The “Dolls and Rainy Days” pictures and a peek at what I’m working on…

HI everyone,
I’m sorry… I didn’t think through the Facebook idea very well… and half of you missed out on seeing the doll pictures with some kind of water being used… I decided to take a screenshot of the pictures on my phone and then transfer them to my blog… you can’t enlarge them or see what the number of “likes” are up to now, but at least you can see the pictures… it will give you an idea of the creativity of the group… there are some really wonderful pictures…and some the more simple the more they are liked…

These first 3 were Miroslava’s favorites… and she tells why…

…and these were the pictures from everyone… the little numbers are the “likes” or votes on the pictures and there were some with comments… If you click on them they will enlarge…or you can hit control and the plus (+) sign on your computer and enlarge them a few times… to see them a little better… The numbers are changing every day…

Now…who’s up? Well, it is Baby Blue Rozen’s turn again… The other two Ruby Red Fashion Friends have each had 2 chances at modeling and Rozen has only had one… so she wanted another turn. We decided to go with a pair of overalls… and not just any old overalls… these…

I saw them online a while back and took a screen shot of them… and still love them as much as I did when I first saw them. My only hope is that I can draft a pattern to make mine look just like this… or at least as close as possible.

I first had to make a pair of shorts to see where I was even going to start…

Then I drafted a pattern for them but cut off the yoke part…

It was a little tricky because I had to get the crotch in there when it was pretty much like a skirt…

Lots of the “tries” went in the trash can… It’s harder than it looks…

I ended up with this… after adding the yoke back on…

…but will have to cut up this pair to make the pattern piece come down from the top, as there isn’t supposed to be a seam across the front…it’s all one piece from the waist to the hem…

So I will continue working on them… once I have the pattern they should be easy to put together… I think if I can get this pattern drafted, it will be worth is, because… AREN’T THEY JUST THE CUTEST THINGS EVER?

Well, I know it’s probably not what you were hoping for, but I tried… and I can work on them tomorrow… I have NOTHING on my schedule!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Dear Jeanne, I am still up from Monday night, so I will go first.

Thanks for sharing the photos. I don’t have Facebook so I would not have been able to see these wonderful photos. They are amazing. The Sofa Sisters are so talented.

I like what you are doing with the romper. The bottom part makes me think of the culottes we used to wear.

We had our hottest day EVER today–110° at SeaTac!! (It was 106 in my driveway–by my car thermometer–at 6:45 tonight!) But it IS starting to cool down some–and on the news they did say there is an “ocean push” of cooler air on the way. Tomorrow they say it will be 90 (which sounds not too bad at this point, frankly! LOL) but after that it’s low 80s and then….high 70s! Ah….

Sleeping is difficult; 2-3 hours at a time for me, and then I wake up from the heat. Drinking lots of water, etc. I have a cool scarf I made a few years ago and I soak it and use it at times, too. And, sometimes an ice pack on my back!

I really enjoyed seeing those pictures again (I did see them on FB). Those of you who don’t have FB, maybe a friend might be able to show them to you if you want to see more detail? Some of them are quite amazing!

That is a darling romper, Jeanne!! Now if you ever get to selling patterns, that’s one I wouldn’t mind buying, as it’s a little different from the run-of-the-mill rompers. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Congrats on the results of the auction for Samantha’s dress. Well done!

Welcome back to the sofa, Dorothy!! I would have loved to have gone (and maybe missed some of this heat!),and then spent a couple of extra days with my best friend in Flint. But Ron needs me here at the moment. Maybe some day…

Dear Charlotte, it would have been great to see you. We had so much fun. I didn’t win any dolls in the raffle room but I did get a souvenir doll as part of the registration. She is a cute little 8-inch Alexander. We took Afternoon Tea at the Townsend Hotel. It was lovely.

I am excited about going to UFDC next month. That will be a huge convention compared to the Madame Alexander one so I will have to navigate my way around to the seminars and workshops.

