A little bit of orange and black for the dolls…

HI everyone,
Thanks for watching the auctions last night with me… it seems like everyone had front row seats… The dresses went to 3 different ladies… a few of you asked about them…

I am still painting so you’ll have to stay tuned if you want to see the room when I finish. In the meantime, Susette sent me some pictures of her girls dressed up and said, “If you are still painting and need something, you can use these.” Well, I’m still painting and I decided Susette and I would share a post today…

If you look closely, you will see that this is Molly hiding under that mask…

Here is another one of her…

…and one with Addy…

I do believe we saw Molly in this same Hawaiian set at Linda’s house… :o)

…and Kit looks like she’s wearing the flapper set Linda had on Ruthie!

Thanks Susette… I did need something to fill in the gaps today… You can tell everyone more about your doll’s costumes if you like.

Okay, now I’ll share a few of my doll dresses made in the many October’s that I’ve been sewing. Many of my loyal readers will no doubt see things you’ve seen before, but I have picked up over 25 new subscribers since the beginning of October and they might be seeing them for the first time.

My all time favorite orange and black dress has to be this one, modeled by Lian… my 13″ Dianna Effner Little Darling…

Sorry about the picture overload on that one… I REALLY did love it on Lian! :o) …and ONE of the Sofa Sisters owns it and has had it in her collection since October 2012! :o)

This was my Wren Kish doll, by Helen Kish in a fun mix and match set in orange and black.

It was fun putting all the “accessories” together with this outfit.

Next up is Katie Effanbee in her version of black and orange fashions…

I hope you have some orange and black fabrics in your stash and can dress your doll in them. :o)

Thanks everyone, it’s bedtime for me!

What fun photos to share for today’s post!! I love the black lace on the dress Susette’s Molly is wearing–I think it would be fun to add to a dolly skirt–or maybe even a people-sized skirt!! All the girls in the pictures look wonderful!! I guess I’d better get on the stick and get my bigger girls (AGs mostly) in their Halloween costumes! (My LDs and RRFFs don’t have any Halloween things…yet!)

Well, really, Jeanne, I think Lian would probably look fabulous in a gunny sack!! But, yes, that dress is very cute on her. I love the interchangeable skirts on Wren Kish’s outfit, and Katie Effanbee looks adorable in her outfit, too.

Thank you, everyone, for your prayers. In the course of things, I discovered Ron may not have been taking the full dose of his Dilantin every day (he has right frontal lobe partial seizures, which case periods of vagueness and forgetfulness)–he takes two different dosages to make up the needed amount, and was missing the larger of the two. So, *I* have now taken over his 14-compartment pill box (7 days, AM and PM) and just give him the next dose he needs of everything, rather than put the whole box out there. I am waiting to see if this will help him perk up a bit more. If it does, we’ll know what happened!

We are thinking, too, that it could be anxiety, which, I understand, does sometimes happen with congestive heart failure. He has an appt. with his regular doctor coming up, so we will be addressing some of these things at that time.

Good for you Charlotte the pill matron. I’m glad you have a new job although not the most fun, but definitely necessary. I can remember with my dad, my step mother would actually pour the pills out of the pill box into one of those little kid size disposable cups at each meal or time they were to be taken. Then it was easy for her to check that he had taken them all. Sometimes, with his vision loss, it was easy to miss one.

    2. HI Charlotte,
I’m glad you enjoyed today’s post… lots to look at, wasn’t there?

Super Sleuth Charlotte comes to her hubby’s rescue… Glad to hear that and I hope when you start administering the meds things get better for him.
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Good morning everyone! Before I get started, I want to thank all of you for the compliments on my dolls! I had fun with it and really do appreciate it when others that know dolls take notice. After all, who else sees them?

Leave it to Susette to dress her dolls in such a “glamorous” way? Molly is absolutely stunning as a witch, and Addy looks fabulous in her African costume. Then her big scene with all the dolls, perfect! In fact, after seeing her flapper costume that Kit is wearing, I realize that I forgot the gloves!
Thank you, Susette for coming to the rescue!

