My favorite wedding…

Hi everyone,
Thanks for carrying on and chatting up a storm while I was away for a few days… I just sat down this evening and read your comments. They were wonderful and heartfelt and full of emotion… and I’m so glad you are all my friends… I appreciate your kind words and your responses to some awful things that have happened in the past. I was homeschooling the kids on September 11th… It was the most awful thing I had ever seen…and it still is…

I’m glad you liked Deb’s Summertime arrangement! Isn’t she the greatest? I love listening to her play! She didn’t play at the wedding, but she sure helped decorate!

No, Reuben didn’t make an appearance at the wedding… he needs to work on his “people skills!” He likes to bark too much and gets too excited when he sees people… I think he’s a bit depressed…he’s been moping around all day… wouldn’t even eat his eggs this morning!

I might be a bit biased, but it WAS my favorite wedding… and I didn’t even cry that much… well, AT the wedding, but I sure did before and since she got married! They stayed an extra day and left this morning for PA and arrived this evening. It’s so weird without her in the house now… my hubby and I have both been having our weepy moments! (LOTS OF THEM!)

I better get to showing some pictures…

Sunday morning when we woke up it was cloudy and windy and really didn’t look like it was going to be a very nice day for a wedding…but it ended up being absolutely wonderful by the evening!

Me and Rebecca and Cindy and Deb went to the Pavilion at the Country Club and began figuring out what to use and how to decorate the area where the ceremony was going to take place… As I said before… it was WINDY and gusts were blowing through the open pavilion like crazy!

It was really hard to put up the swag fabric… Rebecca was on top of the ladder and using a staple gun… and we all had that wind blown look. We laughed a lot…and we didn’t know what we were doing… just making it up as we went along! Sometimes that works out the best!

Cindy brought LOTS of wood, and lanterns and candles to use… It was really pretty when we were done…

After we were done with the pavilion, we raced home so I could get dressed and curl Rebecca’s hair… this is how it ended up…

It wasn’t super curled like she had hoped, but it was so humid, the curls just wouldn’t stay very well…

We came back to the lodge and set up as much as we could before the ceremony at 5:30…

…then we went back to the Pavilion for the wedding…It was so sweet…

Rebecca’s favorite color is green so she decided to wear green for her wedding dress…

My pictures aren’t the greatest but she’ll get some better ones soon…and I’ll share a few of them…

They walked down the middle of the aisle and got into their golf cart and headed out for pictures…

We went to the lodge with her 20 guests and had a great evening… and WONDERFUL food… mostly made by Rebecca and me…

Here is a picture of his beautiful mom… and uncle…

Monday they came back to our house and Tom and Cindy were still there… Rebecca said she and Karn had an Anniversary present for us… She gave me the box and my hubby the card…

Inside the box, wrapped up was the key to her Rav 4 that she has just bought in May… they gave it to us! We bawled, they bawled and I’m guessing Cindy and Tom did too! And we’ve been crying ever since… They made it to Pennsylvania Tuesday evening and now their new life begins…

My hubby and I have been weepy and every time one of us says something about them we both cry… maybe the tears will stop one of these days…

Thanks for all your wishes and cards to them…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Thanks for sharing all those wonderful pictures, Jeanne! That was a job and a half to get them all loaded, I imagine.

Reuben misses Rebecca! He knows she’s gone, and doesn’t understand why. He will need some extra attention for a while, I should imagine, help him get over this “hump”. He can’t cry like we can, so this is how he expresses his sadness.

It was fun to see all the pictures of the wedding, and all that led up to it. Those draperies, etc. turned out beautiful, despite the wind trying to take them away from you! And all that food…!! You and Rebecca must have been cooking for days! I would be exhausted if I tried to do all that!

Rebecca’s gown is just perfect on her. It’s lovely with her complexion and hair color, and her bouquet shows up so nicely against it.

Oh, my, what an Wonderful surprise they had for your anniversary!! Wow!! That is just fabulous, and so very thoughtful.

I’m glad the kids made it to PA safely, and pray that they have a happy and long marriage.

(I think you and George will stop crying eventually….it just takes a little time!)

I forgot to mention, you look lovely in your dress, Jeanne! It’s a good color, and a flattering style. Well done! (Hope the shoes were as comfy as they were pretty!

