A few additions for my bedroom…

Oops! Sorry I’m late today… my hubby was talking to me as I was finishing up my post last night and I guess I forgot to hit the publish button…

I wanted to answer a few questions some of you had in yesterday’s comments…

The photographer took a few pictures of us and hopefully my shoes will show up on one of them… those shoes turned out to be incredibly comfy and I was thrilled. I took them off only when we were cleaning up the kitchen because I could move a little faster in the ones with rubber soles. When we got home and were unloading everything, I found one shoe but was missing the other one… I kept thinking it would show up in the next box of stuff… when I got to the last box and no shoe, I was so sad… I was really hoping it hadn’t gotten lost in the driveway somewhere, so my hubby took a flash light and went out to look around and in Rebecca’s (our’s now!) Rav. He raised one of the back seats forward and there it was stuck down behind the seat and the floorboard. I was so happy to have a matching pair again! :o)

Kristoffer was not able to be at Rebecca’s wedding… :o( He had a wedding that he had planned to go to for months and wasn’t able to get out of. We were disappointed that he wasn’t a part of all our family times…

Yes, Linda, it is called Keller’s Crossing at Stone Creek and yes, it’s in Makanda… It is such a pretty golf course and country club! The owners were very kind to us and Rebecca said she’ll be writing a very nice review for them…

Karn’s mom is Armenian and his dad was Syrian. His mom has an accent but Karn kind of speaks like someone from Boston… just a slight dialect detected. I’ll have to ask him if he knew his name meant generous! He certainly was to agree to let Rebecca give us her Rav4.

Susette, I think you are seeing my brother, Bob… I’ll have to tell him you thought he was the youngest looking man in the pictures. He’ll be thrilled. He’s the same age as my hubby… :o)

Reuben was better today… maybe his moping around was his way of crying too! He ate some eggs this morning and some chicken for dinner…
He’ll be fine and we certainly don’t need another dog here… he’s enough by himself…

Sally, Deb is the sister in the black and white… she’s the pianist… among other things. Cindy is in the colorful top and white jacket… she’s my go to decorator…in fact, I was on the phone with her just before I started writing my blog tonight… I was VERY grateful and thankful for their help… Rebecca was too… It wouldn’t have looked like that if it had just been me…

We did most of the food preparations Friday and Saturday before the wedding on Sunday… Rebecca did all of the skewers… salami and olives, cheese, fruit on skewers, artichoke dip, pita chips, she cooked the chicken and then bbq’d it, she made bacon cream cheese crescent rolls, salad on a stick skewers, I made some little cakes for her… (I was trying to make them match her bouquet but they turned out like little Halloween cakes… ) Oh well…

Karn’s mom brought Baklava, and it was heavenly! I’m sure I have forgotten things, but those were the main dishes…

When I was talking to Cindy this evening, she said she almost wished someone had thought to have us renew our vows again as it was our 40th wedding anniversary that day too… It never even crossed my mind, but that would have been nice. Oh well, guess we’ll wait for our 50th and Rebecca and Karn’s 10th and try again! :o)

Deb’s hubby, Mike, sent these 2 pictures of Rebecca to me this evening…as I looked at them, I wondered what she was thinking… :o)

Okay, something new for you… Cindy was helping me with my new bedroom a little bit on Monday before they left… we hit a few places and I thought I’d show you what I collected… it’s not at all complete, but I have some new pieces to work with…

Cindy brought 2 pictures to me… one she bought for me on the way here… I’m hoping to use both of them in my bedroom…

The dark border is made from navy grosgrain ribbon…

We found this mirror at Bed Bath and Beyond…

I bought a new bulkier curtain rod in black…

…to hold up my new white (almost like Matelasse curtains!)

I found this handmade artsy lamp at our old Thrift Shop…

I also found these 3 little metal bird pictures…

These leaf prints came from the Goodwill… they are very heavy.

Cindy also brought 2 needlepoint pillow tops if I’d like to finish them…

So my room has a few new things I can work with and I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do with them… :o)

See you tomorrow!
Blessings, Jeanne

And here I thought Karn was Welsh. Some famous Armenians are Andre Agassi and the Kardashians. 🙂 Our son in law is part Syrian too. Glad to see a close up of the little cakes. I think they turned out lovely and not Halloweenie at all. 🙂
What fun new goodies you have acquired for decorating. That picture from Cindy of the little girl with red hair is so sweet. Hope you can use that. Looks like you might have a bird theme going on there. 🙂
Didn’t see any photos of Rebecca, but maybe we’ll see them tomorrow.
Can’t believe that it is our youngest grands 6th birthday today. How time has flown. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
Boy, I really messed up last night… I just added the 2 pictures of Rebecca…
I hope your grandson has a wonderful day today… you only turn 6 ONCE!
Just like you only turn 65 ONCE! :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Love the pic of Becca grinning. How cute! I think I would make a print and put it in a small frame. Would be lovely in your “new” bedroom on a dresser or nightstand. 🙂

I think the little cakes look wonderful and not Halloweenie at all. If you hadn’t mentioned that I would have just thought they looked like fall. No matter what they looked like I’m sure they were yummy.