Lian’s dress is also one of my all time favorites! It doesn’t scream Halloween, but can be used any time in the fall, right up to Thanksgiving!

Jeanne, did you see that the Antique Mall, that you featured here on the blog, in St. Mary’s, was hit by a tornado and had most of the roof ripped off? I can’t imagine the damage that it must have had. All those beautiful things out and exposed to wind and rain!

It’s nice to see that Charlotte can add “nurse” to her name, among the other talents she has! Good luck, Charlotte!

(Funny note here, but I absentmindedly used “volcano” instead of “tornado” originally! Must be too early, even for me!)

    1. Hi Linda,
Sometimes I wonder if ladies would still dress their dolls and make little scenes if there wasn’t some place to show them off. Glad you like to do that and share with all of us! Don’t stop! :o)

NO, I hadn’t heard about the antique mall in St. Mary’s being hit by a tornado… I just told my hubby. We hadn’t heard it… what a shame… I can’t imagine either, what will everyone do? have sales? Water damage sales? How awful for all those vendors.

Well, I’m not sure if a volcano or a tornado is worse for an Antique store…

      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Thank you for inviting my dolls to the party. I made the witch costume for Samantha after seeing one on eBay by combining elements of several patterns. I used part of a wall hanging for the skirt and used the rest of the panel on the front door with a piece of orange plastic behind it. Addy’s outfit was made from a standard pattern that includes ones from four countries. Addy is wearing my one and only foray into sandal making. Molly, Kit and Felicity are in AG costumes. I have costumes for the rest of my nine AG dolls but don’t want to wear out my welcome.

Lian is my favorite doll that I don’t have. I’d love to find one as one of my daughters-in-law is Chinese but I know I’ll never find one. Your dress for her is wonderful as is the one for Katie Effanbee. Your collars always look so crisp. I’ve been inspired to be more creative by your combinations of fabrics and trims. I did finally find a Wren Kish doll on eBay and for a reasonable bid! Hurray! You can claim to be either a good or bad influence on your blog followers in the doll market depending on who’s paying for the dolls, but I always am, so I’m home free! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

    1. HI Susette,
Thanks very much for your contributions today… :o)

Lian is a big favorite of mine too. Sometimes I look at her and still can’t believe I won her… She used to get a lot more sewing time from me, but other dolls seem to have taken over… maybe I need to change that! :o)

Don’t you just your Wren doll? I sometimes wish I still had mine… She was SO SO poseable… I loved that about her…and her sweet mohair wig! :o)
I think we are ALL equally bad some of the time…
You sent me that picture of your pumpkin head that you knitted…and guess what I did? The next time I was in Goodwill, I saw this big zippered pouch of something… I picked it up and there were probably 25 different sized knitting needles in it. I thought of you instantly and bought it… I took them out yesterday to look at them all and put them back in the pouch… till I have time to “learn how to knit!” :o)

      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Hi Suzette,
Liam was always a doll that I loved too and knew I wouldn’t have one but there is a darling Asian Paola Reina that I bought. She is almost as sweet. Check her out☺️…way more affordable🤗

  4. Joy in northern CA

I’m a fan of Katie Effanbee’s orange/black checked dress with the perfect black/white blouse underneath. I like the simplicity of the design. 🙂
Susette receives the most creative costume award for that lovely rendition of black/orange that Molly wears so well. 🙂 Addy’s outfit receives the most authentic award. The embellishments are wonderful and what I can see of the sandals, perfection. What a clever idea to include a flashlight for the girls too. 🙂 The group photo looks like the girls are comparing their collected candy. Maybe doing some swaps? So fun to see. Thanks Susette and Jeanne for sharing.
Trying to finish up the Halloween outfits around here. Nothing fancy, just festive, but hoping to get everyone dressed before time runs out.
Natali from Russia showed up early yesterday and is fitting in well with the Siblie set. Worked yesterday on cleaning up leaves/branches from the big storm. Looking much better.
Got up early this morning to try and get appointments for our Moderna booster. I did it by phone rather than online because I wanted to get an appointment for other person also. First available were Thursday, but by the time the lady tried to book the second appt. all were gone near my time, so we went with Friday and got two close together. They were being grabbed by others instantaneously. I suspect this week is already gone so I’m glad we got in at all. Can’t wait to get that shot. 🙂

    1. Susette from Southern California

Me, too, on the vaccine booster. Called yesterday and got an appointment for Thursday! They are very popular here! Thanks for the lovely comments, Joy🥰. Love seeing your dolls, too.