I want to add to your comment on 9/11 yesterday. Often after the event people would say to me, how could God let this happen? I said He couldn’t stop it but as far as I could see Divine Intervention helped minimize it. They couldn’t see how until I told them that due to transportation in NYC, most people actually don’t start work until 9 a.m. or later. I knew this because I worked for Shell and we had offices there that started at 9. Assuming that all of America started work at 8 a.m. actually saved thousands of lives that day because the timing for maximum damage was off by an hour.

And I heard personal stories that gave me chills. One I remember was told by a woman at church. She had a daughter attending drama school in NYC. Her daughter overslept that morning or would have been on the subway in the basement of the towers when they fell. God is good. All the time.

Oh Jeanne, what a beautiful wedding! I was so eager to get up and see what you wrote this morning, and was hoping for pictures, and here everything is! It’s just what a sweet, good old fashioned country wedding is supposed to be: a wedding put together with love and family, and you did it yourselves! I can clearly see Rebecca’s personality shining through, and you should be so proud of her!

My goodnes, what a handsome young man Karn is! Rebecca got lucky for sure, and his mother and uncle are very nice looking too! He certainly has to be a nice as he is good looking to have stolen Rebecca’s heart!

At first I thought you were putting together the food in your won kitchen, and wondered where the island came from, beefore I realized it was at the reception area! That was a lovely room, just the right size and perfect for the wedding style. Was Kristoffer there? I woudl think so, but didn’t see him in any pictures.

I just KNEW it was at Stone Creek! I think now it is called Keller’s Crossing at Stone Creek, and is in Makanda, not that far away from you. We have been around there years ago.

I loved the backdrop you and Cindy and Deb made, along with Rebecca. It was the perfect backdrop for Rebecca’s bride dress! She sure did surprise me with a green dress, but it’s my favorite color too, so I completely understand! I just knew she would not be wearing a veil, well, I didn’t actually know, but it was my hunch.

I must say the parents of the bride looked very nice! It certainly was different seeing George in a suit, and he looked so handsome! And the mother of the bride looks younger every time I see a picture of her! You looked lovely in your dress, Jeanne! I applaud you on all that you did to make the wedding such a wonderful occasion, and you certainly did more than most mothers of brides!

Oh my goodness, what a loving tribute Rebecca and Karn made in giving you her car! I don’t think anyone can top that! I’m still waiting for my kids to give me theirs!!! 😉

What a wonderful wedding! Beautiful bride and handsome groom! You and your sisters and Rebecca set up perfect decorations for the venue and it sure looks like you had fun doing it. Rebecca’s dress was beautiful and it may be worn for anniversary celebrations for a long time. Your dress was, too, and I didn’t even see the heart. Karen’s mother is lovely too. Great pictures of family.

You are very experienced with feeding the multitudes to put all that together and transport it in great shape. Not everyone could have pulled that off. Everything looks again picture perfect. Well done.

I did a bit of research into Karn’s name and the best I could come up with if he wasn’t Indian was Welsh, German, Irish or Nordic. Somewhere in there the meaning of the name came up as “generous” in addition to “a pile of rocks,” presumably because one lived next to one. Generous is very fitting, isn’t it!

Reuben will certainly need a bit of extra attention for a while. Animals do sense changes. You and George can be so proud of Rebecca and her wise choice to wait for the right person to spend her life with. Thanks for thinking of us and posting this great set of pictures.

    1. Susette from Southern California

Is that Kristoffer in the upper left corner of two of the pictures? He’s the only younger person I see in the pictures. I may be off but had to ask.

  4. Thank you for all the pictures! Poor little Reuben – he knew something was going on – our pets always know things like that because they love us and watch our every move. Honey, our little poodle , because of what clothes, shoes and picking up my hand bag meant something was going on.

The decorations for the wedding were lovely and well thought out. You girls made the drapes work despite the wind. Looked like you all had fun too. What nice memorable pictures of you, your sisters and Rebecca working together.

Jeanne, you looked so nice in your pretty outfit. Perhaps someone has a full length picture so we can see the matching shoes?

