so patriotic and the lunch looks yummy. I’ve always liked your kitchen and wonder what company makes it? Thanks.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Paula, that is a Wolverine kitchen. I had a couple of the pieces as a child, but these were bought on Ebay. Thank you for your compliments!

Dear Jeanne, I hope you are feeling better.

We are excited to see what your next project will be.

Modern Doll Collectors Club is holding its 2022 convention in Oklahoma
City in September. Here is the weblink:
    https://moderndollcollectors.org/2021-moonlight-and-roses/

I won’t be attending. I thought the Sofa Sisters might be interested in learning about the convention.

  6. Linda…those 4th of July pictures are fantastic. I loved the way you put all kinds of pieces together….just like we do when we look in our closet for something fun to wear. That jello mold is a lot…looks so real! Thanks for showing us the scenes
Looking forward to seeing all the packets of clothes you are putting together Jeanne. Any for Little Darlings or RRFF clothes that you found?☺️

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Kathie! I wish you could see what I have to look through to get an outfit that goes with what the other girl is wearing! So many outfits, but it’s fun for me! Yes, that jello is really cute, and looks so good!

  7. Laura in Ohio

Always fun to see your pictures, Linda, as your girls are always doing something exciting. Everyone looks so cute and I love that Coconut gets to join in on the fun. Your baton twirlers are adorable. I remember kids doing that in the 1970’s as well.
The little jello mold is wonderful and so realistic. I wonder if it was Winter from AGPT who made it?
You lilies look so pretty also. Mine seem to be one of the few flowers that are tolerating the heat well here.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you Laura! YES, finally now I remembered that it was Winter that made that jello mold! I was trying to remember who she was. I also have a chicken dinner that she made, actually two of them. So cute!
Do you know if she is still on AGPT? I haven’t seen her comment lately.

Yes, my lilies are really coming out and blooming now. I just had some stargazer lilies open today! So pretty!

  8. Lauren From The Land of Lincoln

    Linda,
Awesome pictures! I LOVE ❤️ seeing dolls all well…dolled up!😁 Your dolls look great in their star spangled apparel! Do you like to collect doll food too? I don’t necessarily mean collect but do you like to have enough? I have quite a bit! Your Lily’s look lovely ☺️ We had a few in our backyard for yearly summer but then they died off. That is how they always come.
I dressed up my MaryEllen doll for the Fourth of July 🇺🇸 In a dress that looks more like a sailor suit and 👒 hat! She loves the dress and won’t get out of it!

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Lauren! If you collect AG dolls, I am sure you recognize the 40’s girls costumes, from Molly’s collection. This is the one time I put them on the dolls to look like they are performing.

As for food, I have quite a bit, mostly from AG. I have the kitchen for Molly with her table, so I like to dress it up and decorate it for the seasons. The refrigerator is full! I also have Felicity’s table and chairs, and keep that decorated too.

You need to send in a picture of Maryellen to Jeanne! Sounds cute!

  9. Joy in northern CA

Very nice seeing Linda’s girls in their great outfits. Very festive.
Love the lilies. Saw that it is supposed to be 103 in St. Louis today. Ugh. Hope it cools down for you. I do hope you can still make the botanic garden as the photos are always amazing.
Here, we are having very unseasonable weather. Cloudy and actually had some sprinkles last night. Usually, we have no rain until October, so this is unusual as well as it being very muggy as well. Not liking it at all.
Finally finished a r/w/b striped skirt for the RRFF kids. Definitely late for this year, but I’m sure that they won’t mind. 🙂
Keep cool and hope those storms we heard about aren’t coming anyone’s way.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Joy! Yes, it is extremely hot here, and humid to boot! Right now it is 102 and the heat index is 110! It was a stay in day for sure! I had my grandson here today, so we watched videos and ate ice cream. What else can you do?

We will get to the Botanic Garden one of these days, but not for awhile, it looks like! I am missing their amazing lily display, but have quite a few in my own yard now, so that helps! Your weather sounds good to me!

  10. Elaine M. Hoffman

Thank you for sharing Linda’s 4th of July photos of her girls. I wondered where Linda got those adorable batons for the dolls? I use to twirl in H.S. and was in all kinds of parades and Football games, Basketball games and was once on TV at Hofstra University in 1977 my Junior Year of H.S. twirling to Rhinestone Cowboy by Glen Campbell. I still have my baton, somewhere in my house with my horseback riding crop and helmet. So adorable those photos are of her dolls. I also love the Lillies you also posted Jeanne. I love the ruffles on the outsides of the flowers. So beautiful.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Elaine! I bought those batons from someone on EBay maybe 8 years ago. I remember their being a discussion on AGPT about batons, and they gave out the supplier of them on EBay, but it has been so long ago, I don’t remember. But maybe you could look for them there or even on Etsy. They are really cute, and metal too.

You certainly sound like a very accomplished twirler! My sister could really twirl too, but I never had the knack for it, I could start out fine, then couldn’t keep going! You probably can’t see them in the picture, but Ruthie in the middle,
has her marching boots on. Did you wear a uniform?

  11. Barbara in SE Texas

Linda, I love seeing the pictures of your dolls and the settings are always great. Betsy is her usual picture of cuteness and the others all look so wonderful and ready for July 4th festivities. I also have that patriotic slip. I felt it was too pretty to hide so I made a dress that shows it off. There is a picture on page 2 I believe of the reviews on Jeanne’s Etsy site.

Had a great 4th with Sean and family. Dionne cooked dinner and we watched the movie “Jungle Cruise”. Great movie and you don’t have to censor it for kids. Unfortunately even the Disney movies these days require some scrutinizing but this one does not. David and I need to watch it again. There is so much to see that I’m sure we missed some things.

What we did after the movie was fun too but probably would not meet with the approval of some of my sofa sisters. Let’s just say I love fireworks and they are legal where my son lives. I especially love sparklers. Sean just wishes people would limit them to one night because one of their dogs does not like them so she sleeps with Skyy for several nights while people run out their supply. Quite frankly I don’t know how they afford enough to keep it going so long. Thankfully no one here seemed to be doing them last night. They are illegal in the city which means those that do them are doing it on the QT in their backyards where the grass is dry rather than in the street as we were. My dog does not have a problem with fireworks but doesn’t like thunder. I haven’t found a way around that one. When we have thunder she and I become conjoined.

I should have my new driveway a week from today. Sorry to lose my giant birdbath in the driveway. It was fun to watch the birds after a rain, but my garage and my car will stay a whole lot cleaner.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Oh, the new driveway sounds wonderful. We need to replace ours as it is cracked and worn down to the cross wires that secure it in some places. Hope you can relocate your birdbath. 🙂

    2. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Barbara! Yes, those slips are really cute and can do double duty! I’ll have to check to see what the dress is that you made.

I don’t mind fireworks at all, and I love sparklers too! I remember writing my name with them as a girl! They are illegal here too, but what did we do last night? Sat out on the deck and watched all those “illegal” fireworks!😊

  12. Debbie in North Carolina

Linda, I enjoyed seeing all the girls in their patriotic themed outfits. I agree, the outfits can’t just be for one day! That would be a lot of clothing changes. Nice lilies. I am happy for you that the deer have gone for now.

    1. Linda in St.Louis

Thank you, Debbie! When I had fewer dolls, I changed them every week! With 12 dolls now, I just don’t have the time! Now I change them in groups, every 2 or 3 weeks.

The deer, so far, have not been around in my yard, but they are in the woods, and I have to keep spraying! Now our problem is moles! Ah, nature!