    2. HI Joy,
I received your picture of Natali and will show her to the group tomorrow… When is your Victoria supposed to come? I think you said you were getting her, right? I love her looks and it’s a good thing I didn’t see her.

I also saw where there is a new contest on the Meadows page… I would LOVE to have done this one, but bad timing for me. My hubby pulled up the peel and stick tiles in the hallway and I think he wants to start on the flooring tomorrow… I am almost finished with the painting…

But we have a hayride Saturday evening and I am in charge of the caramel apples again this year. I have too much on my plate right now, but I sure would have loved to do this contest… Miro gives away such great prizes… plus it’s just fun to be a part of a contest that involves food and dolls! :o)

      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Joy in northern CA

I’ve been thinking about the food contest. I am not much on cooking with pumpkin which is a requirement. I do make a great pumpkin/chocolate cheesecake, but don’t want to make that for two people. We do not need the calories and you have to show what you have made. So, will probably have to pass. A friend won a Twinkle in the last contest. What a nice prize. 🙂
Sounds like a great start on the flooring. And the caramel apples remind me of Halloween in the past when my mother made them for the neighborhood. She did them ahead of time and wrapped them in waxed paper sacks and kept them in the refrigerator until the big night.
Phannie, RRFF is due in November. Don’t know when. Then I have a Christmas girl coming in December. Running out of room here. 🙂
Did you see that Charlene is having a bunch of Meadow Chibbies for sale? 38 factory and a bunch of painted by her. Check out Charlene’s FB or under Announcements on the Meadow site. I think the drawing to win the buying right is Thursday, but you need your choices in before. 🙂

  5. Sally from Colorado

    Hello, gang!

Jeanne, we know that room is going to blow our socks off; it must be such a great feeling seeing your progress, the difference. Hats off to you. Thanks for your creation pics. I never saw anything you made for the Chrysalis dolls until too late. What I love most about Lian’s dress is the tiny black and white check bias around the waist, the hem treatment and wee buttons, and the slip! So like some of your Addy slips with that fabric. Yum, yum, yum!

All right, Susette. I don’t know why, but I took you more for an armchair sewer like myself. A little dabbling…once in awhile making something rather satisfactorily, but not really getting into it. Well, look at you! Look at those two outfits you made. Fantastic. And the AG OFs are really cute. Seeing all these pictures make me feel like a doll mom deadbeat. My AGs and LDs are still in the OFs I shared that Jeanne made months and months ago. Too distracted with life and, of course, those RRFF. I better get on the stick and grab out my best AG Halloween and share some pics for when Jeanne is in a pinch. Thanks to ALL of you for sharing your wonderful pics . It really warms my heart to be with a group of such wonderful women who love dolls, love to sew, and share so much. What a blessing.

Joy, your rain is over and your photo on FB of little Natalie, Rory and Callie was precious. Congrats! Hope post rain cleanup is not too exhausting. Good to get those booster appointments. Yesterday I made them for both of us on the 12th. This week I am going to try to get the first of the two shots for shingles. I was told I could feel pretty useless for a day or two. I was also told not to get the booster and first shot together, to maybe wait a week, so that will work. The Covid scene is still pretty present here.

Charlotte, good move on being the dispensary detail for Ron’s medication; I bet that will make a real difference.

Barbara, I’m wondering about Skyy? Did the surgery go well and he didn’t have anything to eat beforehand? Sure hope so.

Debbie, wish I could help you pack.

Linda and Laura, hope you’re enjoying those dolls and props.

Anne, hope that new sewing machine is humming….actually, I hope ALL sofa sister sewing machines hum a bit today since that makes you happy.

    Keep smiling!