Rebecca looked beautiful! Loved her green dress and her hair was simple beautiful with long curls. She and Karn are a handsome couple. I wish them much happiness in their future. Many, many blessings to them.
The food table was amazing!! You both worked so hard making everything – it was perfect and it all looked so delicious.

The picture of the father walking his daughter down the isle is always such a poignant photo. George looked very nice – such an endearing picture of them together.

Thank you for sharing all the pictures and thank Deb for her beautiful rendition. She truly is quite the musician.
Blessing Jeanne, and hope you get some rest!

Thank you for sharing such a wonderful time with us. I can’t believe you all had only a few weeks to pull together such a sumptuous elegant yet subtle day. Just shows what love can accomplish. The food looked like a yummy catered affair. I guess all your practice made perfect.

Poor Reuben! I think he’ll need some special “dad” time, maybe a little extra yard work/play time. Once the hammers and paint fumes are back he”ll feel normal again.

Best wishes for a lovely couple.

Finally, the wedding! Love it. How perfect. Good job Jeanne and crew! You pulled off an amazing wedding in a short amount of time. So happy it stopped raining too.
My favorite pic is of George walking in Becca. Wonderful! I absolutely love her dress. Should I have even had one, that would have been my pick. 🙂 And Karn’s matching green tie was perfect. Can’t believe you two made most of the food as well. No wonder the stress. So much to do. But everything turned out wonderful. Glad your sisters were there to help too. What an absolutely wonderful day. And to top it off, a new car to boot. Congratulations!
When I saw Karn’s dark gray shirt, I thought, how ironic. The shirt I just finished for my RRFF Luca, is the same color although his tie is yellow. Guess, he a styler too. 🙂
Now, I am worried about Reuben. If his moping continues, maybe having a friend would help him. Perhaps, the local shelter has another boy/girl in need of companionship? If that is out of the question, lots of romps and attention is in order for the poor boy.
Can’t thank you enough for sharing the special day with us. I’ve been waiting impatiently and hoping to see a few pics. You’ve outdone yourself with the photos. Thanks for the fun. 🙂

What a handsome couple, and what a wonderful wedding venue. And I can tell from some of the pictures that the day turned out beautiful. Don’t know about temperature and humidity, but at least it wasn’t raining. Rebecca looks lovely. I like green too and her dress is very pretty. The nice thing is that she can wear it for other things, unlike my beautiful wedding gown that has been hanging in a closet for 41 years. I hoped either my daughter or daughter-in-law might wear it, but I’m such a traditionalist it didn’t fit into either of there more modern weddings.

The food looks absolutely delicious. If it were me, that would have been catered or at least picked up from a restaurant. Cooking actually stresses me like nothing else. I always said I wished cooking had been my creative outlet. I “had” to do that every day. I would have rather been sewing. Now you can add another item to your resume, Jeanne, that of “wedding organizer”. I would say “wedding planner”, but it looks to me like Rebecca knew exactly what she wanted for her big day and had no need of such a person.

Poor Reuben. Give him a petting for me. Our animals do know our routine and they don’t handle change well. Our Cocker, Chelsy, is definitely a creature of habit. She actually tells us when it’s her bedtime. When we are loading the car to head for Colorado, she is relegated to her kennel (her room) until we’re ready to leave, for obvious reasons. The whole time we are packing the car she is whimpering just to remind us we haven’t taken the most important step. Putting her in the car. When everything is ready and her “perch” is organized David opens the door of the kennel and she’s out and heading for the car like a shot. She loves road trips. Or actually she used to. The past couple years her eyesight has been failing and looking out the window is not fun for her anymore. Now she just sleeps away the miles. She will be 12 years old this month and aside from her eyesight and hearing (we’re not really sure how bad that is because she’s always had selective hearing), she’s showing no signs of aging. She still walks and runs as if she were much younger. Hopefully that will keep up for a while.

I actually did some sewing yesterday. My Siblie, Sydney, needed a back-to-school outfit so I made her Schoolgirl Charm by SewDolledUp81. It turned out really cute but my knit fabric stretched more one way than the other and, even knowing this, I managed to cut the knee socks the wrong way so I have to make them again because they are too short to be knee socks and the dress is so short it must have knee socks. It went together so fast that I’m going to make her another one today. I also have this pattern for 14-14.5″ dolls but haven’t made it for them yet.