It seems like Rebecca inherited your ability in the kitchen. My kids both inherited that from my mother because I sure know they didn’t get it from me. Both of them are amazing cooks. The kitchen is just not my favorite place to be. I thought that might change when I got my new, wonderful kitchen. It didn’t.

Glad to hear Reuben was feeling more his old self today. I’m sure he’ll adjust because he’s still in his usual environment with you and George and it seems that he spends a lot of his time following George around and helping him – well at least straw bossing – and riding herd on the chickens. That’s why Chelsy has to be put in her kennel when we are packing the car to travel. She wants to help. We have a joke around here about why she’s not much help. Do you remember the commercial for I think it was Beggin’ Strips? The dog says he’d get them himself but he had no thumbs. Chelsy is not much help because she has no thumbs.

I was sorry to hear Kristoffer couldn’t make Rebecca’s wedding. I’m sure both of them were disappointed but since her wedding was a bit of a surprise and the other wedding was a previous commitment, I’m sure Rebecca understood.

I’m with Joy on how time flies when watching children grow up. My oldest stepdaughter posted pictures on Facebook of back-to-school for her grandkids. My great-grandkids are in the same age range as my grandchildren. David and I are the same age but he had his first three in his early 20s. Our two were born in my early 30s. The two boys in the picture (one biological and one adopted) are in fourth grade like my granddaughter Jaiden. But what really knocked my socks off was that the oldest of the two girls is in first grade and the youngest in preschool already. Wasn’t she born yesterday? That was definitely a fast three years. But it’s hard to believe Skyy is already in Middle School and Andrea’s little boy is also starting preschool this year. He’s nearly four but his birthday is in October so he had to wait almost a year to start. And then there’s almost eight month old Azure. Before I know he’ll be in school too. Boggles the mind.

I love all the new possibilities for your bedroom. The picture of the little girl is precious. I thought when you said new things for your bedroom you might have found a comforter.

  3. The little cakes turned out very sweet and fall-like. i can’t believe you had time to bake and frost all those little squares.
Hmmm, I though Karn was Welsh as well. Just curious, where did he and Rebecca meet?
The photos of Rebecca are lovely.
Oh, I like the pictures you found. the first one could have been Rebecca as a child.
I love old magazines and books and that magazine cover is wonderful. I have one of the cover of The Delineator. The metal birds are sweet as well.

So glad to hear that Reuben is a bit better. Maybe he need a new toy?

I lost my comments! Oh dear, I guess this will be shorter now! I was so disappointed to not get or see the blog this morning! You are the one who starts my day, Jeanne, I can’t get going before reading the blog!

This little cakes were darling! I don’t think they looked like Halloween cakes at all! I thought they went along with the colors of the flowers perfectly! Did they have a wedding cake or was that the wedding cake? I can’t believe the cake decorating skills you have!

Rebecca looks so happy I. Those pictures, and I’m sure she was,……and is! What an exciting time in her life, a new husband, a new home and a new job! She’s carving her own way the way we all did when we were young. We just have to remember that, and not reflect so much on the way we mother’s feel. We raise them to prepare them for life, then let them go.

I especially love the picture of the little girl watching the bird. Like someone said, that could be Rebecca! The other little question would look nice around that.

The lamp is lovely, but maybe you could add something to it to make it more personal and interesting.
That could be another do-it-yourself project!

What goes on with my iPad when I type? I meant that the bird plaques would look nice around the picture of the little girl! Believe me, I know what I type, and I don’t know how in the world it changes what I write! Pretty sneaky iPad!

So both of you have the thrift shop luck? The little girl is darling and the color of the lady’s dress matches that of your dress for the wedding. That’s very expensive framing on the picture. My mother had gold-colored oval mirror which is now in my son’s house. I like the Matelasse for curtains. Have fun decorating your bedroom with the great finds that fit right in.

The little wedding cakes are so pretty and not Halloweenie as Joy said. A friend’s husband was Armenian and she made wonderful baklava too. My family includes a brother-in-law who is Jewish and one who is Palestinian Arab. Of course my daughters-in-law are Chinese and Indian. It’s indeed “A Small World After All.”

When I stayed at my son’s house for three weeks decades ago helping out after he’d been in an accident, he noticed the kittie sitting on top of the sofa and watching outside after I left. She’d never done that before and he finally figured that she was looking for me!

Your family sounds like mine. My stepson is biracial. David and his first wife adopted him when he was about seven months old. He was considered a difficult child to place. My uncle was Jewish and he was my Godfather. He and my aunt were amazing Godparents and took the title very seriously. My oldest stepdaughter married an Hispanic man and my granddaughter looks Hispanic. She then married a Hispanic man and had three children with him. They all look Hispanic. My stepdaughter is blonde with a very light complexion and there isn’t one child that favors her in color but we got to see what she would look like in a darker version because Amanda looks just like her mom except for coloring. Wish we had someone from India in the family. I love their cooking.