    1. HI Sally,
Thanks for your kind compliments on my painting and my sewing… I thank you and my dollies do too!
Yep, Susette is quite the seamstress. She found my blog a few years ago and decided to dust off her machine and get back to sewing… something she hadn’t done for quite some time… It was a nice feeling to think I had a small part in her enthusiasm for making her dolls some new clothes.

You were hoping Anne’s sewing machine was humming along… I was thinking more on the lines of… “has Sara escaped from her box yet?” I hope so!
      Thanks Sally,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Barbara in SE Texas

What beautiful Halloween costumes Susette’s girls are wearing. I didn’t realize the witch outfits were made by Susette. Very nice. Addy’s outfit is so authentic. We used to have a lady in our choir that was from Nigeria. She got a lot of her outfits from there. She always looked amazing.

Jeanne, I’ve never had the privilege of having a doll painted by Dianna Effner. Each time I tried she was not taking orders. You are so fortunate to have two.

Charlotte, Ron is so blessed to have you for a caretaker.

Skyy came through surgery yesterday very well. I’m sure he’s going to be a bit uncomfortable for awhile because he doesn’t get his splint removed until next Monday. He can’t go to school until Thursday because of the pain meds so Dionne is getting with his teachers so he can keep up with things since he’ll be out more than was anticipated. He has a doctor’s appointment for his concussion tomorrow.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Thanks for the Skyy update. Sounds like everything is covered although not fun at all. I’m sure today will be trying for him, but maybe he’s getting some special presents to keep him occupied? Feeling for that little guy.

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

Actually what occupied him today was Zoom class. Most kids are back in school but they still have Zoom available so in a case like Skyy’s where he’s home but able to do that, it takes a lot of stress off everyone worrying about him making up work.

    2. HI Barbara,
I only have one doll painted by Dianna… Isabelle. Lian and Janie were painted by Joyce Mathews and Emmie was painted by Lana Dobbs. But I am thrilled that I have one by Dianna. Isabelle is a true treasure for me…
Boy, oh, boy…poor Skyy… I bet he wishes now he had never walked on those rocks… I bet he never does that again… this has turned out to be quite an ordeal, hasn’t it? I will continue to pray for him and his doctor’s appointment tomorrow.
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Unfortunately, I only have a minute. A nice day today requires out in the yard to work.
So fun to see your girl’s Halloween party and all the costumes bought and made.
Lian’s dress is lovely and I love the black kitty accessories on the others.

That’s a great plan, Nurse Charlotte. Hope Ron is doing better soon.

Barbara, so glad Skyy’s surgery went well. I hope he has a fast recovery.

    1. HI Laura,
It just takes a minute to say hi and we know you are okay… Hope you had lots of fun (maybe) in the yard today.
Thanks so much for checking in…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. What a beautiful outfit on Molly, Suzette. And Addy looks so regal in her outfit. Love the lace addition to the Halloween outfit.
It’s always fun to see your girls too. All dressed up for a Halloween evening of fun! Thank you for sharing- Suzette and Jeanne!
Jeanne, hope it’s going smoothly – can’t wait for the reveal.
Loved seeing the orange and black dresses. I agree with Charlotte – Lian looks adorable in any outfit but this orange and black dress is substations on her. And I love the variety on the other girls. I especially love the plaid skirt Wren has. I am crazy about plaids and really love the orange, black, white and yellow plaid skirt you made Wren.

Oh Charlotte, it will really help if you manage the pill calendar box for Ron. I hope that makes a difference!

    1. Thanks Paula,
Glad you enjoyed this small fashion show from the dolls! They always love it when they get some show time! :o)
Well, the majority of the painting is done… I might have to give a small sneak preview…
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Kathie from Omaha

Oh Suzette…that witches dress is top notch. The woven in designs in the black lace are amazing. Such cute accessories too!
Jeanne’s dresses bring back memories. Is there a cuter doll than Liam? Possibly not! She is my favorite Little Darling…well maybe right after mold #3, the smiling Little Darling.
Had doll club today and one member brought masks from Madame Trosseau’s museum.we were quite the lovely group😵‍💫😳🎃
Good luck finishing the painting Jeanne