Thanks so much for the wonderful pictures. It was a lovely wedding, and it looks like everything went together perfectly. How wonderful she gave you her car. What a lovely appreciation gift for being her parents. I didn’t have any problem with my daughter moving out. She just went to college and never came home except for holidays. Being in theater they had productions during the summer so after her freshman year in the dorm, we got her an apartment and she stayed there until she graduated. I didn’t have a problem with her getting married. It was like gaining another family member. But when she decided to move to Colorado, well that took some getting used to. While she was still living in Texas we would often meet on Sunday afternoon for lunch. She went to Sam Houston in Huntsville, TX, and was still living there after graduation and her first year of marriage. We would meet half way between Huntsville and Bellville where we went to church so we could visit. Plus she and Jamey would join us at church at Christmas and Easter. She always loved Colorado but we never thought she would do more than vacation there. I found out how my mother must have felt when I told her I was moving from Delaware to Texas. In time you will get used to her absence around the house, but it will take time. In the meantime there is always duo calls, etc., and now you can visit her in her own home and that can be fun.

    1. Hi Barbara,
I always do the same with pets until we’re ready to leave. they have to stay in a room for their safety and my peace of mind knowing they are safe. My childhood Yorkie, Phoebe Joy, had a yellow terrycloth beach towel that was hers for trips. You could lay any towel on the floor and she would ignore it, but if the yellow one appeared she knew she was coming along. My one kitty actually likes the car and when his car blanket appears he gets excited.
They also can distinguish a fun trip out to the garden/ pet store etc vs. a check up to the vet.

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

How funny about the yellow towel. And I can relate to taking a dog to the vet. Both my dogs were/are okay with the getting in the car bit but when we arrived at the vet and they realized where they were, they became like solid rocks and getting them out of the car was a difficult chore. Not to mention leaving their opinion on the floor of the vet’s lobby.

    Dear Jeanne,
Oh, my goodness! We have all been sitting on those pins and needles waiting for the curtains to draw open and to show us what it all looked like. Breathtaking, Jeanne….the beauty and simplicity, the scope of all that was accomplished is so little time, all the love incorporated in every detail. That alone really stands out to me. The food was so gorgeous and enticing. I loved the little details like the card box and the table decor and favors. Rebecca and her mama were both so beautiful. George and Tom looking very handsome and certainly the groom, too.
Looked like a real challenge putting up the drapery! And you were all laughing even as it was getting closer to crunch time. That amazes me, but, I guess that wind was welcome in the end if it was humid. It prevented clothes from sticking. Yuck!
I am very proud of those kids for giving you the car. This whole post makes me feel kind of teary because of the beauty, love, and unselfishness. Wow.
Jeanne, thank you so much for sharing all of this, and I guess we need to thank Rebecca for sharing this with us.
Please give poor little Reuben lots and lots of love these next few weeks. A “sidekick “ can work wonders, but you need to be able to handle all that goes with it. As another sister pointed out, once the hammers, drills, paint, etc starts to roll out, life will seem a little more normal to him. Yup, that sweet baby is in a funk.
Big hugs to you, George, and Reuben. One last thing…I knew Tom was officiating because you told us. Which sister is which? I’m guessing the one in the black and white check top is Cindy and the one in the green and some pictures, white jacket, Debra? Am I wrong? I am so very, very often. Have a wonderful day, and thank you for all the time you put into this blog today to calm all of us gals who were getting restless for details. WELL DONE.
    ❤️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏👏🎉🎉🎉🎉

I at first was wondering which sister was which, too! I think
Cindy is the shorter one and Debra is the tall one, is that right or not?

And I forgot to mention dear little Rueben in my comments above! Poor guy, he knows something is going on and not sure what! I think he knows Rebecca is leaving, but I think now he will be getting extra attention! Little does he know!

  9. Thanks for the wedding and venue pix. LOVELY! I’m so glad it was on Sunday, not Saturday!
I wanted to reply to some of your questions, but am usually reading your blog, “on the run “.
Rebecca’s hair looked great. You looked great. Last year my niece wore a burgundy colored dress for her wedding. Let’s hear it for different. Come to think of it my mother wore a rust colored dress to be married in. I’ll have to send a pic by email cuz I don’t know how to do that in blog comment.