I thought the little cakes worked exactly how you wanted them to, a reflection of Rebecca’s bouquet. They don’t look at all like Halloween.

I love all those lovely items you and Cindy have bought for your room. I am looking forward to seeing them all in place. And the pictures of Rebecca were lovely, so natural. I am so glad Rueben is coming right, I agree with Barbara, he will settle down because his environment won’t change.
Spring is really trying hard to push winter away. We have a day when the temp goes up to 19C then back to 11 and 12C! Today it is very windy and 17C at only 7.20 am! Back to rain this afternoon.

On the Covid front all the country, except for Auckland who are still in level 4, are now at level 2 which means we can shop, go for coffee, go to the library (yay), go to church (so long as there are less than 50 people), and even have a wedding or funeral again with less than 50 people and they all have to social distance if they are inside. Masks have to be worn inside everywhere too. Not quite normal yet but nearly. The last three days the case no’s have been 15,15,and 13 and all in Auckland so we are getting there. My coffee group is usually Tuesday and we were still in level 3 then but Wednesday we moved to level 2 and were able to meet. (For some reason the change upset Sam’s husband Greg not sure why it isn’t as if it made any difference to him, he wasn’t going anywhere!) We will be able to meet for Church on Sunday as well and go for coffee afterwards so that will be great. I have invited the family for dinner on Sunday evening, Russell (my youngest) had his 42 birthday in lockdown but 3 of my DIL’s family had birthdays during lockdown as well so she and Darren are going to her family in the afternoon and I am waiting to hear if they will come here after or not. (They got in first lol). We will find out on Monday if we will move to level 1 on Wednesday and as long as the numbers keep declining we should be OK. I think the rest of the country dodged a bullet there, there were over 500 people who traveled from Auckland to the SI in the relevant period when our one case was passing the infection around (I’m not being derogatory he didn’t know he had it and didn’t do anything wrong) and we didn’t have one case down here. Incredible to realise that one case from Sydney (who was in managed isolation and we still don’t know for sure how it was passed into the community) has caused over 800 cases in 4 weeks and most of that time we have been in complete lockdown.

I’m going to make up a little girl’s machine smocked dress today. I cut it out yesterday, I had about 2 metres of a light blue gingham that I picked up from the free table at guild and used that so don’t feel so bad if it doesn’t work. There is a bit left so I think I will make a small sample to practice the patterns on before I do it on the fabric, it is impossible to unpick if you don’t like it. Not sure who will get it, it is a size 2 and the only little girl in the family is 3 months old!

    Have a lovely day ladies.

Anne, if you were like me the fact that the dress is a size 2 and the only little girl is 3 months old wouldn’t matter. Sometimes it takes me forever to get a project finished. I bought a couple premade, pleated yoke dresses to smock for my granddaughter. She outgrew the dresses before I got to the smocking. Not sure what was going on at that time but it must have been big. I was probably on call a lot to take care of the grandkids.

Dear Jeanne, it is great to hear more about the wedding. I thought the little cakes were pretty. Were they white cake? That’s my favorite, white cake with white icing.

I love the painting with the little girl.

    1. The first week in September is a popular time for weddings. My husband and I celebrated our 55th anniversary on Sunday, we also have friends and cousins that got married that weekend. Also, both of my sons got married that weekend. So, Happy Anniversary to everyone!
I love seeing pictures of Rebecca. I think long, red, and sometimes curly or wavy hair is beautiful.

      1. Congratulations, Diane!! 55 years is a real landmark! We aren’t quite there yet–47 last May–and my hubby is 13 years older than I, so we are just grateful for every year God gives us together!

  8. Well, I wondered why I didn’t see your blog before I shut off my computer last night/this morning!! Now I know.

Jeanne, I’m glad those shoes turned out to be really comfy! AND that George found the missing shoe!!

I’m sorry Kristoffer had to miss the wedding; sometimes things just work out that way.

The little cakes turned out beautifully, and all that food…well, MY mouth is watering! And homemade baklava…..

The pictures of Rebecca are wonderful; she is a beautiful young woman, and looks so happy!

I am loving all the new things you have gotten for your bedroom; it looks like you have your accent color, now. That sort of goldish sage-y green….Things look like they are tying together nicely. The Woman’s Home Companion picture would look equally at home in your sewing room, I think (if you have a spot for it). But I think my favorite of all the pieces are the little bird plaques!! For some reason, they really appeal to me. Can’t wait to see how you will arrange things now!

Even those needlepoint pieces will fit in, color-wise, I think. It’s good to have a project like that available for times when you really can’t sit down and sew, but want to do something textile-related. Last year when I hurt my back so badly, having that embroidery project (a long runner) saved my sanity when I couldn’t stand long enough to spend time in the sewing room!