Do you have fans? Putting a large container of ice water in front of a fan may help. Also, wring a hand towel out — lukewarm water works — and spread it out on top of you for sleeping. Lightly spraying sheets with a spray bottle helps too. Keep the bottle handy.

      Good luck.

      1. Charlotte Trayer

Thanks Marilyn. Wish I’d thought to spray the sheets. They actually felt HOT!!

I do use a damp washcloth from time to time, and have a “cool scarf” (which I made) that you soak in water and put around your neck. We also drank LOTS of water!!

Yes, I’ve had a fan going, but today the heat broke, and we’ve enjoyed lovely breezes. Our house will be Very comfortable for sleeping tonight–yay! It wasn’t too bad last night, even, so I did sleep better than I had the previous few nights.

Oh my goodness, how creative all those darling pictures are! Thank you for showing them, Jeanne! I cannot see raindrops on most of the pictures, but rest assured, I know what raindrops look like! I think Michael should start building an ark at the rate we are going here with rain coming every couple of hours or so throughout the day! Oh my goodness, the humidity is through the roof, and it is like a sauna here when stepping outside!

I love that romper! I like to have things that little girls actually wear and maybe play in when drssing my dolls. Of course, it depends on their timeline, but that romper is just the cutest thing, even though it is not covered with ruffles and lace! You are doing a great job with it, and I am wondering is there going to be a cute top to go underneath? A white eyelet one would do the trick, but I don’t know what other things you may have in mind.
Maybe a cute straw hat or sandals?

Well, another day of showers to look forward to….sigh!

  4. Paula from Ohio

That romper is so cute. Wonder what you have in mind for her too and accessories. I’m sure you have it all figured out.
I think Rosen is such a pretty girl. She must be enjoying her friendships with your other Ruby Red girls.

Everyone stay cool and Charlotte, it’s good to hear you may be getting some cooler relief.
Just walking out in our garage, is like getting hit in the face with steam!

  5. Joy in northern CA

A big congrats on Samantha’s dress! Someone will have a beautifully dressed dolly. 🙂
I absolutely love the denim overall romper. So interesting how you are constructing the pattern. Not a pattern maker here at all. Looks like a very thin denim would work best with all of those pieces on top of pieces. I also like the flowered fabric which would be sweet if made in this pattern too. I would love to try your pattern once complete, should you ever sell it, although after my last try with that sew along disaster, might not be a good idea.
And just so everyone is aware, I did not make Ardyn’s dress. Wish I had, but no, I did not.
Trying to make another 4th of July dress for the RRFF group. Coming up quickly. Finally got a tracking number for my wayward July Joy girl. She’s made it across the Pacific to LA, and is now sitting in Baldwin Park, CA. Hoping she gets picked up by UPS soon and on her way north. Tracking says by July 7th. So much for a July 4th celebration for her. 🙁

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Joy, I used the Bella Blouse (comes with a bonus skirt pattern) from Genniewren Designs to make my Bella a July 4th outfit last year. I bought the pattern from PixieFaire. I kind of plagiarized the idea from the pattern picture. I used a cute patriotic print for the two-tier skirt and went with the red with white polka dot for the blouse. Cutest outfit ever.

I am glad to hear that there is a break in the heat on the horizon for Charlotte. Trying to sleep in the heat is the worst part if you don’t have A/C. In the early days here in Texas people actually had sleeping porches. With the nighttime low in the near 90s in the summer, not to mention the humidity, it seems to me it would still be awful hot to sleep out there. We have several older homes in town that have them but now they are just nice screened in porches to sit on and not have to deal with the bugs.