  10. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, by the end of your story, I was sobbing too! What a wonderful wedding. I am so happy that Rebecca planned it just the way she wanted it.

How wonderful that you got a surprise anniversary gift, a car!

Clearly you and your husband are the role models Rebecca will be using as she creates her new life.

Your photos were lovely. Thank you for sharing them.

Go ahead and cry, if you need to. I am sure that they are mostly tears of joy and excitement for Rebecca.

And just think, now you have another reason to visit Pennsylvania!

  11. Debbie in Tennessee

Finally pictures to go with all Rebecca’s plans! Rebecca looked very calm and relaxed considering it was her wedding day and she and Karn look very happy. The food looked amazing, kudos to the chefs! I could just see Rebecca’s vision in all the details and they came together beautifully right down to her dress, bouquet, and hair. Your dress was lovely on you and a pretty compliment to Rebecca’s color scheme. My son and DIL love reading their wedding notes every year on their anniversary. Reuben has every right to be glum. Give yourselves plenty of time to be emotional.

    Thinking of you,
    Debbie

  12. Poor Reuben is sad. He doesn’t understand where Rebecca has suddenly up and left. He will need lots of extra love and attention and lots of snuggling. Furbabies know when something is amiss in their daily lives

Thank you for sharing the wedding pictures. Cindy, Deb, Rebecca, and you did a wonderful job decorating the space. George looks handsome walking Rebecca in and You look lovely in that blue dress. Rebecca looks beautiful in green. That is a great color on redheads and her hair is so pretty. Karn is very handsome. I was guessing he was Welsh.
Rebecca choices in decor gave everything a warm, homey look. The food looked delicious.
How amazing Rebecca gave you her car. What a thrilling gift.
Many blessings to the happy couple as they start their lives together.

  13. Anne Coldron in New Zealand

It was so lovely seeing all the pictures. What a lovely wedding. How you managed all that food and the decorating too, I have no idea! It would be beyond me, so very well done. Look forward to seeing more photos that you haven’t taken so we can see you properly in that lovely outfit.

What a lovely gift for you. A fitting thank you for all those years of loving Rebecca and showing her how to have a wonderful marriage.

Poor Rueben, He will find it very strange for a while. He’ll need lots of extra attention. Congratulations to the happy couple

  14. WOWZA! What a perfect wedding. Loved seeing every detail. Thank you so much for sharing. It made my day for sure just seeing all the preparations and food and family. My Mom was married in a dark green dress too…it was in the early 1930’s…what goes around comes around. ❤️ The way you Criscrossed the drapes was just awesome. It made the background of the ceremony so striking. Your dress is so cute…and can be worn again almost any season. The pictures of your buffet should be in a magazine. So well done and yummy looking!
Giving you and George her car is the sweetest thing ever! What a wonderful Thank you from the newly weds.
Now back to “normal” or do we ever really have normal? 🤔🤗

  15. Marilyn from Colorado

That was lovely. Is there a picture of Kristoffer? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one. What an attractive group — by Jane Austen’s rules, attractive means people who attract others. It looks like everyone there was enjoying the company of everyone else.
Once the drape was up and the wind stopped blowing, you and your sisters look calm and completely in control of everything that needed it — like your hair and the food. We need more food pictures and descriptions later in the week.

I’m sure Reuben joins me in hoping that Rebecca and Karn visit you often. Company for Reuben is an interesting idea. My sister and her husband have a young Corgi/Heeler puppy they can’t keep — caring for him causes her RA to flare up, and as she (the dog) grows stronger and heavier, the RA problem will get worse. If only you lived closer, you would find Torrie and a suitcase of dog toys on your porch.

What a wonderful anniversary present — you’ll enjoy that a lot, especially when we can all get out more. Altogether this was a wedding/anniversary worth waiting for. I too am waiting for a shoe picture — I hope they were comfortable all through the wedding. I like the idea of a marriage being the biggest DIY project. Maybe that should be incorporated in the ceremony.

So — Happy Anniversary and happy on to the next adventure. It will come your way, ready or not.