Paula mentioned walking out into her garage and getting hit in the face with the steam. Imagine a whole summer of doing your laundry in a garage that’s like a sauna. That’s what I’ve been doing for nearly 31 years. Both my previous houses had indoor utility rooms and we always planned on putting in one here but haven’t made it yet. Maybe this year. The other problem I have is if we have a freeze in the winter my washer lines freeze up and this past winter one broke during the deep freeze. I guess back before automatic washers and dryers when my house was built, putting the washer in the garage with easy access to the backyard for hanging the clothes was prudent. But since the 1950s the houses in Texas have usually included indoor utility rooms. I’ve lived in two of those. I only agreed to buy this house because it had room for David’s business and I thought we’d be remedying my utility room situation much quicker.

What a cute romper. I’ve seen this style before but I don’t think I’ve seen a doll pattern for one like it. So nice of you to post the Facebook pictures. I can access them but did enjoy the quick rundown. And congratulations on another successful auction. There is some lucky 18″ dolly out there today admiring herself in her mirror and giving her mommy big hugs for buying the lovely ensemble for her.

David and Sean headed out this morning again. Hopefully their part will be available and they can get on with things. Air conditioning jobs are starting to come in so they really need to get finished and back to their other business.

  7. Kathie in Omaha ( College World Series)

Oh my….all the trouble you went to let so we could see all the Meadow pictures! I do appreciate the time it took you! There are some super clever shots there. I will go to my big ole desktop and look at them again!
Hope everyone is getting thru the heat spell OK
The romper is fantastic…that is going to be a hard one to make a pattern for but you can do it. Maybe very lightweight denim would make it easier?
If you like Baseball the final 2 games of the College World Series are tonight and depending on who wins maybe tomorrow night too…on ESPN2 Mississippi and Vanderbilt are the remaining teams.🤗

    1. Debbie from Tennessee

Hi Kathie, we are all SEC in my house so will be watching. May the best team win! Must be exciting living in Omaha during the College World Series.

It is exciting….the whole town goes all out welcoming the teams. College baseball is so fun to watch!

We have been out of town visiting family or have family in town visiting us – every one loves to come to the Great Smoky Mountains in the summer. I have managed to keep up by sneaking a peak on my phone. I love that the work on your home is behind you; that new roof and siding look fabulous. Looking forward to following along as you figure out the new outfit for Rozen – I know you will come up with something fun!

JEANNE, thank you for all the effort you put into this post. I just had a chance to pull these pics up and was SO happy looking at dolly scenes. I miss my NH home that had so much space for doing these kinds of things, because, let’s face it….it’s all about playing with dolls! A million thanks for sharing these precious scenes.

My first look at your romper picture struck me as looking like denim lederhosen. I am nuts about ethnic clothing, and your picture of your inspiration is so exciting! What a lot of trial and error in creating a pattern, though. I would be so discouraged, I think, having to keep trashing attempts, but then again, this process is how patterns are made. I sure hope you had the BEST day today working on this. Can’t wait to see your work tomorrow!

We all share the concern and pain of the excessive heat, rain, drought, rain around the country and the world. It is scary. However, today has been quite cool in Salida, and it is currently 67 and breezy here. Want to come onto my sofa? Just bring cake and ice cream and chocolate, please. But seriously, I am sending all of you my best thoughts. Hang in there and do as little as necessary until the worst is over.

Well, after reading many comments about discoloration on the RRFF dolls from their original outfits, I decided today was the day for those that were still in the original duds to shed them. No signs of discoloration, and they sure look cute in there new outfits. My favorite outfit today went on my Princess Charlotte doll I got used and did not come with her wedding party outfit. Barb Zuchowski made a dreamy outfit in tans and cream, and white that are about the same colors as the wedding outfit, and I think it looks even better! I’ll send you a pic, Jeanne.

Getting the shoes and boots off Kayla, Maya, and Liberty Joy was a bonafide gnashing of teeth experience! And what’s with my Siblie, Sydney, with a plastic cord in the back of her head going through to the back of the box??? I’m afraid that set me to snorting a bit. Humph! There is no need to do that kind of securing the doll to the box doing that! Mercy!

Well, “that’s my story and I’m sticking to it,” as they say. Keep those fans on high and cool cloths, ladies! Or come to Salida. See you tomorrow.
